I've downloaded Mountain Lion... now what? (Yes, laugh first, if you must... but nothing is happening!)

There's a new icon in my dock: install OSX Mountain Lion (with an arrow above it).
Clicking on icon does nothing.
***? ...Anyone?

You should have an application in your Applications folder named "Install OS X Mountain Lion.app". Normally when the download is complete, the application starts on it's own and you can begin installation. Then the app 'disappears'. See if the app is there. If not, it may not have concluded downloading.

  • Mail quits on startup, not on a guest account. This only happened after downloading Mountain Lion. What do I do to fix this?

A couple of days after downloading Mountain Lion (10.8.3) Mail quits on startup. This doesn't happen on a quest account. I understand I'm not the only one with this problem (understatement). Has anybody found a solution yet??

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the process. The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • "An error has occurred" downloading Mountain Lion. What should I do now ?

"An error has occurred" downloading Mountain Lion.
I accidentally closed the application app during download of Mountain Lion and now it shows "An error has occurred"
In the application app there is a grey button next to the error message, if I click on it nothing happens
Mountain Lion is showing in Launchpad as waiting, if I click on it, nothing happens
What should I do now ?

    Launch the App Store.
From the App Store menu bar (top of your screen) click Check for Unfinished Downloads
If that doesnt help, try here >   Mac App Store: How to resume interrupted downloads

  • I have downloaded Mountain Lion, now when I try to open a document in Pages, it says I need an updated version.

I downloaded Mountain Lion this morning. Now when I try to open a document in Pages, it says I need a newer version. When I go to the App Store, it says I have Pages installed.

What version of Pages are you running now?
The newest update is 4.2 at least for the box set version I have which came out a couple of days ago.

  • HT202159 Hi can anyone help? Can't download - Mountain lion now permanently 'paused' in the dock. Purchase page does not have the resume button and I have already signed in & out again... HELP!

    Hi
    Can anyone advise...
Cannot download Mountain Lion after purchasing from Apple online. Mountain Lion icon is now permanently 'paused' in the dock. The Purchase page has the download but no resume button. I have enter the code again but it cannot be redeemed again. I have signed in and out again from the tab at the top of the page.
I have spoken to Apple for two evenings now. Last attempt was to bypass the Mountain Lion and download Mavericks overnight but nothing downloaded.
I have checked the internet connection and all is well.
Any ideas how to progress... I have an appointment to take in to Apple on Monday...

Have you tried to resume the download using Launch Pad?  The icon should be in your Dock.
    If that doesn't help ...
Apps such as Little Snitch, Growl, and MacKeeper can prevent apps from downloading
Disable anti virus software if installed
Make sure the firewall is turned off in System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Firewall
    Make sure Gatekeeper is enabled
Open System Preferences > Security & Privacy then select the General tab.
Make sure either Mac App Store or Mac App Store and identified developers is selected.
If that area is grayed out, click the padlock icon to proceed.

  • HT4854 I downloaded Mountain Lion, now can't find it, to install. About this Mac, says I am still on 10.7.4

Last night, I downloaded Mountain Lion. I watched, as an unfamiliar screen came up, showing the download progress, when it was all over, my desktop went back to looking and acting just like Lion. I tried restarting it, nothing. I tried restarting again, nothing. I performed a "Find" for Mountain Lion, nothing. I performed a "Find" for OSX 10.8, nothing. I am simply trying to install it on the computer I downloaded it to.
What am I doing wrong? I wrote an email to Apple support, and got a "canned" email back, telling me how to generically retrieve downloads from the App Store. But, by following those directions, I do not see (nor did I expect to see) Mountain Lion in my iTunes. I see it in my download history, but no method to install it, which I thought it was doing, last night, when I bought and thought I was downloading it.

Open Launchpad and see if "Install Mountain Lion ..." is displayed. If it is then you will find the application in your Applications folder.
Normally, the applicaton launches automatically after it is downloaded. You would have to click on the Install button in order to start the upgrade.

  • Can I download Mountain Lion now but install later

I made a " Qualifying purchases between June 11, 2012, and July 25, 2012 " so I have until August 24, 2012 to download Mountain Lion for free according to <http://www.apple.com/osx/uptodate/>
Can I download Mountain Lion before that deadline but install it later on?
I'd like to go from Lion to Mountain Lion when ML has nay initial bugs resolved.
    Thanks.

Yes, the installer downloads to the Applications folder, if after downloading it asks to continue to do the installation just close that dialogue.  Later, when you are ready to install click on the installer in the Applications folder and it will do its thing.

  • Downloaded Mountain Lion--now my computer is horrible.

    Hello.
My wife encouraged me to download Mountain Lion and I did.  Since the download, my computer is moving horribly slow.  The apps are slow, Safari is slow and things are freezing up.
Unforuntately, I am on vacation in Europe and I can't get to a local apple store.  Does anyone know what I can do to either fix/improve my issues or get back to Lion.  I have a Macbook Air that is only 10 months old.
I have tried Verifying Disk Permissions and Repair Disk Permissions--recommended by a friend.
PLEASE HELP!!  I am so angry.

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
One possible cause of a slow user interface is a large number of image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons. If you have more than a dozen or so such files, move them to another folder.
Otherwise, take these steps when you notice the problem.
    Step 1
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
Next, select the Disk Activity tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in and Writes out.)
    Step 2
You must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way as above. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Post the 50 or so most recent messages in the log — the text, please, not a screenshot.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into a message.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out before posting.

  • I downloaded mountain lion; now it won't stop "moving calendars to server account".  How long should this take?

I have just installed Mountain Lion and was initially thrilled to see that my
calendars for iphone and ipad finally synced!  However, the message on
my MacBook Pro calendar page is "moving calendars to server account"
and it's been doing that for about 1.5 hours at this point.  The only way to get
out of calendar is to force quit, and when I restart, and go back to calendar,
it's right back with moving calendars to server account.
What should I do to solve this?

    Restart your Mac.

  • Can we still download Mountain Lion now that Mavericks is out?

Unfortunately, my Macbook is too old to install the Mavericks OS. Is there a way users like me still get Mountain Lion?

    You are wrong.
To install Mountain Lion, you need one of these Macs:
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
To install Mavericks, you need one of these Macs:
    iMac (Mid-2007 or later)
MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, Late 2008), (13-inch, Early 2009 or later)
MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later),
    MacBook Pro (15-inch or 17-inch, Mid/Late 2007 or later)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or later)
Mac Mini (Early 2009 or later)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or later)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
Your MacBook Air (13-inch, Early 2008) is not able to run neither Mountain Lion or Mavericks. You could go as high as Lion. That's all.

  • I struggle with download Mountain Lion. It took alot time, spending whole day for nothing.

What should I do now ? Can some one help me ? I felt inconvenient not only downloading the previous OS but also with this new OS again. Give me solutions !!!!!

I'm not sure what help you're looking for. Mountain Lion can only be obtained via download at this time. Perhaps you should find another network on which to download the file. If there's an Apple Store near you, that would work.

  • After downloading mountain lion my computer keeps shutting down and restarting, why? this never happened before

When trying to buy mountain lion, nothing happens.  I also cannot update other apps.  What am I doing wrong?

  • Calendar and Contacts won't sync between my iPad (ios6) and iMac (mountain lion). I've trolled forums looking for fixes but nothing is working so far. Any ideas?

Not really sure where this question should go, since it crosses 3 topic areas. Neither my contacts nor my calendar will sync from iMac (mountain lion) to iPad 3 (ios6). I've tried a byzantine series of fixes - mostly involving backing up each, turning off cloud syncing, turning it back on, with lots of little steps in between (I'd be more detailed, but I gave up for several weeks and don't really remember them). Is this a real issue, or am I missing something simple? It's extremely frustrating to have what is advertised as basic functionality not work even a little bit. Especially when 3rd party apps sync just fine. Any help would be much appreciated.

Never mind... It was indeed something simple that I missed (my icloud account was attached to an apple ID I didn't even know existed -- created for me?? ... fixed it - settings, icloud, sign out, signed back in as my actual apple ID).

  • Just Installed Mountain Lion, Now What?

Where's documentation on what's new and how to use the new features?
I see a few new icons. All the reviews of this OS upgrade claims hundreds of new features. Am I suppose to just accidentally discover these features?
Apple, just give me some documentation.

New apps like Messages, Notes etc have helpful info in the menu at the top of the screen under the name "Help"
Do some Google searches yourself and you will find lots of guides and helpful hints. Learn to find your own info and you will never look back. You will find all sorts of things you didn't know existed.
