I want to sync a single album without erasing existing playlist

i have an ipod classic with a playlist i don't want to lose (no backups). still i want to add another album to the playlist. how do i do that? thanx

Do you not have the playlist in your iTunes library?
Do you manually manage your iPod?
If so, can't you simply drag & drop the album onto the playlist on the iPod directly?

  • Syncing and single album rather than my entire itunes library.

I have an album I would like to move to my iphone. It is on a different computer than I normally use. I can link my iphone up but if I choose to sync with it, it will remove everything I have added from my other computer. I just want to add a single album, I don't want to sync with this second machine.
Is there a way to simply create a playlist on the second computer and then only sync that playlist without it removing everything else I already have on the phone?
    thanks,
    ryan

Man that is just crazy. How many of us have a PC for a work computer and a Mac at home. Obviously most people have music on both. Now, you are saying I can only pull music from one or the other. More so, I have two Macs and three PCs and due to HD space, etc... I don't want to keep all of my music on one machine. The fact that I can only bring music from one PC to another at any given time means I am going to have to setup a home network and a shared music directory so that all of my itunes can have the same files. I'll prbably need to go out and buy a huge HD to hold all of the music in a unified location. This is pretty lame since I can take my ipod anywhere and hook it to any machine and drag the files I want right onto it. That is a much preferable method. It is almost hard to believe they would have made this so restrictive. This phone is so cool and yet has so many of these potholes.

Syncing shouldn't trouch you photos unless you have photos in a Photo Library album.  These would be photos that were synced to your phone from your computer.  If you do have any, you'll need to use an app like PhotoSync to transfer them to your computer prior to syncing.
If you prefer to backup your camera roll photos prior to syncing, open iTunes and go to Preferences>Devices and check "Prevent...from syncing automatically".  Then connect your phone to your computer and import them as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.
Then, to minimize data loss, follow the steps in this user tip: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141.  To follow the steps, first open iTunes and go to View>Show Sidebar.  Also, Transfer Purchases is now located in File>Devices.

iTunes is a mess! It couldn't find it's own libraries and I was forced to create a new one. Now I don't know where my music is or if any's missing.

    How crap is that?
    It's not crap at all.
It's not that simple. For example, I've 3500 songs on my MacBook but don't want them all on my phone, so I have to manually select each song again???
There has to be a solution.
Why not simply make a playlist with the songs you want on the iPhone?
and maintain a current backup of your computer.

  • I just bought a new computer, how can I start syncing with this computer without erasing everything already on my iphone?

I just bought a new computer, how can I start syncing with this computer without erasing everything already on my iphone?
Everytime I try to use the option sync manual it wants me to erase everything.
    Please help

The iPhone can be synced to one and only one computer at a time. Before you "marry" it to your new computer, be sure your new computer contains all the old computer's information. When you sync the iPhone to a new computer, it will be erased first. Then, whatever is on your iTunes Library will be synced to the iPhone.
Read: iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer
You can also copy its previous backup from the old computer to the new one, then "restore from backup".
    From iTunes: About iOS backups
Where iTunes backups are stored on your computer
The folder where your backup data are stored varies depending on the computer's operating system. Make sure the backup folder is included in your periodic data-backup routine.
iTunes places the backup files in the following places:
    Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Note: To quickly access the Application Data folder, click Start, and choose Run. Type %appdata% and click OK.
    Windows Vista and Windows 7: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Note: To quickly access the AppData folder, click Start. In the search bar, type %appdata% and press the Return key.

  • Adding to ipod from alternative iTunes catalogue without erasing existing

Is it possible to add music to ipod without erasing existing content that was synced from another PC.
So far i have been alerted that if i sync any new material from my list it will automatically erase what my daughter already has on her ipod.

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button:
    Using iPod with Multiple computers
    Managing content manually on iPod
    Syncing Music to iPod
You can also use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7.3 or later installed hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys together. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer. Once you are connected you can change to manual as above: iTunes - Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows
Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod

  • HT1660 How can I maintain two separate itunes accounts on one single device without erasing either set of data?

How can I maintain two separate itunes accounts on one single device (iPhone 4) without erasing either set of data when syncing with itunes?

    Hi,
Depends on what you trying to setup but for purchases, you can roll down at the very end of the iTunes/AppStore pages to logout of your current account and then login into a different one.  Then your purchase will be billded to this new account.  Everything will sync as you used to but in order to use the purchased content in iTunes or other devices, you will need to authorize them (you can have up to 5 devices authorized for an account).

  • How can I sync with this library without erasing my data?

The iPod "Sayira's iPod" is synced with another iTunes library. Do you want to erase this iPod and sync with this iTunes library? An iPod can be synced with only one iTunes library at a time. Erasing and syncing replaces the contents of this iPod with the contents of this iTunes library.
So, okay, here's my story: My laptop caught a virus, so i sent it to this guy who fixes computers, now that my laptop is fixed, everything is deleted from it. I didn't really mind this too much, but anyway I redownloaded iTunes to my new hardrive and then it said the following (posted above). My question is, how can i sync with this new library without erasing any data from my apps (such as games, photos, videos, music)? I REALLY don't want to lose this data!

    - Transffer iTunes purchases to the computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
    - Transfer other music by using a third-party program like one of those discussed here.
    Copy music
    - Connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up
    - Restore the IPod from that backup
Note that the backup that iTunes makes does no include symec media like apps and music.

  • How to sync in new laptop without loosing existing data in ipad 2?

Hi I just got new laptop and after connecting my existing ipad 2, it is hsowing message taht old library will get erased, if I countine. I do not want to loose all earlier data. How do I do ?

    Copy from this discussion:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/11527071#11527071
    1) Without connecting your iPad to your laptop, start iTunes. Click on Edit. Click on Preferences. Click on Devices. Check the box next to "Prevent your iPod etc. from automatically syncing." Click OK.
    2) Now connect your iPad to your laptop and start iTunes.
    3) When iTunes starts, right click on your iPad under Devices in the left column. Select Transfer purchases etc.
    4) After it finishes transferring all your apps to your new laptop, right click on your iPad and select Backup your iPad.
    5) After it finishes backing up your iPad, right click on your iPad and select Restore etc.
    6) After it finishes restoring, left click on your iPad , then click on the Apps tab on top, and check the box next to Sync Apps, then click on Apply below.
If everything on your iPad looks good after the sync, go back and click on Edit / Preferences / Devices and UN-check the box next to Prevent your iPod etc. The only other thing you may want to check is if your contacts, bookmarks, etc. are syncing correctly now. If not, go to the Info tab after connecting and make sure you indicate which features you want to sync with what sources.
    That should do it.

  • IPhone 4G sync with new pc without erasing

    Hi,
I want to know how can I sync my iPhone 4G with a new PC without "erase and sync" the library?

  • How can i add songs to a family members ipod without erasing existing songs

How can i add songs to a family members ipod without erasing her existing song list.

For future reference, since I came here for the same reason, I'd like to add to the solution.  The link was not complete in explaining how to, but then again I'll just trying to attempt to fill in the gap.
After opening iTunes, on the upper left hand side is a small icon with an arrow pointing down. Click on the arrow and a menu pops out.  Click on "Show Menu Bar."  On the new bar(Older iTunes File, Edit, View, Controls, etc. bar at the top).  Click on View and then Show Side Bar.  There you can just click and drag new songs into your iDevice without any problems... hopefully...
Seriously, this helped me, so if Apple finds a way to not allow me to do this simple task of adding purchased songs into my idevices from another computer, I'll have to resort to other means.
The one idevice that's having trouble with is my iShuffle(2nd).

When I first plugged it into my computer, I got a message saying it knew it wasn't my ipod and it asked me if I wanted to erase my playlist (or something like that). I chose "no". Do I need to create another account? How do I proceed so that I can set up this second ipod? Please help!

  • How to Upgrade Snow Leopard Server without erasing existing 10.5.8 settings

    Hi,
    Please Help,
How do I upgrade my MAC Leopard 10.5.8 Server to MAC Snow Leopard 10.6 Server without erasing (deleting) any server settings (running services) and without erasing my existing workgroup manager (workgroup accounts).
    Please help.
    Thanks,

XServe Mac OS X (10.5.8) Imac

The following is what we did on a server we are testing to move to 10.6:
    -Back up your existing server.
-Make sure your back up will run if you need it.
-Insert the disk and install 10.6. (I did this on the backup since I was planning to have the server still running 10.5 for a while. I imagine you could upgrade either copy.)
It appears that if you already have a 10.5.x OS on the drive you install to, the files are, as you said, "upgraded" to 10.6. Settings, services and users are also "upgraded" during the install to 10.6 formatting as needed by the new OS.
We then turned the server on and accessed and used our services as we had in the past with the users we had set in the past.
