I tried to double-check a link in an email by entering it in a new tab. It ended up being a page I can't get out of now. Help!

The page is for a make-money-at-home outfit, and when I try to close or minimize it, or open another tab, or even to close Firefox, another window in the make-money site pops up giving me no alternative but to click "okay." I don't want to go further down this rat hole. I've dumped Firefox from my computer and tried to reload it again from the Mozilla website, but when I open it, the same page is still there.

If it was a hyperlink and you are now in Safari then double-click the home button and tap the Mail icon to go back into Mail.
If you are still in the Mail app in an attachment then try tapping the attachment and see if you get a 'Done' button appear at the top left - if so then tap that. If that doesn't work then try closing the Mail app completely : from the home screen (i.e. not with the Mail app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.

No Mac viruses are propagated through email.
Be vigilant for suspicious activity as you normally should be, but do not download or install some "anti-virus" utility in an effort to fix a problem that does not exist. That's a well-worn path to certain misery.

Tried 2 hrs now, can't fix it: I want new tabs to open google, not blank page; dwnldng an add-on didn't work, & now config has many CT2504091 files, what next?

Currently, opening a new tab goes to a blank search page with an annoying advertisement, and I want it to open a new tab in google.com.

I then used about:config and tried changing "newtab" and "keyword" but those changes did not work.

I now fear i am making things worse if I keep trying, so I am writing to you.
Alos, I am reluctant to use the "reset" option because it says "will TRY to keep bookmarks," and my wife will NOT be happy if all her banking and other bookmarks disappear upon reset.

You likely have a user.js file in the profile folder, this may sound like jargon now but the steps below shall fix this.

Opening links in a RSS feed using the Open in New Tab/Window command doesn't work in FF4. It worked perfectly in FF 3.6. What seems to be the problem?

I use them mainly to follow news updates from newspaper websites etc. After installing FF4, the opening of links contained in those folders (lists of links) using right-click and selecting the Open in New Tab command stopped working. There is no response whatsoever - as if I didn't click the command.

Well the iPod is supposed to be synced from YOUR iTunes music library, if you used other means to put music on there then the iPod is going to sync to only what's on your itunes music library when you connect it.
You need to put the files into itunes.
Far as your other issues, sounds like the drive is dying.

I can not do anything else because this is stuck with this window/install screen showing. I have tried everything to get back to my regular desktop. I do not want to wipe the drive because I have photos on it that I want to save. So if there is any way to bypass this installer and get back to my regular desktop I would greatly appreciate the help.

You are saying the phone is locked, but then you are saying there is no provider. The two situations cannot peacefully coexist. Contact Apple and they can tell you if the phone is locked and if locked to which provider the phone is locked. People on this board are not Apple employees and cannot get you that information.

There has been a change in where Firefox searches for plugins and the plugins folder in the Firefox program folder is no longer scanned for plugins, so Firefox won't find them anymore if they are installed in the plugins folder instead of the "browser\plugins" folder that Firefox now scans.
You can set the plugins.load_appdir_plugins pref to true on the about:config page to make Firefox scan the "<install>/plugins/" directory for plugins like the WMP plugin (np-mswmp.dll).
You can alternatively move plugins from "<install directory>\plugins\" to "<install directory>\browser\plugins\" (create this folder when missing) to make Firefox find them again.

You don't. You have no choice but to restore at this point. The update did not complete successfully. iOS needs to be restored using iTunes.
