To transfer your current hard drive I like the applications Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper. They make a bootable copy of everything on your hard drive. http://www.bombich.com/index.html or http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/SuperDuperDescription.html
You'll need a cheap SATA external hard drive case. Put the new drive in the case then format and partition the new drive and clone your old drive to the new one. Check that it's set up right by booting up from the external drive. Then replace your old hard drive with the new one and put your old one in the external case.

  • Save as Word working in Standard but not Pro

    Hello,
Our firm runs Adobe Professional 9.0 and Adobe Standard 10.
We have a scanned PDF with paragraph text.
In Standard, we can save it as a Word Document and the text in Word is editable.
In Professional, we save it as a Word Document and Word shows an image of the scanned PDF.
    Questions...
Is this normal? Why would Standard work and not Professional? Could you do this on older verions of Adobe.
    Please help!
    Thanks

    Hello,
Yes I saw that feature. The problem is that the OCR does a poorer job of keeping the origianal layout.
Are you saying Standard will save to Word because it doesn't have OCR?
I'm confused why a feature would work on Standard and not Pro.
    Thanks
    Rob

  • Complimentry Portfolio for Acrobat Standard XI Not Working

  • Acrobat Standard vs. Pro?

In the past, I've used Acrobat 7 Pro to proofread PDFs, just making edits in the margins and commenting in text boxes, not permanently altering the text. I also reduced the size of PDFs that got too large after extensive editing. It's time to upgrade (I have Win 7 on a new computer) and I was wondering if Standard would fit my needs instead, as I find Pro a bit overkill, with features that I will probably never use, and Standard is less expensive. Any advice?

At Adobe's Acrobat product comparison web page:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/matrix.html
    For Standard & Pro
Review documents with a complete set of commenting tools such as sticky notes, highlighting, lines, shapes, and stamps
It may be that Acrobat X Standard  will meet your needs.
With that said, Acrobat X Pro would "grow" on you.
Consider - You annotate many PDFs through the course of time. You might desire to aggregate PDFs of a common topic.
Rather than parking them in the Fibber McGee closet of the HDD you could make effective use of Portfolios.
If desired, you could add audio annotations. More comes to mind.
Basically, the Pro release opens horizons not previously considered.
    Be well...

We are installing retail Acrobat Pro X upgrades over OEM Acrobat Standard X (that came on Dell Optiplex 390 systems). We're getting an error message that says "Setup has detected you already have a more functional product installed. Setup will now terminate." That of course, makes no sense. How do we resolve this so we can install these upgrades? Thanks.

    Your on the right track!
An easy fix is placing all the VIs in a library (lvlib), this would give the copies a new unique name to prevent bad-cross-links.
However if your alterations are only in the user interface I owuld write a wrapper around those VIs with mhy custom code in the wrapper.

  • PDFmaker (Acrobat Standard 7) not working in Outlook 2003

I recently read that I could archive my Outlook e-mails using PDFmaker. I was excited, as my .pst files are getting....large. I looked for the PDFmaker toolbar in Outlook, but it wasn't there. I fixed that problem by going to Outlook's disabled items and enabling PDFmaker. I tried selecting a folder with 3 e-mails in it and clicking the button for 'Convert Selected Folder to Adobe PDF'. A dialog box came up, had me select where to save the PDF and what to call it, and I clicked the 'Save' button. Another dialog box popped up with a progress bar, and 3 numbers at the bottom indicating how many files had been converted and how many it had skipped, etc. The progress bar made it about half-way across, and the dialog box listed 0 files as being skipped, and 2 as having been converted, and then the dialog box disappeared. I went to the folder where I tried to save the PDF's... and it's empty. No PDF files. If I go to 'My Recent Documents' in my 'Start' menu, there's an alias to the PDF file I was supposed to be creating, but clicking it gives an error that file can't be found. Searching my hard drive for a file with the name of the PDF I was trying to create also does not find anything. I got no error messages, and can't find any error logs.
I've tried just about everything I can think of; I've tried:
    1) Clicking the button to convert a folder (doesn't work, no error messages)
    2) Choosing the menu option to convert a folder (doesn't work, no error messages - same results as 1)
    3) Trying to convert a single file (button and menu option) ((doesn't work, no error messages - same results as 1)
    4) Tried using PDFmaker in other Office applications (worked fine)
    5) Trying to just print to PDF (i.e. PDF distiller works fine)
    6) Looked at troubleshooting articles for Acrobat, but they only troubleshoot for Word, and my PDFmaker works just fine in Word
    7) Did detect and repair multiple times in both Acrobat and Outlook
    8) Uninstalled Adobe Reader and re-ran detect and repair
    9) Went to Add/Remove Programs and modified my installation of Acrobat to remove the Outlook PDFmaker component, started and quit Outlook, and modified Acrobat again to put Outlook PDFmaker components and sub-components on my hard drive.
Does anyone know how to fix this?

Report your error messages so your peers, like me, can make suggestions..
Official recommendations are on http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/verizon/mail/ymail/basics/mail-12859445.html NOTE THE URL's Stick with them if using YAHOO.  I have not found a newer recommendation for pop.yahoo.verizon.net that you mention, and the help page was updated this month.
Note some have had trouble with missing intermediate certificates so get encryption errors.  Shouldn't happen (except if you are missing the root certificate, which is your responsibility),  but can be fixed by installing manually.
Some have reported needing to specify [email protected] rather than just userid, I believe on the SMTP side.  Normally you specify only userid and password without the @verizon.net.

  • Need speakers for my Macbook: questions I've not seen an answer for

Earlier this year I reluctantly upgraded from my old Luxo Jr. style iMac with the nice 17" screen and the really good sound to a 2008 black Macbook. While I needed the OS update, the smaller screen and miserable sound are a giant step backwards, and need a cure. I think I've found a monitor I can love (Samsung 2223SW) but the speaker issue has me boggled. I've now read so much I'm thoroughly confused.
Does my old iMac sound so good solely due to the speakers, or is there something in the iMac itself contributing to the sound?
Am I stuck with miserable tinny sound due to some limitation of the Macbook, or is there hope?
The goal: good sound and no wires on my desktop (I'm fed up with looking like an electronics store run amok, and so far have banished the modem and external drive to the basement courtesy of an Airport Extreme)
In an ideal world I'd find a pair of wireless speakers (either wifi or bluetooth) that sound as good as my old iMac speakers. I've searched with no luck... are there any?
The next best thing seems to be using an Airport Express (I realize I cannot use my existing Extreme for speakers) but I'm not sure I'm clear on how that would work. I'd have to have it plugged in the room I want to use the speakers in, and then plug the speakers into the Express? I'm still stuck with wires but at least they're not snaking across the desktop that way.
The Macbook would send the sound to the Express and in turn through the speakers? Is that how it works?
And I have to use Airfoil if I want to have all my sound - not just iTunes - channeled that way?
Does it matter if my iTunes library is on an external hard drive and not on the internal Macbook drive?
Anything else I need to know? I don't have a traditional stereo for the Express to stream to (which I see mentioned a lot), is that a problem? I just need speakers. I also don't need to stream to multiple rooms or Macs... just cure the sound on the Macbook.
Could the old iMac speakers be plugged into the Express?
Or do I need to get new ones such as the Creative Inspire T12 that are in the Apple Store? I've noticed those and some others say they come with a power supply... does that mean they need electricity (bleah... more wires!) ? I guess that would beat batteries, but I'm used to speakers that plug into whatever they're hooked to and nothing else , so the reference to "power supply" may be confusing me. Do you really have to plug in speakers to an outlet?
A lot of questions, I know! I've read the "Good To Know About Speakers" page in the Apple Store, searched threads here and Googled, and only seemed to wind up with more questions. :P

Thanks Doc.... that does clear a few things up. I can't find wi-fi speakers to check prices though. My search returns seem to be mostly links to pages where people are asking where to find them (lol!), those crazy-price Phillipe Somebodyorother designer speakers, or some called Oyster from Avega that seem to be vaporware
I did find wireless speakers on Amazon, but they're not what I think of as wi-fi (using the Macbook's already-installed Airport) since you have to plug a transmitter into the computer (which makes it Yet Another Device To Be Unplugged when moving a laptop around).
It's beginning to sound like the Express + speakers is the best route, since that at least gets the wires off the desktop and not directly attached to the Macbook. I'm not sure what the plug on the iMac speakers is called. It would be nice if they worked since they don't require being plugged into the wall.

  • Adobe Acrobat Standard XI Not Responding

This is the third time this has happened. While scrolling down the page, Acrobat stops responding. I have to uninstall and reinstall the software and then it works again. Any ideas how to prevent this from happening again?

    Anubha,
I did not receive a response to my comment (#7, Jan 29) for my specific situation. In it are all the details that have been requested by Adobe more than once. No, I have never used a third party pdf creator. If this is a Win 7 problem, as suggested by another member, we won't get any help from MS as the have stopped supporting Win 7. This problem may be an interesting marketing ploy for us to go to Win 8 or 10 and or buy a new computer.
Here is Item #7 copied and pasted to hopefully save some time.
"I am experiencing the same random "Not responding" issue. Here is some additional information. I am using Acrobat Pro 11.0.10 installed as part of Adobe Creative Cloud subscription. The Creative Cloud indicates the SW is up to date even though the update history does not show any updates applied.
I am running Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64 bit. This happens in all applications where I use the Print command and select Adobe PDF printer. It does not matter when the files are created. Another symptom is the "Convert" button in Internet Explorer (v11.0.9600.17501) does not work. Nothing happens when it is clicked.
Hopefully we have provided sufficient information for Adobe to find the SW issue and fix it.
Ironically, Acrobat has been one of my most reliable go to tools."
