I'm confused with Zen Micro firmw

Ok, first of all, I know this has probably been asked before, but I looked through the FAQ and searched the forum, and still didn't find what I was looking for.
What am I looking for? I'm not really sure, to be honest, but I guess I want to know if I should upgrade my firmware. I'd simply like to find some info about all the firmware versions. I have no need for fancy features or "PlaysForSure" (I'm confused about PlaysForSure too, but nevermind). I just want my player to connect to my PC, transfer some songs (I don't mind it being through Zen Micro Media Explorer, it's totally fine by me), and then play my songs for me.
I also read something about power issues, but it's all very confusing. I remember seeing some post about a patch making it even worse or something, back a few months ago when I was deciding which player to buy. That's why I'm a bit sceptical about this upgrade, and want it done right.
So.. That's about it. Which firmware should I use if I just want to fix problems that are there now? I'm currently using the default firmware version my player was bought with; .0.03.
(Oh, and I'm assuming that the fact that my Zen Micro was bought in Sweden does not matter. It's more convenient to buy it in the country I li've in =P)

question... I'm bit confused about the firmware also. I heard that there was a 2.(or somthing like that) and a . firmware for zen Micros. I'm currently using the . firmware for my Zen Micro. What is the difference between the 2. and . firmware? Or is there even a 2. firmware version? I ask because i keep hearing about a 2. firmware version for Zen Micro, is it true?

  • Random Problems with Zen Micro? Try a diff. USB cable

I know people have mentioned this in other posts, but I thought I would reiterate it here. Many people seem to be complaining that their player is not recognized, or only sometimes recognized, or recognized by Windows (as a USB device) but not by their Creative software, or songs won't transfer, etc. Well, I had some similar problems which ALL went away when I started using a different USB cable - the one that shipped with the Micro just doesn't seem to work consistently.
So, if you are having problems with your player that you can't seem to solve any other way, you may want to try a different USB cable. It worked for me.
Hope this helps - I am (now) loving my new Micro!

I tried a different USB cable also, I thought that it would help, but I still got the same problems. I can almost guarantee that although you think you may have solved your issues, they WILL come back.
I've also been experiencing the "Player Not Connected" problem with my Zen Micro.
I've also had the problem where the Zen Micro just freezes in the "Docked" screen even after it has been disconnected from the PC
I've noticed that these are common problems with Zen Micros with the new firmware (.0.03)
My old Zen Micro with the old, original firmware did NOT have this connectivity problem
Creative should investigate these issues associated with this new firmware, or maybe even making the old firmware available for download to see if this really is the source of all these problems.

  • Strange problem with zen micro (I'm going mad!!

merry xmas!! I've bought a zen micro in seprember, flashed with .xx firmware; I always used it with windows 2000 with no problem, but... problems began when I've installed a pci card usb 2.0 on my pc; the card worked finely with everything but not with zen micro, that's to say that everytime I tried to import songs by media explorer, the program often wasn't able to import songs; so I've installed windows xp and flashed zen micro with 2.xx firmware (I've installed also service pack 2 and wmp0), but things have gone wrong!!! now everytime I connect zen micro to pc, xp asks the drivers, and it doesn't want neither the driver I've found on creative's cd, nor drivers downloaded from creative's site!! And it's not finished: now zen micro is without firmware and everytime I'm trying to flsh it, a dialogue box says that the player is not connect!!!
can anybody help me? otherwise I'll have to write to creative support for a substitution...
    please help me!!!!!

Strange. Unfortunately MTP connection problems are very tricky to solve. It's hard to know whether the firmware upgrade was partially successful, and whether you are on v or v2 firmware. It sounds like v2 firmware, due to the connection problems with MTP.
The drivers for the v2 firmware are provided by Windows Media Player 0, and are located in the C:\WINDOWS\INF directory. You could try pointing there.
As the player has no firmware though you have to go into recovery mode, choose "reload firmware", then connect to the PC (see if it's detected) and run the firmware update again.
If this doesn't work try and find another PC, say a friend's, that meets the requirements of Win XP + SP/2 + WMP0, and see if you can update.
In terms of resolving the connection problem if it continues, have a look at this thread, particularly the reply by DM, which goes through some of the troubleshooting to solve MTP connection problems. Also look for the link "problems with connecting using MTP firmware" in the FAQ post.

  • Updating Zen Micro Firmw

Could anyone please give definiti've advice on the ff: I have several Zen Micro units with firmware .0.03, .02.05 and ..0. The units work fine but I would want to improve battery life on the first 2 units. Is it advisable to upgrade the firmware.. I have read in several forums that if nothing is wrong then don't change the firmware as it may cause problems. Secondly, what software should be downloaded aside from the version ..0? Do I need any plugins etc? Will there be changes in the MediaSource which works fine right now? With all the advice I have been reading am now more confused. Thanks.

Here is a page from here in the forums. It explains everything:

  • Need help with Zen Micro and Win

    Hi,
I bought a Zen Micro 2 days ago and I can't get it to work with my Win XP machine.
I did what was told in the manual: install the software first then plug the player.
When I plug the player in I get the following message:
    Found New Hardware:
    Zen Micro
According to the manual, it should be detected and the drivers installed automatically.
But it dosen't. Instead I get the Wizard that try to find the drivers and it dosen't find them.
I let the battery get a full charge and I tried again. Same results.
I tried to update the firmware but since the player is not detected that didn't work.
I also tried to get the new MediaSource/Zen driver (ZENM_PCAPP_LB_4_00_8_PDE.exe) but that didn't fix my problem either.
I also tried to install the Creative Zen Micro Driver version .27.02 but it tell me that I can't install it because the user I tried to install it with is not an administrator. But this is not true since there is only one user on this machine and it's the administrator. First software that tell me this.
I'm using XP Home with SP2.
    Thanks for the help.

    SSR wrote:
The reason it won't install is because the drivers aren't installed.
I've seen a very few others with this strange error about administrati've pri'veleges, so I'm wondering if it's a Windows issue here. You could try downloading the drivers from to see if this is any different.
Try creating another administrator account and see if it will install from that, and try searching back (perhaps someone had found a solution). I think there's also a way of running a program with forced pri'veleges, perhaps Google can turn something up on that.
I remember one user needs to change some rights of the registry in order to install the software. It looks like under some cases, the login account does not have sufficient rights to write registry.

  • Pick up metal objects with zen micro headphones? battery life with firmware 1.02

    hey all
just purchased my zen micro couple days ago.
the package we got here in downunder is satifying. included were the wired remote and also the stand/case with belt clip. these were the only reasons that made me choose this over the ipod mini.
this has not occurred to me until tonight, but the headphones seems to act as magnets and were stuck to each other as the phones were dangling
i never noticed this happening with other phones
also the battery life of my zen was horrendous. its lasted 5 hrs with eq and smart volume on. the zen was on hold the whole time as the actions were controlled by the wired remote.
this was with the firmware that was shipped with the player .0.03 i believe
have just updated the firmware now, and will be testing the battery life to see if the problem is rectified.
if not, then an exhange for an ipod is inevitable.

Yep, SV is a battery killer, around a 50% drop in life has been meaured and the effect is known to be pretty negligible.
And as others have said, them headphones have magnets in, like pretty much any speaker

  • Firmware problem with Zen Micro (Hel

Well,I was installing the frimware MTP 2.00.2, suddenly the install freezed after the second boot. At that point my computer could not find the Zen Micro, but the thing is that it was found it in the Device Manager driverless. I tried everything to install the drivers to the Zen Micro, but no success. But I cant understand why I can connect to the removable disk, and not get in touch with it when im turning the removable disk option off. And now i reached the point that I do not know what do do! Help!

Use the recovery mode on your Zen Micro to remove the existing messed-up firmware.
Ensure that the Zen Micro is turned off.
    Remove the battery.
Move and hold the Power button to the Power On position and re-insert the battery to the Zen Micro. Hold the Power button until the rescue mode appears.
    Select option 3: Reload OS
After that you will need to reinstall the firmware from your computer.

  • Help with Zen Micro installat

I bought a Zen Micro and came home extremely excited, having previously owned a Zen Xtra 30GB complimented by an Audigy 2 soundcard. I put in the installation cd; as the drivers for the Micro are being installed, it stops at 99% saying "Jukebox Driver" and an error message. It then says: "Do you wish to continue with installation?" I've tried yes and no. With both answers, my player does not get detected. I've tried uninstalling and installing several times. I went on the support site and downloaded the Driver update. When installing that, the installation stops at 87% and again gives me the same message.
Please someone tell me how to fix this so I can enjoy my Micro.

My Quicktime is completely up to date with all updates. As for downloading the latest drivers, I said I already tried that for Zen Media Explorer. Being I'm on dialup, I really do not have the patience to do the same for Mediasource as it's a 30MB+ file. I also had Mediasource previously from Audigy 2 and my Zen Xtra, so I don't see why that would be the problem.
Apologies, I missed that last sentence.
Aside from ZMME have you download the latest DRIVERS though? i.e. Creative Zen and Jukebox Driver Upgrade version .30.03
Please, someone tell me what I should do. The very first time I installed, Windows detected it, but that has nothappened since. I've also tried going in through Add New Hardware in the control panel, but Windows cannot find the drivers on the CD or on the internet. So I'm truly lost in what I'm supposed to do.
The drivers are located in C:\Program Files\Creative\Jukebox 3 Drivers, try pointing the driver update there (or at least check the directory exists and has files in it). Of course if the drivers have not extracted properly this might be your issue.
Also try installing the drivers from Windows Safe Mode.

  • Problem with Zen Micro

I am having a problem with my ZEN Micro. Whenever I plug it in the computer it locks up. I have tried the disk cleanup. I have formated the device. I have removed the firmware. If it isn't pluged it, it will startup to the recovery menu, but as soon as I plug it into the computer it locks up. I can't reload the firmware. Can someone please help?Matt

What's an extended period of time? I was going to plug it in and have it sync at night and unplug it when I woke up about 8 hours later. Is this not a good idea?
Unfortunately, I'm syncing with WMP0, and it slows down my aged computer significantly, so *please* tell me that having my micro connected to my computer for that time isn't going to hurt the micro.

  • Problem with Zen Micro TravelD

I had a 5GB?Zen Micro which started "skipping" when I used it with the TravelDock. I returned the TravelDock for a replacement. The Zen Micro worked fine for several months, then started "skipping" again. Finally, one day while using it in the TravelDock, it froze on re-building library and I was never able to revi've it. Note that I never had any "skipping" problem while using the Zen Micro with the headphones-only with the TravelDock. I bought a second 5GB ZenMicro a month ago. At first, all was fine when I used it in the TravelDock. The last few days, the "skipping" has started again. As with my first Zen Micro, I have no problem with any track when I use the headphones. The skipping while in the TravelDock is not always on the same track, and again, those tracks play fine when I use the Zen Micro with the headphones. Has anyone else had this problem Any ideas Thanks for any help!

I've had the same problem since I got the thing, except that it's SPORADIC. Nine times out of ten I can't connect. I've tried other cables, other PC's without bettering the odds.
    Most of the time:
    () Plug in the Micro.
    (2) Hear the USB connection "bong" sound.
    (3) "MTP Media Player" window opens. "What do you want Windows to do?"
    Take your choice
    * Synchonize Media Files to this device using Windows Media Player
    * Take no action
    (4) It doesn't matter. If I select "media player" it can't find the device. If I select "no action" and then click on "My computer" the flashlight searches, but it can't find it either.
    (5) Note the Micro says "Docked" with solid arrows. It looks connected to me.
    (6) Unplug the Micro.
    (7) The Micro still says "Docked" and now I have to remove the batteries to use it.
I tried e-mail help from creative. They had me try "clean up," they had me try un-installing and re-installing the PC software. None of it made any difference. Finally they suggested reverting back to the old non MTP software. At that point I gave up on them because I had the same problem before I upgraded.
I tried calling creative. They had my try "clean up" which of course did nothing. Finally they said I should exchange the unit. I'm not convinced that would help, and I don't want to be without it for 0-5 days.
Scanning this forum today I see two more suggestions. Let the battery run down a bit before syncing. Don't let the USB root hub turn off the power. I'll try, but I don't have much hope.

  • Same headphone problem with Zen Micro Pho

I had 2 Zen Micros before. They both had the headphone where you can't hear anything unless you move it in the right position. My second Micro took a while to break and I cashed in my rebate at Best Buy.
I got the new Micro Photo since they ran out of regular ones. Do you think I should get the rebate? Does the Micro Photo have headphone jack problems too?

    Snoweagle wrote:
So far mine doesn't and i've not heard news that the ZMP is suffering the same headphone jack issue as the Micro.
Yep, there has been no known headphone jack problem involving the MicroPhoto on this forum, and this should be compared to new threads every week concerning the original Micro as well as the old 00-pages discussion thread. More people have supposedly bought the original and it has existed for a longer time, but the ZMP has been out for over 6 months in the US and fo quite a while in Europe, well beyond the time it takes for many Micro users to discover this problem (my first broke after two days...). Considering this, I'll presume it has been fixed with the ZMP.

  • Headphone jack problem with Zen Micro

    Hi.
I bought my zen micro on April 4 and everything was fine until a few weeks ago
when I got the headphone jack problem. When I touch the plug that is connected
with the player, it makes a weird noise and the volume decreases and goes back to normal
    and it keeps doing it.
Can I get a/s for no charge since it's a yr hardware warranty?
P.S.) I can see there are some ppl who are getting upset by this same problem here.

Has anyone else had problems with the Zen Micros headphones or belt clip? A week or 2 ago my belt clip broke on the part that holds the spring. Yesterday (-24-05) the right headphone cover came off with the cords exposed. and the Part of the belt clip that held the spring in broke. A friend of mine who also has a Zen Micro the belt clip broke for him too. Has this happened to anyone else? If so how did you get it fixed?

What most people do is clip their belt clip on with the micro hanging outside. Me on the other hand i put the micro in my pocket of my shorts
or pants and keep the micro inside of the pocket with the belt clip hooked onto the lining of my pocket. That way my micro is safer and the belt
clip is very hard to break off

  • Trouble playing/pausing with Zen Micro touch

I am having a fairly peculiar (and frustating) issue with my new Zen Micro's touchpad. For me, the Play "button" (area) works only sporatically. Here's the symptoms: I can reliably press the Play/Pause button with my thumb, but I can't reliably press play with the tip of my finger. I NEED to be able to do this since I set the player on my desk at work and will need to quickly hit the Pause button if something comes up (read: if I actually have to work).
I have the latest firmware, so that isn't a solution for me and I have tried playing with different sensitivity settings. After playing around quite a bit, I have determined that the button requires something wide pressing down on it to work. The narrow tip of my finger doesn't work, but the (wider) side of my thumb or even 2 finger tips work great.
Has anyone experienced something similar to this? Is my player functioning normally? Any help is much appreciated.

i have the same problem. back, forward and volume control works fine. sometime much too good
but play, back and menu is only reacting sometimes for me.
and thats the second player i have. had the same prob with the first and got a new one from the vendor.
someone here could help out a little plz? can you all use the play button with the tip of your finger ?Message Edited by washi on 02-23-2005 0:47 AM

  • Big Problem with Zen Micro - won't be detec

    Hello people,
I got a big problem now with my Zen Micro 5GB. Since Saturday I have having my new PC, Fujitsu Scaleo
Intel Pentium D 2,8 GHz dual Processor
    024MB Ram
    PCI-e mainboard
    Ati x700se Video Card
Windows XP with SP2 and several updates were already installed
    Windows Media Player 0
Now, the problem is, I can't really use it on my PC. A few weeks ago I had the very old firmware. But then I thought I update it (why? I don't know...)I Updated to the version ..0 from Jul 05. It worked anyway...
So I plugged in the MP3 player to my new pc but it was not really detected or it did not want to work. When it was plugged in, I couldnt open any program. Even if it was Media Source or Opera or winamp... They did not appear. But they were "open" as they appeared in the task manager. So I couldnt use Media Source. So I tried with Zen Media Explorer, all buttons there were clickable but when I clicked on one butteon (like organize music...) it didnt react...
so I thought: "ok with this firmware, it wont work" So I updated the firmware to 2.2.02 Plays for sure. Neither with the new Media Source on your site nor with Zen Media Explorer (I installed the Update)it does not work. The plays for sure plugin for Media Source wasnt as well helpful. I can drag and drop files on my mp3 player, OK this is one way, but still when it is plugged in, I cant use any other program, as I cant open them.
I dont want to use the drag and drop way as I then have to download a program for editing mp3 tags and I cant as well make playlists...With Media Source it was so easy... I want to use Media Source and I want my PC react even if my Zen Micro is plugged in...
So what to do? I thought about installing the very old firmware what I had before I updated to ..0 but where can I download it's
I hope you can help me
    Regards

MediaSource with the PFS plugin should work, if the player is being detected properly.
Presumably it isn't, so you need to verify this by looking in Device Manager when the player is connected.
