I need reviews for Ooma vs Nettalk (VOIP)

Hello, I found nowhere to post but here, since it's somehow linked to phones.I bought a Nettalk 2 years ago, but I'm now looking to switch to Ooma. The main reason is the sound quality. It gets "parasited" pretty often on my side or the other, independantly of my internet connection, which is very good (3Mo/sec) and idle when I talk. I know that VOIP uses UDP so it cannot be 100% reliable, but still, I wonder if it can be better. By sound quality I mean no cuts or skips. They last for 1/4 of a second but they are repetitive when it starts and suddently stop 10sec later. Since Ooma explain pretty much how good its sound quality is, I wonder if I should switch on it. But their device is expensive, more much than Nettalk. So I'm an ordinary user that ask other users who experienced Ooma. Does their quality is true? No skips or cuts on the line? It is worth spending ~120$ to switch on Ooma? Thank you.

Hello there , welcome to Plug-In!
It seems Ooma and Nettalk aren't the talk of the town in these parts  but have you had a chance to check out the customer reviews on the product page just yet? If you follow the links above and scroll down to Customer Reviews, you can see feedback from those who have actually purchased the item and made use of it.
Hope this helps and do come back to let us know how it all goes!

  • Need review for Enhancing the quality of ABAP development book

    Hi,
I'm looking for advance abap book and notice there is Enhancing the quality of ABAP development book that seems like quite interesting.
Anyone can give small review for this book and whether this book still up to date with current ABAP language? Thanks.

    Hi Amit,
    Thanks for the response.
I'm actually looking for advance ABAP book that not only contains how to create ABAP program but how to create ABAP program.
From the table of content, it seems like the "Enhancing the quality of ABAP development" is clearly describe how to write good ABAP program and still balance in term of giving suggestion for ABAP as procedural language and ABAP Object. The thing is, I don't know whether there is some content in the book that already obsolete. For instance, is there any statement in that book that recommended but now already not recommended anymore? If all the statement is still valid as of now, I think this book is still good to read.
I do already have ABAP objects book from Horst Keller, but I will not enforce ABAP developers in my current organization to be written in full OOP. At least not in 1-2 years. If the procedural ABAP still working properly and high performing, I don't see any reason why I should force my team to switch totally to pure ABAP object that definitely will take more time to learn and develop, but anyway, that's different subject from this thread.

  • Any steps for Setting up NetTalk on M20

I notice there is a method to set up xbox for use on cisco valet router m20 by accessing the router page and tweaking some of the settings.
Is there a similar method to dedicate one of the router ports for use by NetTalk?
I have inconsistent performance and think the router may need tweaking.
I think NetTalk can be set to 4.2.2.2 (or something to this effect)
If anyone is interested in what I am experiencing - when NetTalk is plugged into the router, the led light for the port is blue while the other leds stay green.  Which I think is correct and a good thing.
However, sometimes the NetTalk goes off line and i have to disconnect it from the router to re-establish connectivity.
And sometimes all the ledsl turn blue and requires that i unplug the NetTalk gadget from the router and reset everything.
    Update to above post:
The following response was provided to me by NetTalk Support.  Can anyone help me execute the steps below?
    " Hello,
We believe a port change in your unit may alleviate your current issue. Please, if possible, place your DUO on the DMZ option of your router by logging into the router interface and placing the DUO's IP into the DMZ.
Alternatively you can port forward Port 80 TCP to the IP of the DUO. This will allow us to gain access to the DUO via the public IP from our end and allow us to make the necessary port change. Let us know when this is done.
Once this is done please visit http://www.canyouseeme.org/ and check to see if port 80 is visible. If it is visible then generally we should be able to access your unit."
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    @ HDNUT
Well, if you are using (or want to use ) nettalk directly from your router, there is no problem with configuring the router with placing the nettalk ip in DMZ.
If setting up a DMZ dedicated to for the NetTalk device doesn't improve your situation, you will likely need to send the unit in for replacement or get your money back from the retailer due to the device being incomptable with your system.  My suggestion is to get your money back and try something else.
(Unfortunately, I waited too long for the NetTalk people to help me and i forfeited my option to return the inoperational device for a refund. NetTalk finally sent me a firmware update which killed the device DEAD.   It required a number of emails and then threats and many weeks to finally get them to issue a replacement.  To date, i havent received one yet and it may not still work when i do. So i recommend for you not to wait if device isn't working after setting up the DMZ.)
In any case, when the router no longer has NetTalk connected to it, you can remove the DMZ settings from via the router page.
The steps for configuring the DMZ are provided in this thread.  (They were eventually provided to me by the NetTalk people  and I saved them on this thread for others.)
    Good Luck !
PS: A friend of mine has the same computer configuration as i do but uses OOMA VOIP with great success but its pricy.

    7. Press DELETE or F1 when prompted at first reboot after flashing.
    8. Load BIOS optimized defaults, then save settings and exits.
    Drivers & Needed Files:
(Note: All these drivers are for Windows XP.)
Leaked Nvidia nForce3 Chipset Drivers Version 4.40
(Please use at your own risk, these are LEAKED drivers. Password for the .zip file is "ocworkbench rules". Also, you will need to rename the WinXP_2K folder in IDE to either WinXP or Win2K else the installer doesn't pick it up.) Thanks for the link Wonkanoby!
*NEW* Leaked Nvidia nForce3 Chipset Drivers Version 5.03
More leaked drivers? Seems some parts of the drivers are older and some are newer.
    1. Windows XP Service Pack 1A (Web Install) -or- Windows XP Service Pack 1A (Full Install)
    2. Microsoft DirectX 9.0b (Web Install) -or- Microsoft DirectX 9.0b (Full Install)
    3. Nvidia nForce3 Chipset Drivers Version 4.24
    4. AMD Athlon 64 Processor Driver Version 1.1.0.14
    5. Nvidia Video Card Driver Version 56.72 -or- Omega Nvidia Video Card Driver Version v1.5303
(The Omega drivers are third party drivers optimized for gaming, most prefer these over the standard Nvidia drivers.)
    5. ATI Video Card Driver Version 4.7 -or- Omega ATI Video Card Driver Version 2.5.51
(The Omega drivers are third party drivers optimized for gaming, most prefer these over the standard ATI drivers.)
    6. Onboard Sound Driver (Realtek AC'97 Audio Codec) Version A3.61
It is HIGHLY reccomended that you install the drivers/needed files in the order listed above. Please note that there are two #5's because you either install one or the other depending on your video card, do not install both of them.
You will come across a problem here though. You can't install the chipset drivers without installing the Windows service pack and DirectX first, but the Windows service pack and DirectX installs need the internet to download files and you won't have working internet until you install the chipset drivers. Here's what I did to get around this. Instead of downloading the web install versions of Windows service pack and DirectX, download the full version and and put them along with all the other drivers on a backup hard drive or burn them to a CD, this way you will have all the drivers you need when it's time to install them and none of them will require the internet to download files.
Another note when installing drivers. Apparently the Nvidia chipset drivers also come with drivers for the onboard sound, but people seem to agree that the Realtek onboard sound drivers are better. When you are installing the Nvidia chipset drivers, just be sure to uncheck the box for sound drivers when it asks you which drivers you would like to install. Now you can safely install the Realtek drivers without any chance of conflicting sound drivers. Thanks for the tip Wonkanoby!

The installer still reccomends to install it beforehand for full USB 2.0 functionality... I would have put what you said in there but I wanted to keep it as simple as possible.
oh.  IIRC the installer just says USB 2.0 will be fully functional after SP1 is installed.  So after you install SP1 you go into device manager and u click update driver and it will auto search and update the driver.
Simplicity-wise, i guess its pretty much equal.  It might take less preparation to just copy DX9 full onto a CD and install that first, then nforce driver, then right away you have yoru internet connection.
but i dunno.. i guess i will try it your way this time when my RMA"d board comes.
i will be fomratting and doing a fresh install later on today and will let you know if i come across any problems

  • Error Message When Leaving Review For Apps Downloaded Using a Different Country App Store

    DEVICES AND SOFTWARE:
    iPhone 6 Plus iOS 8.1.2, Macbook Air 11" 2013 OSX 10.10.2, iTunes 12.1.0.50
    DESCRIPTION:
When attempting to leave a review for an App that has been previously downloaded or purchased using a different country store but on the same Apple ID - the user receives an error message. The issue stems from the App not being in the Purchase History of the presently associated country store as purchase history is country dependent rather than Apple ID dependent.
    STEPS:
    1. Login the App Store on iTunes or iOS Device using an Apple ID associated with a country.
    2. Download an App for the first time using said Apple ID.
    3. Change the country of said Apple ID.
    4. Attempt to leave a review of the previously downloaded app.
    EXPECTED RESULTS:
A user should be able to leave a review to an App he/she has previously downloaded whilst the Apple ID is associated with a different country. The App Store button should show Downloaded after the country change and the App should continue to be displayed in the Purchase history. In other words the purchase history should not be country dependent but Apple ID dependent.
    ACTUAL RESULTS:
User gets an error message indicating that the app needs to be downloaded or purchased first.
    NOTES:
I have tried deleting my reviews from the original country store, and yet I am still not able to leave a review. Please make the purchase history dependent on the Apple ID rather than the Country Store. If this is not possible, provide a way for users to remove to delete the purchase history from the previous country store(s) - so these apps can appear on their current country store's purchase history. Thus they would be able to leave reviews for these apps.

  • HT201991 How does one write a review for an app?

I would like to write a review for an app I bought from the App Store.
"Locate the item that you would like to write a review for."
Where? In the App Store via the internet (e.g. on my iMac), OR via the App Store button on my iPad Mini?
"Click "Write a Review" in the Customer Reviews section."
How? I could find no active link associated with the Customer Reviews section once I had located the item for which I wanted to write a review.
So the question remains "How does one write a review for an app?" … and, so far as things stand, the instructions provided in the page <http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3928> are, as far as I can tell useless. Certainly, the Apple website and associated instructions have become, for this long-time user, more akin to Microsoft Windows in their impenetrable lack of intuitive, user-friendly ccharacter.
Oh yeh. To add to my 'disgruntledness' … How come there is no iPad Mini option in the Product drop down below?
Where is Steve Jobs when you need him?!

I have been having this issue for months, now--at least 3-4.  I updated my credit card info on my account, thinking maybe that would do it, but NOPE--can't review a single thing I've ever purchased in iTunes--not from my iPhone 5, PC or iPad 2.  Ridiculous, at this point...just remove the ability to review at all, if this is how it's going to be. SO frustrating.

  • Is there an app on the iPad that resembles Microsoft Office?  I need it for school.  If there is please let me know.  Thanks  :-)

Is there an app on the iPad that resembles Microsoft Office?  I need it for school.

The basic apple equivalent to ms office is called i works, which has three components.  Pages is word, numbers is xl, and keynote is powerpoint.  There are many subtle differences, but the are more or less functionaly equivalent.
There are also a number of third part apps available to replicate office functions, such as good reader, docs to go, and my favorite, quick office.     Read the reviews in the app store and pick the one that will do what you need.
You will also get some other suggestions here.

  • Need solution for multiple Firewire needs

My new 27" 2011 imac will arrive next Monday. I'm now trying to define and solve all potential hurdles.
I seek recommendations on how to best solve my need to attach 2 original  firewire cables, into this imac that only comes with 1 firewire 800 input. Both connectors are critical to my  work. One connector will turn hard to the right for about six feet to connect to my Digi02 audio interface. The other cable connects and turns hard to the left for 15 feet to connect to my Epson 2200 art printer. Both of the outboard equipment need the original firewire.
I have considered daisy chaining the audio interface and the printer. Except they are on opposite sides of my studio, and I prefer NOT to use a 25 foot firewire cable between such critical peices of hardware.
A better possibility may be a firewire hub, although it will probably also need adaptors for the different versions of firewire i need. That seems rather inelegant. Another possibility would be to get one USB to firewire adaptor and one firewire to 800 adaptor. Do these USB to firewire adaptors work OK?
Anyway, which of these methods would you recommend as my best choice? Are there other choices i haven't mentioned here?

The guy is totally correctin his review.
That is how FireWire works. The FireWire bus will run only as fast as the slowest device on the bus. So as soon as plug in a FW400 device, everything is then clocked down to 400FW.
If you need to have both FW800 and FW400 devices running at their native speeds you need two FW busses each with their own controller.
Because of the limited expansion capability of the iMac, I don't see any way for you to get around this limitation.
If you get a Mac Pro then you could use a FW PCIe card for the second bus and controller.

  • Automating Shared Review for Reader using the Acrobat 9 SDK

I am new to the Acrobat SDK as well as writing plug-ins.
However, I have been tasked with implementing a "Shared Review" in Reader for collaborative proofing.  I understand how to do this using the "Send for Shared Review" wizard in Acrobat, however I need to automate this process.  The PDFs that will be proofed in a "Shared Review" session using Reader are generated from a hot folder process, so there is no physical end user to run the Acrobat 9 "Send for Shared Review" for every PDF.  I need to automate this process.
I was told that the SDK would allow this, but at the same time I have read some posts that claim this can not be done in the SDK and LiveCycle is required.
Can someone confirm that the SDK can enable a PDF for "Shared Review"?  If so, how is this done?
If it can not be done, is the only option LiveCycle or can an Acrobat macro be written to simulate the "Send for Shared Review" wizard?
    Thanks in advance.

Is it technically feasible?  Yes, but it is far from simple.
    Is it possible?  Probably not.
In order for Reader to load a plug-in, that plug-in must contain a certificate provided to you by Adobe after completing the "RIKLA" process (Reader Integration Key License Agreement).  Part of this process is a team at Adobe reviewing the purpose of your plug-in to verify that it does not try to duplicate functionality available in Acrobat.  For this reason, I don't think your plug-in would be approved.  You should certainly submit a RIKLA application anyways just to make sure (you can do this before you start with any code so you're not wasting effort if it gets declined).
You can find the RIKLA info here:

  • Reviews for apps.

Something that annoys me about iTunes is that to be able to leave a review for an app sold on iTunes you must purchase the app first. This means that if you use a trial version of an app and it turns out to be a piece of c**p, like Tune-Up for iTunes, you have to purchase a piece of c**p to leave a review that it is a piece of c**p. There isn't even a way to contact Apple/iTunes to address this issue so here I am in the community. My issues are  2:
    1) Leaving a review for a trial version of an app so others won't waste their money and forcing the develpoers to pay attention to reviews and improve their apps.
    2) Apple/iTunes doesn't have a means to communicate directly trrough a customer service site, only this forum. How could this be changed?

you can't review a light app unless you purchase a full version.
That is wrong. You can review a light/free version if you obtain that version; I've done it on several occasions. You do not need to own the full/paid version to review the light version. If you want to review the full version, you do have to buy that version. You can review the version you own, and only that version. Reviews are not linked, so the review of a light version will not appear in the full version, and vice-versa.
Why would anyone purchase a full version of a lousy app just to write a review that it's a lousy app?
Because unless you own that version, you have no standing on which to claim it's a lousy app. A "light" or "free" version may be very different, and in many cases reviews I've seen rate a light/free version as lousy solely because of features only available in the paid version.
Again, you have the feedback page via which you can comment to Apple. There's no further reason to continue this conversation.

Need instructions for downloading/installing Flash Player in my PC

Hi, This is the Adobe Flash Player Uninstall link:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html
This is the Adobe Troubleshooting Guide which you may want also to review. I would suggest using the Manual Installers which you can download and SAVE to your Desktop. Pay attention to any apps using Flash, you may need to Disable any Anti-Virus. Be sure to use the Administrator Account and check Settings. Be sure to Reboot after running the Uninstaller and also after Installing.

  • HT204266 Can't write review for any apps. It keeps repeating to ask you for password, and it never goes through.

Recent, I have a few apps having problems. I just want to write it on the apps review. I go to the reviews of the apps, and click write a review. First it will pop-up a box with my Apple ID already on the box where I just need to enter password. After I entered password, it will pop up another message box to request me password. This time it also says, "AOL members can sign in using their AOL username and password." Then I click the "Sign In" button on the bottom to enter password again. Then it will just pop up the "AOL" message box again, and I just repeating the same procedure. I tried to input different password. It will reply the password is incorrect immedicately. Thus, I can't write review for any apps now.
I wonder this may happend since the last update of the IOS, and then I have a few apps encoutered problems.

Your profile indicates your Mac as v10.8.1 installed.
If that is correct, updating your system software may help the review issue.
Either click Software Update from your Apple menu 
Or open System Preferences > Software Update and click Check Now.

  • I can hardly leave review for any app.

It is all time fail to me when it comes to leaving a review for the app that I am using. After spending time typing in my words and submit, the screen will pop out and tell me that my nickname is taken. There is no choice but to tap "ok" and then everything swiped like nothing had happened before!! No fail!! There is a least let me get the chance to change my nickname to a different one than wipping away all my writing.  It tells how much the app store would really care about your reviews. I want to know if there is anybody else having the same experience.

And here is a link to the iPhone/iPod version of the online help:
    http://help.apple.com/garageband/iphone/1.3/index.html
Download the pages on a computer, that has internet and print them to pdf, then combine them to one pdf document and sync that document as an iBook to your iPod using iTunes.
You may want to use the Send feedback. link to let Apple know that a pdf version of the Help is needed.
