According to that, you don't seem to have added in an UpperFilters entry for GEARAspiWDM.
Did you not do that (as per the instructions in the document on what to do if the UpperFilters entry is missing)?
Or did you revert the key after attempting a filter edit and still getting the error message?

Installed new hard drive and windows 7 at the same time. Left old hard drives in computer, installed firefox however I have no idea in which file the old bookmarks are located. I still have the old files for firefox in the old drives.

Your "Firefox personal data", like bookmarks, are stored in your Profile folder in Firefox. See this support article about how to recover that data from that old hard drive and transfer it your your new Profile.

  • Installed new DVD drive, now iBook will not charge

    Hi guys,
I'm a long-time Mac user, and this is the first time I've had any problems so I'm new to this board. I had a bit of a look around, both on this forum and the FAQs, and this appears to be a unique problem.
Basically, for a while my iBook CD drive was spitting out CDs, as per a common problem which I was not able to resolve. Eventually the tray broke and it would not click back into place, and so I was left with an iBook with a CD tray constantly popped out.
I ordered a new DVD drive/burner that claimed it would fit an iBook, and when it arrived I pulled apart my laptop and installed it. Everything appeared to be in order, until I tried to plug in the AC adaptor.
The orange light goes on for about 10-15 seconds, then slowly fades away to nothing. If I unplug and plug it back in straight away, I get no light and no charge. If I wait 15 minutes, the orange light goes back on but once again fades after a short period of time.
My first thought is that perhaps the DVD drive is incompatible/drawing too much power, but I can't figure out how this would affect the charger, and why the problem would persist whether the power is on or off.
Has anyone encountered a problem like this? I don't hold much hope that this will be fixed without expensive surgery, but I'd like to try
    iBook G3, PowerPC G5, iPod   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Hi Ronda, thanks for the response. I've pulled it apart a couple of times and have put it back together via the instructions I downloaded on the internet both times, and have had the same problem. To be honest, I can't answer that! I'll have to pull it apart this afternoon again to check.

  • Just installed new hard drive in mac book pro 15", when trying to boot OSX from original disk I still get a folder with a question mark in it. How can I reinstall the OS?

Can't seem to get my mac book to boot from the CD after installing new hard drive.
I keep holding down "c" while restarting the machine with the disk in but it just keeps ejecting the disk and giving me a folder with a question mark.

If your on 10.5 with a Intel Mac, I think Apple has jinxed the firmware so you can't boot from the 10.5 disk anymore.
So far several people, myself included, can't boot from a 10.5 OS X disk on a Intel Mac.
Your going to have to buy a 10.6.3 Snow Leopard retail disk, it's wayyy better than 10.5 anyway, faster and most stable even better than Lion. Have to buy iLife though as it doesn't come on the 10.6.3 retail disks, only free with grey disks.

  • Tried to connect my ipod to TV through USB. Can play music but the TV cant detect video files

Hi. I have an ipod nano 4th generation. I am obsessed with Doctor Who but unfortunately I do not have BBc America. I watch from itunes on my PC. I would like to sync the shows on the ipod and watch on TV. I am aware i can purchase apple's A/V cable, but i have found that my TV also has a USB port. I plugged in my ipod and four menus came up, "video" "pictures" "music" and "settings". I can play music but the Tv wont find the video files on the ipod.
    Thanks!!!!

iTunes Match on your computer can give you the same higher quality files.
Run iTunes on your computer.  Show your music library by Song in list view.  Add the columns for Bit Rate, Kind, and iCloud Status to the list view.
Any song that is shown as Matched for iCloud Status, that is NOT already 256 kbps (or higher) for Bit Rate can be downloaded from iCloud at 256 kbps AAC.  For example, if you have an old album from a music CD that you ripped years ago at 128 kbps MP3, and it is "matched" by iTunes Match, you can replace the lower quality files you have now with 256 kbps Match AAC audio file (which is shown for Kind).
To do so, select the song, or a set of songs, on the library list.  Press Delete.  Confirm you want to delete the song (but do NOT check the box to delete song from iCloud) and choose to move song file to the Trash.  The songs remain on your iTunes library list, with a "cloud" download button next to the song name.
Click that button to download the song from iCloud.  Because the song is Matched, you get the replacement as a 256 kbps AAC audio file, instead of the original 128 kbps MP3 file (or whatever lower quality format it was before).
You can go through your iTunes music library, and replace lower quality Matched songs with higher quality versions, thanks to iTunes Match.

  • Unable to access 2nd HD after installing new DVD drive...stumped

OK have a Mac Pro late 2009, superdrive was acting funny, errors burning DVD's,  so I installed a Pioneer DVD I got from Macsales. As soon as I did that, I started getting a grey bar on boot up. Come to find out, the Western DIgital 3tb drive I installed (WD30EXEZ) that I partiioned with Disk Utilities for a Working drive for bootcamp was unreadable, from Lion with Paragon NTFS.. I have two of them, the 1st I set up with a couple OS X partitions and as HFS working disk.Seems to be working fine, I think? My bootcamp (Winblows 7) is on the 640 WD SSD that came with the Mac. Disk Utilities comes up with an error when I verify the NTFS partition but not the drive itself but I a unable to repair it, Winblows 7 sees the drive but can't access it.So I am trying to figure out what went wrong and how to repair the file system. My Mac Pro was purchased Mar 2010 and was nto the primary box, I opted to use my Dell before I gave it to my son.
    On to the next problem
I pulled the drive out and hooked it to my sons  (Dell) and running testdisk on it via Hirens Boot CD.
Now when I boot the Mac I get the grey bar on the boot which tells me something else is wrong...
any and all help is requested...
    thanks

    hard to fully understand
    Where is Windows 7?
Do you have Paragon latest? never had trouble.
3TB drives with GPT and used as data for Windows? The term "boot camp" means little or too many different things. Drivers, Windows on Mac, but not much else.
I would never repair NTFS with Disk Utility unless Paragon  endorses such action.
3TB Greens do seem to give a number of Mac Pro owners grief. Shouldn't but then who knows except WD and Apple may or may not be talking and sharing.
I'd format the drive in Windows, or format the NTFS part. I do use GPT and NTFS for Windows data drives w/ no problem.
WD makes a 640GB SSD? news to me. Can't be. Would check Saturday though. And Apple over-states size/capacity especially when it comes to SSDs. So Apple OEM'd SSD with WDC lable, right? or wrong?
SSDs are an issue unto themselves lately with SATA3 models / firimware.
    Boot from Windows.
Pull drives and leave just the one(s) for Windows; or, the one(s) used by OS X - would be a start.
I would only use WD Lifeguard on the drive... whether on your Mac or the Dell.
That is the best this late.

  • ITunes 9.2 wont install fully, DVD driver not Windows compatible?

I have tried to install the 9.2 version of iTunes several times but everytime it ends up with an incomplete installment. I keep getting an error message telling me the digital signature for the CD/DVD driver isn't designed for Windows and wont install. The rest installs fine but when I open iTunes I get told the software hasn't installed properly and wont work if I want to import or burn DVDs.
I'm not sure if this is related to the installation problems but when I try and activate my iPhone (4g) the iTunes doesn't recognize the phone. It doesn't show up at all.
Anyone have any idea what's going on?

I'm not sure if this is related to the installation problems but when I try and activate my iPhone (4g) the iTunes doesn't recognize the phone. It doesn't show up at all.
It could be related. A snarl-up in device filters in the registry can cause issues with both optical drives and USB connections (for example).
My suspicion here is that you've got damaged GEAR drivers for iTunes, and they are interfering with your attempts to install iTunes.
Perhaps try a manual uninstall of ther GEAR drivers (quit iTunes first):
    http://www.gearsoftware.com/wiki/index.php?title=DRIVERS:Windows_-_Updating%2C_removing%2C_64_bit_versions%2Cetc
... and then try reinstalling iTunes. Does the reinstall go through any better?

  • Installing new hard drive with Windows XP on T40

My 40GB IDE hard drive on my T40 is dying.  PC Doctor reports failures.  I reformatted and reloaded from factory defaults with pre-loaded software, especially including Win XP.  Even upon reformat, Windows discovered (and marked) many unrecoverable bad sectors.
So I decided to buy a 120 GB IDE drive (same mfr Hitachi with same drive telemetry i.e. cylinders, heads as my dying drive.
I also bought a USB to IDE cable - works well - have both IDE drives active.
I used a piece of software called BounceBack Ultimate by CMS which is supposed to copy the exact image, including partitions, boot sectors, system software, etc. from one drive to another.
I went to Windows Explorer, made sure I was able to view hidden and system files, and it looked like it worked - all files and folders that are on the old drive are on the new one.
I shut down the system, put the new drive in the internal bay, but I cannot get boot - just a flashing underscore of a cursor in the upper left corner of the screen after some drive activity.
So, I remember the good old DOS days when I could reformat with the /S option to make the disk I was formatting bootable with the OS version I was booted under.
There HAS to be an easy way to do this!  I do not have any OEM version of Win XP since this is preloaded on the hard drive that is failing.
I know I have to be missing something easy.  Seems like I should be able to format the new IDE drive via USB and transfer the OS while my old drive is still limping along.
    Help.  Thanks!

BounceBack Tech Support gave me a different version of their image copying software and the new drive booted.

I have tried this twice to no avail.... any answers ?   Thank You

    Hello Debbie,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with iTunes.  It sounds like you have tried reinstalling iTunes twice, but you may need to reinstall Microsoft's .NET Framework:
    Resolution
This issue may be caused by a bad installation of a version of Microsoft's .NET Framework. It's important to note that versions 2.0, 3.5, and 4.0 can all exist side-by-side. Click the arrow next to your OS to reveal links to the versions of Microsoft's .NET Framework that are applicable to your OS; you will need to download and install ALL of these.  These links will take you to a download page.  Click the download button on this page and click Save in the subsequent window to save the installer to your Downloads folder.
    Windows XP:
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP 1Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=0a391abd-25c1-4fc0-9 19f-b21f31ab88b7Windows Vista:
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP 1
    Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0
Note:  Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 is already installed as part of Windows Vista.  You can not modify the installation of this version of the .NET Framework in Windows Vista.
    Windows 7:
    Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0
Note:  Microsoft .NET Framework versions 2.0 and 3.5 are already installed as part of Windows 7.  You can not modify the installations of these versions of the .NET Framework in Windows 7.
To resolve this issue, run these installers one at a time and follow the instructions on screen to install each applicable version of the .NET Framework.  If this version of the .NET Framework is already installed, you may see a screen similar to the one shown below.
If you see this screen, select Repair and then click Next to repair the installation of the .NET Framework.

  • Portege 3490, install new hard drive with windows xp ready loaded?

My hard drive failed recently on my portege 3490. I bought a replacement seagate 20gb hard drive. I installed Windows XP pro by connecting the drive (via adaptor) to my desktop and running the setup cd.
I thought I could then just fit the drive back into the Portege and be good to go. However when I turn on the system straight away asks me to insert system disk.
I have no floppy drive and my only cd is a usb drive and I cannot use this to boot.
Has anyone got any ideas how I can get this working?
I plugged the same drive into my other notebook (non Toshiba) and it boos straight away. Thanks for your help

    Hi
I have no real solution for you except that I can confirm that the ay you installed Windows and then moved the HDD is generally not a good idea.
In your case I think what is the primare problem is that the BIOS'es in the 2 different PC's look at the HDD in different ways. That means that even though both systems might say that it is a 20GB HDD they read it differently and therefore the 3490 gets only 'strange' data from the disk.
Even if it had been able to read the contents still it is not a good idea to do the installation this way because if the chipsets differ too much then Windows will not be able to boot due to wrong drivers.
    My suggestion is to
In the 3490 format the HDD with FAT32.
Once again attach the 20GB to the other system.
Copy the contents of the i386 folder of the Windows media to the HDD.
Put the HDD back in the 3490.
Boot up on a DOS/Win9X diskette and enter the I386 directory. Start the installation from there.
A little bit of fiddling but should give you no problem with boot up.
    Good luck
    Tom

  • Installing new dvd drive in Mac Pro 3,1

I've had just about enough of this old optiarc dvd burner. I've tried to burn 3 verbatim SL dvd-R last night, and I got the message about couldn't calibrate laser power for this device. I have tried to burn at 2x, 4x, 6x, 8x with no success. I used to be able to burn discs sucessfully, but not anymore. I know this is an ATAPI drive aka P-ATA, and drives of this kind aren't exactly easy to find. I was told that there is a S-Ata port or two in my Mac pro, but that it's a real pain in the tush to get at and connect a cable to.. So, any help welcomed
OS 10.6.8, 6 gigs ram, Nvidia 8800 GT video card, if that helps
    thanks
    John B

couldn't calibrate laser power for this device.
That message is code for, "you are using the wrong discs for this drive". There appear to be several series that use different speeds, and they are NOT compatible. I expect you are using discs that are too "modern" for your older burner, such as 8x discs in a 2.5x burner.
That error message is unbelievably un-helpful and obscure.

    help

When I use find file http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/30073/find-file (which does tend to find files that "Finder" can't), it's not coming up with any other itunes library files that have been modified in the past week, which I know it would have been - unfortunately, I don't have a very recent backup of the hard drive.  It would be a few months old so it wouldn't have the complete library on it....any ideas?  I'm wondering if restarting the computer might help but have been afraid to do so in case it would make it harder to recover anything...I was looking at this thread https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4211589?start=0&tstart=0 in the hopes that it might have a helpful suggestion but it's definitely a different scenario.
