I need my macbook to "rediscover" my Verizon EVDO card as a new device
After installing and uninstalling Verizon Access Manager, the EVDO card is no longer in my network preferences. But when I insert the card, it will not discover it as a new device.
The way I use my 3g dongle is to create a new network location specific to that device.
Insert your EVDO device, then goto your network preferences, click the location dropdown and choose edit location.
In the edit location window click the + sign and create a new network location name it EVDO if you like, then click done and finally apply.
Now the mac should display all your network ports in the left collumn. Delete all of them except your EVDO device.
then click apply.
Then you can use the location menu item in the apple menu to switch network locations.

X300 Verizon/EVDO/Sierra No Modem in Device Manager
Just got my x300 and downgraded from Vista to XP sp 3.
I'm trying to activate the integrated Verizon Wireless card, Lenovo lists it as Sierra 5720.
I've downloaded the driver, ran it rebooted as well as the update and the instructions say to go to device manager under "Modems" or "Systems" to look for the drivers but I find no listing of "Modem" before or after I installed the drivers.
(Also I called Verizon Wireless and they have no information on integrated cards in x300's and VZAM.net does not list a download for the x300.)
When I called support they told me to send my laptop in for repair or just return it because it's defective!
Also I think there is something wrong with the mouse and keyboard as sometimes they stop responding or only get 1/2 of my input.Thanks for your answers so far.

No I have win 7 clean install (instead of Vista), which is the reason I tried the workaround I linked to.

No yellow bangs in the device manager, and, even more important only one entry called something like "Toshiba virtual modem" under "modem" in the device managaer (I thinkthat the four entrys for the 3g moduldrivers should be under "modem" in the device manager)
- Is it possible to check this powerrail without having to disassemble the whole notebook? Where is the modul located?
@xardas: I think it has, at least the guy who sold me the (used) notebook said so. The model Number begins with ppm70e, which I believe is the specific model of m700. There also is a sticker with a "wireless WAN IMEI" and a number at the backside and a slot for the sim-card behind battery-pack, which both would be very suspicious for a notebook not having a 3G modul. -
Do I need to tell Lightroom to use the Graphics Card in my new laptop?

I have a new laptop and have successfully transferred my pics, catalogue and LR settings across.
It has better specs than my last one, including a decent (I think!) dedicated graphics card. I have always had integrated graphics before so am not sure how this works. Do I need to tell applications, such as Lightroom, to use the graphics card, or will this be automatically be done by the software/operating system? If I do need to do anything, is this in each software (like Lightroom), the computer settings, or in some third party control software?

The account settings for a Verizon email account are the same for either platform.
You need the following required info regardless if wanting to create a Verizon email account with an email client on a PC running Windows or with an email client on a Mac running OS X.

No eSATA to USB. Just a SATA/IDE to USB adapter. Google SATA/IDE to USB adapter and you will get tons of links to buy them. Most likely your local computer electronics store has them, although they might be more expensive buying locally than online.
I have several. You can get either USB 2, which what I recommend, or USB 3. USB is backward compatible so a USB 3 adapter will work on a USB 2 port and a USB 2 adapter will work on a USB 3 port. Backward compatible in both directions.
I suggest a USB 2 type because there have been some problems with certain USB 3 devices, the USB 3 interface used isn't all that good in those certain devices. USB 3 is still fairly new where as USB 2 has been around for over 10 years.

SIgn in with your Apple ID, the same one you used to access this support forum.
Hopefully, you will see a list of all the devices you registered with your Apple ID, including their serial numbers. Let me know how this works out.
Edit to add: If you enabled "find my imac" on your Pro, you ought to be able to remotely lock it, or even wipe its memory. Click http://www.icloud.com/ sign in with your Apple ID and click the big green "find my iPhone" icon (nevermind the name, it will find all your devices provided they're running Lion or iOS 5).
Then file a police report and nail the b*****d. -
Whenever I insert my verizon air card into my MBA, I get the message "the disc you inserted was not readable by the computer", with the option to either ignore or eject. I select ignore, and am able to connect to the internet, but don't know why this happens. Also, the air card is not showing up as a peripheral on my desk top. Any ideas why this might be happening and how to fix it?
When I unplugged (power) and plugged in again to restart it, yes, I heard it spin and click. Not since then though. I assumed it went to sleep and since the computers don't recognize it they won't wake it.

The issue has nothing to do with your MacBook Pro. You are using a different version of OS X.
If you are using Apple's Mail application, it will search both previous contacts and the address book as you type the send address.

I need a MacBook experts, master to help me!!! I just tried the craziest series of moves on my mac.
Begun when the mac hung for nearly an hour. I held the power key to force a shut off.
This made me think of erasing some things on my hard drive. I used cmd r for disk utility and begun erasing volumes.
Then, I thought instead, why not just reinstall OSX since nothing I wanted was on it.
I tried to reinstall OSX but this time it loaded then suddenly said, an error occurred.
I Went back to disk utility and cleared stuff I can't even remember.
Another unbelievable thing happened. The disk utility actually hung for a good ten minutes! i went and forced a shut off again.
Now, whenever I turn the mac on, a flashing folder appears.
at this point, I usually turn to the net for answers.
Greatest thing is, every cmd something I try doesn't even trigger a reaction. Only cmd opt showed my mouse cursor.

Do I really need a Macbook Pro over a Macbook Air?
I'll be using a notebook, well...as a notebook. But I'll also be using it in a desktop setup with an external monitor at home (which has become largely how I use notebooks these days). I have an ancient white Macbook currently, which essentially cannot stream videos of any quality. My question is if I really need a Macbook Pro (I would wait for the new Retina update due in the next couple of months) or would the currently generation of Macbook Air suffice? I would definitely need something capable of streaming HD videos online (think Netflix, etc.) Thanks fellas.

The MacBook Air works for that job without any problem. The Intel HD Graphics 5000 GPU is not the best you can find, but it can stream HD videos. Also, note that the 13-inch MacBook Pro has got an older GPU which is similar. You don't need a 15-inch MacBook Pro to stream HD videos -

how do i connect a macbook pro to a verizon wireless network? Wi-Fi connection automatically assigns an IP address and indicates that the Mac won't be able to connect to the internet. Two other MacBook Pros connect to the network without any problems. These Macs travel from home to school and back again and automatically reconnect when they are brought into the house.
I have read a few corporate IT policies and they are all PC-centric.
Unless your mac runs any windows tools such as Bootcamp Wine, Crossover, or a VM in parallels or VMware then your mac has no virus implications.
A few years ago word documents could be infected with macro viruses and although did not affect a mac a mac could pass them on. Up to date versions of Microsoft Word documents are not vulnerable to this flaw.
You could install ClamAV its a free anti virus app for the mac that would keep your IT dept happy.
Maybe I can find out what the WEP key is with a utility of some kind.
If you had a compatible usb wifi dongle and kismac you could crack their WEP key but this would be probably illegal in your country so I dont condone this activity but if you got written permission from your employer to give them a free penetration test, something that normally involves hiring a security company this would save them money and highlight the insecurity on their network.
Or use an Ethernet connection. -
