Error -50 when trying to display artwork on ipod 5th gen
I had this problem recently where the artwork went all wierd and wrong album covers were showing, so I thought that I'd remove all artwork using itunes (version 7.0.2.16) update the ipod, remove ipod, reset it, reconnect it and then update again with display artwork checked. It seemed like a good idea at the time but wasn't! Now all the artwork has been removed and when I try to apply 'display artwork on ipod' I get the following error message:
"ipod can't be updated. an unknown error occurred (-50)"
In short, I am now left with no artwork and can't seem to get any of it back onto my ipod despite the fact that it is all correctly atached to the tracks id and dispays ok in itunes.
Any ideas would be gratefully received...Does anyone have a better solution? I am having this same error, and I really don't want to re-encode anything on my originals. I've done that in the past and I was unhappy with the resulting media in an ABX test. Why does iTunes have to be so picky. One of the songs is in my top 10 favorite that I listen to all the time, and as such I KNOW the song displays no obvious corruptions. AAC is the devil.

my ipod screen isnt cracked but it isnt unlocking. i dont know if i should reset it because i dont want to lose all my photos, apps and videos
No doing a reset, hold down the home/sleep button together until you see the apple logo, won't cause you to lose any data. It's like restarting your computer.

I have the iPod 5th gen. and my iPod wont connect to my wifi. I've tried everything. i rest my wifi networks and it still wont work. What do I do??
Does the iOS device connect to other networks? If yes that tend to indicate a problem with your network.
Does the iOS device see the network?
Any error messages?
Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
- iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
- Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
- iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: How to back up
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem and it does not connect to any networks make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

For the future, saying you tried everything provides use with zero info as to what you did try. If you really tried everything then there is no way we could help -
IPod 5th Gen will not reset to factory defaults - "Device is Busy"
I am trying to fix an iPod 5th gen. So far I have gotten iTunes to recognize it, but it needs to be restored to factory defaults. I try reseting it and I get an error message saying that the "device is busy" and it fails restoring. Any idea on how to fix this? I get the same error on three computers, so it isn't my Mac.
See
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
- I would start with
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
or
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Features app in the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components
- Then do the other actions of:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
paying special attention to item #5
- New cable and different USB port
- Run this and see if the results help with determine the cause

if i factory reset my ipod touch(5th gen), can i reset it to the option 'set up as a new ipod', and then i can just go into the app store/itunes store and log into my apple ID so i can just restore my music and apps and not icloud with photos, contacts, ect. and then later i can add contacts that i need/want instead of them restoring them from icloud?
The reason i asked this question is because i have been wondering this a lot ever since i got an exchange on this ipod (and ive only had it for a few weeks now) because my last ipod had a lot of problems. so after i restored my ipod with my computer/itunes, i downloaded apps that i wanted, and then when i went to the storage to see how much storage was left, it said 0 bytes. i was freaking out because i didnt know how that could be, i mean, cause like, that is impossible when i just 'purchased' it, that the space was full but i looked and all my pictures were on this ipod and i already put them on my computer so i dont need them anymore thats why i wanna reset it now so there is nothing on it so i can have more space for stuff to do and download on it.
it is updated to iOS 8 but that happened when i purchased it, so i didnt have a choice to update it even though i didnt want to update to iOS 8...
and i hope you understand my problem..
i would REALLY REALLY appreciate it if someone could tell me a solution to my problem!!! thank you so much!
-sierraHey Sierra, You can do just what you have stated. My question, what is your "other"? If it is over 1.5 GB you most likely have corrupt files. Doing a Restore to New, Factory restore should correct it. Just make sure you make a full backup of all information on your iPod to your computer before you restore, so you don't lose your stuff, contacts, videos, pictures, non-iTunes music, etc, use the cable and connect with your computer. Then, via cable, connect to your computer, run the Restore to new, don't use your backup. Treat this iPod as if it was your first one ever. When restore is done, set up and add what info you wish to install on this iPod. The music apps etc you purchased should be on your computer, if not you should be able to retrieve purchased apps and music from iTunes. Any music, videos, apps not purchased from iTunes will be lost to you if you do not save them to your computer or the cloud first. When your done, make a current Backup and you should good to go. Hope this helps. Good luck. Cheers.

Frozen or unresponsive iPod touch
The Basic Troubleshooting Steps are:
Restart.. Reset.. Restore...
Try this First... You will Not Lose Any Data...
Turn the iPod Off... ( if it isn’t already )
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
Wait for the Apple logo to Appear and then Disappear...
Usually takes about 15 - 20 Seconds... (But can take Longer...)
Release the Buttons...
Turn the iPod On...
If that does not help... See Here:

How do you factory reset your ipod once itsbeen disabled
how do you factory reset a ipod touch once its been disabled?
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

For how to restore:
iTunes: Restoring iOS software
To restore from backup see:
iOS: How to back up
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store -

My Motorola droid razr M is stuck at the M logo and i tried the factory reset but it didn't work. What do i do?
MrMJG,
Let's get your phone back up and running. Have you been able to try to press and hold the volume down and the power button at the same time for approximately 10 seconds? The phone should reboot for you. Is there any kind of physical or liquid damage to the device? Please keep me posted.

IPod 5th Gen constantly resets and is not detected
My iPod 5th Gen erased all my music and constantly resets when plugged in. I've searched far and wide through support to no avail so I look to the community to aid my quest to load music to my iPod again. Thanks in advance for the help!
Situation:
- music and all data erased suddenly and is currently in factory settings
- when iPod is plugged in to computer, the iPod screen shows (in order):
° "connected, eject before disconnecting" (~5 seconds)
° off screen, completely blank (~1 second)
° apple logo appears as if restored (~5 seconds)
° repeat perpetually
Attempted Remedies and Scenarios:
- restore iPod via select / menu buttons
- try running Disc Mode via select / play buttons
- restore iPod via iTunes (cannot attempt because it is not detected under devices)
- reformat and erase all data in iPod via iTunes (cannot attempt because it is not detected under devices)
- reformat iPod via Disk Utility (iPod is not detected on Mac so cannot select)
- attempted all of the above with the following variables:
° with pc running Windows 7, iTunes current
° with Mac mini running Mavericks, iTunes current
° with Macbook Air running Mavericks, iTunes current
° tried all USB ports on all above computers
° tried 2 separate 30-pin USB cables (both USB cables work with my iPhone 4s)
° iPod is fully charged
° restart all computersHi everyone.. just found the solution... conveniently after I start a thread. Turns out that my iPod nano had converted all 7.3GB of my 8GB into "Other" space and reset all my settings.
Solution is as follows:
- run disc mode while plugged-in (running Macbook Air)
- restore dialog box appears via iTunes while in disc mode
- restore iPod nano
- upload music
- enjoy
