I think I'm going crazy getting my CSS11501 to work as intended!

I've been posting here before regarding CSS and NAT'ing and how our web servers just log the VIP address of the CSS.
Now it turns out after a talk with our programmers, we can't use NAT at all because the backend servers will deliver services based on source IP addresses.
So here's my configuration: backend servers -> HP Procurve 2650 -> CSS11501
The CSS interface where the servers are connected to have the following configuration:
interface e5
bridge vlan 2
redundancy-phy
phy 100Mbits-FD
And circuit VLAN2 is as follows:
circuit VLAN2
description "LAN"
redundancy
ip address 192.168.1.4 255.255.255.0
I tried yesterday to separate two servers as a test in a vlan so that the CSS would act as a bridge between the servers and our firewall (which acts as a router).
So on the switch, I assign the ports for e5 on the CSS as untagged in the default vlan and tagged in vlan2. I then assigned the server ports for untagged in vlan2 and 'no' for the default vlan.
They can't see each other with this configuration, and setting the e5 interfaces as untagged in vlan2, tagged in vlan1 and the server ports untagged in vlan2, they still can't see each other!
And I really mean they can't see each other, if I clear the arp cache for the servers, the CSS doesn't pick up the MAC addresses again, so it's clear that there's something with the vlan tagging.
I've been working on this for a week and it's just getting more frustrated as I try different things which still doesn't work, what am I doing wrong?
Also there's a potential additional problem which I hope I can get an answer to: The servers has two nic's active. The primary nic has an IP address which is on the same subnet as the CSS WAN interface. If I get the servers and the CSS to talk across the vlans, will this be a problem with bridging, as the CSS finds a host on its LAN segment which has an IP address that belongs to its WAN segment?

Thanks Gilles.
I read the list of advantages and disadvantages.
However the only disadvantage I can see, is that the CSS yelds lower performance since it has to shuffle inbound and outbound traffic on the same interface.
For instance: "When using this configuration, the load balanced servers will see all traffic as being originated from the CSS rathar than the real client source IP address. You do not get a true representation of where your traffic is coming from."
and in the following example:
"The CSS is now configured to load balance to the services, however, there is one problem. When the traffic goes through the CSS to get load balanced, the destination IP address is changed but the source IP address is not changed. When those packets head back to the client, they bypass the CSS through the switch because the servers' default gateways are set to the router IP address and the source IP address of the load balanced request is not on the local subnet.
You must not only NAT the destination address of the packet but the source addresses as well. In order to do this, configure the source groups."
This could be considered a bit misleading; I set the default gateway for the servers to the CSS, and not only do I *not* need to NAT, I *do* see the real client source IP address not the CSS VIP address, and furthermore, the servers have full access to all of our network resources as well as the internet if we chose to.

    Barbera,
Rather than use Movie Maker to burn it to a CD, could you not just add the file to a CD in quicktime format, thus negatining the need to convert it?
There are plenty of web sites that detail how to do this, but this one is the first I found which looked to be the most suitable:
    http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/1543/xphow_to_burn_files_and_folders_to_acd
Hope this helps. let me know if it doesn't.

  • Still going crazy getting memtest to work!

Hi. I know I've asked this before, but I'm desparate.
I’ve got a Athlon 64 FX-51 system with an MSI K8T Master2 motherboard.  It’s running on 2 sticks of pc3200 512mb ram.  I’ve used the latest version of memtest before and it ran fine.  However, I tried running it recently, but it always gets stuck on test 2 between 48-50%.  The timer freezes and everything locks (although the memtest logo still flashes).  I’ve tried the other versions of memtest and I get the same results.  Also whenever I try to manually run other tests (other than test 1), I get the same problem.  I also tried other memory sticks with the same result.
I'm not overclocking or anything like that.
Have you heard of this before?  Is it likely a system problem?  Is there something in the bios I may have screwed up that could cause this?
    Thanks for any help.

No, its actually that MSI STILL HAVENT FIXED THEIR BIOS FOR THE SMM MODE BUG!!! you shouldnt have to disable legacy usb, smm mode shouldnt fandango on core, it only does because MSI have yet to issue a bios correction for AMD erratum #93.

  • Going Crazy! How to force startup using firewire drive on G3

Okay, I think I'm going crazy. I have searched last night and today for my answers and still no solution.
I have an old G3 I'm trying to install Tiger on. I don't have a dvd drive in the G3, so I installed onto a firewire drive from my G4. I booted from the firewire drive and manually copied all the file over to the internal drive on the G3. Some things wouldn't copy. Obviously, this is part of my problem. Unfortunately, I did not run the disk utility, etc before restarting after doing this. Now, I get a kernel panic on a grey screen with frozen beach ball cursor. When I reboot from my Techtool 4 pro disk, I can access the program, but it's all fuzzy grey on the screen. Plus that didn't work. I have tried to reboot from my older OS10.1 install disk. But I can't do anything with it, and it won't install over the newer "incomplete" system. If I restart pushing X or C or Option button, nothing happens. The G3 has two internal drives, each with a system on it. Neither will start up. The firewire drive is hooked up, and I can't reboot from that.
Can anyone tell me the shortcut to reboot from the external firewire drive? What do I push? Or is

G3s cannot boot from FireWire drives:

My Finder is going crazy.  Keep getting a message saying it quit unexpectedly and asking if I want to restore windows, but I can't get it to stop.  buttons don't work.

    Something else you can try.
In Finder hold down the option/alt key while selecting the Go menu item. Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Restart and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer ones.
If you want to make your user library permanently visible, run the below command in Applications/Terminal.
    chflags nohidden ~/Library/
You will need to do that after any updates.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

This freezing reminds me of really old Macs, long ago, in the days of the old-school peripherals like SCSI drives, terminators, scanners and the like. If you had a SCSI conflict, like the wrong device ID's or something, you'd freeze up like that. Back in those days you'd call 800-SOS-APPLE (AAPL?) and they'd run you through disconnecting all your extra hardware - Jaz and Zip drives, CD burners, scanners etc and then eliminate them one by one by adding them incrementally and testing for the freeze/bomb dialog.
But, today we have Firewire and none of those ancient issues (no free lifetime tech support either). My iMac's ports are all full, and I only know which devices are connected when I have to remove something for another device. iSight, scanner, card reader, external hard drive, USB soundsticks, etc. You wouldn't happen to have any SCSI devices hooked up, would you?
Out of curiosity, have you tried a different USB/Firewire port for the hard drive? Or run the hardware test DVD that comes with your computer? This weird freezing seems to suggest a problem with the computer, RAM or network more than a device. Bad devices, in my experience, cause kernel panics, not freezing.

My situation is improving a little.  When I returned home I found that my imac went to sleep during the match process (I would think that the process would keep the imac awake, but I recommend people with large libraries disable energy saving features while Match is working).  When it completed the process the second time I tried, a LOT of the greyed out tracks returned to my iOS devices.  The only ones missing right now are the ones pending upload to the cloud.  I have a few tracks that I've purchased and are on my iMac HDD that are greyed out, but that list is down to 10-15 out of 12,000... so I can work on those when Match is done.
I'm surprised that the iOS devices would restrict you from accessing sync'd content while Match is running - i.e. the content is already on the device.  However, it's error handling that must not currently exist in the service.
My biggest take away right now is the lack of information Apple provided on this service.  I'm using third-party tutorials online instead of a simple "what is Match and how does it work" document from Apple...  Documentation is still a must, especially for new and potentially complicated services like this.  I.E. tell me that you are going to restrict my access to my own content during this process, and that this process may take 2-3 days (still uploading).

For outlook or hotmail emails they use a pop server technology that you can't sync your computer and your iPhone with. You have to unfortunately delete the emails from both devices. It is super frustrating but that is the only way.
    Hope this helps.

I am going crazy changing passwords that do not get recognized by the different services when it is time to use them, until I am asked to change the password again, starting the vicious cycle again: i need to use the password, it does not get recognized three times, then the system asks me to change it again, and again, and I am stuck!! Is there any fix for this "glitch?

The first thing I would suggest is for you to go to the folder containing your catalog, using your system browser. There will be a folder that has the extension .lrdata. Delete that folder, and then try to start Lightroom. If that doesn't work, replace your catalog with your most recent backup.

  • Nokia N81 8gb Screen goes crazy

ok so i buaght my Nokia N81 like in january last year and ive been using it quiet regularly....
Until today... I slid the phones slider to reveal the keys to write a text message, when the screen went crazy with funky colours and such lines and random things on the screen. If i slide it up and down while its like this it changes its effects and stuff as if its something to do with the contacts of the slider and the screen. If i let the screen black out into powersaver it returns normal but if i slide it again to close the phone or open it back up it goes nuts again.
i tried leaving the battery out but no use.
    LOTS OF HELP please ?
    i was thinking a factory reset ??

Hi! I have the same problem as well! And this is the SECOND time this is happening! The first time I took it back to my SP, and they then replaced it with a brand new handset; that was 10 months after using my phone for the first time. Now, 8 months after receiving my brand new handset, I have the same problem again!
What was very strange to me, before it first happened, was that my slider became REALLY tight and difficult to manouevre,  so I slid the screen up and down as it felt like there was something obstructing the slider, and out came a clear piece of sticky plastic film... I took no note of it, until the same thing happened to me about 2 weeks before my phone went wonky again. The funny thing is, my fiancé has the 2gb phone, and he seems to have no trouble at all with his handset, and he's now had his phone for more than a year (that's longer than I've had both of my handset before going crazy), so I'm thinking it must be a problem with the N81 8gb models. Now I need to take the phone back AGAIN, which I'm not very happy about... I don't want to have to take my phone back, or repair it, every 8 to 10 months... It's a waste of my time AND money.
Oh, and another thing... when they replaced my handset, I asked them what the problem was with my phone, and they said that they didn't know, but that they couldn't fix it! SERIOUSLY?! So now how exactly will I get to repair my phone if the Nokia technicians can't even find the problem NOR fix it?! I've basically spent ALL this money on a phone that only works for a few months until it's irrepairably broken... I don't think I'll be using another Nokia after this again...

  • Can't install 7.5, going crazy.

This is very frustrating, I've been at it for a couple of days.
Clicked to automatically upgrade Itunes. Downloaded and seemed to install fine. When I clicked on Itunes, I get an hourglass for about 2 seconds, then it dissapears. Nothing happens. Quicktime opens fine.
I uninstalled, erased files, used windows clean up utitility, reinstalled, nothing changed.
    I did everything here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93698
    No luck.
I found this post, and did everything, and still nothing:
Got it to work after spending almost the entire weekend messing about with install combinations: this is what work for me when my ipod Touch was not recognised due to "required software" not being installed...
    1) uninstall everything (i mean any iTunes or Quicktimes) fully including checking with the windows install cleanup utility
    2)restart your computer
    3) Unpackage the iTunes 7.5 bundle in a folder onto the desktop, using WinRar
    4) Install other components before the iTunes itself...
i ran QuickTime.msi, and then AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi, then AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (i don't think the order matters and im not going to
try other combinations as it's working for me!)
    5) then run iTunes.msi
    6) and after finishing, it started and recognised my iPod touch
hope this actually helps someone, as i've been reading these sites for hours.
    good luck

I'm not sure what to do. At this point I'm just going in circles. I'd like to get access to my music and use my ipod again.
In short, recurring symptoms: Click on itunes, get hourglass, nothing happens.
Oh and I tried installing an older version of Itunes I had.
    Any help/suggestions? I'm going crazy.
    Thanks for any help.

I've been fighting the same battle the past 2 days, but when I followed these numbered directions above I thought it would work. Wrong, it still said "A later version of iTunes is already installed. Installation of this version cannot continue".
One of the things I noted on the iTunes support page is that VBscript must be installed, and I thought I had it since I have the file: (C:\windows\system32\vbscript.dll).
Anyway, I downloaded VBscript 5.7 from the Microsoft web site, ran the installation, rebooted, and tried reinstalling just the iTunes.msi as described in step 5 since I'd already installed the other components. The install worked this time. I was flabbergasted! Trust me on this, I must have spent 10-12 hours trying everything to uninstall old components, clean up files & directories, and remove all possible registry entries manually, and I could not get past the error message saying I already had a newer version. Only after installing VBscript was I able to get iTunes installed and running!
It is extraordinarily frustrating to have to spend so much time and effort to run a simple software install that should have taken 10 minutes. The developers who thought it was a good idea requiring VBscript be installed on the host machine ought to flogged!

  • Macbook Pro literally going crazy

My mac had been working perfectly fine until this past friday.... I went out and came home and it just went crazy.
First thing that is going on:
It's like someone has a mouse and has taken over my computer, if it's not the menu buttons going crazy then it's like someone is constantly tabbing to all the folders on my desktop and when i type it's like someone is holding down the arrow to go back to the beginning.
Second thing that is going on:
I will shut the lid down, but it won't go to sleep, the apple keeps glowing and fading, glowing and fading... the fans keep running and if i leave it for any amount of time like that, it gets extremely hot.
Third thing.... my arrow keeps flickering in and out....
It's just so bizarre... this was a great machine until friday and now it's aggravating the crap out of me.
I've run tests and everything says it's all ok, but it just doesn't make sense.
It's like it has a mind of it's own.
    any help would be great.

I think I've seen similar symptoms on a mbp Santa Rosa 2.2 GHZ with the infamous 8600m GT Card. The owner had brought it back to an Apple Store and they had repaired it under the program related to Article TS2377 (MacBook Pro: Distorted video or no video issues).
