I need to sign a java webstart application but Im no coder

Hi
I have a java webstart application that was writen for me by a coder that I can no longer contact. I was given all the souce code for the application including an unsigned jar file. What I would like to know is how do I go about getting the application signed by a trusted authority so that the people who use the app for the first time dont get the big ugly warnings. I have no java programing experience at all so any help will be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Dean

Please note that users will still get a message, because signing does not infer trust, it only establishes identity.

  • How to launch a Java WebStart application with older JREs when Java 7u25 is on the client?

    How can I launch older versions of my Java WebStart application, that are built and run with Java 7u21 or earlier, even if Java 7u25 is installed locally on the client? Application launch and behaviour must be reliable and consistent.
    Background:
    As of 7u25 (and later), Java Webstart applications launch with a different class loader than pre-7u25.
    My Java Webstart application has supported versions that were built with older versions of the JDK (e.g. Java 5, 6, 7u21 or earlier). These applications run with their required JRE version, enforced through JNLP. Once Java 7u25 is installed locally, these older applications fail to launch, due to classloader differences.
    The question is: what is required to run older Java WebStart applications even if 7u25 (or later) Java Webstart is installed locally on the client?

    I confirm your findings when using shortcuts to try specific versions of JavaWS with 7u25 or later installed:
    JRE 5u14 launched and the classloader was as pre 7u25
    JRE 6u43 would not launch
    JRE 7u21 launched but the classloader was not as pre 7u25
    You can launch the shortcut with the JavaWS -verbose option to display a messagebox with valuable information.
    I am keeping a close watch on this thread.

    The CC has been activated twice In the months of June & July this year. To install & activate it for third time.
    You need to deactivate it from PC,
    When you install it on the third computer or for the third time & when you to activate it, if it installed & activated already twice, there will be an option of deactivating it from the previous computers, please click on that.(To deactivate from preinstalled machine, Open any Adobe CC application > Help Menu > Signout.)
    Next it will allow you to activate on your new machine,
    Now you can go back to your first computer, log out & log back in of Desktopp CC App, launch any product, if there is any product to buy, in that prompt there will be an option to " license the software", please click on that & sign in.
    It will reactivate the CC on the first machine.
    You have already deactivated it from one machine, hence you can activate it on third computer.

  • Java WebStart application fails to load when cache is disabled.

    We have a problem with our application when using the latest version of Java (Update 20). We a lanching a jnlp file using Java WebStart.
    Until to the early release Update 21 b05, we had the following exception:
    java.lang.NullPointerException

         at java.util.jar.JarVerifier.mapSignersToCodeSources(Unknown Source)

    Which was fixed with the following bug resolution: http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6943522
    Now with that latest version that initial problem got resolved, but a new one appeared. The problem described below, only appears when the "Java Cache"
    of the control panel is disabled. We tested all the following scenarios:
    - Cached data cleaned / Cache enabled: Works
    - Cached data / Cache enabled: Works
    - Cached data cleaned / Cache disabled -> Exception
    - Cached data / Cache disabled -> Exception
    * We have already check the signature of the resource manually and it is correctly signed.
    * We have checked the jnlp with JaNeLA, and it's good.
    * No matter what we change, every time Java Cache is disabled, we get the exception.
    The exception thrown is the following:

    Can someone give any light on this issue?
    For me it look very clearly like another bug related the first fix, but I wanted to pop the question here first.
    For now we are recommending our customers, to keep with Java Update 18 (Last working version),
    but it's becoming a bigger issue, since more and more customers are trying to update to the latest version.
    Regards.

    For me it look very clearly like another bug related the first fix, but I wanted to pop the question here first.Normally I would ask a lot of questions and demand more evidence before thinking of agreeing to such an assessment, but you seem to have put in the research needed to cover most of that.
    There were some recent (last month or three) reports of broken cache management, but AFAIR they were supposed to be fixed by update _20. Try update _21, and if that does not resolve the issue, raise a bug report with Sun.

  • Java Webstart application problem with TLS certificate revocation checks (Java 1.7.0_76)

    We have a problem with our Java Web Start Application regarding the TLS certificate revocation check:
    The application is running on a server within a wide area network which is separated from the internet.
    The application users have access to the WAN, and also access to the internet over some corporate proxy/firewall.
    The user has to enter, for example "https://my-site.de/myapp/ma.jnlp" within a webbrowser or could also call  "javaws https://my-site.de/myapp/ma.jnlp" to start the application client.
    The webserver has a certificate from a trusted certificate authority. This certificate seems to be ok, the browser is even configured to perform OCSP status check.
    The application files are signed with a certificate from another trusted certificate authority. This certificate seems also to be ok. Regarding this certificate there
    are no problems with certificate revocation checks.
    The problem is, while starting the application client there is a message box which tell us something like "the connection to this website ist not trustworthy",
    "Website: https://my-site.de:80", and something about an invalid certificate, meaning the webserver certificate.
    Obviously the jvm runtime, which is executed on the users workstation, tries to perform a revocation check for the webservers certificate, but this fails because
    it cannot fetch the certificate under https://my-site.de:80.
    The application will execute without further problems after that message but the users are very concerned about the "invalid" certificate, so here are my questions:
    - Why is the application trying to get the webserver certificate over Port 80. Our application developers told me, there is no corresponding statement. Calling this address
      has to fail while "https://my-site.de:443" or "https://my-site.de" would not have a problem.
    - Is there a way to make the application go on without performing a tls revocation check? I mean, by adjusting the application sourcecode and not by configuring the users Java Control Panel.
      While disabling the TLS Certificate Revocation check in the Java Control Panel, the Webstart Application executes without a warning message, but this is not a workable solution for
      our users.
    It would be great if someone can help me with a hint so i can send our developers into the right direction;-)
    Many thanks!

  • Installed Java - Terminal now opens automatically every time I open my computer. I deleted Java 7 application, but now terminal still pops up. Why? How can I get it to stop?

    I installed Java 7. Suddenly, Terminal bounced open every time I logged into my computer after that + the program I needed to run with Java didn't work, so I uninstalled Java 7. I have no Java, but Terminal bounces open - still. It never did before. I need the old version of Java to run my grading program, but I'm afraid to install Java 6 because I don't want anything new to "bounce" in. If I install Java 6 will it get rid of this Terminal application from bouncing in and will the Java 6 work?

    I already looked into that - "open at login" was not checked. Thank you though.

  • Gentoo doesn't run a Java (Flash) application but Ubuntu yes

    Hello everybody.
    I can't find a solution to a Java-Flash-Gentoo related problem.
    I would like to run a Java program, using an [external library|http://djproject.sourceforge.net/ns/] , to realize a Java FlashPlayer. This is the code of the player:
    package testplayer;
    import chrriis.dj.nativeswing.swtimpl.NativeInterface;
    import chrriis.dj.nativeswing.swtimpl.components.JFlashPlayer;
    import java.awt.BorderLayout;
    import java.awt.EventQueue;
    import javax.swing.JFrame;
    import javax.swing.JPanel;
    public class Main implements Runnable {
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            NativeInterface.open();
            EventQueue.invokeLater(new Main());
            NativeInterface.runEventPump();
        public void run() {
            JFlashPlayer player = new JFlashPlayer();
            JPanel panel = new JPanel(new BorderLayout());
            panel.add(player);
            JFrame window = new JFrame("Test");
            window.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.DISPOSE_ON_CLOSE);
            window.add(panel);
            window.setSize(400, 400);
            window.setVisible(true);
            player.load("http://www.youtube.com/v/XyX-KJwUohw");
    }A window should be opened and the youtube video should play as well. Here's what I get on Gentoo Linux.
    [http://i.imgur.com/XyYdk.png]
    It doesn't find the flash plugin actually, even though it is installed and properly working.
    My Gentoo is x86_64 architecture and if I try to run the same application on Ubuntu (x86_64), it works like a charm.
    At the moment my www-plugins/adobe-flash USE flags are the following: 64bit -32bit.
    Why this piece of code runs on Ubuntu and on Gentoo not????
    Could it be something related to some environment variable?
    Thanks a lot!

    I asked to the mantainers yet actually, but they didn't solve me the problem at the moment.
    Perhaps some of you could have an idea of what I am missing on Gentoo.
    What I can tell you, is that I tried to run that application on a fresh Debian installation and I've got the same problem.
    So this happens because of something that is missing. But what?? :(

  • Unable to launch Java Swing application with JSE 5.0

    Hi,
    we have a swing appln that gets downloaded via java webstart - which was working fine with 1.4.x until 5.0 came. I know that JSE 5.0 includes java webstart too - but when I start my application, I get Marshal error & filenotfound Exception. What we are doing in the application is to download some XML files that are to be used by the program. But the program is unable to find the files.
    If I manually install 1.4.x & Web Start separately, everything works fine.....
    Is there any change needed in the JNLP file?
    TIA

    Hi there,
    Here's the issue:
    I have modified our web page that helps the user download the swing appln - as per the guidelines given in the web site:
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/guide/javaws/developersguide/launch.html
    Let's say that I already have JRE 1.4x & JWS installed on my m/c. When I visit our web page that downloads / starts the client application, I get an error:
    Java Web Start : Invalid Argument Error.
    General
    An error occurred while launching/running the application.
    Category: Invalid Argument error

    If I uninstall JRE 1.4+ & etal - JRE 5.0 gets downloaded and everything works smooth. But I need to take care of backward compatibility... Hence this post....
    BTW, the JNLP file looks like:

  • Java WebStart and Mac OS X 10.8

    I'm a bit afraid that Java WebStart applications are encountering a problem with the latest OS X release because of the Gatekeeper settings preventing Java WebStart applications from running. Is it really true that if an application is not signed with an apple developer id that it will no longer be allowed to start unless changes are made to the Gatekeeper settings?
    https://blogs.oracle.com/talkingjavadeployment/entry/java_applications_and_gatekeeper
    http://docs.oracle.com/javase/7/docs/technotes/guides/jweb/mac-faq.html#gatekeeper
    If this is the case then of course my question would be how can I additionally sign my webstart application built with maven on windows with a free apple developer id?

    doing a test app where you replace the .png with a .jpg might be a good idea. If you do not have a "test app", you probably should for JWS. It does not have to do much.

  • Java webstart on Mac OS9.2

    Hi I have a java webstart application that uploads files to my website, I now have 2 people that want to upload to my site that are running mac OS9.2.
    They both seem to be having the same problem as that the java application just does not start. They both have Mac OS runtime for Java 2.2.5 installed
    Can someone give me some clues as to what may be going wrong and where to look on a mac as I have never owned one and have no idea.
    Thanks
    Dean

    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macos/377&vid=381
    From that site:
    Mac OS Runtime for Java (MRJ) is Apple's implementation of the Java Virtual Machine (JVM), based on Sun Microsystems' Java 1.1.8 specificationAlso from that site, there is a version 2.2.6 (fixes some Oracle bug)
    If you need anything other than 1.1.8, your only option is to ditch 9.2 (which is 5+ years old at this stage!) and get OS X

  • SSO between a Java EE application (Running on CE) and r/3 backend

    Hi All,
    Over the past few days I have been trying to implement a SSO mechanism between NW CE Java Apps and R/3 backend without any success. I have been trying to use SAP logon tickets for implementing SSO.
    Below is what I need:
    I have a Java EE application which draws data from R/3 backend and does some processing before showing data to the users. As of now the only way the Java App on CE authenticates to r/3 backend is by passing the userid and pwds explicitly. See sample authentication code below:
    BindingProvider bp = (BindingProvider) myService;
    Map<String,Object> context = bp.getRequestContext();
    context.put(BindingProvider.USERNAME_PROPERTY, userID);
    context.put(BindingProvider.PASSWORD_PROPERTY, userPwd);
    Now this is not the way we want to implement it. What we need is when the user authenticates to CE ( using CE's UME) CE issues a SAP logon ticket to the user. This ticket should be used to subsequently login to other system without having to pass the credentials. We have configured the CE and Backend to use SAP logon tickets as per SAP help.
    What I am not able to figure out is: How to authenticate to SAP r/3 service from the java APP using SAP logon tickets. I couldnt find any sample Java  code on SAP help to do this. (For example the above sample code authenticates the user by explicitly passing userid and pwd, I need something similar to pass a token to the backend)
    Any help/pointers on this would be great.
    Thanks,
    Dhananjay

    Hi,
    Have you imported the java certificate into R/3 backend system ? if so.
    Then just go to backend system and check on sm50 for each applicaion instance of any error eg.
    SM50-> Display files (ICON) as DB symbol with spect.(cntrlshiftF8)
    You will get logon ticket details.
    with thanks,
