I ordered a WRT54G-TM and got a WRTU54G-TM: What Have I Gotten Myself Into?

I noticed this weekend that T-Mobile was clearing out their variant of the WRT54GS for $20, so I ordered one since I happened to need to replace my aging BEFSR41 (I already have another WRT54G serving as my WAP). I just got notification that T-Mobile ran out of the unit I ordered were out and were giving me a free "upgrade" to the WRTU54G-TM. Any thoughts? I don't have T-Mobile service, I ordered the original router merely because it was on clearance and was suppose to work fine with or without T-Mobile, so now I'm wondering...
How does this unit compare to the more traditional WRT54G-TM? I get the sense that if I'm not planning on using VoIP it really isn't as good, but overall I am just confused.

My problems with the WRTU54G-TM have settled down to having some aspect of phone service simply stop working perhaps once every 6 weeks, at which point a reboot of the router "fixes" the problem. I'd like to eliminate that last issue, and I'm hoping there will be a new firmware release soon (January I hope?) that finally gets this resolved. For the most part, though, I'm finding this to be OK.
As an alternative, I'd considering trying T-Mobile's new VoIP adapter that's designed to work with whatever router you *already* have. If I had that, I'd install something like DD-WRT on a WRT54GL model (have to find one with a lot of memory -- most of the newer models have less memory and can only take a reduced version of DD-WRT), or "Tomato" -- there are a couple of alternative 3rd party software packages that turn the WRT54 series routers into very capable, powerful and feature rich devices with far more control than the Linksys firmware currently provides for us.
In the meantime, however, the WRT54GU-TM is pretty stable for me except for the periodic reboot requirement -- good enough so that I can live with it until the next firmware release (assuming it's soon!).

    Perhaps try downloading and saving a copy of the installer to a different PC. (If you're on a 32-bit Windows system, try to download on a different 32-bit Windows system.) Copy the iTunesSetup.exe installer to an external hard-drive, or a large-enough thumb drive or burn it to a CD-R. Carry the installer back to your PC, copy the installer to your hard drive. (Don't run the install from the ExHD, thumb or CD-R.) Start the install by doubleclicking the iTunesSetup.exe file.

    Pre-orders download on their own if automatic downloads are enabled.  However, sometimes you need to check for available downloads.  Make sure to check your iTunes library to see if the album is there.  I have experienced an issue a couple weeks ago for a Pre-order album not downloading and stating it was purchased.  I would recommend canceling the Pre-order and download it again as it most likely has not been charged.  This article will walk you though the process.

I opened it to find out it was actually a wireless controller(that also needs batteries which didn't even come included) even though the page i linked clearly has a picture of a wired controller(with different analog placements) and even states that it has a "8' cord". I didn't open it or anything yet, just in case i mess something up. Anything i can do about this or should i just deal?

    I've got mixed feelings on wireless controllers that require disposable batteries myself, so I can imagine why you'd be concerned. There are two ways you can approach this though. First, if you'd prefer the wired version you originally ordered, we can arrange a return + exchange. Second, if you find yourself liking the wireless version, you can keep it with our compliments -- our mistake is your gain. Just keep in mind that you may encounter difficulties obtaining warranty support if you opt to go the second route! Most manufacturers require purchase details to process warranty claims, so you may be out of luck if your receipt/order info doesn't match the model you received.

  • Placed a new order for one price and got billed for another

    My 2 yr contract with Verizon is up in early September. I wanted to give Verizon a chance at retaining me, so I called up and spoke with a rep. There was a little back and forth until I accepted the final price she offered me. I was paying $84.99 a month plus taxes ($8.21)  which brought it to $93.20. The new price was going to be $94.99 plus tax which I assumed  whould bring it to $103 to $104. I get an estimate email which STARTS at $104.99 plus $18.66 in taxes for a total of $123.65. Twenty dollars more than what I should be paying. I call right back (within an hour) and they could not get the agent back I spoke to that made the deal. Another agent could not get me the price I was promised, but sent an email to the agent who made the deal to have her call me today. The call never came. Verizon... your customer service is the worst of ANY company I have ever dealt with. I called them back after it was apparent that that call would never arrive  and the next agent offered me a package with LESS in order to get the price back to where it was already promised.. I CANCELLED the order.  Verizon you tried to blame my browser for my being unable to pay my bill online awhile back (it was not the problem...you were) and now this. I gave you another chance and you tripped over your tried and true bad customer service once again. Next month I will be switching to Time Warner...where they actually have an office in this city where I can go and speak to somebody in person.

    It leaves a bad taste in your mouth.  I had this on line agent promise to send me a replacement router at no extra cost, the order was never put through....come to find out that Verizon doesn't give out free routers.  So the agent lied and meanwhile, put in all of these other upgrades that I never requested, that I had to ask another agent over the phone to get rid of!  And when I tried telling this to customer service, these other agents acted like they knew nothing and went on saying that nothing about that was documented in their notes.  I told them that somebody needs to review the transcript from the on line conversation because it's all right there!  You have a right to know what you are going to be paying too.  I've been fine with understanding their estimated bills upon renewing my contract but it can be confusing.  It's very true that they don't follow through with their communication toward customers and they need to explaing things better.  They need to stop with these constant apologies, rerouting your call all over the place, and do their jobs.  I find that a lot of these reps have an attitude. The sad thing too is that this is only a step above Amazon.  Amazon has awful customer service and sells defective merchandise. If you think you can do better with Time Warner, then go for it.  I don't have that option here.  But it's your time and money and it's a service that you're paying for.

    Regarding the errors you have,
    1) RFC destination SAPSLDAPI does not exist
    2) Connection to SLD does not work
    3) RFC destination LCRSAPRFC does not exist
    We should focus on the first error which indicates a configuration problem with the RFC destination SAPSLDAPI. This is the cause of thesecond error. The third error you have reported is only  relevant if you are running XI.
    I would recommend that you follow the Post Installation Guide for the SLD to configure it properly. Once we have the SLD running and connecting the the other systems we can then look at any other issues.

    Hi. Try this: From the iTunes Store front page, scroll to the bottom of the page. In the bottom left corner there should be a flag, in this case the French flag, click it and you 'll be presented with a screen to select the correct country.

    - Took the CCNA1-4 via college course about 3 years ago, haven't used the knowlege since
    - most of my experience in the real world has been non-managed networks, but taking care of Windows Terminal Servers.
    - basically I think I need to re-educate myself
    Current Network:
    Windows Domain
    45 workstations
    4 buildings
    Breakdown
    Head Office:
    - Main Distribution point
    - WAN: Cisco Router and DSL modem owned by provider
    - Firewall: WatchGuard Firewall (/w 5 VPN connections)
    - 1 x 48 port Managed Switch (acting as simple switch)
    - Windows SBS 2003 server with Exchange, SQL, and using VPN here as well
    - We have about 6 other switches that are not managed in the build
    - 1 cable run through building. At the end of this building is a fiber connection to the next building
    - 15 workstations
    BUilding 2:
    - Fiber connection from Head Office
    - 1 single CAT 5e from Fiber switch to Unmanaged Switch (Switch 1)
    - 1 single CAT 5e from unamanaged switch to half-way point of building where we have another unmanaged switch (Switch 2)
    - 1 single CAT 5e from from Switch 1 to another small building (building 4) with a small unmanaged switch and 2 workstations
    - 1 single CAT 5e from Switch 2 - to end of building, underground to building 3
    - 1 Workstation attached to Switch 2
    Building 3:
    1 x 24 port Managed Switch with connection from Building 2 (this switch being used as a normal switch)

    Working with new equipment:
    - we upgraded DSL (cheaper) to a 5 Static IP package, this is a seperate circuit for now - so I can configure everything and
    not disrupt current services.
    - using test PC and connection on this DSL to make sure most everything is working.
    - Purchased 871w to replace their router and to replace our Firewall which has a faulty nic and is limited in functionality.
    - 6 months from now, adding Fortigate 100A Appliance
    - over next 2 years - all switches will be managed
    First question: Anyone have a real good resource on how inside local, inside global, outside local, outside global works for ACL's? Isn't there something similar for NAT/PAT?
    Second Question: Just looking for some best practice solutions. Should I bother with VLAN's at this time, just leave everything on VLAN since
    there can be no real seperation throughout the company. Suggestions?
    Outside Services required:
    - Webmail - using OWA:
    - host header: webmail.companyname.com
    - can the router block all requests to this that are made via port 80 and allow the HTTPS ones through?
    - since i have 5 statics, using NAT can I have one of the external IP's used for webmail... this can be done using static NAT and firewall rules?
    - Exchange Server forwards all SMTP requests to ISP mail server.
    - No RDP directly to network resources without vpn activity - taken care of implicet deny.
    - Will it be possible to use my other 4 static IP's, say I create a DNS entry for ftp.companyname.com. I assume a static entry in NAT will take care of sending all requests to another network box.
    VPN:
    Will require VPN connections, there seems to be a ton of different ones. What is the easiest to create for a few home systems
    that the VPN client can be installed and configured? Can this be managed with a push policy, can different user accounts be
    created with different policies:
    i.e: * Steve logs in via VPN, can RDP to a desktop to access server resources but I don't want him to be able to connect to \\serverip\share
    * Bob is a user, bob currently vpn's and obtains an IP 10.0.0.249, bob shares a printer that we use to print to. I don't want bob to be able to access any other resources on our network, but users can print to Bob's remote printer.
    I'm over thinking all this, and getting confused - a nice simple step approach required - I feel like I'm drowning -lol

    I would be concerned too if my iPhone was not powering on.  I found an article with steps you can take when you encounter an issue like this.  I recommend following the steps below:
    Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
    Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
    Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
    Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
    After at least 30 minutes, if:
    The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
    The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
    Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
    If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
    If the display turns on, go to step 4.
    If the display remains black, go to next step.

  • Clicked "update " for flashplayer and got a virus

    I got my automatic update from Adobe for flashplayer and clicked it and got a virus. I have Mcafee virus protection and it didn't help catch it. McAfee wants $89.99 to remove it and I am not very happy. I deleted adobe flashplayer from my computer and tried to reinstall but now Mcafee won't let it through and sends a message saying that flashplayer has a virus / tojan. Really ? no kidding.  My cable company told me to call another number and they want $149 to get rid of the virus. What do I do ? I don't plan on paying anybody to get rid of this virus.  I use windows vista and tried installing flashplayer update for flashplayer 11.

    Adobe is not, and never has been, in the business, or practice of distributing viruses.
    Wherever you got the "update" from, it was not a legitimate Adobe Flash installer, and it didn't come from this site or this company.
    While it's regrettable that your system is now infected, you must understand that there are literally thousands of "fake" updates out there, some with (illegally used) Adobe logos. Adonbe can't keep up with or remove them all before more pop up to take their place.

    If your McAfee shows either of these to contain a virus, it's a "false positive".
