I moved an event in imovie to an external hard drive but I don't see it on the external hard drive now

I followed the directions on Apple's website on how to move iMovie footage from the internal hard drive to an external hard drive.  I moved 3 events over and I don't see those events in the external hard drive.  Can anyone help?

Hi
Then it's not my advice.
There are two very important things about this.
• NEVER - move or alter any folder named iMovie Events or iMovie Projects on DeskTop/Finder - at all !
All changes must take place inside the iMovie Application - else connections break ! and iMovie can't find them.
Move Events and Projects back and hope that they will be found.
• The external hard disk - MUST BE - Mac OS Extended (hfs) formatted - UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange works for most BUT NOT FOR VIDEO - not for iMovie nor FinalCut.

Hi! Good news and some bad news. Bad news is that I think my power supply can't handle the load I'm giving it because the there are 3 12v rails and the amps on each aren't that high. The good news is that I fixed the raid problem. I was searching the net last night and found this site which told me everything I needed to know about fixing that damn raid problem. The reason my computer kept restarting after I installed windows xp on raid was because xp was installing the default windows disk controller drivers after the installation completed. Sooo, to fix this I had to slipstream my nvraid drivers to the windows xp setup cd and then install. It worked like a charm! Too bad my computer still randomly shuts off. It has got to be the power supply since I've checked if the board is getting shorted and all the connections etc... So I'm planning to buy a new power supply...any suggestions...I'd also only like 1x12v rail with atleast 32A. Otherwise, I'm good . Thanks to everyone that helped and if anyone has any more suggestions about the power feel free to let me know!
The site below told me how to fix the raid problem.

  • How to update iPhoto events in iMovie 13?

When I use iMovie '13 to open my iPhoto library, I don't see the last few months of images. The most recent images are from October 2013... which is about when the new version of iMovie came out.
How can I force iMovie '13 to reload my iPhoto library and keep it current?

I found the problem! It's not iMovie... it's iPhoto. iPhoto is importing my events, but it isn't putting them in the correct chronological order. The newest events (from November and December) are listed below the October events (between October and September). Weird. But once I found them, there was no problem bringing them into iMovie. Thanks, all... guess I need to post this issue in a different forum!

  • IMovie not seeing iPhoto in the Media Photos tab iMovie 6.0.3/iPhoto 6.0.5

    Hello
I'm trying to use iPhoto through iMovie, but it doesn't see iPhoto under the Media>Photos tab. It says "open iPhoto 2 or later to see photos from your iPhoto library in this list."
I have iPhoto 6.0.5 and iMovie 6.0.3, and even when I open iPhoto it doesn't recognize. Restarting computer didn't help.
    Please help,
    Chris

    Greetings,
I am having the same trouble with both iMovie and the new iTunes 7.
Here's a clue: We share our photos and songs and have relocated the photo library "Shared" and have set up an ACL. It has been working great, except iMovie seems to not understand it has moved. I can use iPhoto to create a new library in the user 'default' area, and iMovie sees it fine. But even if I switch libraries when starting iPhoto, iMovie can't find it, and there appears to be no way to browse for another iPhoto library.
iTunes 6 worked ok, but after downloading iTunes 7, I have the exact same problem.
    Any ideas?

  • Moving iTunes Program to C: drive, but leaving the music there?

    Hello,
I currently have my music library as well as the iTunes application on an external disk. This worked fine for occasionally syncing my iPod music library.
However, I now have an iPhone and would like to move the application to my c: drive, so that I don't have to connect the external drive to sync non-music data.
How can I move the application locally and leave the music on the external disk?
Thanks in advace for your help!

iTunes the application normally installs to the system drive. I don't think there is much you can do about that. If you've only moved the media folder however then see make a split library portable as there is probably data that can be usefully moved.

  • I moved an event to trash in iMovie but it didn't appear in the trash area on the desktop. I know there's another trash area. Where would that be?

I moved an event to the trash using iMovie 10.0.2. It didn't appear in the trash area on the desktop. I know there's another trash area. Where would that be?

An event will only be deleted if none of its clips are in use in other projects (in other events).
    See: http://help.apple.com/imovie/mac/10.0/#mov1d890f00b  for details.
I know of only the one trash folder

  • After renaming and moving to my desktop an iMovie project, i can not open it. I moved it back to iMovie but still it is not working. I noticed that there is not an Event Folder for the project. Can someone help me?

I renamed an iMovie project, then I moved it out of iMovie to my desktop. It did not work from there. Finally I managed to move it back to iMovie, but still does not work. I can't edit it, it does not even appear as an option. I found out that the Event Folder for this Project is gone. Is this the problem? Is there a way I can get it back? Can somenone help me?? Obviously after so many mistakes you can tell I am new on this. Any help will be appreciated it!!!!!

OK Let's take a step back.
If you imported video clips from a camcorder there would be an Events folder in the Movies/iMovie Events/ folder.
You have the option as you import from a camcorder to send your Event to an external drive instead. In this case, it would be in the iMovie Events folder at the top level of the external drive.
If your project has no video clips, but only photos, there may be no events folder, only links to iPhoto.
Similarly, if your camera imported your video clips to iPhoto, and you used the iPhoto event in iMovie, then your clips are in iPhoto, and there is no separate iMovie event.

  • Moving Events in iMovie '11

Hello.  I've read the instructions for moving events to an external HD.  I have 5 events that I'd like to move, not copy.  Three of them moved over to the external HD just fine.  The other two, though, just copied.  I used the same process of Command/Drag within iMovie, and the dialog box pops up saying that it is "Moving files...", but when it completes, the event still remains on my HD, as well as on the external HD.  Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?  I really need to free up some HD space.
Thanks in advance for your help.
    -steve

Nope, iMovie '11 all the way!

  • How to Import iMovie v9 Projects/Events to iMovie v10

I had a heck of a time finding info on transitioning from the previous version (v9.0.9) to the current version (v10.0.7). One of the problems I was having was getting the new version to recognize my old Projects and Events. After some digging here and elsewhere, I figured out what was wrong and how to fix it.
In my case, I had provisioned iMovie 9 to keep the Events folder on an external hard drive while the Projects folder was on my iMac's internal drive in the Movies folder. Don't ask me why they were separated; I can't remember why I did that or even if it was a mistake. Whatever the reason, it caused trouble when it came time to upgrade.
iMovie 10 keeps all the Projects and Events in a single Library file. By default, this Library is placed in your Movies folder on your Mac's internal hard drive. During the initial installation, iMovie will ask if you want to import the old versions Events and Projects. You can opt to do it right then or wait until later. When you do attempt to import these files, iMovie 10 will look in the Movies folder for the previous version's iMovie Events and iMovie Projects folders. If you have both of these folders in their default position, the new iMovie should be able to immediately import the files by copying them to the new version's Library. The old files will remain in their folders and will be useable by the previous version without any problems.
If you have the previous version's Projects and/or Events folders somewhere other than where iMovie 10 expects to find them, you may encounter an error when you try to import the old files. Even if the attempt fails, iMovie 10 creates extra files inside the old folder that prevent a successful import if you try it again. You'll need to look inside the old iMovie Events and iMovie Projects folders for a file called "UpdatedToiMovie10" and delete it from each folder. (In my case, I deleted these files from any drive that had these folders, not just the internal hard drive.) Restart iMovie 10 and select File > Update Projects and Events... to restart the import process. As long as the new iMovie Library is in the same folder as the old iMovie Projects and iMovie Events folders, this should proceed without a hitch.
If, like me, your old projects and events were stored at least partially on an external hard drive, you should consolidate them onto a single drive. DO NOT do this from the Mac's Finder. Move the projects and events to the drive where you want them by dragging them in iMovie 9's browser. Hold the Command key while dragging to move the files instead of just copying them. (If you copy the files instead of moving them, you'll have duplicates on both drives. It's not a problem, but the files will take up at least twice as much space on your drives.) Once the files are located where you want them, you can quit iMovie 9 and re-attempt the iMovie 10 import process by selecting File > Update Projects and Events...
I hope this helps anyone else having this issue. I also hope that anyone who can see where I've explained this incorrectly will please post a correction as a response.

iMovies are not designed to be viewed in iPhoto. You should watch your movies from iTunes. You can SHARE/To iTunes and your movies will be in iTunes. From iTunes, you can watch them on your Mac, on your Apple TV, or you can sync to iPhone, iPad, iPod. You will also be able to access them through the Media Browser in Keynote, Pages, GarageBand, Logic, and iDVD.
The only movies that should be stored in iPhoto are short, unedited clips taken by a still camera. iMovie can edit them without taking them out of iPhoto.

  • In IPhoto I changed movie dates after thumb nails were created in IMovie but the new dates are not showing up in IMovie.  Is there someway to refresh the IPhoto event in IMovie?

Background:  I'm transferring file folders from a Visa laptop via an external hard drive to my IMac.  In the folders are photos and videos from different cameras.  SO I first tried to import to IMovie but it would not recognize any of the files.  So then I imported into IPhoto and both photos and videos were imported and I created events for each folder.  When I first opened IMovie I had to wait for it to create "thumb nails".  Then I could view the events in IMovie BUT the video clips are not together because they have vastly different dates and are mixed with videos from other events.  I looked at the dates and said I can fix that in IPhoto which i did but those new dates are not showing up in IMovie.    I think I need to somehow refresh the event data that Imovie is using but have not found how to do that in either IPhoto or IMovie.
I'm doing this on three events with about 100 photos and videos.  But I have many 1000s more to do so need to know how to either fix this or delete these events, reimport, change the dates, then open again in IMovie.   I'm sure that would work but I can't understand why changing the dates in IPhoto is not being reflected in IMovie.
    Appreciate any tips or pointers.
OBTW this is my first question as a first time Apple owner.

It was suggested I move this question to IPhoto or IMovie which I did.
Well moving to a different discussion group did not provide an answer to this question either. But what I finally did was import one batch of photos and videos into IPhoto for a given day at a time. Working with these I could change the date and times in order to get them in the original sequench taken. Then I would create an album with that batch. These would all be on the same day (IMove was closed for this phase). Then I would open IMovie, generate the thumbnails for that album, and select the album I had created. This was necessary because the importing process in IPhoto was using incorrect dates for my video so it was a real struggle finding them in IMove until I developed this approach.
I believe that this whole process was so screwy because I was importing from an external hard drive not a camera. I had these photos on a PC and did not have the original cameras to use to import directly which I am fairly sure would have made this easier!

  • I just upgraded to iMovie 10.0.1, latest release and need to move my projects and events to an external attached hard drive.  i do not see any hard drive icons in this release.  How do I do this?

I just upgraded to OSX Mavericks and also the lastest release of iMovie.  The version says 10.0.1, but is it the latest release as of 10/14/2013.  I need to free up disc space on my iMac hard drive and move the contents of iMovie libraries to an attached external drive already functioning on my system.  I need to move both events and projects and keep all intact and related.  I have seen disc drives in the previous version of iMovie, but I do not in this one.  How do I move these items? I am in desperate need for disc space.

You can create a brand new Library under File Menu>Open Library>New...
Create the new library on the external hard drive. Then drag all the Events/Projects folders into that Library. Close the Library, quit iMovie 10.x. Now test the new Library by opening iMovie again and see that all the Events/Projects are there in the New Library. You can now safely delete or close the exisitng Library file as those are now duplicates of the real Library sitting on the external hard drive.
Another way to do this is find the exisitng Library file, and simply drag it to the external hard drive in the Mac Finder (disk to disk copy of the Library file, by drag and dropping). Then go back into iMovie, File Menu>Open Library>Other... then naivgate out to the external hard drive and choose the Library you moved within the Finder.
The new iMovie 10.x is much more friendly to use the Finder to run and gun and move stuff at will. It used to be the case the Library file had to be completely managed within iMovie and doing Finder copies would break them. Now it's more flexible in that it works the way most people used to think it should work (doing drag and drop in the Finder)

  • Are the iMovie Events and iMovie Projects folders needed?

I'm using version 10.0.6 of iMovie and moved some of my projects to an external HD using File > Move Events to Library.  I noticed in my Movies folder in my home directory that the related project folders under iMovie Events and iMovie Projects weren't moved.  It seems that these are left over after upgrading iMovie and that it just uses the iMovie Library and iMovie Theater bundles.  Can the iMovie Events and iMovie Projects folders be safely deleted?

Yes they can be deleted if you have moved all the projects you want to work further on to iMovie 10, have checked that they are working OK, and are happy with switching permanently to iMovie 10.  (There's no going back).
On the other hand if you leave them you can still use the earlier version of iMovie.

  • Time to reject events in iMovie?

I have about 40min of HD events in iMovie '11 that I rejected. It has taken an hour and they are still not in the trash. Is this normal? No other app is running and MacBook is plugged into power.

When you reject videos in iMovie they are not moved to the trash. You may have noticed a red line along the top of the clips you have rejected. That is there to well, tell you they are rejected. To DELETE an entire event, reight click on the event name in the explorer window and click "Move Event to Trash." To delete just a clip, select it and hit the delete key.
    Hope this helped!

  • Merge Events Crashes iMovie '11

I have been searching to an answer to this problem for months. I organize my iMovie events by month, which involves a fair amount of splitting and merging events. Back in the August/September, 2012 timeframe, I could no longer merge events without iMovie '11 (9.08) crashing every time. It starts just fine, sets up the merged event, then just quits. No forum of any kind has discussed this same kind of problem. I had not, as far as I can tell, made any changes to my configuration betwen when this worked and when it didn't.
    I have an iMac, 20-inch, Mid 2007 running OS X 10.8.2.
    Things I have tried:
    1. Checked memory (I have 4GB, so no issues) and hard drive space (also no issues 302 GB available).
    2. Reloaded iMovie. No change.
    3. Reloaded Mountain Lion. No change.
    4. Moved two events to an external drive and then tried from there. No change. Still crashes.
    5. Looked at all of the other causes for crashes of iMovie and took those steps (deleted plists, ivx, etc...). Nothing works.
I just can't find any relief from this problem. Nothing I do seems to have even the slightest impact.
Has anybody has this problem and/or know how to fix it?
    Thanks!
    Ted

I am not entirely surprised this isn't considered a known issue. I was unable to find any evidence of others having the problem, at least until you posted this morning. I was really relieved to see I am not alone, although I am sorry you are having the same frustrations.
I did report the error to Apple on at least a dozen occaisions with a fully annotated error report each time it crashed. Or maybe 12 out of the 50 crashes. I can readily reproduce the problem, and moving the movies to another drive didn't change the behavior.
I ended up spending a few hours reimporting all my video since August, 2012, and now everything is aligned properly. And I'll continue to do the same workaround going forward. But I would like the program to work as designed.
It is now a known issue since you reported it? If not, is there a way I should be reporting it as well?

  • Deleted events in iMovie 10 does not reduce used space on hard drive

The used space on my hard drive doesn't   reduce  when I delete  big  footage (events) in iMovie 10.0.1. The deleted events were not moved to system garbage like in iMovie 11.
    Any exlanation for that?

It depends on how you migrated from iMovie 11. When you convert your Events and Projects from iMovie 11, you have the option to keep your iMovie 11 Events and Projects. If you do, the iMovie 10 Events are created by using Hard Links to the files. This means that iMovie 11 and iMovie 10 both can point to the same file. Therefore, it does not take up any more space to have events for both iMovie 10 and 11. On the other hand, If you delete an Event from iMovie 10, but do not delete the corresponding event from iMovie 11, you do not gain any disk space back.
Also, note that if you ever move or copy these events to another drive, the hard link will not carry over. At that point, both the events will take up space (basically doubling the space needed.)
