I should have never upgraded to iLife 06!

I am very unhappy with what has happened since I upgraded to iLife '06. All of our old DVD projects, which we wanted to give away as presents to some other people, are totally borked!
1) One project for our Grandfather's funeral I have can no longer find the iPhoto pictures that we had. The path has completely changed to the photos, and I have no way of figuring out if the IMG_0005.jpg picture I need is actually the right one (because there are multiple IMG_0005.jpg's for different rolls and years).
2) Another project we have for a friend's wedding will no longer even open! I just click it to open the project, and returns me back to the Open Exisiting Project dialog.
I am thoroughly disgusted with what has happened. Anyone know any solution for this? If this is the future from Apple, I am done.

You have an indexing problem with iPhoto that has been discussed here several times. (After an iLife upgrade, I always open the iApps in the iPhoto, iMovie and then iDVD sequence.)
I understand your frustration with the upgrade, but your title isn't likely to attract the kind of attention you need - you need to be more specific, like iPhoto images can't be found - or something like that. "Rants' rarly get attention.
I suggest you go to the iPhoto forum and ask for help. Old Toad will be able to help you (you might even do a search on this forum for Old Toad).

Can't open DMG files...should have never upgraded my OS to mountain lion

Upgraded to OSX 10.8.2 and now I can't run any downloaded dmg files. Says "the Following disk images couldn't be opened". and then say's there "isn't enough disk space" I'm pretty sure it has something to do with apps that are not approved by the app store. How can I turn it off?
I posted this question before and thought the problem has been solved nbut i'm still having this problem.

How much disk space do you have? When you "Get Info" on a .dmg file, is it set to open with "DiskImageMounter.app"? Should have nothing to do with your Security settings just to mount a disk image.

HT201272 After my upgrade to ios6 I lost all my purchased books. I have tried to retrieve without luck. I have followed ever tip including the one above. I do not have a purchased books line. I need help. I should have never upgraded.

I cannot locate my purchased books after upgrade. I have tried every forum response with no luck. I go to itunes and the want me to pay for the books again.

The ibooks were bought via the same account as you are currently logged in with and they were bought whilst you were in the same country ? And they don't show on either the Purchased tab in the iBooks app nor the Purchased link on your computer's iTunes, and they aren't in the Books part of your library ? You could also check to see if they are hidden : hiding and unhiding .

I am not really clear on the intention of your question. If you are going to get the latest version you are going to purchase it. When you go to purchase it you should be able to see if there is an option to purchase it as an upgrade from the version you currently have. I cannot find the purchase page to check myself... I can only find the subscription option.

I use a MacBook White from 2009 which I upgraded to Snow Leopard earlier this year. I use iMovie 8.0.6, have never upgraded to iLife '11 (iMovie 9.0).
I've never in these 3 years had a problem exporting videos to YouTube, I have 62 on there and just now have an issue. Every time I try to view a project full screen AND try to export a video iMovie crashes and shuts down fairly quickly (after about 20 seconds when attempting export).
Today I went to the Apple store about this, didn't get much resolution on it. They couldn't determine what was wrong. The attempted fix they were going to suggest I had already done (deleting the plist and restarting iMovie). And that fix didn't help. They checked my hard drive and it was fine.
Has anyone had this same problem? What did you do to fix it (if anything)?
One solution, which is what I'll probably do, is to buy and upgrade to iLife '11 (iMovie 9.0)... but without backing things up as I don't have an external hard drive and can't afford to buy one anytime soon (am unemployed). Where my videos are on YouTube may serve as my "backup" and "hard drive" (you can take videos form online, put them on your computer and into iMovie).
What do you suggest for fixing this? Is there another way to do it without upgrading to iMovie 9.0? What are your expriences with this issue?

Turns out I'm going to have to BUY iLife '11 (from Best Buy) because the download version on Apple's site is for those with Lion only and I have Snow Leopard. This is becoming a major PAIN. Apple shoudl continue to offer its older products online at least (if not in their stores) rather than just dropping them completely.

IPhoto 2 user...should I upgrade to iLIFE?

Hi! All of the sudden I started having problems with my iPhoto. Suddenly all of my photos disappered from all of my albums. It's bizzare since the files are all still there. I'm in the process of trying to recreate the libraries through a method I read on someone else's posting (hold "option" and "shift" while opening up iPhoto); we'll see if it works. I'm wondering though if I should or can upgrade to iLIFE. I've read various things about it and the features on iPhoto in particular look compelling. What would I need to do to upgrade and is it worth it? did you have to recreate all your albums, etc?

Here's my take for what it's worth..... yes, you should upgrade but only when you have the time to do so and certainly not in the middle of a working project. Hold off on the update for a lull in your current workload. I can't overstate the importance of backing up your current work / hard drive prior to updating (especially when dealing with iPhoto and iDvd). Hard drives are relatively cheap compared to the time and effort you place in your work. Good luck and hope the advice is helpful.

I should know this but is iLife included with Lion?

I have a 2008 iMac 24" and upgraded to Lion today, iLife 08 was installed when I received the machine and I never upgraded to iLife 09. After upgrading this morning I was surprised to see that ILife 11 did not appear, was iLife 11 including in the Lion install? Is there something I am missing on upgrading to the newest version of iLife. Thanks.

Back to the install... I installed iLife 08 and it installed correctly. I checked to see what version of the applications I have in the dock on my desktop - I figured it would just import existing data (photos, tunes, etc.) into the newer version and replace it in the dock - +it only did this for iDVD+, of course it wasn't that easy for the others.
I can't find the newer version of iPhoto. My iPhoto in the dock still says version 2. iTunes in my dock is version 7 (7.4.2). iMovie is version 3 (3.0.3). But the new Garageband is there in the dock. And of course, iDVD is the newer version '08.
I am most concerned with iPhoto and making sure all the photos AND their comments import correctly into the newer iPhoto 08. I am nervous about this so I want to make sure I do the process correctly.
I also want to make sure my iTunes information imports correctly to the newer version as well.

If you backed up the iPhoto Library Folder then you got everything - photos, albums, comments etc

The Dock is not important. Look in your Applications Folder for iPhoto 08. That's where it should be. The Dock is just a shortcut to that. What version is in your Apps folder?
To upgrade a Library from v2 to iPhoto 08 all you do is open the Library with the newer version.

Never upgraded from 4.7, should I?

I'm still running OS 10.3.9 and never upgraded from iTunes 4.7, so I'm wondering if I should, given all the problems folks are having with the version 7 updates.
I've purchased only three songs in my life, and don't particularly care about buying movies and TV shows. At some future date, however, I might want to buy another song and I'm currently blocked from doing that at the iTunes Store.
Of real concern: Is my 4.7 iTune Library so seriously different in format from libraries, etc. in higher versions that I risk mucking up things forever if I ever do upgrade?

When QT7 was first released there were a lot of problems reported on the iMovie and iDVD lists from people using OS10.3.9. These problems were far ranging from everything to jerky playback, loss of importing or exporting to cameras, encoding issues, etc. So many people had to try and revert back to QT6 leaving QT7 for the OS 10.4 folks.
Your problem is a bit strange sounding and not one I have run across before. So first thing you will want to try is running basic system maintenance.
My standard list of things to do first for these weird sort of problems, but I also tend to run these before I go to burn an iDVD project just to be safe. Keep in mind this list represents the programs I tend to use. There are several alternate programs that do the same things with some combining the functions of some of the ones below. So everyone has their favorites, but here are mine...
Run MacJanitor (free download) to do all the Unix Cron Maintenance scripts.
Run Disk Utility (Applications -> Utilities) and repair disk permissions on your start up drive (typically your internal drive). Also verify any other drives mounted on the system, especially any external drives that you use for iMovie and iDVD projects.
Run Preferential Treatment (free download) to check for corrupt/damaged application and system preference files.
Run Cache Out X (free download) to clear all system and application caches.
Reboot your Mac (after running Cache Out X you are given the option to restart the machine).

The advanced adjustments in the Highlights & Shadows tool were combined into the "Mid Contrast" slider in Aperture 3.3 and later. If you have any images in your library that were processed in a version of Aperture before 3.3, there will be an Upgrade button in the Highlights & Shadows tool in the upper right, and the controls you asked about under the Advanced section. Clicking the Upgrade button will re-render the photo using the new version of Highlights & Shadows, and the Advanced section will be replaced with the new Mid Contrast slider. With the new version from 3.3 you probably don't need the Advanced slider, but if you want to use the older version you can download it from this page:

PSC 1315 no longer supported for scanning since Mac OS X v10.5 or while using any newer OS, there is no scan software provided by either HP or Apple (Image Capture)
