I restored my iphone from a backup that is about one month old (because all my contacts had disappeared). Is it possible to retrieve the text messages that occurred after that back up. They disappeared after the restore.

I don't know if I'm on the same page as you.
But if you backed up the phone with those contacts pictures notes etc, you should get them back.
After restoring your phone, use the back up that done when you had those contacts messages etc??

They stopped making that model four years ago. There is no way it is two months old. Trying connecting it to a computer with iTuens via a USB cable to see if you can re-install the firmware.

Here's the scenario. I've been backing up my iPhone 5 on iTunes so there's a backup file there but that iPhone is damaged and might not be recoverable. If I get a replacement phone, can I still use that backup file to restore the new phone despite the fact that it'll be a different serial number etc. than the phone the backup is based on? The iPhone's backup is not a full mirror backup.
The backup does not include any iTunes content - no music, tones, podcasts, movies, tv shows, audio & print books, and 3rd party apps. The backup does not include any photos that were transferred from your computer.

The second Earphone jack will not work. My DV6000 is only one month old.

One of the jacks is for audio in and the other is for audio out. Some select versions have an S/PD/F jack. Chances are the reason you are getting static is that if you plug an earphone into a microphone jack it will attempt to behave as a microphone. It will not operate properly.
So..a recap. There is only one earphone jack

I have this exact same issue. Replaced my iPhone 4s with the new iPhone 5s, setting up my new iPhone 5s to restore from iCloud. This completed and now I am unable to delete my old iPhone 4s iCloud backup (consuming 15.1 GB of my 20GB allocation). How can I delete it, so that I get my 15 GB back? Contacts are not part of the backup. They are seperate and either you need to sync them with an email program such as outlook or use icloud mail,contacts, and calendars on the phone. Unless you did that then the contacts are gone.

I thinks , I pressed restore, and then it restored everything from the previous backup. Unfortunately the most recent photos and videos were not included so I reckon they are lost forever...

Can I restore OSX to a disk, from a backup that's on the same disk?

I have a Powermac G5 Quad, that has two internal drives. (a 250gb system drive, and a 500gb spare).
Both drives are now out of space. I want to purchase a 1TB drive to replace the 250 system drive.
Tell me if this plan makes any sense:
1. Remove the 500gb spare drive.
2. Install the 1 TB drive, format, & use it as the Time Machine backup disk for the system drive.
3. Once the backup is complete, Remove the 250gb system drive.
4. Boot to the 10.5 Install DVD, and select "restore from backup"
5. Use the Backup on the 1 TB Drive, to install the OS on the same disk.
It's step # 5 that I'm not sure will work. Can I install an OS to a disk, from a backup that's on the same disk?

Sorry it took me so long. I had a baby. Anyway, here's how it went down:
I attempted to use the disk utility to "Clone" the original 250gb system disk to the new 1tb Hard drive.
It did not work. Tried booting to the Leopard install disk, and doing it from there, no dice.
So, I went ahead and created 2 partitions on the new 1TB disk. One I called "Time Machine" and it was 300 gigs. The other I called "New System Disk".
I booted to the "Old" System disk, and set up Time Machine to back-up to the "Time Machine" partition. It took 5 hours to back up 250 gigs, but it worked.
I then booted to the 10.5 Install DVD. one of the utilities you can use is "Install from Time Machine Backup" This worked. Took about 5 hours to copy everything to the new "New System Disk".
When that was done, I removed the old system disk. It booted to the new system disk without any trouble.
I was now stuck with a "Time Machine" partition that I did not want. It was EXTRAORDINARILY EASY to delete that partition, then re-size the other one so it took up the entire 1 Terabyte of available space.
So, the answer to the question is: Yes, you can use Time Machine to restore to the same disk, provided that the disk is using two partitions.

The only way to restore an iCloud backup is to start by erasing the phone. Go to Settings>General>Reset, tap Erase All Conent and Settings, go through the setup screens on the phone and when given the option, choose Restore from iCloud Backup.
