I want to update the OS of the Macbook Pro I bought today to Lion, but at "purchase date" I can only choose 2011. Now what?

Sorry but I don't completely understand your question or what you are trying to do.
If you purchase a new MBP Today, Jan 3 2012, it should already have OS X Lion 10.7.x installed on it.
Only some left over early 2011 model that stores may have had sitting around would of come with Snow Leopard 10.6.8. Or even if you bought a Reburbished model from Apple it would of still came from them with Lion.
So my questions are.
1) Did you buy this new from a authorized Apple store or reseller?
2) If not new was it purchased from an authorized Apple store or reseller?
3) To my knowledge when trying to do updates to the OS there is no check of purchase date. So what exactly are you doing that asks for a purchase date?
If new then just use the Software Updates in the Apple Logo menu item.
If not new and it originally came with Snow Leopard or Leopard you will have to buy OS X Lion at the Online Apple Store. If that is the case then nyou need to put in the original date the unit was purchased NEW and or manufactured. That way the Online Apple Store can tell if Lion will function on that model properly.

Was your iPod associated with a different mac or pc previously is all. And was it backed up or sync'd on this mac with iTunes previously.

You only bought it four months ago, so it's still under warrantly.
Call Applecare or call your nearest Applestore to make an appointment. Tell them your mac has serious technical issues, describe them shortly.

  • When is Apple updating the MacBook Pro?

Let me start out by saying I know this is not an actual technical issue so I apologize for posting this question on this type of server, I just didn't know where else to ask so thank you to whoever can help.
I love Apple products and think they just work so amazingly and want to buy my first MacBook Pro. I am a college student and don't have a lot of money to spend on a new computer. I understand that MacBook Pros have recently been upgraded and I am planning on getting the cheaper 15 inch model, however, my friend told me that he heard Apple is planning on upgrading the MacBook Pro's by the end of the summer. I know that technology moves fast and things get outdated quickly but I would rather not buy one now only to find out that if I waited a month or two I could have gotten a much nicer version of the computer.
If anybody knows what the deal is as far as when the next line of MacBook Pros are supposed to come out I would appreciate it very much.
    Thanks

The instant Apple releases a new line of machines, they're already planning the next release.  They don't tell anyone when the next release will be...  it's like an extra special surprise to everyone!    So, your best bet is to buy what you need when you need it, and don't spend too much time worrying about what's coming next.
Since you're buying for college, it will probably be best for you to wait for Apple's inevitable back to school deal... which, in the past, has involved buying a Mac at the educational price and getting an iPod for free (with a rebate).  I got my iPod Touch that way, back when I was still teaching.  $250 iPod, totally free!

  • Updated the macbook pro and lost all my documents!!

I can't find any of my files and documents!!! Are they still on here, how do I recover them??!!
    PLEASE HELP ASAP!!!!
    ALL MY ESSAYS ARE GONE

More detail please, what did you update, the entire operating system upgraded from a earlier verison, (like 10.6 to 10.8) or did you perform a Software Update, or wiped your drive and updated or what?
If you can't figure it out, then stop what your doing, shutdown and seek the local services of a PC/Mac tech for data recovery options.
Next time make backups of your data off the machine.

  • Updating the MacBook pro line: how does Apple usually do it?

Hi everyone, I'm planning to buy a MacBook pro and I need your help.
I was wondering if a new pro could be presented in the next months (due to the passage to face time in all Mac products). My questions: has every MacBook updates been presented during a public apple event?
I mean: could apple decide to update the pro line simply modifying it on the store, or it usually does it only organizing a public event? My memory is not so good so I ask if you remember what is the habit in this case, considering that the pro line has been updated many times but I don't remember if presented in a public event or not.

-Transfer iTunes purchases to the compuer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
    - Transfer other music by using a third-party program like one of those discusssed here:
    Copy music
    - Connect the Ipd to the computer and make a backup by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up
    - Restore the iPod from that backup
Note that the backup that iTunes makes does not contain synced media like apps and music.

  • Can i make an appointment for update the macbook pro

Hi I use to have a macbook I brought from China that when i came to US i want to instal for new edition in the store, dose i have pay any fee for that? if not, i want to make an appointment for instal it. thanks.

You can buy the upgrade in the store using their wireless network (normal upgrade fee would apply--$19.99 US). I'm not sure if you could use a wired connection.
Using the wireless would not require an appointment, but you could make one with the Genius bar to have them help you.

  • Why I chose the MacBook over the MacBook Pro

This year I had a choice between the MacBook and MacBook Pro and pricing aside, chose the MacBook instead. Like many who have grappled with this decision I thought I'd share my thoughts on why I ultimately went with a MacBook:
    1. Nearly identical processing power between the two. Most of the time larger means better/faster, but apple has nearly identical hardware so in this case larger just means larger.
    2. I don't play many games or require a dedicated graphics card. A lot of people will say the graphics card on the MacBook Pro is far better, and in some sense it is, but the MacBook still has a decent card and the changes for someone not doing a ton of video work are non-existence. Plus, as I tell people who really want to play a lot of games, you should get a cheap pc desktop since the cards are worlds better than anything Apple sells.
    3. Larger (better?) keyboard. I contend the keyboard is better although many would argue. Either way you see it the keyboard is larger and it is ridiculous that a 13" laptop has a larger keyboard than a 15" and 17". Apple really needs to update the casing for keyboards on the MacBook Pro's that actually use the space given. This was a big point for me since I cant stand the cramp keyboard of the MacBook Pro.
    4. Lighter/Compact. I must say small size means you can take it almost anywhere easily. I can't imagine pulling out a 17" MacBook Pro on an airplane.
    5. Harddrive swap and casing. While many are attached to the titanium design of the MacBook Pro (not me) the MacBook casing is amazing in its ability to swap in new drives and memory. This is another advantage I can't imagine why apple hasn't added to the other models.
    6. Price. Now, originally I did say I chose them pricing aside, and I did. I could have gotten either, but at the end of the day its nice to know I saved $1000 and I travel comfortably knowing that if someone steals my laptop on a trip or it breaks, I won't have to sell a lung to get a new one.
I think if Apple finally updates the MacBook Pro casing with some of the features of the MacBook and makes a real difference in hardware between the processors I might have changed my mine, but I'm am so glad I purchased the smaller more compact MacBook than its counterpart the MacBook Pro.

"I think if Apple finally updates the MacBook Pro casing with some of the features of the MacBook and makes a real difference in hardware between the processors I might have changed my mine, but I'm am so glad I purchased the smaller more compact MacBook than its counterpart the MacBook Pro."
I like the casing on the MacBook better too and wish the MBP had that same rugged one. The aluminum, or whatever they use on the MBP has always seemed sort of frail to me, with wobbly lid closings and poor fits of the battery case, etc.
But I did go for the MBP. The main point for me? The higher screen resolution. I would have had a resolution DROP going for the MB and instead I got a resolution INCREASE going to the MBP.
In fact, the screen resolution of the MBP is the same as that on my 20" iMac G5!
I guess different things are different priority for different users.

  • My Airport wireless is working for my two MacBook Pros and my daughter's iPod, but our iPad, Iphone and other iPod all say they need to set up an Airport Base Station but do not have the proper software.  I'm not sure what to do to remedy this situation.

My Airport wireless is working for my two MacBook Pros and my daughter's iPod, but our iPad, Iphone and other iPod all say they need to set up an Airport Base Station but do not have the proper software.  I'm not sure what to do to remedy this situation.

This might sound like a silly question, but are you sure the iOS devices (iPhone, iPad, iPod touch etc.) are still trying to connect to the same network from your own Airport router, as the MacBook Pros are? If you tap Settings on them, is the network name next to where it says Wi-Fi, the right one?
I've got a weird feeling that either in the past couple of days, a neighbour got an Airport device and hasn't set it up yet (causing your iOS devices to try to help), or that perhaps there's an issue with your Airport router and they're noticing it and trying to help out, while for whatever reason, Airport Utility isn't opening itself on the MacBook Pros like it normally should if there's a problem.
If you open Airport Utility on one of the MacBook Pros, does it report any problems with your Airport device, and can you view/edit the settings on it?
