I need a new wifi-adapter/wifi-card

Hi everyone...
I'm currently thinking of buying a new wlan-adapter...
At the moment I got a D-Link DWL-122 (11Mbps)
The worst thing on this USB-dongle is that there are no Linux driver available (I got to use ndiswrapper).
Another problem is the speed:
I'm here on the second floor, but my router is in the cellar.
My maximum link quality (got this value from iwconfig) is 42%.. - BUT: I've put some CD's on my USB-dongle to get a better link quality... (this works!)
Without the CD's I only got ~30% (that's not enough to connect to the router).
Now I've been looking for a new wlan-adapter...
It don't has to be an USB-dongle, but there should be Linux drivers for the card/dongle (not with ndiswrapper!).
I've searched a bit and I found one pci-card and one USB-dongle that would fit (I'm not a wireless-pro!):
FRITZ!WLAN USB Stick (http://www.avm.de/en/Produkte/FRITZBox/ … index.html):
802.11g++ (125 Mbit/s)
costs ~35 Euro (shipping included)
Chipset: AVM (they provide a linux-driver on their website!)
Super G & eXtended Range 108M Wireless PCI Adapter (http://www.tp-link.com/products/product_des.asp?id=17):
802.11a/b/g
costs ~24 Euro (shipping included)
Chipset: Atheros (linux-driver: madwifi)
Suggestions for other wifi-adapters are of course welcome, but note that the wlan-adapter should give me a good connection...!
(I'm here on the second floor and my router is in the cellar)
Another criteria is that it shouldn't cost more than 35 Euro.
It doesn't matter if it's a USB-dongle or a pci-card (I don't have a pcmcia slot because this is my workstation)
Oh, and one last thing: I live in Germany... (if this is important)
Thanks in advance...

Hi everyone again...
I forgot to tell you which router I got...
It's a AVM Fritz!Box Fon WLAN 7050 (very nice thing )
Here is it's product page: http://www.avm.de/en/Produkte/FRITZBox/ … index.html
My router is from the same manufacturer as the USB-dongle I showed above...
USB-dongle and router support 802.11g++ (125 Mbit/s)...
But I think the pci-card has the better antenna...
Keep in mind that I don't know very much about wireless networking...
Thanks in advance..

I spilled some red wine on my keyboard and i cannot connect to the internet any more. it says on the internet icon: Wi-fi: no harware installes. so i guess i need to get a new wifi card for my mac air. do i have to buy this from a apple store? i live fare away from an apple store. Also, I do have a macbook with software system:
System Version:          Mac OS X 10.6.8 (10K549). can I take out the wifi card from that mack and use that one for my mac air?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Consider yourself lucky that your MacBook is still working. Now, turn it off. Wine may have damaged other parts of your computer.
Then, take the MacBook to an Apple Store or reseller. It will be a very expensive repair, as it's not covered by warranty and the logic board has to be replaced. In some cases, it may be better to get a new MacBook.
If you can't take it to an Apple Store, contact with Apple > http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57

  • Satellite A110 - WiFi switch is not working with new WiFi card

    Hello Everyone
I have a problem with my Toshiba Notebook Satellite A110-178 (PSAB0E). I replaced the original WIFI card Intel 3945abg with Intel Link 5100 and on the new wifi card wifi hardware switch is not working.
New wifi card is discovered and drivers working correct but when I try to scan for wifi networks with IntelPro/Wireless software I have message to turn on hardware switch but it's turn on and not work. On old wifi card swich is working correct - orange light is on. On new card light is off and swich is not working.
    Please help

    Hi
    Maybe you could enable the Wlan card using different way;
Go to device manager -> WLan card properties -> Advanced tab
There you could check if there is a option which would enables the WLan.
    Its worth a try
Otherwise its a compatibility issue like suggested by PinkPanther
I read in different threads that this could happens if there is a different pin assignment on miniPCI WLan card and this could not match with the miniPCI slot on the mobo...

  • Do i need a new charge adapter after updateing my i phone 3

do i need a new charge adapter after updating my i phone 3.

What do you mean by "updating"?  If you mean "updating the software", the answer is no.  If you mean buying a newer iPhone, the answer dpends upon which newer model you bought.

  • So I need a new iPhone 3G SIM card to activate my iPhone. I hear you can get one free at Apple Retail Stores. Is this true? If not, can someone please tell me how I can get one? I need it for 3G not 3Gs. Please? I'm desperate..

Apple does not provide SIM cards, carriers do.
Go to your carrier and get a SIM card.  Whether it is free or not is up to them.

  • New WIFI card will NOT connect correctly.

    Hi,
I just purchased a Gigafast WF748-CUI wireless card for my iMac G3 running Mac OS X Tiger (10.4.10) and I followed the instructions exactly and did everything right but it will NOT connect. It keeps generating these weird IP addresses beginning with 168. but my networks IP address begins with 192. I had the same problem with my previous WIFI card on the iMac but it would work eventually. I have been messing with this one for like 2 hours and it has shown no sign of working. I even entered a manual IP address in but still nothing. The program for the wireless card says its connected but it is not (or isnt connected to the right IP anyway). What do I do?

Sooo, there's no way the CP has to "Join" a Network? Just says you're connected to 169.x.x.x?
Might try making a New Location in Network CP, turn off all other Ports, the set the IPv4 settings to Manually...
    IP: 192.168.0.5
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Router: 192.168.0.1
Assuming the Router is 192.168.0.1, but change the 2nd & 3rd digits accorcdingly.

  • [GAVE UP] New Wifi card problem - no orange "Wifi on" light

For some silly reason the Intel Wifi 4965 agn mini-PCI card in my wife's laptop will not work with anything newer than Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron. Linux will not even "post". (I think that's the right word) So, I ordered an Intel Wifi 5100 agn mini-PCI card as a replacement.
When I installed it, Linux recognized it (hooray!) but will not use it. (boo!) The dmesg output says that the radio is disabled by the hardware switch. (the physical switch on the case of the laptop) Also, the orange "Wifi on" light does not light up any more.
Physically, the new card is an exact replacement for the old one. I don't think the two wires are on backwards. (they are labeled) I did not see anything in the BIOS related to Wifi. Toggling the switch off and on does not help. It is a Toshiba Satellite A215-S5837 with an AMD Athlon64 processor.
    Has anyone experienced this problem?
Does anyone have a suggestion of what to try?
    Thank you!

Thank you for the suggestion. I installed the firmware, the modules were loaded correctly, and the OS detected it, but it wouldn't work.
I pretty much have given up. I returned the card mentioned above. I even bought and tried another wifi card without success. My experience has been:
Intel wifi 4965 miniPCIe: Works great, but anything past Linux kernel 2.6.27 (I think it was) will not boot with the card in the computer and with the wifi switched on.
Intel wifi 5100 miniPCIe: The wifi switch never appeared to detect it. Linux detected it and installed the drivers for it, but the "wifi on" light never turned on, and Linux couldn't use it because it didn't think it was on. I gave up and returned it to Newegg. The problem may have been related to this, but that is for miniPCI cards, and not miniPCIe.
Intel wifi 3945 miniPCIe: It is branded as a Toshiba card, and so I thought it would work in a Toshiba laptop. I bought it cheap off of Ebay. It is neither detected by the OS or the wifi switch.
I'm not sure what I'll do now. I may buy a PCMCIA card. I may just leave Hardy on it until it dies.

  • Do I need a new WiFi Adaptor?,

Hi all, I cant getr any internet access. I can connect to wifi and after a few seconds or an attempt to open a page on internet I get the no internet waring sign. All other wireless devices are working fine and when I choose LAN this is fine.I have tried updating and removing drivers etc. When i hit trouble shoot it restarts my wifi adaptor which may then work for a second and just goes off again. The adaptor is a Centrino N-2230, I expect I need a new one. Assuming I do need a new adaptor is there a better adaptor I can purchase to replace this?Perhaps a faster better performing adaptor? I just remembered that in device manager I get a warning for wireless iAP not working/new driver required.WHen I try to update this driver windows cannot find a driver to suit.I looked this up and think its to do with connecting a phone? If anyone knows what this is, if it relates to my issue or where I can find a driver I would appreciate it. Any help appreciated. regards Russ

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Before you two novices continue with jumping the gun, it may help to try doing a few other things first.
Here's what I would do in a situation like cab_05's:
    1. Try the Five R's.
    2. Sad iPod sign, or look here if you're on a Windows Laptop.
Usually with a sad iPod face, a battery icon comes up, but this is just common. It would need to be charged after the iPod has worked itself up trying to handle its' own thing. It's like you would get totally tired after fighting a flu, get it?
But this isn't a virus...my guess is you disconnected your iPod when it said not to.
Read the Five R's carefully, because I don't want to have to write them all out again.
    Hope this helps!

  • New wifi card for PowerBook G4 (2002, OS 10.4.11)

    Hello,
Can anyone recommend a wifi card for a PowerBook G4?
I've just bought a secondhand model, and I'd like to broaden its wifi capability. Being able to use WPA security would be a good start.
    - Richard

I bought the WiFi card from eBay. It's a Chinese clone of a Motorola WN825Gv3 (part number: 518565-001-00). Here's the old eBay link: http://bit.ly/XmW0Gb
I can't remember exactly what settings I used on my Powerbook – mainly because I clicked things at random until it worked – but I did have to click "renew lease" in WiFI settings to get the card to work.
I didn't have to change any settings on my router, but the card isn't compatible with 5Hz WiFi frequencies, or the "n" speed WiFi.
Other than having to renew the lease occasionally, the card works smoothly.

  • Error when installing new wifi card. g50-70

Tired of having a crappy Realtek based wifi card I bought an Intel 7260 AC card as I'm upgrading my home network.
However when I install this industry standard m.2 card into it's industry standard m.2 slot and reboot.
I then get an Unauthorized Network Card message.
How do I fix this error message? It's just absurd.

According to your Hardware Maintenance Manual, page 80:

Any other card will not pass the BIOS white list. Please note the FRU number for these cards. You can't install an "off the shelf" card, without the Lenovo branding. When buying a card, make sure it's expressly stated that it will work in a Lenovo Idea system.

  • New Wifi Card?

Hello, I have been trying to upgrade my wifi card. The standard wifi card is only bgn, and I want an abgn wifi card. However, the manuel only shows possilbe wifi cards being only bgn since I have an AMD model. I was wondering if I could just install an intel wifi card even though it says "intel only" laptops. I looked up online and intel says they have no compability issues with AMD chipsets. Also, I was wondering if the whitelist still exists in this model? (Been informed that whitelists are being removed for some models)
I was thinking of getting this wifi card: http://www.amazon.com/Bigfoot-Networks-KillerN-1202-Notebook-Wireless/dp/B008H5V9ZU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UT...

  • Need recomendation - best WIFI card?

    Hey guys,
I have a question, I want to add my Power Mac to my network (wifi) at work. Currently it is the last one without wireless. But its kinda out of the way, which is the best wireless card? Should I just use the original Airport card that it takes or is there a different brand USB or PCI card for best reception? Dumb question, will a aftermarket make it work in " G " instead of " B "?
    thanks

Here's some various wireless devices from OWC http://eshop.macsales.com/search/wireless
The original Airport card would work but it has b speeds.
The USB devices would work, but your Mac has USB 1.1 speed, so again it would be slow.
The best option is a PCI card.
     Cheers, Tom

  • Ok, so now I need a new eSATA PCI Express Card for my Mac Pro

I have a Seagate eSata External Drive which comes with an eSATA PCI card.
The http://www.cwol.com/serial-ata/esata-pci-express-1-ext-1-int.htm site recommends this card: eSATA PCI Express Card - 1 eSATA II and 1 Internal SATA II Port, but it doesn't specify whether it works on a Mac Pro - any suggestions?

    Hi
I think the Radeon 9800 is certainly the most powerful graphics card you could buy for your G4 and would do everything you need.
Just be aware there are at least 3 different Mac versions though.
There's a G5 version, the Radeon 9800 Pro Mac Special Edition, which is 8X AGP and has 256MB VRAM.
There's an older Radeon 9800 Pro Mac Edition, which is 2X/4X AGP and has 128MB VRAM.
Finally there's a newer Radeon 9800 Pro Mac Edition, which is 2X/4X AGP and has 256MB VRAM.
So long as you get one of the 2X/4X AGP versions, either with 128MB or 256MB VRAM, it should work fine.
It's perhaps also worthwhile mentioning they do require a separate internal power connection, although this can be taken from a hard drive molex power connector. Also they have a cooling fan which can be noisy.
    I hope this helps.

  • What replacement wifi card do i need for iMac 21.5-inch EMC 2308 late 2009 model

Need to replace wifi card. For the life of me, I can't find the exact model # of wifi card I will need. Only that I need "AirPort Extreme (802.11g/n)," but when I search for that, I get all sorts of different shaped and sized cards that meet those specs.

I would try giving them a call at their support number.  They may be able to help both identify the correct part and know where you can get a replacement. In addition, you may also want to consider getting a wireless USB adapter. You would use this instead of the internal card. There are a number of vendors providing these as well.
