Exporting as AVI in certain size

I'm trying to export a video that has 640 x 480 resolution as an AVI with 320 x 240 resolution, but I'm not sure how. Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks.

I don't see any "size" options here...
APOLOGIZE!!!
.. me wrong.. !!
indeed, when choosing "avi" as container, you do not have any resizing options.. choosing "Quicktime" as container, you have all options: codecs, framerates, AND sizes..
sorry, I never export as .avi....
probably, you have to do a two stop process:
* export as Quicktime, in your wanted resolution...
* open resulting file in QTpro (.. you need to purchase a licence..), choose "avi" as export option...
.. sorry, avi is very little supported on Mac ...
Plan B)
there's a free tool, called ffmpegX, which allows converting an iM's export as mp4-encoded avi or Xvid-encoded avi... and - for sure! - resizing.. ;))
you get ffmpegX here:

  • Is there an "export as AVI" file size duration limit?

I would have thought this question had already been addressed, but my choice of key-words didn't find any recent discussions.
I created a 5-minute movie (iPhoto stills w/ Ken Burns effects). Saved as H.264 encoded QT movie at 768x576 size, but it will be shown on a PC, and I'm uncertain as to whether I'll find the most recent version of QT (or, ANY version) on the PC. I noticed iMovie HD has an AVI export option under the expert settings, so I tried exporting an AVI version. Compression time was only a fraction of the H.264 compression (big "plus" as I'll be doing one of these a week), and the quality was excellent... so, what's the "but"? No matter what option combinations I try, only the first 30 seconds of my movie are exported (which explains the short compression time).
Since the H.264 version is under 400 MB, there's room for a copy of the QT for Windows installer on the CD, so I just need to arrive early enough in case I need to install QT (I'll want to transfer the movie to the PC's hard drive anyway), but I'm curious to know whether there is a known reason for this limitation, or whether I'm missing something obvious.

QuickTime Pro doesn't export to Windows Media Player formats without additional software and expense.
I understand that, but when you're choosing an export option in iMovie (not explicitly in QT), one is not likely to make such an otherwise tangential association.
Can I infer (from your reference to QuickTime Pro) that the export to WMV option in iMovie would appear only when a QuickTime Pro license is present?

  • Not getting an option of exporting in mpeg 4 format? AVI file the size of the file is extremely huge

    Hi,
I am not getting an option of exporting in mpeg 4 format? Infact when I am rendering in AVI file the size of the file is extremely huge. Please can somebody help me in reducing the file size & exporting in MPEG4 format.

You need to learn about encoding. The default file type is Lossless for a reason. If you are using Ray-tracing and you have a supported Cuda card you must use the Adobe Render Cue. If you are not using Ray-traced rendering then you should be using the Adobe Media Encoder.
This will get you started: Basic Workflow, the last section is on rendering.

  • FCP 5 export to .AVI for Windows client? Advice needed!

I have a Windows platform client that wants my Exported FCP 5 Sequence in .AVI format.
Obviously, I normally always use Export to Quicktime Movie in FCP, and I do know that their is not a direct choice in FCP to export/convert as an .AVI file. (I usually hand off the FCP file to another facility that does DVD Studio Pro authoring work, and haven't had a need to make different file formats).
This has made me to ponder of few bits of info, that I'm sure I could get great ansers to, here.
My normal "workaround" for making an .AVI for a Windows user is to Export as Quicktime Movie in FCP, like normal, and then open that exported file in Quicktime Pro, and use Export Movie to AVI in Quicktime Pro. Is this the best method? Secondly, I am a little unsure as to the best settings I should use in QT Pro to achieve this. For example:
I just did a routine NTSC 48k,16 bit stereo, 30 second ad in FCP, and my normal, Export to Quicktime Movie was about 260 meg in size for the finished, self-contained movie file.
I opened this in QT-Pro and ran Export to AVI. In the settings dialog, I chose "uncompressed" for video and 48k-16 bit stereo for audio. The resulting export was about 680 meg in size! Because of file size restrictions for the clients product, what settings change or choice should I be making in QT-Pro to get an "equivalent" of the 260 meg file the FCP is exporting? Should I not get an equal file size of the QT-Pro AVI versus the FCP export (both 260 meg?).
If the answer is compression, what is the best settings in QT-Pro? Cinepak? Intel Indeo?
Perhaps, I have always misunderstood what FCP Export to Movie is giving me, but I thought that was uncompressed video? If so, why do I get the 260 meg out of FCP, and then 680 meg from QT-Pro Export to AVI (uncompressed) for the same 30 second clip? Is it simply a data rate difference?
Lastly, I have actually had a Windows user take a FCP Export to Movie file, straight from me, and they say it opened fine in Windows Media Player as is for viewing. However, there is no (dot) file extension name on the end of the filename. They can simply click File/Open in Windows Media Player and choose the "unrecognized" file because of no extension, and play it just fine to at least view the clip.
So what exactly is the file type that FCP is creating? It's not a .MOV and not an AVI file. What would be the equivalent file type association (just for my curiosity).
Thanks for any help to the above as I value the more-experienced users here.
    Wade

    Hi Wade,
Sorry for letting your post unanswered for two days, we were all busy (I know, it is not an excuse).
Seriously, I think the reason you are not getting answers is you have asked too many questions in one post. Don't know about others, but I get slightly confused.
Let me tell you what I do with FCP material when I send it to our sound department where they work with Nuendo on PCs. I export sequence using QT Conversion. My settings are: Format - AVI, Compression type - DV-PAL, Compressor quality - Best. I do not bother much about the sound. I sent the resulting file over network to a Maxtor FireWire external drive connected to a colleague's PC and then take the drive down to the sound guys. If the AVI file is smaller than 2 GB I can burn it to a DVD and a PC can open it, if it is larger, PCs cannot open. Also, the sound guys ask me not to use Cinepac, they do not like it. Therefore, I use DV-PAL; I guess you may safely use DV-NTSC but it depends on who will open the AVI file. Ask your client what it wants.
I think my routine is a bit more streamlined than yours - I export straight from FCP and do not bother with QT. You are wrong in saying that there is no direct way in FCP to export AVI.
Hope this is a starter for more answers. Also, have you tried searching the forum? I am sure all the answers are already there.

  • Export to PDF (smallest file size) is giving me a very large file

    Hi all,
I got 2 document with around 100 pages (same size), with a picture or two in each page.
I've been using the Export to PDF (smallest file size) and export it.
first file became 5MB, which is fine
second file became 30MB, this is much too much.
I have used the exact same setting for both files and have no idea why the big difference between them.
The only difference between them is that first file contains CMYK photos, and second one - RGB.
    Can this be the difference?
    Any suggestions?
    thanks,
    shlomit

That's certainly part of the difference. Additional font information if one of the documents uses more fonts or additional glyphs could be some of it, too. Swatches and styles might also be a factor. Vectors don't compress like bitmaps, either.
Have you opened the optimizer and done a space usage audit to see what is taking up all the space? Did you do a Save AS before export?

  • Poor Quality Export to AVI

Hi im a newcomer to Premier Pro and need some help in adjusting my settings for exporting my video.
The video in question is made up of 5 seperate videos (created from still jpegs with ImageVideoMachine at 1024x768 with 24fps and 1080HD Profile). When I view these videos seperately they are good quality and do not have any problems. However after i imported them to Premier Pro and added an audio track in the background and a small bit of text the quality after export is really bad in places.
I have tried lots of different settings in the export but just cant seem to get it right. The main problems that seem to occur is when the camera moves quickly from one scene to another and it seems to get very blurry and pixelated and sort of like half the scene is catching up (hope this makes sense!).
The entire video is only 4 and a half minutes long so I am not too worried about the size of the file. Any help would be greatly appreciated as im at a loss what to try next and the poor quality of the video takes away so much from my hard work in creating the presentation.
    Hoping you can help
    Alan

Just as further information for anyone who can help. These are the properties of one of the five .avi files I created using ImageVideoMachine. As I said these play at a good quality and without any pixelation of blurriness.
    1.avi
    Type: AVI Movie
    File Size: 32.6 MB
    Image Size: 1024 x 768
    Pixel Depth: 1024
    Frame Rate: 24.00
    Total Duration: 00:00:41:21
Average Data Rate: 797 KB / second
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.0
    AVI File details:
    Contains 1 video track(s) and 0 audio track(s).
    Video track 1:
Size is 32.58M bytes (average frame = 33.20K bytes)
There are 76 keyframes, 929 delta frames.
    Frame rate is 24.00 fps
    Frame size is 1024 x 768
    Depth is 24 bits.
    Compressor: 'DX50', ffdshow Video Codec
Now these are the properties of the best quality export from Premier Pro after I edited my video. Although this is my best quality export it is still very poor quality compared to the original videos I am using to create it.
    Type: AVI Movie
    File Size: 212.6 MB
    Image Size: 1024 x 756
    Pixel Depth: 1024
    Frame Rate: 24.00
Source Audio Format: 48000 Hz - 16 bit - Stereo
Project Audio Format: 48000 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Stereo
    Total Duration: 00:04:11:00
Average Data Rate: 867 KB / second
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.333
    AVI File details:
    Contains 1 video track(s) and 1 audio track(s).
    Interleave: 1 : 24.00
    Video track 1:
Size is 166.44M bytes (average frame = 36.10K bytes)
This movie appears to have DROPPED FRAMES
There are 28 keyframes, 5905 delta frames.
    There are 91 empty frames.
    Frame rate is 24.00 fps
    Frame size is 1024 x 756
    Depth is 24 bits.
    Compressor: 'DX50', ffdshow Video Codec
    Audio track 1:
    Size is 45.95M bytes
    Rate is 48000 samples/sec
    Sample size is 16 bits
Hope this helps you to understand what im trying to do here.
    Thanks again

  • Export to jpg - limit file size vs resize to fit - best option or same?

    Hi,
Sorry if this has been asked before, I take a large number of event images and the usual client request for images being sent to the press is image size rather than resolution, dimensions or other requirements.
Clearly in LR3 if the client has requested 3MB jpg the easy option is to after processing take my Canon 5d mkii RAW file and just hit export to max 3MB jpg.
My question is is it better - ie image quality better - to export by resizing longest edge to approx 3000 px and exporting to jpg which results in a similar file size, though different pixel dimensions? Or are they effectively the same?
    Any thoughts?
Many thanks in advance on best practice....
    Cheers,
    dxbluey

To tell you the truth, a client asking for a 3MB JPG is a very meaningless thing to do.
Any time you are changing the number of pixels on a side, you are changing the image quality. Any time you are forcing the photo to be a certain size in MB other than the maximum, you are accepting a certain reduction in image quality. Which is worse? It all depends on the original, and how much change you are asking for.
So, that's my answer ... IT ALL DEPENDS.

  • QuickTimePro - Export vs Save - Different File sizes

    Hi,
with the trim to selection command I selected a bigger part of an AVI-video (Video track format: MPEG-4 DivX v.5 + Audio: Mpeg-1 layer 3 (mp3)).
Although I did not change the video or audio settings I got different file sizes:
The exported video has double the size than the saved file.
    Therfore my questions:
    What is the reason?
What should I prefer - export or save - trying to get smaller files with the same quality?
Thanks for a tip.Greetings from the heart of Germany
    Herbert

    HI mrfibuli
I think you are seeing a general housecleaning of things that
were formerly in your library. For example, lets say you took a
fairly large project. Perhaps 80 slides. Then you delete 60 slides.
This would leave many items in the library. They would be there,
but be unused. So you save as, and after a couple of times of doing
this, the unused objects are purged from the file. This is why you
are seeing a difference in size.
    Sincerely... Rick

  • Premiere Pro CS3 - export to Avi

I have been using Topaz enhance to upsize my SD footage to 1280 x 720 HD with some good results, I have to encode the footage to H264 (MPG4)
The process is very time consuming.
Is it poss to render the 1280 x 720 file to an Avi of the same output size? - Premiere changes it back to 720 x 576 when I export to Avi
The other question - How many times can you encode an Mp4 file as I have to bring the Topaz HD files back into the project?
The Mp4 files do not play well on my system 3.4ghz 3gb ram when using various players but play ok when exported into a new Premiere Cs3 project.
An Avi would speed up the render process.
    Hope someone can help

Where would I find Avi uncompressed or Lagarith within premiere? I have plenty of Hard drive space for large files
I can,t afford to keep waiting while the project re -encodes to an Mp4 10secs takes about an hour
Will an uncompressed Avi still keep the quality Topaz has produced, Encoding to H264 seems to retain it but takes ages.

  • Exporting to avi in PE8

    Hi folks,
I have two avi video files that are both around the 1gig mark.  I have joined them with PE8.
When I then do the export to pc\file as avi the completed file ends up being around the 26gig mark.
Can anyone shed some light on where I'm going wrong, I'm a new to all this video editing lark.
How can I get this completed video down to a reasonable size, it will end up on youtube and google videos.
    Any help is much appreciated.

As you will see in that article, AVI can be so very much. In the Share/Export settings, one can have quite a few choices. They can have even more, if they have installed other CODEC's, like the Lagarith Lossless, which will also wrap the file as an AVI.
    File size depends on:
    Duration
    CODEC chosen and its compression
    Frame Size
    Bit-rate
Obviously, the Duration is what it is, but the other attributes can often be adjusted in the Share/Export settings dialog screens, and some to a pretty fine level.
AVI Uncompressed is going to yield a very large file. It is also pretty much unnecessary, as other CODEC's can apply a degree of compression to drop the file size, and depending on the CODEC chosen, will result in files that the viewer will never know are compressed.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Exporting to AVI too large

I'm trying to convert a Flash file to .MOV, then take it into QuickTime Pro and export it as an .AVI file so it will play on a Windows PowerPoint file. The exported .MOV is under 2MB, but when I export the .AVI file it either hoses or grows to 280+MB. I'm not sure what compression option I need to use, but most of them seem to strip the quality a bunch. Are there any resources you can recommend that I can read up on about this? Once the file leaves Flash I'm pretty much clueless .. I need it to be clear and small if possible.

David's answer is on the mark but a bit more confusing than it has to be.
Flash files use "objects" or "elements" that are reused during playback. They need only be created once to be used over and over again. The format is also "vector" based which simply means that they also need only be created once and then scale (based on the video playback) to the size the author wishes to use.
So. A bush or a shrub can be used over and over again in the playback (changing size or shape) without adding to the total file size.
It is the entire reason for creating using the Flash format. One object, used dozens of times, doesn't make the file any larger in file size. These objects can also be used at different video ratios (for want of a better word) because they are "vector" based. They enlarge or diminish in size based on the authors control of the object. They can also have "actions" (the bounce of a ball, for example).
When you convert these vector formats to "video" you must convert each stage as a "frame". Each image (at 30 frames per second) adds to the total file size and is now "fixed" as a pixel (dot) in an image.
So. Your .swf export now becomes a very large file size and is "fixed" (no longer scales to the screen). Ugly and large.
It's not a fault of the export once you know why (and how) it happens.

  • Export to Web: vary only size? (i.e. from 320x240 to 400x300)

I'm not anywhere close to being an expert user of iMovie. I'd just like to export to a different pixel size (maybe 400 x 300 or 640 x 480) with the same other settings as the default "export to web" feature. When I try changing the "size" in the expert settings, it seems like everything else gets trumped up, because I end up with a HUGE file size.
Is there a simple way to just change the pixel dimensions without changing the other settings? Or does anyone know the default "save to web" settings, so I can input those and vary the pixel size only?
Sorry if this is obvious or easy (but I can't figure it out). Thanks.

Exporting with expert settings is neither easy nor obvious, so it's a good question.
One way to figure out what settings iMovie uses for iWeb (or any other export) is to open the exported movie in QuickTime Player and view the description there. Command-I (that's an eye) opens the Movie Info window which describes several features. This info lets you reverse engineer an export of your own, once you understand how a few things work.
One of the most important things to understand is that many exports allow you limit the Data Rate of the exported movie...how much data it uses per second. If you impose a limit, that limit is obeyed, no matter what your other settings are. (Note that the Data Rate includes both the video and audio.)
That Data Rate affects quality, of course. And the quality will vary depending on a number of factors, including the size of your movie. At a particular Data Rate, a 320x240 movie will tend to look better than 400x300.
The frame rate is crucial too. The higher the frame rate the more data is required.
The level of compression you decide on is always a compromise between the file size of the movie and quality. There is no hard and fast rule. A movie that downloads fine with broadband may be a real nuisance for a dial-up user.
Note that there are certain pre-sets offered in the popUp menus of the export dialog window. A good strategy is to experiment with those, then adjust their settings as needed, using the Options button.
When testing, export a single clip instead of the whole iMovie project. Lots faster. When that clip looks good at the data rate you want, export the entire project.
There's one more key variable that should be mentioned: the content of the video. Compressing some video is a lot easier than other video. Leaves rustling in the breeze is about as bad as it gets, while a still image is easy. So content affects quality too, given a particular Data Rate.

  • How can i keep zoomed in a certain size different sites without having to zoom in every time each site?

when i open Firefox, the size of the letters is small and i can't see well. i zoom in a certain size, but when i open a new site the letters return to their previous size.. how can i preserve a certain size off letters without having to do the same thing (zoom in ) every time i open a new site? the analysis at my laptop is 1920*1080..

The Firefox [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Page+Zoom Page Zoom] feature does a domain by domain level of saving the users preferred zoom level settings, there is no default Page Zoom level setting in Firefox, as with some other browsers.
Try the Default FullZoom Level extension: <br />

  • I get the error message in QuickTime "operation stopped the operation is not supported for this media" most times when I try and export an .AVI file as something else (.m4v). I have not touched the file in any way (no trimming, clipping or other editing)

I get the error message in QuickTime "operation stopped the operation is not supported for this media" most times when I try and export an .AVI file as something else (e.g. .m4v). I have not touched the file in any way (no trimming, clipping or other editing), all I want QuickTime to do is export the file in a compressed format. Bizzarely, if I shutdown and open QuickTime many times I can occasionally export a clip as another format (maybe one in 10 times). I have seen that other users have had a similar problem after clipping files in QuickTime but this seems to be a slightly different bug in that all I do is open the file and then try and export the file as is - either way, this is a very annoying bug

@Z_B-B, thank you for taking the time to respond to my cry for help. However, the link you supplied does not address the problem: I am not trying to export from Final Cut Pro to QuickTime, I am trying to export from QuickTime to the rest of the world (like people's iPhones and Ipads) in .m4v format (so I am not emailing my freinds such huge files).
If I were to spend hundreds of Dollars on a copy of Final Pro I could export directly from there and not have to bother with QuickTime, but I do not take enough video clips to justify the cost. I must say that I never had any of these problems before I decided to switch from Snow Leopard to Mountai Lion.

  • Why is "Export Video" greyed out? I need to export an AVI (PP2.0)

Yes, I'm still on PP 2.0. I've never seen this until today where Premiere won't allow me to export my AVI with video as Microsoft DV AVI. It will if I switch it to Microsoft AVI. (See screen print image.)
I've re-booted, I've tried importing the settings that I had previously saved for times like this. Still nothing. When I open ANY project, now, I have the same issue. Any ideas?
I remember with an old version of Premiere when something quarky like this happened we'd have to delete the prefs and then re-open the project for the prefs to reset. Is there something like that for this?

Problem solved. In the past, I have actually had Video mistakenly uncheck and rendered out AVI's that were audio only. (I only work with DV AVI's, although it's entirely possible a setting got switched to the non-DV.) So this time I simply panicked when I saw it grayed out and don't ever remember it being like that. Hunt, you are right that even though it was grayed out, it was still checked, so I did a test movie and the video IS there. I'm a bit embarrassed that I didn't try this sooner. I simply panicked.  Thanks guys!
