I need to add text over a still photo in iMovie. Following directions that always worked before but not this time.

I am running OS 10.6.8, an upgrade that I did after Christmas. A couple of times a year, I need to make a video of my students' performances, and have always been able to add text over the still photos before, using the directions in iMovie "help." However, this time, I am not able to choose a title style; no amount of clicking makes anything show up on the selected still photo. And no amount of trying to choose the font style makes anything show up either.
This is iMovie 09; is it possible that it is not compatible with my OS upgrade?
I've been able to insert still photos into the video footage, but can't add any titles or acknowledgements. Thank you so much for your help! Since I only do this a couple of times a year, it always takes me forever to accomplish, which is why I printed off the Help directions to follow.

make a selection of an Event and add it to the Project
select a title and drag it onto the clip?

Either the physical drive or the enclosure electronics has failed. The light you are seeing is powered by the USB connection, the power, electricity, all USB ports put out. That doesn't mean the actual physical hard drive or the USB to SATA bus electronics are working properly. If it doesn't show in Disk Utility then it is DEAD.
Most of the time it is the enclosures electronics that fail. Removing the physical drive from the enclosure and put it in another enclosure or using a SATA to USB adapter, one that has it's own AC power supply, might allow you to get the files off the drive.

Place the Timeline Indicator on the Timeline where you want the text to start.
Text Menu/New Text/Default Text to open the Titler where you create you text. Close the Titler.
The Timeline text file goes on the track directly above the video.
You can drag on the edges of the text file to alter its duration - to extend across the whole Timeline content if wanted.
If th text overlays the video at a place on the video that is black, you can change the color of text in Color in the Text section of the opened Titler. Remember that the black that you see in the opened Titler before you type is transparency not the color black.

I am trying to add text to the I photo book inside the which indicate the boundaries but a red triangle has appeared. for indicate the boundaries for such text, however there is a small red triangle appearing to say that I have too much text.

Check the font size, if it's just a little too close to the top of the box, it will reject it.

When attempting to print in Pages, I keep getting a message that no printer is detected. I have checked all connections and they are solid, this printer has always worked before, and even if I try to add it, I still get that message.

You may just have an outdated printer driver.
Menu > Edit > Print > Printer: Add Printer

IMovie HD crashes when tapehead runs over any still photos

I'm on a mac pro/Leopard with 80 G/20 gigs ram extra and the iMovie trash is empty and I'm not running any backup HD. I've tossed preferences several times.
I've narrowed down the multiple crashes of my iMovie HD 6.0 to when the head runs over a still photo (with the KB Effect or not). If I take off the effect, the photo never shows up. the photo is timing to show for nearly 2 secs.
I've tried seeing if it makes a diff if the still photo is coming from the clip file or from the media/photo file and whether or not the adjacent files are both hilighted (blue) or not. It doesn't. I've tried a transition and it plays along with the clip before it, but it all is crashing after, when the head enters the still photo, period.
Any thoughts?

OK, after going back over the tutorial and resetting my preferences to a lower quaility playback, (originally I went with what was suggested in the Lynda.com tutorial, to use "Highest (field blending), it now seems to be working... if I use either of the 2 lower qualities of "Standard" (smoother motion) or "High" (better image)...
I'm not even sure what "field blending" is, but if this works, then does this give you (Klaus) an indication of just what is wrong? I don't understand the ramifications. So hopefully I can move ahead now.

Let's assume you have iMovie 11 (Version 9). (If you have a different version, let me know. The instructions will be different.)
First, get an app called MPEG Streamclip, which is free. (google MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5)
Open MPEG Streamclip.
In iMovie, select the clip you need. Then, right-click/Reveal in Finder.
Drag this clip into MPEG Streamclip
In MPEG Streamclip, move the playhead to the frame you want.
In MPEG Streamclip, click FILE/EXPORT FRAME.
Choose JPEG, TIFF, or PNG and give it a name.
You can then drag this photo into iPhoto.
I have created a short video Tutorial on how to do this. There is one error in the Tutorial, where it says that Command-click is the same as right-click. I should have said Control-click instead.

I have tried "freeze frame" but I cannot seem to get a movie clip to export a still photo in iMovie '11. Edit- create still does not exist in iMovie '11.

Preset or change duration of still photos in iMovie project

I work with iMovie 11 and never had any problem with previous versions.
Now I'm doing my first project in iM 11 and it just ignores my requests
When I set the duration in 'Project Properties' 'Apply to all photos' to e.g. 4 sec it will set the duration anything from 5 to 7 sec and no matter how often I change it will not react. If I set it to 3 sec (as an example) it will allow 5 sec. but never what I would like the duration to be.
This is a really annoying issue, more so when there a lot of still photos in the project.
Is there any way to rectify this or what else can I do???

A number of people have experienced the same problem and written about it on discussions. Lots of difference solutions as well. If you search using the title quoted above, you can read the solution I found. It's more complicated than it should be. I've never had to fiddle as much with duration times for transitions and still photos. Nevertheless, the steps I have described work for me. You will also find the steps another reader offered that may work for you if all of your transitions are set for the same durations and all of the still photos are as well.

This came from another thread, but worked for me. Problem is with newest iTunes 4.62. Unistall iTunes, as well as its helper programs (Apple Application Support, Apple Mobile Divice Support, and Apple Software Update). Reboot, and reinstall iTunes. It will reinstall all the other ones and you should be able to connect your nano. Good luck.

It's easy to rename each unit. When you connect your iPad and it syncs, the unit will appear on the left of the iTUnes screens just click on the unit there and you can rename it. You should do this immediately so you can see which unit was backed up by it's name. You can sync as many decices as you want in one iTunes library and you can even share Apps as long as you're going to sync both from teh same iTunes account. My household has 2 iPad 2s and we share our apps, and we also share downloaded books, magazines, music, etc.......
