I was udating my iphone 4 software on itunes, it got all the way to the end, my phone switched off then it said error could not download software and now my phone is frozen on the start screen????

Unplug it and let unit go dead. Then hold your Home button down and plug the USB power cord back in. iTunes should see it and then restore.

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

You have obviously not done what you think you have done.
You have tried to open a .pages document in TextEdit which can't read them.
If you are confused which program you are in look to the top left of the menu.
You can either drag the .pages file onto the Pages icon on the Dock, open it from within Pages' Open dialog, double click on it or right mouse click > open with.

So when you plug it into your computer, you're not getting a message in iTunes that it has discovered a phone in recovery mode?
Reboot both the computer and the phone and try again.

CANNOT install Adobe AIR, administrator error. could not update past .20 version

consistently receive following message:

I receive this message AS AN ADMINISTRATOR (only user on Netbook IS me, THE ADMIN). even in safe mode tried to update/install, same error. did NOT have this problem updating w/ previous versions (xxx.20 and earlier)
I contacted myself, as instructed by the error message, and the response was Adobe failed to properly check administrator privileges for versions after .20

Although you're getting a different error message, try the following user tip with that one:
"not a valid short file name" and "invalid character" install errors

HT4972 why won't my phone "restore"? I downloaded ios 5 and did not unplug my iphone. Toward the end it said error occurred, then said iphone cannot be restored. Now it has a pic of itunes and won't do anything. I can't even make a call, or get email.

The iPhone 3G does not support iOS5. The only way you could get iTunes to download that particular iOS is if you were attempting a hack. The lastest firmware for the 3G and the last one that it supports is 4.2.1.

I wanted my Avast! updates to be current. I have not run Avast! again. I just ran it about 1:30 AM local time. I got up from sleeping and just restarted my computer after looking at the summary from Avast! All I did was close Avast! and click "Restart" and re-entered my computer and opened 2 Firefox browsers and 2 Explorer browsers. One of the Firefox browsers said it needed to update which it attempted but then a window popped up that said Firefox could not update and I should do it manually. Well, the support document that you used to link here talks about restore error codes. Did you find the error code you received on that sheet? Do you have the latest version of iTunes loaded (v10.7) on the computer?

I deleted iTunes when it said "iTunes could not back up iPhone because the backup could not be saved on the computer"and now it wont let me install it again and keeps saying "itunes cannot be installed because the file cannot be found in the cabinet "

iTunes told me to delete my backup folder when I was having problems syncing my phone to my computer. After that it wouldn't work at all. I doubt that corrupt files are the problem. It is more likely a space or permissions issue. Is the hard-drive on which iTunes is stored close to capacity? Do you (or the particular user profile you have logged on with) have the requisite permissions to save to that drive?
Otherwise, do you get an error code? This might point us in the right direction.
