I want resolution at ~"2800x1600"!

I have an "old" Apple Cinema Display - Not the 1st one that cost >$3000. I think it is the 2nd model. (It is certainly NOT the new current models!)
My Cinema Display was working perfectly with my 2007 MacBook Pro which has died. (RIP)
So I bought a new non-retina 13" MBP with 2.9GHz, 8GB RAM, 750GB 5400 serial-ATA drive running OSX 10.8.2 Mountain Lion.
I bought a Thunderbolt-to-DVI adapter and my "old" Cinema Display is as beautiful as ever
-- BUT the top resolution is 1280 x 800! [with 3 other resolutions less than that (in Display under "Scaled" button in System Preferences)].
argh, How can I get my Apple Cinema Display to a "higher resolution" near/like it used to be!? Please, please help!!! I'm in tears (so to speak)

Add standalone webserver in 2012 r2 domain with essentials experience

Hi all,
I'm struggling to configure a standalone web server to run in a server 2012 r2 essentials experience domain. The goal is to leave the essentials hosted anywhere access features managed by iis on the server, and also serve a public website on a separate
win 7/8 machine.
The essentials experience access anywhere features use ports 80 and 443, and the current configuration works. The standalone server can use ports 8080/8443. The anywhere access wizard configured the router to forward ports 80 and 443 to the 2012
server. I added forwarding rules to the router for 8080 and 8443 to the standalone.
How do I indicate that www.standalone-site.com is a) on port 8080 and b) on a different domain computer? I attempted to do so with iis bindings, and Get-WebBinding shows:
http 192.168.192.12:8080:www.standalone-site.com
However, internal browsing to www.standalone-site.com results in an ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT error.
Internal browsing to www.standalone-site.com:8080 works as expected.
I'd appreciate any help.

Thanks for the suggestions. I left out some details -- using the DMZ along with a second router -- but I think the original question still stands. All queries for domain.com will still want resolution from the Exxentials Experience AD DS
(with DNS). Some queries will be sourced by remote staff looking for Access Anywhere (a key reason we're using Essentials Exp). Other queries will be looking for www.domain.com, regardless of where it is hosted. I don't know how to configure
that. Should I be looking at IIS's Application Request Routing to route traffic based on the fqdn?
I'd like to avoid the easy solution of acquiring a different domain name for web site vs. the staff's Anywhere Access portal. I do this as a favor for a few non profits. I've been handling their domain reg and ddns bills and it starts to add
up.
I do appreciate the reply. Any follow up based on what I've written here?

I use premier CS3 and often work with music videos
each of my videos has a length of 5 mins or less
I used to use "Export to Movie" option and just use the default settings (my final AVI files size was around 650mb) , but recently discovered through a friend that we could get a better result by changing the settings a bit , at Media Convert
Oobviously i went through some topics in the FAQ about what setting to use for YouTube videos as well, but looks like pretty much everything is outdated , so after some researches , i got these settings for youtube videos, i used these settings and the outcome was not bad , here is what i used for a 5 mins music video for youtube :
format : Mpeg2
summary :
NTSC, 1280x720---29.97drop fram[fps] , progressive, Quality 5.0
bitrate settings :
Bitrate encoding    VBR, 1pass
Minimum bitrate 4
target bitrate 10
maximum bitrate   18.5
So, my question is :
is that about right to you or certain settings needs to be changed for youtube
and what settings do you recommend for a 5 mins video in AVI format

Honestly, i did a lots of research on youtube videos, even watched tutorials on youtube as well, but its very confusing in many ways because one person says one thing and the other person says something else , and don't know who is right, some of you with more experience should be able to direct few of us here towards the right path, and your help and tips will be preciated .

for example, i recorded the game video with Fraps, 1280x1024, now i want resolution to be 1280x720, when the programm starts adobe animated cartoon, we must create a project, there must choose one of the popular format video, so here i like pick: AVC-Intra 720p, AVC-I 100 720p30, then i add my shoot video files into the programm, but when they add on the tape, process and want to bring in the final version, it turns out that the final file from the top and bottom is not something that fits is removed, because i had a video 1024, a project I chose 720, so the question is: how in the programm to output the final file to do so in 1024 decreased in proportion to 720, so that nothing is missing from the top and bottom of the screen?

On Premier Pro when you export you have the option of scaling, yeah? Or convert your video into the size you want prior to importing into premier. To maintain the aspect ratio its probably cropping off the top and bottom to fit the height of720px.

I have no idea what Subway Surfer should look like so I wouldn't know if there was a graphical glitch in your screenshot or not, but I assume that the brown figure on the left side should, have real definition in the features and details in the clothing rather than just look like a smeary brown blob. That's just a guess on my part.
I understand that you paid good money for the device and that it should not be doing what you are experiencing. I would start with the basic troubleshooting steps - moving all the way up to a complete restore of the iOS - and if they don't work, then you will have to contact Apple if you want resolution to the problem. They must have an authorized repair facility that you could send the device to if needed.
Restart, reset, restore.

Am not sure you want resolution of which error. Moreover am not sure why on earth anybody would like to resize, if resize is not possible then drop that datafile without migrating the data.
Anyways,
1) You can query dba_segments for tablespaces, dba_extents for datafiles to get the list of objects that are affected by missing datafile
2) What issue you meant.
3) Is your databases in archive mode. And do you have all the archives from the point when you issued the command may be we could recover but all depends

Bridge 5.5--setting dpi

How can I set the dpi default to 300 in Camera RAW? I am shooting in RAW, processing in BRIDGE, but my images show 100 dpi when I save into PS 5.5. This hasn't happened before.
How can I control the dpi?

I am not sure I fully understand: you cannot process RAW files in Bridge, you process those files in ACR (Adobe Camera Raw).
At the bottom of the ACR window you click what looks like a link but is in fact a button. There you specify the wanted resolution.

Could not replicate the issue...

So I sent in my iPhone 4 the other day, and today i've recieved an email saying sorry we could not replicate the issue.
Now I sent my phone in because it had an intermittent fault/s, maybe apple dont understand what that means... or maybe they just dont want to.
Anyway, i've had my rant, the phone was sometimes overheating, and i mean overheating, it was hot to touch, so god knows how hot the inner parts were, however what is worrying is i didnt even get the temperature warning. This happens every now and then, and must be causing internal damage, if not that, a fire risk.
The battery has also diminished thouroughly. To the point where it doesnt even last half a day, when i used to get atleast i day out of it.
Also the phone is failing to send/recieve texts to specific recipients, this may be a carrier issue, however if it is not, how can apple test the phones messaging capabilities to the people I have been messaging. So of course they wont replicate the issue.
What should I do? My phone needs fixing, but Apple aren't helping.

Absolutely not.
Assuming it's under warranty.
You just need to call the same number you called before to set up a repair.
Speak politely with the agent and explain that you have tried a repair, the issue was deemed irreproducible and that you wish to contest this.
Tell them that you feel very frustrated with this issue and you no longer wish to accept this level of performance from the device.
If they don't offer to set up an exception so that the phone is replaced next time you send it in,
Tell them that you would like to speak to their manager, they will put you onto a senior advisor, again be polite and tell them the same thing.
That you're not happy and you want resolution to this issue as it's a very real problem for you.
I've found the Apple tech support to be very easy to deal with on the whole so I'm sure they'll have no problem sorting you out, I guess they have that policy of sending back iPhones that they can't reproduce the issue with to worm out the kinda people who send it back over nothing.

Hands free kit with music control + use my own headphones?!

Hello all, hope you guys are doing well! This is my first post here
I am looking for a product and I have searched high and low to no avail. I have an iphone 3GS with iOS4. I use my own earphones but it annoys me how I can't change tracks whilst playing music on the move (eg running). I am looking for an adaptor that will allow me to use my own earphones but also that has a microphone and a button to allow me to pause/play and change tracks as well as answering a phonecall or sending it to voicemail.
I understand that Apple does not make a product like this (if they do, please let me know!) and I have stumbled across the "Griffin SmartTalk" but I have read mixed reviews about it on Amazon.
I would really appreciate it if someone could suggest a solution! Thanks very much in advance!

What you are describing is not possible. How do you get your 30 second clip onto the iPhone? If you place it in a playlist it gets transferred as part of your iPod library and is not accessible from the ringtone selection screen.
You can pair the iPhone with the Macbook Pro so they see each other but the iPhone reports tot he Macbook that it has no services available. Yet another great feature crippled by Apple.
As for returning the phone, I think it's important that Apple be made aware that customers wanting these features are angry about it and want resolution. The "if you don't like it, return it and buy something else" notion will never resolve the problem, and just result in customers losing the other features that make the iPhone such a great device. It's like voting for someone you agree with on most issues, and writing to their offices to encourage them to re-think their position on the ones you disagree with. Disabling these features is about one thing - money. Apple has a right to seek all the money they can get. What really stands out about these recent practices is that they are contrary to Apple's past positions on customer creativity and freedom to use Apple products to do highly creative things, without a required additional fee.
iTunes, iPhoto, imovie and iDVD are all included with OSX. Why? Because they make the experience complete and require no additional costs to achieve incredible results that competitors can't offer in the out-of-box experience. On the iPhone, Nokia's kicking Apple's tail when it comes to Blurtooth file transfers, movie recording, and applying MP3s as ringtones. As a 20+ year Mac customer, I'm not used to being forced to give up useful features just to have new, different ones.

Graphic Backgrounds

I used to be able to create new graphic background images with AppleWorks-Draw. Now that Appleworks is no longer compatible with Mac OS, does anyone know of a simple way to create your own background images using Pages? (I don't think it's possible)

They can be used for browser or page backgrounds in iWeb. In Draw I could work designs at the pixel level and in any color. Now I can't. Do you know of an alternative in Pages or iWork?

I understand your frustration, Fabini, but I think you may be asking for the wrong functionality in the wrong applications. Pages is a word processing and page layout app, and Keynote is a presentation app. Neither are designed to do creation and editing of pixel precise bitmapped graphics (unlike the apps I listed earlier). Pages outputs its documents to a variety of different printers as well as PDF, and those cases you wouldn't want to create 72DPI bitmapped graphics, you would want resolution-independent vector art, which Pages gives you.
It is indeed annoying when some device or application that you had used for a purpose unintended by the developer no longer supports that purpose, but it shouldn't be unexpected. I liken this to coathangers -- although old-fashioned wire coathangers were useful for all sorts of other things than just hanging coats (e.g., car antenna, impromptu drain router, structural wire for craft projects) it is unreasonable to expect that plastic or wooden coathangers would support those uses.
And it would be cool if Apple at some point created a graphics app, but I seriously doubt that such will happen while Adobe is so important to the platform. Given that, the alternatives listed above are a good start for useful and lightweight applications that are easy to use and good value for the money.

Exporting as AVI in certain size

I'm trying to export a video that has 640 x 480 resolution as an AVI with 320 x 240 resolution, but I'm not sure how. Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks.

indeed, when choosing "avi" as container, you do not have any resizing options.. choosing "Quicktime" as container, you have all options: codecs, framerates, AND sizes..
sorry, I never export as .avi....
probably, you have to do a two stop process:
* export as Quicktime, in your wanted resolution...
* open resulting file in QTpro (.. you need to purchase a licence..), choose "avi" as export option...
.. sorry, avi is very little supported on Mac ...

C320:Poor service

My PC is Lenovo C320,
Warranty expires on 11th March 2015.
I'm from Mumbai.
I have registered a complaint on March 12th about problems with LAN port and WiFi.
The call centre asked me to use One-Key Recovery method,restart several times,try out their "Remote Access" service.They refused to help me further without following all such steps.
This was not helpful.
Finally he agreed that it was a problem with the mother board and sent the parts with the technicians.
Two technicians had come with the required parts.They were here for atleast 3 hours.They rebooted my PC for atleast 20-30 times.It was overheated when they left.
They opened up the machine,examined the parts.One guy said it was a problem with the LAN port and some chip from the motherboard.Yet they did not replace the parts saying that it a problem with my internet.
Right now I'm using this same internet on my Lenovo Laptop,and its works just fine.
I observed that one technician called Arvind was the instructor and the other guy called Rajesh was the trainee here.
They used my PC to teach and learn.
But according to me both of them had no knowledge regarding this PC.
Reasons:
1.I saw one technicain SPITTING on the RAM and wiping it on his PANTS and placed it on the wrong side.
When he tried to boot up the PC,it did not start.
When I questioned him about it he claimed he was "Fixing" the problem.
2.They did not understand nor speak english.
3.They argued and obstinately stuck to their stand that it was the internet problem and then left the place.
I tried to call the Care centre again.They say they will "decide" whether to help me or not based on these guys' report.
Please Help me and do the needful to fix my PC.

I am sorry to hear you are having these problems. I would continue to keep at it though and insist you get elevated to a customer service rep either here in the U.S. or in Hong Kong. It might be worth the cost of the phone call. You need to be firm that you are not satisfied with the product you purchased, you spend a lot of money, and you want resolution to your problems either with a new unit or a expedited repair.
Its sad but I really see more overseas Mac owners having these types of issues than U.S. Mac owners on these boards. Apparently there are different procedures depending on the country where it was purchased.
If anyone can shed any light whether or not Apple customer support and return procedures are truly global in scope, would really like to know. Thanks

What's the difference between Image and Image Frame?

I'm a little confused about how Muse treats bitmap images. Sometimes when you resize a high resolution image, the resulting bitmap is resized to the final wanted resolution but sometimes the bitmap is stored in hi res and is only resized in the browser view.
I have a hires logo and I want to put it in the web in different sizes but instead of storing a resized image, Muse always stores it in full hi res. I believe it has something to do with being inside an Image Frame because images that are not inside an image frame are stored resized. But if I double click the image frame so the image is selected (with orange borders), and then copy it, when I paste it again, it is also pasted with the Image Frame. If I use the menu command File/Place, it also appears inside an Image Frame.
So to make long story short, what I need is to place a hi res image, reduce it in size and I want Muse to save it at that size, not at original resolution.
Of course I know I can resize it in Photoshop and use the resized image but that's not the point here.
