I moved my iPhoto libraries from one hard drive to another and have to manually locate the photos, every time!!!

I moved my iPhoto libraries from one hard drive to another and now every time I open a library I have to manually locate the photos. After locating the first file, it works well and remembers the location of the files of all the events, even when the folders containing the actual photos are in several different locations.
The problem is that when I close and open iPhoto, it does not remember where the files were and I have to locate at least a file, all over again.
Does anyone knows if there is a way of making iPhoto "remember" or saving the location of the files?

By default, iPhoto will store its library file under ~/Pictures. To select a library manually in iPhoto:
Ensure that iPhoto is closed.
Hold down the Option key and click on the iPhoto icon in your Dock or launch it from the Applications folder.
Click on Choose Library.
Locate and select the library you wish to use.
Close iPhoto and re-open it. Does it remember the library that you selected?
For more information on moving your iPhoto library, see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1229.
Hope that helps, have a great day.

Drag them there. The volume they’re put onto needs to be formatted as Mac OS Extended.

First transfer the photos to a folder on your MacBook using Image Capture in your Utilities folder. Then move them to iPhoto.
BTW, you might want to invest in a cheap USB hub.

Hello I have two hard drives on my mac g4 and the first has 80gig and i only have 10 gig of memory left to fill in my ipod library so... I want to move the itunes library/song data from one hard drive to another, how do I do this? the ipod has the ability to hold 40gig of songs etc. so I know the main hard drive will be full before my ipod will be... I'm new to apple and have had a pc for several years but had too many problems with viruses and like what I've learned so far on my mac thanks for your help out there... you can email me at [email protected] thanks again for any help out there

For the record, hard drives don't hav ememory it is just storage space.
Anyway, in your user folder you would want to drag the Music folder to the other hard drive. Once that is finsihed copying in the iTunes preferences you would want to point iTunes to the new drive and folder for the music folder it should be using.

I think you have to start Creative Cloud application, uninstall those CC applications from "Apps" panel, then click "Preferences..." menu item, select "Apps", change "Install Location" to another hard drive, then install those applications from "Apps" panel again.

How do i copy content from one hard rive to another through my macbook air? the copy and paste option doesn't work

It's because of the extension of the hard drive is a Windows extension ( most likely MSDOS or Ex-FAT), meaning you can only read but not write. If there are no important files (or you can copy the whole thing to your computer/mac) you can just reformat the hard drive and change the extension to NTFS (readable and writable on both windows and mac) or Mac OS Extended (readable and writable on Mac, readable on windows).
    Go to DISK UTILITY
Choose the Hard Disk you intended
    ERASE
    You can choose either

can not transfer date from one hard drive to another, I keep getting an error because I have two of the same file names and one file name is in caps and I cant change the file name. My original external has an error and needs to be reformatted but I dont want to lose this informations its my entire Itunes library.

Sounds like the source drive is formatted as case sensitive and the destination drive is not. The preferred format for OS X is case insensitive unless there is a compelling reason to go case sensitive.
Why can't you change the filename? Is it because the source drive is having problems?  If so is this happening with only one or two or a few files? If so the best thing would be to copy those over individually and then rename them on the destination drive.
If it is more then you can do manually and you can't change the name on the source you will have to reformat the destination as case sensitive.

You can deploy the ADF Project as an ADF Library Jar file and reuse the taskflow from that jar file in another BPM Application.

  • Can I move system from one hard drive to another?

I am using 10.6.8 on a Mac Pro dual quad core. My hard drive is failing and I want to put the contents including applications and system components on the new drive. I think I have Lepord disks and thought I had Snow lepard disk, but cannot find those. What do I need to do???

Clean install? you need the DVD.
Clone the system: you are fine and you can break it up like most here - system on one drive, data on 2nd
And... you need backups. Clone the system. Use TimeMachine. Have a strategy and redundancy so more than one place and copy. And rotate and buy new drives before they go and have backup and spare on hand.
Consider an SSD for the system, best $104 investment with return on performance.
    Clone
Disk utility has RESTORE which will also clone your system but not the Lion Recovery partition. Oddly  Apple did not 'endorse' making bootable clone of the system which works too but most choose Carbon Copy Cloner - it works more consistently; it allows for smart update of the backup volume. Both can backup to a sparse disk image if desired.

  • Can a Time machine backup be moved from one hard drive to another.

    Hello
There are a few questions tucked away in here...
    1
My Mac crashed due to a Kernal Panic (screen was flashing) this was happening over 2 weeks so I decided to restore from Time Machine. During a restore the Mac crashed again. So I aborted the restore. When I sparked up the Mac again the Mac's drive had been wiped So I used the OS Snow disc to restore again. When I went to my Iomega back up drive it's power had failed. The upshot is, is that right now i have lost everything. No Backup and no Mac. My external drive is with a data recovery company. I am hoping that they can access the drive and drop the backups onto another external drive (very expensive). Before I commit to this expenditure, if they are successful in accessing the drive, can the TM backups be moved in that way (from one HD to another) and will my Mac recognise these as backups for my machine and thus successfully restore?
    2
If all else fails can my Mac be recovered
    3
Once that is done i am hoping that the Kernal Panic is resolved, if not I may seek advice also on this. Right now i need my data..
    Thanks for any advice
    Mark

the first folder shown (343775 - rycaft DATA) doesn't belong there.  I'm guessing it contains some of the "loose" files that the recovery software couldn't figure out where it came from.  And/or, it may contain the system files and folders that are normally hidden on a Time Machine drive.
Hi there, the first folder is where the recovery company dropped the recovered hard drive (root) - In an attempt to put the backups at the 'top of the tree' so TM could see the files i pulled the backups file out of there..so what is left?..... I believe it is other files I had on the BU hard drive before it failed. You can see that I have an apvault on there. This is aperture's internal back up. I have not yet tried installing aperture to see if these files can be recovered into aperture. It's an old vault but the best I can get so far. As you can see though, my Itunes folder seems to be a carbon copy of what was on the original HD. I've included a screen shot of this structure also.

Did you get the original Time Machine drive back?  If so, it's a very long shot, but if it wasn't tried before, see if you can repair it with Disk Utility, per #A5 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting.
funily enough I have requested it and since paying the fee to recover this HD they wont respond to emails or calls requesting (My) hard drive back.....
So i tried right clicking the iPhoto Library and Aperture Library and I cannot see Show Package Contents.

  • Moving library from one hard drive to another in same PC

Just to let you all know right from the top that I've been trying to work with Apple's own info on this before coming here, this is the page I've been consulting:
    support.apple.com/kb/HT1364
Okay, so here's the background: I just bought a new tower computer and I made sure that there was an empty bay available for a 2nd hard drive.  What I wanted to do was move the hard drive from my old computer into this second bay and have it availble (in the near term, before I reformat it) to move data in the new computer from the old drive to the new one.
The second drive was installed, I can read from it and write to it, so there's no problem with that install..it's done and it works.
But I have not been able to find online exactly how to move as much of my previous data (music files, playlists, artwork) as possible from the old drive to the new drive (where I have a fresh install of the newest i-Tunes).  On the page referenced above, everything "tracks" right down through Step 8.  But at Step 9...I don't see any of that,  When I open File > Library I don't see either Organize Library or Consolidate Library.  In fact, the only two choices I see after File > Library are Tune On Home Sharing and Get Album Artwork.
So I'm stuck right there. What should I do next to move this info to the new hard drive *and* to a place where iTunes wants to find it?  I should be clear here that I do not simply want to *point* iTunes to the old drive and current location of the library, since the goal is to ultimately get everything from that drive that I need and then reformat it.
    Any suggestions?
P.S. BTW, the new computer is running Windows 7.  My profile shows XP because that was the OS on the old computer.

Thanks so much for the information! I have started following your steps...but might be momentarily hung on one thing:
As I mentioned, I had already done a fresh install of iTunes on the new hard drive.  As a result, under Users > Dave > My Music there was already a folder called "iTunes" there.  And the folder on my old hard drive that you wanted me to copy -- the one that contained everything (music, artwork, games, etc) -- is also called "iTunes".  So I realized I might get an error message with that, about how there's already a folder in that directory with that name, etc..
Since I had only installed the new copy of iTunes and hadn't downloaded anything new or done anything with it, I figured I should probably just uninstall it.  Then, after doing that, I copied over all those files and folders...and those copies now reside on the new hard drive.  Problem is, I now don't have an app to run.
So...should I have left the new install in place and just put the old "iTunes" folder (and contents) at, say, another level?  Or...since I've now copied all those files into the place where I thought iTunes would expect to find them, what would happen if I installed iTunes all over again?  Will it know what to do with the iTunes folder now already there?

  • I need to figure out how to tell Organizer that photos have moved from one hard drive to another

I have PSE 10 on my laptop and used Organizer to tag and view images on my laptop and on my PC via a wireless network.  My PC died but I had all the photos backed up on an external hard drive.  I want to tell Organizer to look for those photos (hundreds of them) on my external hard drive instead of trying to find them on the PC drive.  Any idea how to do this?

If you have recovered your catalog folder, which was probably on your C: drive, you can try to reconnect:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/333/333358.html
However, you have probably lost your catalog, so your only solution is to import your files again in a new empty catalog. If you had 'written metadata to files', you'll recover tags and ratings, but not albums, stacks or version sets.
