IBooks & Kindle - Book "disk size"

Hello all.
I am planning to get an iPad very very soon but am not sure whether to get the 16Gb or the 32Gb. One of my primary usage of the iPad would be reading eBooks.
I am assuming that syncing all or selected eBooks from iBooks from iTunes to the iPad, is like syncing music and other media.
Can anyone tell me *what is the average size of an eBook from iBooks?* EG like the "Twilight" novel.
*Does the Kindle Books on iPad has about the same disk/file size per eBook??*
Thanks and cheers

The average size for a Kindle book varies, and most that I have are in the high to mid hundred kb range (400-800kb), though I do have some textbooks and other image heavy books (graphs, charts as images) in the ~3mb range. One outlier is a textbook which is 22mb. I have both a Kindle 1 (2007) and Kindle 2 and have never run out of space on either (the K1 took an SD card, so under 8gb; and the K2 has 2gb).
I don't have a good gauge for the difference between azw/mobi/prc and epub sizes - the only book I have in both ePub & mobi formats differs by 2mb (ePub's 6.5mb, kindle 4.4mb).
I would assume that the Kindle files are the same between the Kindle for iPad/iPod and the actual Kindle device, because one is able to sync between the various devices. I know for a fact that the files are the same between the Kindle for PC and actual Kindle device.

Regarding iTunes U courses, would I be able to link to books/sites (like say an amazon hardback book or link to a kindle book they can purchase and download).  Considering that not all books are available on iBooks I'm hoping this is allowed.   Also the possibility on monetizing since amazon gives commission for linking.
This question is for both the uncredited (private) courses and the bigger accredited accounts.    I am a  developer trying to learn how to help my area schools and also have some ideas for my own courses.    Obviously keeping within the iTunes U app would be preferred in most cases (to the learning experience) since they can take notes and see them within the app itself.
If the reply comes from a non-apple employee please let me know (or better yet, link to) where that is clarified.   I would hate to develop something just to later find out it is against the apple iTunes U agreement.

    Fair question
And, to be even more fair, I have to tell you that I get that every single day. And it's getting worse (or better, depending on how you look at it).
I always try to let people know it's a long way until you get to a confortable point, a point where you can create something. And that's exactly what I am trying to do, or at least asking how/if I should do it. And then I let them know where to start. That's what I want.
    Thanks.

  • To sync new book in iTunes, it says it would delete all other books on the iPhone. Is that only the iBooks or Kindle books too??

I'm so confused!  The pop-up message says, "Are you sure you want to sync books? All existing books on the iPhone will be replaced wth books from your iTunes library." I have scores of books in Kindle. Would those be wiped out?? Thanks for your advice.

After I posted my question, I saw this very helpful comment by Jim VanLeeuwen on this page:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/15799186#15799186
    He says:
"iBooks are iBooks and are maintained in your iTunes Books library.  They can be selected to sync with your iPad and iPhone for use with the iBooks app.
Kindle books are not maintained in your iTunes books library and they do not sync to your devices via iTunes. They are archived on Amazon's Kindle servers.  To load Kindle books to either your iPad or iPhone, use the Kindle app on the device.  On the iPhone, open the Kindle app.  Go to the home page and scroll down past any books you have loaded to find archived items.  Tap archived items and choose from the list of books you have purchased that you want on the phone.  You can access your Kindle archive from any device with a Kindle app that you have registered to your Kindle account, including your computer."

Can you share kindle books using family sharing?

    Hi Charlie42,
Happy New Year!  The link below explains how you can tell which purchased content is available to share using Family Sharing.   Contact Amazon for more specifics regarding sharing their content.  The Kindle app itself may be shareable, but the books may be considered an In-App purchase, making them not shareable.  Amazon would be able to give you a definitive answer.

Which purchased content can I share using Family Sharing
After you set up Family Sharing, the eligible songs, albums, movies, TV shows, books, and apps purchased by family members will be available to everyone else in the group. Learn what you can share with your family members.
If you turned on Share My Purchases, you can share most content that's also available in iTunes in the Cloud. You can share Music, Movies, and TV shows from the iTunes Store. You can also share Books that you downloaded from the iBooks Store, and apps from the App Store. The availability of each content type depends on your country.
There are a few things that you can't share:
Songs added to iTunes Match from outside the iTunes Store
    In-App Purchases
Items that are no longer available on the iTunes Store
    Items that were hidden
    Apps that aren't shareable

Use these steps to see if you can share an app before or after you get it.
    App Store in iOS 8
Go to the app's description page. Scroll down to the Information section. If you can share it, you'll see Yes next to Family Sharing.
Go to Updates > Purchased > My Purchases. If you can't share an app, you'll see Not Shareable next to its name.
Mac App Store in OS X Yosemite
Go to the app's description page and check the Information section. If you can share it, you'll see Yes next to Family Sharing.

If one of your family members received their content through Apple ID for Students, you won’t see it in their shared purchases. This includes apps and other content distributed through the school.
Family Sharing requires a personal Apple ID signed in to iCloud and iTunes. Music, movies, TV shows, and books can be downloaded on up to 10 devices per account, five of which can be computers. iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite are required to set up or join a Family Sharing group and are recommended for full functionality. Not all content is eligible for Family Sharing. Content can be hidden by family members; hidden content is not available for download. Content downloaded from family members or acquired via redemption codes is not subject to Ask to Buy.

  • Why won't my kindle books open?

Why won't my kindle books open on my iPad?

    James Ward4 wrote:
Can you proved a little more detail, such as what app you are attempting to use (is it the Kindle app? Kindle eBooks will work in the iBooks app).
Correction (courtesy of Meg's sharp eyes). Kindle eBooks will NOT  work in iBooks.

  • How do I archive my kindle books on my I pad?

How do I archive my kindle books on my I Pad

There should be an "i" somewhere on the screen that will provide additional help.
With iBooks all that you need to do is hold the book image in the library and delete, stays in your purchased space with the bookstore.
With Nook reader, in the library you can touch on the top of the screen to pull down a list of operations that includes archiving books.
Kindle should have a similar function, though I don't normally use Kindle.

  • Where are the kindle books I downloaded from amazon?

I down loaded my kindle books to the IPad.  I. Used the amazon app and had no difficulty but I can't find the books on the iPad.  I  know they were yesterday but I don't see them now.

Unfortunately there isn't a 'standard' user interface that every app uses, so the ways that things are done in one app won't necessarily be the same in another app - as you've found out. For the Kindle app there is this page on the Amazon site which may help http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html/ref=hp_ipland_uread?nodeId=2 00298480&#read. But unfortunately they have the one page that covers both the iPad and iPhone/iPod Touch which (due to the difference in their screen sizes) have slightly different screen layouts, so some of the screenshots they show aren't exactly the same on the iPad - but it may be of some use (hopefully).
For other apps there is generally a 'support' page link on their description page in the store, where you may find a user's guide and/or frequently asked questions page - but, again unfortunately, not all do.
And don't worry about asking questions - it's better to ask and get an answer than to go unasked/unanswered (and other people will probably find the question/answer useful as well).

  • I have downloaded Kindle books to my ipad before but now it says it is not supported.  Has something changed?

Can someone explain to me what has happened.  I was able to download Kindle books to my iPad using Kidle app, now I  can't.  What has changed?

You could try deleting the app and downloading it again.
In any case, this forum is only for the iBooks app.  For the Kindle app you need to ask in their own forums.

  • Why are itunes books so much more expensive than kindle books?

I am a recent convert from Android to iPad and iPhone.  Even though I have the Kindle app on both devices and can read my Kindle books, it seemed to make sense to make any new book purchases through iTunes since I already purchase apps and music.  However, after comparing about a half dozen books on both Kindle and iTunes, the iTunes books were all higher in price by 30 to 50%.  This doesn't make sense to me, so I thought I'd throw it out as a question and see if anyone knew why.

I'm struggling with the same thing. I prefer to buy all things Apple. If the prices were even close, I would, but I just found yet another book that I need for work where Kindle is literally half the price!!!!  One thing I won't do is end up with half of my ebooks in Kindle and half in iBooks, so if Apple doesn't fix this, I'm afraid I will have to buy all my books from amazon. And once you start down either path, it's hard to switch back, so I hope Apple is paying attention.

  • How to move a amazon kindle book to ipod books??

I have read the apple supplied tips to move a kindle book from my computer to my ipod with no results.  What am I missing?  Or is it not possible?  Thanks for any help given me.

Also if I switch my wi-fi router on and go into ibooks store and click "purchased" it says "you do not have any purchased books available for downlaod." Same with itunes store, the vook does not show up as a purchase even though I just purchased it yesterday! Real drag. Please does *anyone* know how to get a book/app into my ipod when it doesn't show up on the ipod Apps list? It's only in the itunes for Windows apps list.

  • Disk size in Solaris 10

I have some confusion about disk subsystem in Solaris, i am trying to clarify from this forum.
I have recently installed Solaris 10 in one SPARC box. After i installed, the format gives the bellow output.
    0 root wm 19491 - 29648 4.88GB (10158/0/0) 10239264
    1 swap wu 0 - 4062 1.95GB (4063/0/0) 4095504
    2 backup wm 0 - 29648 14.25GB (29649/0/0) 29886192
From the above output, is the size of my disk is 14 GB ?, or the size of my disk is 14+2+5=21 GB ?
I am trying to learn ZFS, so i want another partition in this disk so that i create ZFS on that partition.
I have gone to single user mode by using CD. I assumed that, from the above "format" command output, i thought i have 21GB of disk size and 14GB of free space. So i created another partition with 14GB. Now the format command gives bellow output.
    0 root wm 19491 - 29648 4.88GB (10158/0/0) 10239264
    1 swap wu 0 - 4062 1.95GB (4063/0/0) 4095504
    2 backup wm 0 - 29648 14.25GB (29649/0/0) 29886192
    3 reserved wm 0 - 29127 14.00GB (29128/0/0) 29361024
When i am creating ZFS, it given me a warning that the the partition i have specified is spanned into root partition (first partition), and it mentioned to use "-f" option.
    With "-f", it created successfully.
If i assume now that the size of my disk is 14GB only then,
    (1) how come two partitions are pointing to the same area in the disk ?
    (2) How come two different filesystems are pointing to the same area ?
Please anyone clarify my doubts. Thank you.

Assuming a standard labeled disk it is standrad practice to have section/slice 2 being 'whole disk' for purposes of 'backup'. That would tend to indicate you have a 14GB disk. A prtvtoc /dev/dsk/c?t?d?s2 (change the ?s to the right values) will give a little more on the disk geometry.
In the display from format column 4 is the start cylinder of the partition and column 5 is the end cylinder. From the first set out output it looks like cyclinders 4063 to 19490 are not allocated
In the second set you have created a new slice (section 3) that overlaps both sections 0 and 1 - which is generally considered to be bad!

  • MS 6147 max memory and disk sizes

For the MS 6147 can anybody confirm the max Hard disk size and max memory.
It will not recognise the 40Gb HD I am trying to fit, and only recognises half of the 256Mb memeory simm I have fitted.
The BIOS version is 1.9 but I think that is a 'special' by Packard Bell.  The MSI BIOS download site makes no mention of disk problems rectified right up to V1.8 which is the latest, with the exception of one for the ZX chipset only which addresses EDMA 66 problem.
Anybody got a definitive answer on this?

    Supports a maximum memory size of 256MB (8M x 8) or
       512MB (16M x 4) registered DIMM only
how many chips on dimm is what counts with older boards
go to drive makers web site get jumper settings to limit it to 32gb and try

  • Is there a max SATA disk size in OSX 10.4.11 and G4/1.25?

    Hello,
I am trying to set up a G4/1.25 (2 gig in memory) as a fileserver with a SATA card and 2 x 3 TB seagate disks. This is the setup:
    http://lowendmac.com/ppc/mdd-power-mac-g4-1.25-ghz.html
    http://firmtek.com/seritek/seritek-1v4/
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Seagate/ST3000DM001/
The system is OSX 10.4.11. I am unable to initialize the disks in disk utility. The process starts but then halts and says that it can not continue.
My question is if there is a max disk size in OSX 10.4.11?
    Any help greatly appriceated.
    Best regards,
    Ingolfur Bruun

    Hello again,
I tried to work my way around armed with your input and succeeded
By using a FireWire dock I was able to see the disks in 10.4.11. What I did was to partition the disks with ONE partition in Disk Utility and then format with GUID partitioning scheme instead of the Apple Partition Mapping scheme which I had done before. And as I am using a ATA disk as a startup disk it dosen't matter if the 3 TB disks are not bootable. They will only be used for data, not as system disks.
You saved my day! Thanks again.
    Best regards,
    Ingolfur

  • I select my Ipad under devices in itunes, go to apps that support file sharing, select kindle but none of the kindle book files on my ipad appear under kindle documents

I want to copy books I've purchased for Nook and for Kindle from my Ipad to my laptop.  In Itunes I select the Ipad under devices, select apps at the top of the screen and scroll to file sharing apps.  When I select the kindle app or the nook app nothing appears under the documents window.

You can't do it via File Sharing, those two stores don't support the copying of your Kindle/Nook purchases off their apps via file sharing.
If you want your Kindle book on your laptop then you could download the Kindle app from Amazon and download the books directly in it : Kindle apps.
    I don't think that Nook have a PC/Mac app
