I'm too scared to buy.. should I

I have been a half click away from buying the 60gb zen a few times but have been scared away by many customer reviews citing problems with ) headphone jack stops working 2) cover keeps popping off 3) crashes - lasts 6 months or less 4) song data (names, categories) not being preserved with transfer to unit
should I be?

. The headphone jack problem has been solved in newer models.
2. I do see a few comments about the cover, but as I don't own an Xtra it's difficult to say what causes this.
3. Crashes always happen with MP3 players (I have 4 different players from 2 different companies). The Xtra isn't any worse than any other player.
4. There is no problem like this.
As others have said, most comments (whether it be on forums, Amazon etc.) tend to be negati've because people post when they have problems.

• Scared of buying a new Macbook - help!

Scared of buying a new Macbook!
I really need to buy a laptop due to a book I'm about to start writing, but after reading all the negative things on here about the new Macbook and Macbook Pro with overheating and this funny heat gel that Apple are dunking on the intel chips to try and stop them from overheating, I'm a little worried about spending my money on a new one and am more inclined to buy an older used iBook; perhaps a 6 month old one.
Okay, questions to put my mind at rest. I would rather have a more future-proof intel laptop, and I do like the widescreen resolution of the new Macbook as I can play back native 720x1280 progressive HD footage.
So, this dollop of heat gel, is it on the Macbook chip from the factory from new, or do Apple engineers just dollop this stuff on there when they get a overheating one returned to try and rectify the problem. If the latter is the case, surely this will only work until the gel dries up and stops having any cooling effect?
Will future Macbooks be sorted, if so, should I wait 3 months and by a revised rev-B type Macbook.
I've also read that the fans can rev loud.
I'm only asking as I bought one of the first iMac G5's and it was an overheating over revving disaster; so much so that I had to sell it on eBay after just 3 months as I could not stand it. I bought another one a year later that is fine; after Apple sorted the design problems out. I don't want to make the same mistake again.
Advice please.
Oh, I love Macs, I have 3 in the house, iMac G5, intel Mac Mini and Dual 2 gig G5 tower. So I don't need convincing. I have been using Macs long enough to know that Apple tend to have teething problems with new gear, but when they sort it, it is simply the best.
Thanks.

Hello, I can't answer all your questions, but just so you understand,ALL cpu chips (even the previous apple g4's and g5's), some video chips, etc. use the silicon grease as a way to carry the heat away from the chips to the metal heat sinks. Every computer ever made (well maybe not the original tube ones have this type of heat transfer technology in place so the chips don't melt down.
The comments about heat grease are mostly about how much was applied (with the belief that too much grease may not transfer the heat effectively), not whether or not it is needed. Recent articles on other web sites indicate that in some tests where the factory heat grease is cleaned and removed, then replaced with what some consider to be top notch grease, has only reduced the temperature of the case by 2 degrees. To be clear, this was for the macbook pros, where there seems to be even more concern by some about temperature.
By the way, this heat grease is designed to last longer than the computer it is running in. It does not typically dry out during the lifetime of the computer.
Should you buy the Macbook? Only you can decide if this makes sense. But there are a lot of other people on other forums (popular mac magazines, and rumor sites) who are quite pleased with the machine so far.
Personally, I would not buy a previous generation at this point.

• Help! I'm too scared to erase my iPhoto library in Aperture, but I need to!

Is it safe to delete iPhoto library from Aperture if I chose to save it in their current location when I did the import?
I have already erased two events from the iPhoto Library in Aperture and they still show when I open iPhoto...but I'm too scared...There are like 20,000 photos. I chose to import all the Library because I wanted to have all in Aperture, but now the library is so big that when I open another application that has to search within Aperture's library it takes hours....
Thanks for your help....

Ah the +delete or not to delete question+.....
From the first part of your post I believe you're saying that when you imported your iPhoto library into Aperture you told Aperture to leave the masters in the iPhoto Library. But then you wrote " I chose to import all the Library because I wanted to have all in Aperture" which sounds like you moved the masters into Apertures library.
Just to be sure you first enter Browser mode then select the Photos icon in the Library inspector, which will bring up all the photos in your library. Now create a filter add the rule *File Status* and in the pulldown select Managed. This will select all images in your library were the master is in the Aperture library. If you left the masters in the iPhoto library when you imported them then you should't see any images, If you do see images here that means that these masters are in the Aperture library and deleting the library would be bad.
If nothing shows up you could delete the library but deleting it is so final. Having a backup would be a good thing just in case.

• Applecare - too late to buy (ordered Mac online on 20th Feb 2009?)

I didn't know where to post this question, so option for this forum!!
I contacted my local Apple store today to find out if it was too late to buy and register Applecare for my Mac Pro I ordered online from Apple on 20th Feb (1 year and 1 day ago).
The member of staff referred my to the Apple Store, but when I phoned I realised they don't have staff answering telephones on a Sunday (this is the UK).
So, I didn't receive my machine until 25th Feb 2009, so am I too late to buy Applecare if I wanted to?
Thanks in advance
Matt

you can still buy applecare. you can do it while your mac is still covered by 1 year manufacturer's warranty (1 year)

• Too scared to try.......

I have a 30 gb iPod. I've had it for years and love it! I have never downloaded anything from iTunes. Every song that is on my iPod I physically had the CD at one point and time and ripped it to my library, then I would sync the ipod to the library. When I installed iTunes, everything in my library transferred over, which was exactly what I wanted.
Last year, my home computer crashed. I have a new computer, and would love to add new, more recent CD's that I have in my new library to my iPod, but I am too scared to risk losing the old stuff that - if it gets lost - I'll never be able to get it all back.
How do I add new songs to an iPod with a new computer WITHOUT losing what's currently on my iPod?
Thanks in advance for your help!

You'll need to copy whats on your iPod to your new iTunes library first. Once you have successfully done that, you can Erase and Sync the iPod with your new library. Doing so will allow you to sync all the old tracks over to it plus the new ones anytime you sync your iPod.
See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer on different ways to copy music from your iPod to your computer.

• HT4623 I don't know what has happened but the update didn't work and now it asks me to restore the iPad. I don't know whether I should as i'm too scared it will delete everything i had on my iPad. What should i do if i did backup my iPad before the update

So i have a serious problem regarding the iOS update on my iPad 4 and i don't know whether i should restore it because i'm scared it will loose all the data.

You are saying that you DID backup your iPad so there should be no worries at all. After you restore the iOS, you can restore from the backup - and sync with iTunes, if you are using iTunes - and you should be fine. If you see the iTunes logo and the USB cable on the screen, you are in recovery mode.
Read this for more information.
If you can't update or restore your iOS device - Apple
If you didn't backup your iPad, there is nothing that you can do about it now. You will lose everything when you restore. You can add you purchased content back to the device using the purchased tabs in all of the iStores or you can sync your content back to the iPad if you use iTunes.
No matter what, you have to restore if you want to be able to use your iPad again.

• Too confused -- what one should I ge

I've decided to take the plunge and get an MP3 player, and after doing a LOT of research, I've only succeeded in confusing myself more. From what I've seen, I like Creative players best, they seem to have a lot more to offer for less money than other companies. Plus, I think they're the cutest. But I just don't know which one to buy! I originally decided on the Zen Micro, but then changed my mind -- I'm mostly going to be using it for my 30 minute each way commute to work and I'm scared of damaging it on the train, and it might give me an incenti've to exercise more if I can use it for that, too. So now I'm caught between the MuVo Micro 52MB or the MuVo TX FM 52MB. I can't for the life of me figure out what the difference is between them, other than looks! Help? Or should I squelch my vanity, forgo the light blue color (which I'm craving), and spring for the GB model of one or the other? I'm don't need to fit thousands of songs onto the player and I tend to listen to the same songs over and over, so swapping music now and then wouldn't be much of a problem for me.
I just need advice, since my friends either don't have players or have Apple devices, so they're no use to me! Any suggestions are much appreciated!

If you're looking at using it with an "action" sport e.g. jogging, then arguably you should go for a flash player from the MuVo series.
Really the big decider is how much music you want to carry around, as the flash players have a lot less space than the hard disk based players.
So now I'm caught between the MuVo Micro 52MB or the MuVo TX FM 52MB. I can't for the life of me figure out what the difference is between them, other than looks! Help?
Did you look at the features at ?
Creative are releasing a bewilderign array of flash players at the moment, which have very similar (if not the same features). So don't be surprised if they are identical.

The MuVo sounds ideal for you.

• Best Buy should be ashamed of their lack of customer service.

On Saturday, 7-26-14, I attempted to file a claim on a cell phone warranty. In store I was notified that the policy was inactive, yet a second phone that was attached to the account was all active. I researched the cause of this and found my credit card was cancelled due to my bank discovering possible fraud. My wife called customer service in May, and after dealing with rude representatives, she was able to get both phone insurance policies reinstated.
When I called customer service today, after being hung up on twice, I was told that the policies were reinstated, but my wife failed to update the credit card information. I thought the error was on our part. My wife was able to find another email from Best Buy, that proved she updated the information. Conveniently however, Best Buy supervisor Mark was unable to find this proof email, but could find the earlier email. I find this highly unlikely.
Mark did reluctantly reinstate the policy, and told me I would have to go back to store to follow through with the claim. I notified Mark that due to the incompetence of Best Buy, and their insistence that I was the one that failed to update my policy, I threw the paperweight of a phone away. He then told me that I was out of luck, but referred me back to the store.
I understand the concept of "passing the buck" back to the store because that allows him to get off the phone with me. He also told me that my bank was the problem, yet I find it odd that the second phone on the account was current on payments. He also could not explain why, if it was my bank's fault, that no email was sent. Best Buy was quick to send an email when my credit card was cancelled due to fraud protection, but not this time?
Best Buy customer service gives people the run around, fails to live up to their obligations, and loses certain emails that show the costumer is correct. Best Buy also refuses to make their mistakes right or to even admit mistake on their behalf. I was told by Mark that he is in charge of the Customer service call center, so I obviously will not receive a reasonable resolution to this problem.
Best Buy has the absolute worst costumer service that I have ever dealt with. I will never conduct business with Best Buy again and I'll encourage every person that I come in contact with to do the same.

Hello molonlabe-
I’ve been fortunate enough to not have to need service on my cell phones to this point (knock on wood), but if I ever do, I hope that my experience doesn’t match yours. It certainly sounds like it was frustrating.
Generally, if we are unable to collect payment on a monthly Geek Squad Protection plan three months in a row, we should be sending out an email to whichever address we have on file instructing you to contact us about this issue. I’m sorry that this did not happen.
Usually, the email letting your know that your credit card information has been updated in an automated system email and Mark would not have visibility to that, though he should have been able to see when your wife called in and had the plans reinstated. I will definitely be documenting this feedback for training opportunities.
If you no longer have the phone, we would be unable to assist you, however, if the plans have been reinstated, you may still end up being charged each month if you did not have Mark cancel the plan. If you did not cancel that plan, I would recommend contacting us at 1-888-237-8289 for assistance with cancelling this to avoid any future issues.
Thanks for connecting with us; I do hope that at some point in the future, you will allow us another opportunity to earn your business.

• Best Buy should not use UPS as a shipper

Ordered an Ipad Air2 on 11-20-14 and it was shipped 11-20-14. Best Buy used UPS to ship the item. The Ipad Air2 was shipped from Best Buy Warehouse located just 80 miles from my home and the package final destination. The delivery date is 12-1-14. 11 days to travel 80 miles is unacceptable. I could of walked and pick the Ipad faster. Beware if you are ordering for the Holidays. Not Best Buys fault.

Hello fhawk149,
Waiting for an order to arrive is never fun, so I can imagine how disappointed you must have felt to learn your iPad Air 2 might not arrive right away. I'd be disheartened too if I found myself in a similar situation, especially if the fulfilling warehouse was just an afternoon's drive away.
Without additional information regarding your order, it'd be difficult to determine why the estimated delivery date might have been delayed until early next week. Depending on your area, UPS pickup and delivery may have been impacted by recent weather conditions. Rest assured that we strive to ensure each and every order is delivered as soon as possible though, and that we're constantly reviewing shipping options to find the best solutions for our customers.
Thanks for taking the time to post.

• Too late to buy warranty?

Just bought a Dell Studio MT Desktop Q8200 November 30 (3 days ago). I did not buy an extended warranty at the time. I wasn't aware of the arrangement Dell had w/Best Buy about warranties until today and I would like to buy a extended warranty now. Is it too late to do this?

Hey Kbp13 -
Congratulations on your new Dell desktop. I purchased one a few months ago in our stores and thus far I have been quite pleased.
The good news is that you do have 14 days from date of purchase to buy the Performance Service Plan. Keep in mind, the store may ask you to bring the tower in to have it inspected to ensure that it is in like new condition. Your best option is to contact the store prior to driving there and receive clarity from them.
I hope this helps!

• So Apple is making it too hard to buy the new iphone, what is the next best

The nearest apple store is about an hour and a half away for me. I'm told that to get a 3G I should show up at the store at around 7:00 a.m.
WHAT? Apple thinks that they can treat longtime customers like this? I am appalled!
I have already waited weeks to let the buzz die down a bit, But this is just nuts.
My Dumb phone is dying, and I will soon buy a new phone, I wanted it to be the new iphone but I don't think that I will risk the gas and time to drive that far with a maybe.
What do you think is the next best choice and why?

The fact that I have spent my money on over a dozen Apple computers over the years sure should matter to them. But no, the other people should get good service also!
I'm a little confused. Why do you think you're getting bad service and being treated badly at all because they recommended you come early to get the phone? The iPhone is a very popular item. A lot of people want it, and the phones are being made quickly and shipped out by the boatload to stores around the world. Apple has started opening their stores at 8am (that's two hours earlier) in order to help with demand, to make sure there is more store time to serve all the customers (is that not good service?).
If the store is a first-come-first-serve situation, then you're being given exactly the same service as all other customers, and it's not bad service. It's just the best they can manage given the huge demand for this product. If you were running the store, what would you do? Ask everyone who called to bring all receipts to show how much they've spent at the store and the ones who spend the most get to come in first and get the iPhones while the rest wait? I mean, it'd be nice if all Apple stores treated everyone like kings: "Hello, sir, there's 500 people in the store buying iPhones, but we STILL have one for you, and a private table over there to fill out all AT&T forms. Would you like someone to wave a peacock fan over your head so you don't get hot? Come right this way...espresso?"
I don't think they have enough employees or room for that. Not to mention iPhones.
Now some stores have allowed customers to reserve phones. You might talk to your store manager, discuss your situation (the long drive) and see if this can be done.

• Too many recipients, what should I do?

Hello, I'm trying to send emails to 500 people it doesn't work. I get a message that says I have too many recipients. What should I do? I was wondering if there was a way to do this without splitting the list..
Many thanks!

I found this, so I guess there is no other way than splitting the mailing list..

• Even with recent powerbook g4 buy should i keep eye open for something newer

Last week bought powerbook g4 that runs well; August 05 15", 1.67ghz, 2gb ram, 250gb hd, ilife & iwork 09, good dvd, cosmetically fine.
Considering drawbacks of such old system will it be smart also purchasing newer Apple model? Having Macbook Pro in mind what kind of specs should be included assuring I'm not stuck with two antiquated systems around same time? Thanx

Hello,
Well I've just recently purchased a MacBook Pro 2.4Ghz duo core 17" from 2007.
It's not the most powerful, but it was a good price and runs the latest version of Mac OS X 10.8. The way I look at it, it's going to be at least two years or more before mountain lion will become obsolete .
Should serve me well for a least two years and at £200 (300 USD) it's an affordable price.
Sadly it means I won't be using my PowerBook G4 17" as much.
But spec wise, look for a MacBook Pro 15/17 inch that mid to late 2007 plus
The more RAM the better the performance.
If it can run Mac OS X 10.8 then your know it want be too obsolete for a while.

• Scared To Buy A Creative Mp3 Pla

I'm planning on buying a Zen V Plus (4GB or 8GB), but I'm afraid that the product might die on me within months and not years. While browsing this forum, I've read so many problems regarding various zen mp3 products, and I'm simply afraid to part with my well-earned cash. I'm more tempted to go with the 8GB Zen V+, but it's so expensi've(?59.99).
My Creative Zen Micro (purchased for ?49.99) has recently developed the infamous headphone jack problem, I had my zen for about a year before this problem. Also the player freezes too much.
In my opinon Creative owe it to fans to produce products that are durable and last more than a year. Imagine paying so much for a product and it is unusable after a year.
I need convincing to buy another Creative Product (zen v plus).

I've got a Zen Micro over 2 years old, used daily, no problems.
I replaced the battery a little while ago, as the original was getting towards the end of its life. It took maybe 7 seconds and no tools to do.
If I'd bought an iPod instead, getting the battery changed would either require sending it back to Apple, paying shipping plus their replacement cost.
They don't necessarily send your iPod back Chances are very high that you get someone else's refurbished one. Oh your music? You'd better have backed it all up, because it's gone.
The other iPod alternati've is sending away for a battery kit and taking it apart myself and hoping that I don't wreck it by breaking some tiny wire.
Both of those options cost more than a replacement battery from Creative, once you factor shipping, not to mention with my Zen I was listening to music again within seconds, no waiting for shipping and refurbishment.
