I18n in j2re-1_4_0-beta2-win-i.exe

I downloaded and installed j2re-1_4_0-beta2-win-i.exe
Because this is international version of jre, I expected to find i18n.jar file in it. I couldn't. Why is it so?

With 1.4, the localized data has moved. i18n.jar is now this:
jre\lib\ext\localedata.jar

  • Silent Install of j2re-1_4_2_03-windows-i586-p.exe ???

    I have tried to do a silent installtion of j2re-1_4_2_03-windows-i586-p.exe with this command line syntax :
    j2re-1_4_2_03-windows-i586-p.exe /S /v/qn"ADDLOCAL=ALL IEXPLORER=1 INSTALLDIR=C:\java\jre REBOOT=Suppress JAVAUPDATE=0 /L C:\temp\javainstall.log"
    The installation process starts what I could see in Task Manager a process called " j2re-1_4_2_03-w" starts but dissapear in 10 sec and the installation does not continue what I could see. No installation directory has been created and no log etc.
    Do anyone have any clue what could be the issue here, do I use wrong syntax etc ??
    We are going to use Sun Java runtime instead of Microsoft Java Virtual Machine, when that is going to be unsupported Sept 30 -04.

    The correct syntax for the command line should be
    j2re-1_4_2_03-windows-i586-p.exe /s /v"/qn ADDLOCAL=ALL IEXPLORER=1 INSTALLDIR=C:\java\jre REBOOT=Suppress JAVAUPDATE=0 /L C:\temp\javainstall.log"
    The first " (Quote) should be between the /v and the /qn without any spaces. There should be a space after the /qn and before any other parameters.

    Immediately upon installing j2re-1_4_2_04-windows-i586-p.exe, I get the "blue screen of death" on Windows 2000, indicating memory dump. Applications do not work subsequently that use j2re. Attempts to modify in reinstallation indicate errors in Windows installer. Don't know what to do.

  • WINE err:"wine cmd.exe /c echo '%ProgramFiles%' returned empty string"

    So as the tittle states WINE is throiwng this error:
    wine cmd.exe /c echo '%ProgramFiles%' returned empty string
    As for what might have caused it? probably the last system update which was performed a few days ago, my old prefix works fine but I have a habit of creating new prefixes for troublesome applications, or applications I am unsure of whether they will cause trouble or not.
    Hence I created a new prefix using:
    export WINEARCH=win32
    export WINEPREFIX=~/.problematic
    winecfg
    As for how wine is run, it's run as a normal, unprivileged, user.
    Oh and I also tried generating yet another prefix like this:
    $ WINEARCH=win32 WINEPREFIX=~/.problematic-new winetricks steam
    Executing w_do_call steam
    wine cmd.exe /c echo '%ProgramFiles%' returned empty string
    Didn't work either.
    I'm at loss, any suggestion on how to fix it?

    Wine cannot find the ncurses library (libncursesw.so.5).
    why is ncurses a dependency anyway? besides, wicd-curses works so this shouldn't be the case.
    Anyway, trying winetricks in the same prefix
    $ WINEARCH=win32 WINEPREFIX=~/testprefix winetricks steam
    Executing w_do_call steam
    wine cmd.exe /c echo '%ProgramFiles%' returned empty string
    Anyway, I expected notepad to work since it resides in %WINDOWS% not %ProgramFiles%
    Is there any registry key I can set for this? all my google searching says this can cause with a mismatch of wine versions but why would that happen?
    Either way checking wine --version outputs wine-1.7.20 which is the same as it was pre-update (when it still worked).

  • Wine - Wineboot.exe Runs When Launching Apps

    Anyone else experiencing 'wineboot.exe' starting and continuing to run whenever any Wine application is launched? I've never seen this behavior before (though it could have been going on for a little while without my noticing).
    I always thought 'wineboot.exe' was used to simulate Windows reboots, but I'm unclear now what it does or is doing. I have since read a little about it possibly having some functionality related to launching applications in the Startup folder, but I have no startup apps or services, and it seems if it were doing that, it would launch, perform its functions then terminate.
    The process can be killed without any ill effects on currently running Wine applications as far as I can tell.
    Is this a Wine bug, a package bug, or intended behavior? If intended, can it be turned off natively (without having to run a 'kill' script)?
    Thanks.
    PS
    Is it possible that this process was split off from wineserver in a recent Wine update? The only reason I ask is that 'wineserver' seems to use much less RAM than I remember it using. Probably wrong about that, though.

    I haven't spent a lot of time on this subject as I can't find much about it anyway, and I really didn't want to sign up with Google groups to seek answers, but for now it seems the issue is moot in the near-term anyway:
    http://groups.google.com/group/comp.emu … f8b03fc168
    [The run and runonce functionality] is causing a lot of problems, and so it has been disabled in the current git, and should be disabled in the next release of Wine. You can revert to the previous version of Wine while waiting for 0.9.54, or edit your registry and delete the Run and RunOnce keys.
    I wasn't really having issues with 'wineboot.exe' other than it wastes resources, but it looks like its gone for now. Hopefully, if and when they get other issues ironed out and try to re-implement it, it will run, do its job and exit.

  • Creating win 32 exe files from java class files

    Hi I am using windows 2000.
    I have developed a java swing gui application that has about 10 class files. I downloaded the microsoft sdk for java 4.0 for converting all my class files into a single .exe file. I used jexegen in this SDK to do this process. But when I double click the exe file, it just pops up and closes instantenously without showing my startup frame.
    Can anyone help ?

    There is no Microsoft solution for this until you get J#, change your program
    (J# is a little bit different that java but not much, it's closer to Java than C#)
    and then compile to Win32 .exe.
    For the refrence list of all Java to Native code compilers, check this page:
    http://www.geocities.com/marcoschmidt.geo/jcomp.html#native :
    Different from "normal" compilers (like javac or jikes), native compilers do not create bytecode files
    (.class) that are interpreted by a Java Virtual Machine but native executables (like .exe files on
    Windows). "How do I create an EXE from Java?" is a very frequently asked question in newsgroups
    like comp.lang.java.programmer, native compilers are the answer. Some native compilers are listed
    below, check them out.

    Hi,

    I am having the same problem. My users first download web start (not the beta) from http://java.sun.com/cgi-bin/javawebstart-platform.sh? (which forwards to the windows installer page for windows users). That goes fine, and installs java 1.3.1 and JWS. However, my app requires java 1.4.0, so Web Start tries to auto-install the upgrade and gets the error pasted below.
    It looks like Sun's installer JAR isn't signed? Any ideas?

    I believe this is because the JWS is trying to download a new JRE. This is because it cannot find a JRE as specified in the JNLP file. Make sure you have added all your JRE's in the JWS application managers preferences and that you have the JRE specifed in the JNLP file. If you have added all your JRE's to the JWS preferences, you can circumvent the bug by setting proper <j2se version> tags. Add a tag for every major JRE that can run your app. For example, if your app needs minimum 1.3, but also works with 1.4, then write this in your JNLP file:
    <resources>
      <j2se version="1.4"/>
      <j2se version="1.3"/>
      <jar href="MyApp.jar"/>
    </resources>I encountered the same problem like you are having when I ommitted the <j2se version="1.4"/> and thought that <j2se version="1.3+"/> was enough.

  • Simultaneous installation J2RE 1.4.2 and 5.0 on Win XP system

    I have to install Java J2RE on a Win XP Home system.
    There is a commercial IE browser application that requires J2RE 1.4.2_03 and won't run with other Java versions (no update in sight). In particular, it doesn't work with J2RE 5.0. On the other hand, I'd like have J2RE 5.0 for other applications.
    I know that (in principle) I can install multiple versions of Sun Java on a PC. However, is it possible to choose from several installed versions (1.4.2_03 and 5.0)? I could't find the older version as an IE option ("use Sun Java 1.4.2_03") when the more recent Java version was installed. I had to completely remove J2RE 5.0 to use the IE browser application again.
    I'd like to have Windows use the older version (1.4.2_03) for the IE and the new version (5.0) for all other browsers and applications. Is this possible?
    Thanks.

    The instructions for resolving this are here:

  • Why j2re-1_4_1 smaller than j2re-1_4_0_02 (win)?

    Hi,
    I just wonder why j2re-1_4_1-windows-i586-i.exe (9,931,816 bytes) is smaller than the older j2re-1_4_0_02-windows-i586-i.exe (12,233,328 bytes)? Is ther some stripped functionallity or is it just a more compact installation?
    currios

    I think it's a result of the developers continually trying to optimize the size of just about everything in Java.

  • Problems with j2re and j2sdk's j2re

    OK I know that subject doesn't make much sense, but this is rather hard to explain.
    Has anyone else had any issues with the the Java2 1.4 SDK's jre (The software dev kit along with the jre) and just the 1.4 jre installation files? Basically it's this:
    j2re-1_4_0-win.exe - JRE ONLY
    j2sdk-1_4_0-win.exe - SDK + JRE
    Even though both of these files install the same version of the jre, I'm thinking they are different in some way (either a bug or on purpose I don't know).
    I've been developing some ESRI MapOjects Java applications and ran into this issue when making an applet.
    Installing the jre with j2sdk-1_4_0-win.exe will make the applet work, but just installing the jre itself (j2re-1_4_0-win.exe - the one your web browser will make you d/l if you don't have jre 1.4) will make the applet unworkable.
    The particular problem is with file access. I download the files to the local machine then use them later on in the program. The sdk-jre doesn't have a problem with this, but the jre only version does for some reason. Even after downloading the files and checking if they exist, are readable, and are writable (all three returned true) it still treats the files as nonexistant.
    Obviously this is very puzzling and was wondering if anyone else has had something like this happen to them, and if not maybe Sun should look into this since this has really made my applet pointless (what's the point of using an applet if you have to d/l a 30+ meg file in order to run it vs the 9 meg file that won't run it :) ).
    Not that my applet is Sun's major concern, :) but if this becomes a reocurring problem with others then it should be investigated.
    To answer the first question if any will arise in this thread, yes my applet is digitally signed and it's not just my computer. I have this happen on four other computers until I saw the pattern and installed the sdk on them. Then the applet started to work.

    There is the possibility of differences between the various runtimes, but I can't see them causing the type of problem you note.
    A separately d/l'd JRE can be either an "English-only" version or an "International" version. (The 2 installed as part of the SDK are the "International" version.)
    Both JRE's that are installed as part of the SDK have 2 separate bytecode-to-native compiler binaries - Client and Server versions, selectable via java.exe options. A separately d/l'd JRE has only the Client binary (both English-only and International versions).
    Using the current Plugins, it's not necessary to use the HTML converter (quoted from Sun):
    "Beginning with J2SE 1.3.1_01a, Java Plug-in supports <applet> tags for launching applets and for initiating autodownload of the JRE/Java Plug-in on Microsoft Windows platforms. For more information, see Java Plug-in Developer Documentation"
    I'm of the opinion that some environment difference - classpath, Plugin settings, etc. is causing the difference between runtimes.

Then you should choose "give up",and try to download jre1.4 again.Maybe The bad setup at frist time had not release the setup program of OS,which is the reason.
