Niel...
I installed Leopard 10.5.6 and then it upgraded to 10.5.8, when I installed it I had the old info saved to a "previous systems" folder, where most of my artwork, etc. were saved, I have a one terabyte Lacie backup that unfortunately did not work as it was intended...it saved the new info and not the old. I did look into the system preferences folder and found the classic file, of course it wouldn't launch...but I have the old G 5 startup discs and will try to do it as you stated. I will try also to move it out of the previous folders file to my hard drive and see how that works.
thank you for your time and help,
Dennis

  • I keep getting this error message "Your operating system does not support the 64-bit version of Silverlight" even though I have a 64 bit system?

Netflix requires Microsoft Silverlight plug in to view their videos. Every time I try to load it I get the following error message...Your operating system does not support the 64-bit version of Silverlight. I have a 64bit system with Windows Vista Home Premium. Firefox 33.0 is installed.
    Any suggestions?

    Your User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.0; '''WOW64'''; rv:33.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/33.0
As said Firefox for Windows from mozilla.org is a 32-bit application. The WOW64 in UA means it is a 32-bit application on 64-bit Windows.
Before you ask if there will be a Win64 version of Firefox. If all goes well the first phase of having Win64 for Release may be as early as Firefox 37.0

    Hey BJDaugh24,
Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, the iPad is not in iTunes for Windows. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.

Apple wanted to charge me 50 bucks jsut to talk to someone!
I believe you may be referring to the $49 ASL agreement at AppleCare? That is only when/if you are out of AppleCare Protection.
Can you get to an AppleStore Genius Bar?
They may be able to fix this for you. No charge.
I highly doubt that. There is a $70 charge for troubleshooing software issues, EVEN IF there is AppleCare Warranty on the hardware.
However, since there is no charge for an appointment at a Bar, go make one, and see what options they give you. Let us know how it goes.

  • Just upgraded from Tiger to Leopard. Mail is now hosed.

I just upgraded (Archive and Install) my G4 800mhz PowerMac laptop from Tiger (10.4.11) to Leopard 10.5.6 using a LeopardAssist (la232) to fool Leopard into thinking it was a faster Mac.
Mail opens but there is no mail. I see my two accounts and it looks like it carried my account names and passwords. But it doesn't show any e-mails and it shows zero signs of trying to get new e-mails. Any ideas?

Wow - were you just sitting there waiting for my post?
I can't find the plist files it is talking about. Is there a way to search for all *.plist files in Mac OS X? If there is I can't figure out how.
From the Finder's Go menu choose Go to Folder.
Go to this location (type or paste the tollowing, then click Go):
    ~/Library/Mail
Move the items named "MessageRules.plist" and "MessageRules.plist.backup" to another location, such as your desktop.
Note: If you previously upgraded from Mac OS X 10.3 to Mac OS X 10.5, the files will be named "MessageSorting.plist" and "MessageSorting.plist.backup".

    Hi everyone,
Many of you have had problems with Spotify for Mac OS X 10.5. We no longer support Spotify on this operating system which we announced back in November here as a "heads up".
However, we've noticed that many folks have been updating regardless which should not be the case. Our intention was to let anyone using Mac OS X10.5 continue using a "legacy" version of Spotify. In any case, the folks who were using 10.5 were updated, and in many cases these customers have experienced crashes with the newest version of the application (Spotify version 0.8.8. at the time of writing).
To make a long story short, we messed up in updating folks who should not have been updated and we're sorry. We plan on fixing the problem of Spotify updating to the latest version for Mac OSX 10.5 users and we're working on it as I write this. If you're a person who has already upgraded and the application is crashing, we're looking into a solution and we hope to have an update shortly.
Warm regards from your humble community manager,

  • HT1206 My older ipod is recognized by computer but the newer one is not.  The only thiing I did was to download and update.

I am not very good with this infernal machine.  However I do use simple tools, my ipod is suddenly not recognized by itunes, yet my older ipod IS??????
What ever I try to do does not work.  I downloaded the most recent update and now BOOM  it is not recognized and I am afraid that I will lose all my vintage recordings.

    Hello Muhlenmerg55,
I would be concerned too if my iPod was not recognized by iTunes.  I found a couple of articles that might help with this.
If you don't see your iPod in the My Computer or Computer section of Windows, follow the steps in this article:
iPod not recognized in 'My Computer' and in iTunes for Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1369
If Windows recognizes your iPod but iTunes does not, follow the steps in this article:

Thank you for posting in the Apple Support Communities.

  • Why does Silverlight install process state that my 64-bit Win Vista OS does NOT support the 64-bit version of Silverlight?

As of Monday 4/20, I've encountered a significant problem with Silverlight on my Vista PC.
Several weeks ago I read a brief item stating that Google would be dropping support for npapi and that it would affect Silverlight sometime in April.  One of my key daily apps uses Silverlight, but I didn't receive notification from that software's author
about the pending change and how it would be handled.  Successfully used the app every week (Mon-Fri) this month for 8-10 hrs/dy day (as I've been doing for the past ~5+ years: past year under Chrome, year before that under FireFox, ~3 prior years
under IE) and on Fri 4/17 shut it down for the weekend.  When I booted up on Mon morning and tried to log into the key app however, it prompted me to download and install Silverlight, acting as though I never had it installed!
I recalled the earlier warning about Google dropping support, so I closed Chrome, started up FireFox, but got the same prompt from the app -- it directed me to install Silverlight.  I downloaded it (had no choice as to which version, just got the "Silverlight_x64.exe"
file) and got part-way through the install when this error msg popped up:  "Unable to Install Silverlight.  Your operating system does not support the 64-bit version of Silverlight".  WHAT?!   Clicking on the "more info"
link led to this msg:  "Message ID: 1518.  Your operating system does not support the 64-bit version of Silverlight.  Click here for the latest version of Silverlight."  That link simply led back to the download page which resulted
in receiving another copy of the same executable file.
According to my system ( > Control Panel > System ), I'm running "Windows Vista Home Premium", with a "System Type:  64-bit Operating System".  I've been using this same Vista PC since Sep 2008 and running Silverlight for
    around the past 5 yrs.
? -- Why doe the Silverlight installer code flag my OS as not supported?
? -- Is there a way to get an older version of Silverlight that will run under Vista?
Thanks in advance for any helpful comments.

Andy -- Thanks for the link, but I'm not adventurous enough to download from a non-MSFT site.
Besides, since I didn't make any changes to my hardware/software config, I expect a MSFT rep to explain why their two programs suddenly stopped working together and then provide whatever code fix is needed.  A phone call to their tech support (predictably)
led to nowhere but a recommendation to purchase one of the company's support offerings (which I declined to pursue).  The Silverlight development team appears to participate in these forums, so I'd hope one or more of them offers a realistic solution.
Here's something I forgot to mention in my original post:  In several of the threads on this subject (some dating back to 2008!), people have
suggested running IE as the browser vs FireFox or Chrome; however, that idea fails to note that the error msg (Message ID:1518) clearly states that "your operating
system does not support the 64-bit version of Silverlight"; it doesn't say anything about
    what browser you're using.

  • What are the advantages of moving from Tiger to Leopard?

    Hello all,
I currently have an iBook G4 Mac with 1.25MB RAM and a 1.2GHZ processor running Tiger 10.4.11. I was thinking of upgrading to Leopard in order to get the longest life out of my system before I can afford a Mac. Before I take the pluge I'd like to consider what the advantages of the new operating system are, and it seems to me that the additional advantages are not too clear from the official documentation and Apple Store.
My system will not run Snow Leopard from the system requirements that seem to be coming out so I think this would be the best step to keep my Mac going and compatible for new software that I use for student work, which is primarily musically orientated plugin's and software for midi controllers and mixing. Do you think it would be worthwhile upgrading my system and it will be fast enough for efficient use?
Lastly if I do upgrade, what is the best way to install the new system while trying to preserve current applications and folders. Would it be best to use data migration to a external hard-drive and back again, or is there an easier way to maintain the system applications and files.
    Thanks,
    Robert

See the list of the 300 new features in Leopard and then decide if they are worth it to you.
Whenever I upgrade, I do an "archive & install". It will move your previous system files to a "previous systems" folder and install a new system from scratch. You can also have it preserve user and network settings, which is what I always do. It makes for a very smooth and reliable install with a minimum of fuss.

  • I just upgraded to a 3ti from a rebel xt. When I try to open my RAW images in photoshop elements 5.

I just upgraded to a 3ti from a rebel xt.  When I try to open my RAW images in photoshop elements 5.0 get an error message.   I installed the camera raw update 4.2 but that didn't work.  Any suggestions.

    Hi,
Elements version 5 was made obsolete by Elements 6 back in 2007.  The T3i was only released 2-3 years ago.  Adobe was up to Elements version 9 or 10 by then.  Every camera has its own particular camera raw software, and Adobe has to write an update for the software to work with each new camera's RAW files.  And Adobe stops updating the old versions to work with new cameras when the next version of Elements/Lightroom come out.
I had to buy Lightroom 4 only 6 months after I had bought Lightroom 3 when I bought a new camera.  The older version would not, and never will, work with the RAW files from my 6D.
You could, I believe, use DPP to convert the RAW files before exporting them into Elements 5, but personally I would just take this as a cue that it is time to get Elements 11.  Or Lightroom 5.  I personally prefer Lightroom.

  • Just upgraded Tiger to Leopard.  Clarisworks not supported.   I can successfully convert CW4.0 doc's to AW6.0 doc's using MacLink Plus Deluxe but the problem is I than cannot print them or convert to PDF, either.

Just upgraded Tiger to Leopard.  Clarisworks not supported.   I can successfully convert CW4.0 doc's to AW6.0 doc's using MacLink Plus Deluxe and then work on them but the problem is that I cannot print them.  Neither can I convert to PDF.

If I was trying to get someone else to do my work,
I wouldn't be posting this saying what I have said
would I? I'm not unwilling to do the work myself. From what was stated in your OP, it seemed that you
were.I'm sorry if it seemed that way. I don't want something for nothing. I've spent MANY hours, which I don't have, trying to work this out. I have hit a point where I don't think my expertise is going to solve the problem. That's why I've turned to some experts who might say something along the lines of, "Hey, I know what that is...you're compiling against... and on the Unix box, it's compiling against..." I was NOT looking for something like, "See the code below that fixes your problem."
The only problem is that I don't have direct access
to the sun unix machines I'm running the app on,
so I can't run a profiler on it. Ah, okay. So the only knowledge you have of how it
performs on those machines is from your instructor
running it and then telling you how long it took? No. I can SSH into the servers and run the program from a command line. But I wouldn't be able to install any profiler programs.
You could ask your prof to run it with -Xprof or
-Xhprof or whatever. Or you could put in a bunch of
timing statements to get a rough idea of which parts
are making it take that extra 39 minute or whatever.is -Xprof a java command line option? If so, I will look into doing that. Maybe it's available on the machines at school. Thanks for that input.
