it should be all the MacBook Pro mid 2010 with symptoms, there should get their logic board changed for free, mine mac is 3 month late and i had this problem for over a year, but i first saw this article today
Hey Clintonfrombirmingham
I called Apple technical support in Denmark, but with no positive reply.
She couldn't do anything, and said that They had sent a recall Email about the problem and with their offer to repair the Macbook Pro, but I'd never recieved an Email about the problem. She wasn't in power to make an exception. It can't be true that i paid a lot of money, for a product that can't barely stand on its own feets, Apple didn't tell me that the product I was about to buy, would restart every 5 minute. and now when they know the problem, they wont repair it? it just don't make sense for me. If a car seller discovers that all the brakes in a car he had sold, will crash after some years he will call all the cars back to repair no mater what. i just don't understand how Apple will make good service for their custumers, by extending the warranty from 2 to 3 years, but wont take the computers there is a little bit to old, 4 months will make the difference. i can't believe it.
What can i do now?
best regards Oskar -
I recently saw that for os x server apple says that you can run it on inexpensive hardware like mac pro, imac and mac mini. It doesn't say anything about notebooks. So if i buy os x server will i be able to run it on my macbook pro mid 2012 with i5 2.5 GH, 4 Gb RAM and 10.8.4?
Thanks.Welcome to Apple Support Communities
OS X Server is compatible with any Mac that runs OS X Mountain Lion, so you can install it on any MacBook, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iMac, Mac mini or Mac Pro that supports Mountain Lion > http://www.apple.com/osx/specs
Just open the App Store and purchase OS X Server. The app will appear after finishing the download, so follow its steps to set up OS X Server on your computer. You will be able to install it for free in all your computers after purchasing it. If you want more information about OS X Server, read > http://www.apple.com/osx/server/ -
System frozen after 2 min. in Macbook Pro (mid 2010) with OS X 10.6.8
Hello, I'm hoping you can help me.
I got a real trouble with my MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2010) with OS X 10.6.8. It's simple, after at least 2 minutes working, the system gets frozen and the spinning wheel of the death keeps to eternity .
Because of this I decided to reinstall OS X with my original DVD, erasing and creating new partitions on my HDD. When the reinstallation was done, the same issue appeared, the system got frozen when I was configuring it for the first time after installation .
Now I've replaced the HDD and after installing OS X again, the same issue keeps appearing .
I omit that have launched AHT with no hardware errors, reset the NVRAM and PRAM, SMC, etc.
I really need help because I'm desperated.
Have a good day and many thanks in advance. That's tough, try to hunt down a good service provider, ask the people you if they know of one.
Just to let you know, I had my 2010 replaced TWICE!
That's why I think that may be your problem, I hope it's not.
Best of luck -

Hi guys
I tried the last two days everything from this forum. Run bootcamp, after restart (hold alt) go to the mac HD and delete or replace the bootcamp device (tried both options). had it almost done, at the end when it was installing/finnishing windows the error code "could not prepare the computer to boot into the next phase...... " and of course after that the "no bootable device insert boot disk and press any key boot camp".
Please help me to fix this thing!
Thanks a lot!

Help
The iMacs covered in this forum were made before 2006 and have PowerPC processors. Those processors cannot support any higher Mac OS than 10.5.8.
If the bad forum lableing has led you here by mistake and you may have a newr processor, let's verify your machine's family. Please do "About this Mac" from your Apple menu. You will get a window like this:
Note the "Processor line (second red arrow):
<> If is includes the word "Intel" as above, you can upgrade to 10.6.x by purchasing a US$20 disk from Apple
<> If it includes the word "PowerPC" you can upgrade no higher than OS 10.5.8.
If you have an Intel iMac, let us know and I can get you moved to that forum--it's more active. Also, here is the web link for ordering 10.6 if you have an Intel iMac:
http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
Newer iMacs can but updated farther, but require 10.6.6 minimum to have access to the App Store where upgrades are now delivered. If you have an Intel iMac, we will need to get more info to see exactly how far you can upgrade. That can wait, though. -
MacBook Pro mid 2010 - iMac late 2012 in target mode?
Can I connect a MacBook Pro mid 2010 with Mini Display Port with a late 1012 iMac in target mode? Thanks.
A 2010 MBP does not support Thunderbolt technology so that is not an avenue for you. A Fire wire with one of these adapters should enable you to connect the two devices:

MacBook Pro Mid-2010 kernel panic at each restart
Hi,
As most of you, I succumbed to temptation to update my MacBook Pro (mid-2010) with OSX Lion. First, I've done a traditional upgrade from Snow Leopard (10.6.8) from the Mac App Store. Due to some problems (see list bellow), I've decided to make a clean install (by extracting the file InstallESD.dmg from the Lion downloaded package. I've burned the package on on 16GB USB key (8GB is sufficient). Well.. On both type of installation I've encoutered the same problems.
The 99% of the time, my MBP make a kernel panic at the start (both when I do a simple restart of the system or after restating the system after a normal shutdown.
As I use mainly my MBP for professional use, I set the system to ask for a user logon at system start. Mainly each time, it wasn't possible to logon to the system. As soon as I tried to enter my password, I only see the game wheel icon turning on the screen and no possibility to enter my password. In this state, my only solution was to restart my system by pressing the power button.
Both of these two problem was replicable in either an upgraded system or on a clean install.
Finally (because I'm a patient guy :-) ), I've do a third clean installation, restored my system from one TimeMachine backup and found a solution to avoid having the problem I explain into the point 2.
When you restore a backup from TimeMachine from within Mac OSx, you have to create a second admin account, log onto this account and run the Migration Assistant to restore your backup. Admitting that, like me, during the clean OS installation, you've used the same account name as the one you had into your backuped installation, at the time of the TimeMachine restore, Migration Assistant will propose you two things:
Create a new user and restore our TimeMachine backup on this new username
Replace the existing username on your clean installed machine my the one that was backup into timemachine
As I've previously created a new account with admin right, I've logged on this account, launch Migration Assistant, confirm that I'm okay to restore my TimeMachine backup on the already existing user.
Finally, this setup resolved my point 2 problem. The difference between my initial setup and the one I use now is that I've now two users presented on my logging screen. To log on now, I've to choose the user, enter the password and never had the problem I had before with only one user set on my system.
Now, I really hope that Apple will fix this first version of Lion asap. For the rest, I'm pretty happy with the system. I'll work this week with Lion and will see if I encounter other problems. One thing is sure, I'll keep my TimeMachine backup of my previous Snow Leopard system at a safe place until I'll be sure that Lion will be stable.
Cheers....Hi,
That's correct, I'm running with one RAM chip, after testing the bays work correctly first, I elliminated that route, so it was indeed a bad RAM chip module.
I was just about to give up, as the first swap was with the good RAM out, so same problem. I thought I had nothing to lose by swapping the RAM again, and voila, it worked. I'm opening up some seriously big photoshop files at present, just to make doubly sure it's been resolved ha ha.
I'm looking at replacing my RAM now with OWC, as apparently according to their website and with the correct EFI updates, you can max out the mid 2010 MBP with 16GB of RAM. I'll much rather treat myself to that, than forking out on a new logic board.
I think it's quite a simple, but effective fix this one.
Thanks for all the advice and help, I really did appreciate it.
Ciao,

I can't expand my partition and I have free space Macbook pro mid 2010
Hello! I have a macbook pro mid 2010 with Mavericks, I had 2 partitions and deleted one with the disk utility, now I want to expand the one that I have left but I can't, I cannot drag the corner of the partition because it is below of the free space, I will post a picture so you can understand better. Also I tried using iPartitions but it won't let me make any changes. Thank you
Hi LamboMong,
just try this:
http://refit.sourceforge.net
install, reboot twice and choose the Windows-Partition on next startup.
(The apple-bootloader doesn't display all bootable harddisks.
With rEFIt you can boot from all partitions/harddisks on your computer.)
I hope that will solve your problem.

SSD choice in MacBook Pro Mid 2010
I have a MacBook Pro Mid 2010 with SATA 2 Interface (3Gb/s) and I would like to replace my HDD with a SSD.
I selected two SSDs as possible candidates for my Mac:
- V4 by Crucial with SATA 2 Interface (3Gb/s), Model CT256V4SSD2
- Samsung 830 Series with SATA 3 Interface (3Gb/s), Model MZ-7PC256B/WW
Does anyone have experiences with those drives and the same model of Mac? Could you provide me some info?
The price doesn't matter but the aspect that is important to me it's the compatibility with my Mac model.
Thanks in advance.wjosten,
Thanks for your reply.
What about the TRIM? Does OWC SSD have it by default or not?
Finally, do you suggest me the 3G model (Electra) or the 6G one? I think also the latter is compatible with my Mac model (MacBookPro 6,2).
Thank you for your support. -
Macbook Pro Mid-2010 Crashing Randomly with Mavericks?
Hey gang,
I recently upgraded to Mavericks right after purchasing a used Macbook Pro mid-2010. However, more frequently, the laptop has been crashing randomly, and it does not matter which programs/apps are running when it does. Below is the latest crash report. I am looking for help to avoid the nonsense of having to deal with the Genius Bar if at all possible.
If anyone could help me out and lend a helping hand as to what's causing the problem and how to fix it, I would be eternally grateful! Thanks so much.

Installing Windows 7 on MacBook Pro mid-2010 13" with Mavericks?
Hello, my 13" macbook pro mid-2010 is only capable of running BootCamp 4, but has Mavericks which can only run BootCamp 5. Is there any way to get around this to install Windows 7 through Bootcamp or any ways to downgrade from Mavericks to Mountain Lion without a Time Machine backup? I also know that virtual machines and Parallels are out there, but I need a separate partition for Windows for gaming.
Thanks.I just got off the phone with Apple Support. They have decided to make MacBook Pro mid 2010 models non-compatible with BootCamp 5. They have also decided to make OS Mavericks only compatible with BootCamp 5. Therefore it will not work at all unless you downgrade your OS. It is not possible to use BootCamp on mid 2010 MB Pros with Mavericks.
