I agree, for IBCM you need SSL.
But as far as i know your Update Point isn't forced to run on SSL (8531) unless you tick your Update point with "Require SSL" within your update point configuration - which ofcourse is the idael configuration.
And if that's the case it's running 8530.
That's true, but for IBCM, as Peter pointed out HTTPS is required. Thus, if you don't configure your WSUS instance to run using SSL, I doubt that it will work simply because the client agent will be "smart" enough to see that you don't have an SSL
capable WSUS instance and thus won't configure the WUA to use the non-SSL WSUS instance. I can't say I've tested this though, so it's possible that it works, but I doubt it.

WildCard Certificate for IBCM - SCCM 2012

Hi,
I have a Primary Site at the DataCenter. There are 2 MP's installed there.
One MP I would like to publish using ISA/TMG for Internet Based Client Management. Can I use a wild card certificate on ISA Server for the same? The MP would have Local Cert in IIS.
Does SCCM 2012 support wild card certificate?

My assumption was that you had purchased a wildcard cert and thus were purchasing your certs as you made no mention of an internal PKI.
What happens at your ISA box is between the client OS and ISA and really has nothing to do with ConfigMgr. So, although I haven't tried it, it should work. If you have an internal PKI though, why aren't you just issuing a non-wildcard cert to the ISA?

IBCM Migrating existing SCCM 2012 Clients

Hi, We have in our current environment 120,000 endpoints configured on CAS with 3 Primary sites. All the clients are currently setup for SCCM 2012.
We started new project to introduce IBCM in the environment and here is the question on the clients, what is needed to setup the existing clients for IBCM, so basically when connected on the "Intranet" they will use infrastructure on the Intranet
and when connected to the "Internet" they would use our infrastructure we installed in the DMZ with Public DNS entries etc....
what I like to understand is what is needed on the existing clients to configure them to be IBCM aware.
I've done some testing in my Dev environment and managed to configure client using https and PKI Certs.
Few questions on this
New Client Installation parameters
currently we have installed all our clients using following command line "/Service SMSSITECODE=AUTO" I've left out the other parameters but basically the current clients are not IBCM aware
New install command I'm using: /Service /UsePKICert SMSSITECODE=<SiteCode> CCMHOSTNAME=<FQDN MP>. With this command line the client gets installed on the Intranet I can see it does recognize the Certificate, however when I switch
over to the internet, checking control panel applet it's still saying "Client Certificate: Self-signed" ==> Would this not switch to PKI? to be clear for my Intranet I don't use https but just http and I would like to keep it that way.
I've tried using the script I found on TechNet and that does set the Internet MP, but checking the properties of the client it still shows "Client Certificate: Self-signed", even when connected on the Internet.

Background is R2, but clients are not yet upgraded (SCCM 2012 SP1), they will be upgraded aug-sept time frame, using the built-in upgrade process, obviously after doing our testing :-)

==> How is the client then going to find his Internet Management Point? I know the clients gets MP List every 25 hours I assume that would include the Internet MP's, is that the way the client will find the internet mp?
Checking the logs on 1 client I can see in "ClientLocation.log"
               Client is internet
               Current internet Management point is <empty>
if I check the control panel applet - "Network", the Internet MP is empty for that particular client.
I will have full infrastructure available in DMZ, currently doing my testing in DEV environment, have to be creative in faking Intranet/Internet using 2 separate networks
Follow-up question.
If I understand you correctly, I don't have to change anything on the installation params that I'm currently using. This assumes clients have valid certificates and can access CRL.

SCCM 2007 Migration to SCCM 2012

Secondary vs. DP is a subjective call based on two factors: client count and available bandwidth. More clients and/or less bandwidths means secondary site, less clients and/or more bandwidth means DP. Both use a server OS so there's really no cost difference, just some added complexity for a secondary site. Without knowing the bandwidth, no way for me to be able to say one way or the other.
As for IBCM, correct, it's no a primary site server, it's simply a site system that typically hosts an MP, DP, and SUP. The App Catalog Website Point is also applicable.
Are you planning on managing legacy mobile devices or Mac OSX? If not, the Enrollment Proxy Point is not needed -- it's not applicable to IBCM anyway to my knowledge.
Also, the FSP must be on a separate site system so that clients can communicate with it via HTTP.
I have for now two sites:
- 25,000 Desktops on one site
- 1,500 Servers on the second site
in SCCM 2007 I had three sites: One Parent doing the reporting and two child sites handling the inventory, distribution, etc... (No SUP do far)
I have on each child sites 1 DP.
What should be changed for SCCM 2012?
What is "More Clients" or "Less Clients" ?
"More Bandwidth" or "Less Bandwidth"?

Hello Dom,
If you have Two Primary servers you may need to plan for a CAS (Central administration site), in SCCM 2012 when you have more than one primary server you need a CAS to connect them. But remember the CAS does not
process any client data, DPs nor MPs (hardware nor software inventory), and bear in mind that a primary stand-alone can support up to 100,000 clients, and in SCCM 2012 the big idea is to simplify the hierarchy. So if you have a primary site you can manage
a lot of clients, and you can separate them in your case in boundaries, boundaries in 2012 do two things: Site assignment and content lookup, but they only work with boundary groups, in which you set the limits in the boundary, and latter associate it with
a boundary group.
You can then just have a primary server and remote DPs, and decide how the clients will look for content in the DPs with the boundaries and boundary groups. The bandwidth needs to be really important about sending
packages between sites, or if the boundaries are not configured properly the clients can end up looking for content where it should not. Also don’t forget about fallback packages and content, because DPs and packages can be set as fallback, so if clients
cannot find in a local DP they will search those packages.

Best Strategy for Managing Laptops in a Mixed InTune / SCCM 2012 World

We're interested in leveraging Intune to help secure and update our roaming laptop users. We have a group of domain-joined laptops that spend a good deal of time off the company network. We thought we could use Intune to make sure these machines stay updated
and safe while off the network. I understand that we should make sure the SCCM 2012 client does not get installed on any machine that has the Intune client. Will connecting and logging into our domain cause any issues for these clients that anyone can see?

I'm glad that it should work in our instance. Our office just bought some Office 365 licenses as well as Intune. We thought Intune could solve our issue of roaming laptops. We just recently came into some laptops that would be our first, out-of-the-office
work systems that we want to manage. The Microsoft folks are assuring us this is the way to go for this particular instance. We haven't had a need to use IBCM or DirectAccess up to this point. We've run into issues with our County firewall folks that
won't let us run DirectAccess as we do have a Juniper VPN that takes care of our remote issues. As for IBCM, we'll have to look a bit deeper into that and see if it has better features for us than Intune does. We don't have any mobile management requirements
in the near future so I'm left wondering why the heck are management even bought the licenses.

How to enable SCCM 2012 clients to get Windows Updates through SSL VPN

I would like my SCCM 2012 client laptops to get Windows Updates through SSL VPN.
I suppose I need to add VPN Subnet in my boundary and boundary group.
What other setting I need to enable?
At this moment, on the 'Software Update Point Component Properties' "Allow intranet-only client connections" radio button is active. Do I neeed to select "Allow both intranet and internet client connections" and Enable SSL communications
for the WSUS server?
or are there something else I need to check?

No, a VPN client is no different than a client connected internally as far as the network is concerned and as far as ConfigMgr is concerned there is no way to explicitly know any different. Internet clients literally are those that connect via the Internet
using IBCM.

SCCM 2012, Intune and Windows OS Support

I am just trying to confirm what I believe I am reading about Microsoft OS Support for Windows Intune when integrated with SCCM 2012 R2...
What I believe to be the case:
Windows RT, Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1 all have the ability to enroll via OMA-DM, thus can be managed by SCCM.
Down-level OS's such as XP SP3, Vista, and Windows 7 require the Intune Client to be installed, thus can only be managed by a standalone Intune subscription?
Can anyone confirm this?

More or less correct.
Generally, even for Win 8.1 and WinRT, IBCM or DirectAccess are a better choice than OMA-DM as it can only enable management of a limited subset of features. Two important ones cannot be: software updates and endpoint protection.
As you've seen (based on your other thread), you can still use the Intune subscription that is connected to your ConfigMgr site to manage devices with the Intune client installed. Effectively, there are two halves of the Intune subscription, the full client
management half and MDM half which can be controlled by Intune or ConfigMgr. Just because the MDM half is controlled by ConfigMgr does not technically preclude you from still utilizing the full client management half. That's not at all saying you should do
this though, but you certainly could.

Adobe Creative Cloud Enterprise Deployment Issues using SCCM 2012 R2

Hi,
I have been trying to deploy Adobe Creative Cloud Enterprise to Windows 8.1 machines that are identical, using SCCM 2012 R2.
The Adobe package seems fine, because it seems to deploy successfully to some machines. And SCCM 2012 R2 has been configured correctly, as I can deploy other software using it, and again, it deploys Adobe CC successfully to some of the machines.
I have tried comparing the package that is downloaded on the test machine/client machine, with the original package on the distribution point, using Beyond Compare, and there are no differences.
I have contacted Adobe Enterprise Support, and they asked me to send to them log files from Event Viewer, the msi installer, and other Adobe logs, from the machine that failed the deployment. However, after Adobe studying them, they told me that they could not identify any problems... Strange, because I could have sworn that I saw error 1603 pop up over 20 times on different machines indicating that the 'Set-up.dat' file had a problem with it.
After all the testing on over 20 identical machines (same hardware/same software), using different configurations on SCCM 2012 R2 and the client machines, I still can't seem to have a reliable solution to deploying Adobe CC.
The fact that it deploys successfully on one machine and fails on another, or sometimes deploy to two machines and fail on another (simultaneously), is something that I don't understand.
Another thing is that, if I retry the deployment 10-15 times after it failed the first time, it might go through...
Adobe Enterprise Support asked me if they could remote into a machine that failed the deployment to have a look at it and I agreed to that option, but it seems like my issue has been ignored because they never got back to me.
Has anyone had this kind of problem or anything similar before?
I need to be able to deploy this remotely to 100+ machines. So installing manually is not an option.
Any help is appreciated.

We seem to be having a very similar issue. Our installs would randomly fail with error code 1603 and an error message about a fault in Set-up.dat. Failure rate was near 95% on our 900 machines. Adobe Support and Karl having been looking into our issues but so far no solution has been found.
Having done a lot of investigating we've managed to deploy our package using a schedule task running as a domain admin. This is a nasty solution and we don't intend on using this permanently, but we needed to get the package out.

Indicates it can't find the Media_db. We noticed that the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\caps doesn't get created on the machines were the install fails, so error message is correct in that there isn't a Media_db.db. Sysinterals Process Monitor seems to show that the setup tried to create the folder/files but they don't actually get created. Copying a Media_db into the folder from another machine seems to allow the installation to almost finish, but unsurprisingly you end up with problems later on.

Satellite Z930-14F - cannot install Win 8.1 from SCCM 2012 R2 environment

Dear all,
Sattelite Z series laptops cannot install OS (win 8.1) from our SCCM 2012 R2 environment.
Either no installation is starting, or pxe boot aborted error is showed.
The environment is used to successfully install OS (win 8.1) on different other vendor computers (dell) and virtual machines (hyper-v and vmware).
I've tried both UEFI and CMS boot options and tried to switch off the secure boot. Please advice.
Also, i've read about the "SCCM installation package for Toshiba". Will it help in my situation or is it just driver packages for SCCM?

I dont have much experience using such SCCM drive package but it definitely compatible with the Toshiba business notebooks. The Satellite / Portege Z930 belong to the business range and I think the package should be compatible.
This package seems to be for all IT administrators who manage devices on the corporate network with SCCM 2012 R2. Toshiba offers with the new Toshiba SCCM package a solution to integrate other notebook into an existing IT infrastructure quickly and smoothly and all Toshiba Driver and application packages and a demonstration task sequence are integrated.
However, it seems that you could get more details about this package directly from Toshiba [email protected]
By the way: The Win 8.1 installation requires the UEFI mode (in case the UEFI BIOS is available). But booting from another, external source requires the disabled secure boot option.
So maybe you should use the UEFI mode but should disable the secure boot option in order to boot from LAN.

SCCM 2012 R2 site server client installation error: The client version 5.00.7958.1000 does not match the MP version 5.00.7804.1000.

When I try to install the client on the site server itself it gives me this error message and fails the ccmsetup. I only have this on the site server. Clients to other servers and computers are pushed fine. If I check the version of the MP it says 5.00.7958.1000
in ADSI. I removed the MP object in CN=System, CN=System Management. Waited for it to be regenerated automatically by SCCM but the installation doesn't work still.
I tried to install with several methods including directly from ccmsetup.exe in ccmsetup folder, pushing by sccm itself, running from commandline, ...
I run SCCM 2012 R2 on Windows Server 2008 R2 and the database on SQL 2008 on Server 2008 R2

I agree with Idan. You can easily remove the Management Point Site System role and add it again with no adverse effect. This should solve your problem.

SCCM 2012 SP1 - Software Center appears twice in Start Menu

Hi guys,
i just finished implementing a fresh SCCM 2012 SP1 Installation for a customer. The whole OSD works like a charm (except some issues with the latest Windows updates breaking the whole OSD, will open a separate thread for this soon), but after the deployment
the Software Center is appearing twice in the Start Menu (We're using Win7 Enterprise SP1 x86 English with 5 integrated language packs). I first thought this has something to do with the integrated language packs, but both Start Menu entries
are always in the same language.
The strange Thing is, that one entry for the SCCM Software Center is called "Software Center" and the other one "SoftwareCenter" (without a space). We configured 2 Client policies, one with EP-enabled and one without EP. We
deployed the Client Settings to different collections so i don't think that this is causing the Problem?Do you guys have any idea why this is Happening?
Has anyone ever seen this? See a screenshot below:

I don't think it is related to the upgrade to SP1.I think it might be a General issue in SP1. I started with a fresh SCCM 2012 SP1 Installation and i also have 2 Software Center entries in my start menu. If i check the shortcut i can see that one shortcut
was created when i captured my base Image, the other one was created during the Install OS Task Sequence.

SCCM 2012 RTM to SP1 Upgrade - Windows ADK 8.1

Hello,
I am after some advice. We have two physical locations containing a single SCCM 2012 primary site server in one location and distribution point server in the other location.
Both servers are also configured as DHCP Servers and DHCP scope options have been configured correctly to allow both DHCP and Windows Deployment Services to co-exist.
OSD was working fine, until I upgraded the primary site server to SCCM 2012 SP1. During the upgrade process, I installed Windows ADK 8.1 which would appear is not supported however no errors were reported during the upgrade process.
Issues I have encountered;
- I can no longer PXE boot with the following error 'PXE-E55: ProxyDHCP service did not reply to request on port 4011'
- The x:\remoteInstall\Boot\Fonts directory is empty suggesting the boots images were not finalised.
- When updating the distribution points with the boot images i get the following error via the wizard;
• The SMS Provider reported an error.: ConfigMgr Error Object:
instance of SMS_ExtendedStatus

• ErrorCode = 2152205056;

Failed to read ADK installation root registry value
I am looking for some advice on the best way to rectify this issue. Options I am considering are as follows, however I am unsure of the outcome should I attempt these;
1 - Upgrade to SCCM 2012 R2 which supports ADK 8.1
2 - Uninstall Windows ADK 8.1, install 8.0
3 - Attempt to restore back to SCCM 2012 RTM using file system backups and SCCM backups.
Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

The configMgr 2012 environment is primarily used for OSD, and software updates for Servers only.
I have followed Peter’ advice, and uninstalled WADK 8.1 and installed 8.0 and I am currently investigating errors within the SMSPXE.log, and I have seen other posts elsewhere within these forums
with the same issue with suggested solutions which I shall investigate.
With regards to DHCP on the ConfigMgr site servers – I could not agree with you more.
Unfortunately, my company use a third party DHCP solution which was incapable of supporting PXE-boot for OSD.
We were therefore required to have a separate Microsoft DHCP solution on the site servers to by-pass this issue.
The intention is to upgrade to Configmgr 2012 R2.
My understanding is that there is no direct upgrade process from SCCM 2012 RTM to R2, therefore I have upgraded to SP1 and would prefer all features are working correctly before progressing to R2.

SCCM 2012 Software updates

We have SCCM 2012 R2 Server, We have been using more than a years ,
Now im facing crazy issues .
1.every month we using sccm server for deploying windows patches .
2.before patching we set maintenance schedules for device group.
3.patch deployment is working fine without any issues and we get the success 100 % compliants report in all the server .
Note:- but after one or two months later in Monitoring-->deployment tab-->its showing only few machines success results or deploying again old package''
this process is keep on rotating in all the deployment .
how to resolve this issues.

You could try to initiate Software Updates Deployment Evaluation Cycle action from a problematic client, then check CIAgent.log, StateMessage.log to see if there are any helpful information.
