I keep losing my sound on my 5s iphone. It will work fine, then I use some apps and I lose my sounds. The click when I turn it off, the notification when I get a text, the notification when I send an e-mail, but most importantly, the sound on videos that I watch on facebook. Don't know if it's related to facebook or what? I went to my carrier and they sent me a refurbished iphone. I got it yesterday, but today started doing the same thing. Most of the time, if I turn the phone off and then turn it back on, it works, but I'm so frustrated, I don't know what to do. Anyone else have this problem? My carrier didn't know what the problem was.

You transfer the data (including text messages) and settings from your old phone to your new one by backing up your old phone and restoring this backup to your new one (see http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2109). This must have been what your girlfriend did.
If you never backed up your old phone and it doesn't work now, it's too late.

That does happen. It depends on how hard the server is being hit, as well as the connection speed of your system. If you are on a windows system, you will want to disable any antivirus or firewall software during the download.

Upon activating my Siri button, I get an unbearable screeching sound. I already turned in my old ipad under warranty for a new one because of this same problem. Now the newest one is doing the same thing. Anyone else out there experiencing this?

Try going to Settings > General > Siri and turn off Siri. Now try to activate Siri with the home button and you should get the voice command system (similar to Siri). Does it screech?
Next, go back and turn on Siri. Then back up your iPad to iTunes or iCloud.
Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings. Does Siri still screech?
Lastly, Go to Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content & Settings. When the Set up screens show up, choose 'Set up as new..." and skip everything you want to. Test Siri again and see if it screeches.
If it does not screech when set up as new, then you may have something corrupt going on in your backup. You can restore form your backup and see if the issue returns. If it does, then go back and set it up as new again and maually set up your accounts and apps again.
If the issue continues even when set up as new, go back to the Apple Store.

This happens if I upload too many HD photos at once. You are overworking the processor. Just leave your phone off and put it on top of a plastic bag of ice to cool it down. To keep this from happening you have to remove apps from the multitasker by double tapping the home button when the phone is on the home screen or in an app, then hold down on an app, then just press the little red minus signs. This won't delte the app, it just quits them (for example: quitting Skype will not allow you to recieve calls, quitting Facebook will stop you from receiving messages until you reopen the app, quitting the Phone app will not stop you from getting calls or texts though). This will save a great deal of battery.

After upgrading to OS 7.1.1 Maps no longer works correctly. It is constantly "locating" and does not do real time updating. Tried "Scout" map app it does the same thing. Do I have something not properly set up for viewing Maps the way I used top?

Your phone is toast. Contrary to what the lovely folks in the jalibreaking community say, attempting to restore the iPhone to "factory" condition does not always remove the jailbreak. You'll need to contact those bozos and see if they can help you.
Hint: start saving for a new phone.

If you have restored as new and the device continues to go into restore mode, then it appears you need to make an appointment at the Genius bar as there could be a hardware issue with your device.
One last question, the phone has not been hacked/jailbroken, has it?

and just 'held' information in NVRAM and PRAM when needed and there was no power coming in
I can't see data held in NVRAM/PRAM doing something like keeping time without some power. One can't assume a permanent Internet connection to update it when the system is turned on now can we?
I assume it is on a 1000VA UPS that has good battery and fully charged too, and didn't discharge during the vacation
If the UPS was turned off it's as good as being totally unplugged so it may well have still been at 100% upon return. There's no power delivery when the UPS is off remember.

Within a wk one of the new iPhones started turning on and of like 10 –15 times a day. Wk 2 it turned off and would not turn on again . It was my sons who was in college at the time so we talked and he took it in to a Verizon store where he was told I need to come in since the account was in my name. He was away from home , Verizon could see on account it was his phone they said it was not abused, they could not even turn it on , they sold me the phone give him another phone maybe even a loaner till he gets another. So now I need to go to store and explain to 3 different people this is my phone and my son has it and I need a new one. what a waste of time after about 2 hrs and talking to different people and yes they said there were notes on his account from other person he had talked to from different store. So I finally walk out with a receipt in hand and being told I would have a new phone in a couple days. As I sat in my vehicle thinking this is stupid I looked at my receipt and noticed it said droid on it so back into Verizon I went. The salesman said that’s what your son has on his account. My son had activated a friends old phone so he has one since VERIZON REFUSED to give him one. Another hr 3 people and yes they can see he had a new iPhone and notes on it from other store. Sometimes sorry just doesn't do it. I was now late for a appointment . Now I walk out and have been told I will get a new iPhone in the mail in about 2 wk Yes 2 wks again I bought it there just give me a new one and you send old one back. I will also get a new droid that I have to send back because they said they cant cancel it . In about 3 days I get the Droid and sent it back Verizon mistake and a waste of my time . After waiting over 2 wks and not receiving a new iPhone back to Verizon I went . I am now bitter at Verizon after doing 20 yrs of business with them. 3 people 1 hr later I was told it got delivered to my post office . I got the tracking num called the post office and they say o yes that was the droid. On your new iPhone tap Settings > Store.
Make sure Books is turned ON.
You shouldn't need to re purchase the book > Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
