ICal experience in ca 50 people workgroup

I would like to hear experiences for the use of Server-based iCal and about 50 users sharing calenders for appointments, scheduling meetings etc.
Company is all macs (OSX10.7 and up), iphones.
Is this a reliable solution, syncs well, etc, in short easy to maintain or does it require constant monitoring?
All experiences welcome.

Hello Ruichronox-
I know that there have been times where I’ve made a purchase and found out afterwards that it wasn’t what I was expecting or wanted.  Sometimes I’ve been within the return/exchange period of the store I purchased it at and sometimes not, but each time, it’s nice to know you have the option.  I’m sorry to hear that you’ve received this 90 day ban.
Best Buy utilizes The Retail Equation (TRE) to help us track returns and exchanges so that we can help keep our costs low for our customers.  Generally, most customers will never have an issue being able to return or exchange their products with Best Buy, but occasionally this may come up.  It’s not meant to punish our customers and I apologize if that’s how it comes across.  While we aren’t able to provide any details around the criteria that may cause you to receive this warning/ban, 5 returns in a short period of time is something that very well would trigger a warning/ban.  You always have the option of requesting a copy of your Return Activity Report from TRE.  The details on how to do so and more information on TRE can be located through our FAQ here.
We appreciate your business and hope that we will continue to receive it either during or after your 90 days has passed.
Sincerely,

    Hello binbingogoABC,
Shopping on BestBuy.com should be easy and fun and not fraught with the kind of trouble that you describe. I regret very much that this has been your experience.
Using the information you provided when you signed up for Best Buy Unboxed I was able to locate your cancelled orders. I have requested more information from my back-office partners. • IPhone, calender, iCal, mail.app: probem inviting people to meeting

    Hi everyone,
last night I downloaded the 3.0 Version. Everything runs fine but...
I tried the new feature to invite people to appointments in calender. On the first sight everything works fine. But then there where Problems.
My colleague received my invitation on his iPhone but the iPhone could not open the "winmail.dat".
We then tried it using mail.app, where the "winmail.dat" was visible. The content of the "winmail.dat" could not be opened. Therefore iCal.app could also not handle the invitation.
This feature is very important to me and surely to many others.
Could anybody tell me what went wrong?
    kind regards, Uwe

Ah! after talking to different people we found out that this might be the support for Exchange 2007 from Microsoft.
What I have to tell is that we are using Zarafa as a replacement for Exchange.
Probably this will be tha cause for the missing functionality.
As far as we know the colleagues from Zarafa are working hard to update their Software.
    Still waiting for a solution,
    regards, Uwe

  • Can ical send reminders to other people about their appointments in my ical

    Hi Guys,
I understand the fact that iCal can send 'invites" when I add an appointment for someone in my calendar but is there anyway to get the "alarm" that sends me a message a set time before the event to instead send them a message just reminding them? I don't want to have to customise the message everytime, just have it send the person invited, a message saying "blah blah blah..tomorrow at 4pm" etc.
Can iCal do that or do I need to change calendar software to do that? I'm a singing teacher, by the way and want to remind people of their lessons
    Many Thanks,
    Gareth

Thanks. If there are other people invited to the appointment it comes up with this
So I don't want to 'move' it or cancel the original appointment. is there another way I can, for example, have my boss's appointments all come up green and mine all come up blue......

  • Terrible customer experience, this is why people buy from Amazon

    Hi,
I use to love bestbuy and decide to give bestbuy a chance to win me back after years of buying from amazon. This was probably the worst mistake ever as buying experience was horrible.
First, the biggest reason why I decide to purchase from bestbuy was due to the haul away. I calledl customer service and the person told me it wouldn't be a problem with haul away because my dad is about 70 years old and he wouldn't be able to throw away the old LCD tv he had. After the phone call was over, I got an email telling me the order staus and the shipping address was wrong. I had to called back (wasting time here) to change the address and was hung up on during transfer which then I had to be put on hold again for another 10 mins and was told the shipping was updated. Good, I thought that was all settled until I found out today that the item was being ship via UPS. I'm pretty sure UPS doesn't do haul away and I called bestbuy to confirm what is the deal with the haul away. They told me the haul away is for 50 inch and over and they can't do anything about it unless I pay 69.99 to haul it away. This is unbelivable and I'm done buying from bestbuy. You just lost the customer forever..
3 phones just to get one tv and bestbuy still can't get it right. If I wanted to do this way, I would have done this in amazon and 5 mins i would have been done. Thanks for making buying a tv the worst experience in my life and i brought plenty of LCD tv in the past.

    Hello hyenug,
It was very nice of you to purchase a TV for your father. I’m sure he was ecstatic to know it was on its way to his house, only to be disappointed that there wasn’t a free haul-away service attached to his order. It sounds like you may have been led to believe this was the case, and it’s regrettable to hear we may have incorrectly set this expectation when helping you purchase the item over the phone yesterday afternoon.
When purchasing a 51’ TV or larger, we tend to have a delivery option available to those who would rather have the convenience of us hand delivering the item to the address of their choice. If delivery is purchased (or provided free with certain TV purchases), there should be a complimentary haul-away service that may be added to the service order so we may properly dispose of your old item in an environmentally friendly way.
As your television is a 48” model, delivery is not an option for your purchase. This means any haul-away service would be at cost to you should you wish us to remove your current TV from your father’s home, and this could explain why we couldn’t honor your request for a free haul-away service when you called us earlier this morning to attempt to modify your online order.
Please know I greatly appreciate the feedback you’ve provided us, and I’ll be sure to document your concerns so the appropriate internal corporate teams may review them for potential coaching opportunities. I’m truly sorry for any frustration or inconvenience this experience may have caused, while it sounds like this misinformation and experience has tarnished your opinion of us, I truly hope you will provide us another chance to win you over in near future.
    Respectfully,

  • How do i configure ical to email me when people accept/decline invites

Im running Mac 10.8.2 and im trying to get the calander to email me when someone accepts or declines my invites
My email is configured for smtp and my calander/contacts are managed by the icloud
The only way i know if someone has accepted is to open the event and check the status of the invitees
    Many thanks

If you send an email to a non-existant email address, you would get a Mailor Daemon message from the server.
If you send a vaild and correct email address to the correct person, but they have used up their server quota, the email will not be deivered and you would get a response from the server.
If you sent an email with a vaild email address, but not the correct email address for that person, then that email would get delivered to that email address even though it is not for the correct person and you would not get any notification because it was delivered as instructed.
So, if the email is not delivered then you would get a response email from the server.
There are a variety of reasons for non-delivery:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bounce_message
There is no method of any server knowing or indeed anyone knowing whether you have typed the correct email address for the recipient. That responsibility is down to you. Servers can only know whether it can or cannot be delivered for various reasons.

  • Experience hardware and software people only

Using my 4GS iPhone I found out my iPhone can snap pictures of itself on its locking screen and application scree how did my camera do that without replacing the os or tampering with the hardware or opening it?

Try reading the User's Guide, it is obvious that you are unaware of many of the features and functions of the device.

  • ICal falls short for enterprise use in an Exchange server environment

(Cross posting from the "Using Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard" discussion).
I work at a very large software company on a team of people who all use Macs. We were thrilled to install Snow Leopard and begin using the new Exchange server features in Mail, Address Book and iCal. Sadly, though, some very rough edges on the iCal experience are making many people go back to running Entourage, or even Outlook in Parallels (ugh).
Specifically, iCal does not allow you to control how and when notifications are sent when you edit an existing event. As a meeting organizer, if you make a change, such as adding a new attendee to a meeting that includes 40 other attendees already, all 40 of those existing attendees get a notification, forcing them to re-evaluate the meeting in their inboxes.
There is no way to save a draft of a meeting invitation without sending it to the attendees. Often the chore of assembling the correct mix of attendees for a meeting takes significant time. If you are unable to complete the agenda or other planning aspects of the event in a single sitting, you must send the meeting as is, which is not a real option if your respect your colleagues time, because they will be receiving multiple updates to your meeting as you complete it.
Declining a meeting automatically notifies the meeting organizer without giving the invitee a choice. This also creates a lot of unnecessary "noise" in peoples inboxes. Sometimes it is desirable, but not always- the ability to control notification is a very sensitive issue in the context of meeting etiquette.
You cannot Reply, Reply All, or Forward a meeting calendar event from within iCal.
There is no support for rich text in the meeting calendar event's "Notes" field - the field in iCal that is used to represent the meeting invitation email's body text. This strips out meaning and complicates the workflow for attending a meeting.
Getting people to participate in collaborative work in large distributed organizations is a challenge as it is. We cannot afford to use tools that work against the goal. Apple, please hurry up and provide the rest of the features required to really USE an Exchange calendar client in an enterprise environment.

"He also wants to get his calendar appointments and address book (contacts), but he doesn't want to use Entourage"
You need to use GroupCal by Snerdware but we have found it not to be a really good product in our office. The address book has the ability to sync to exchange server many have indicated it doesn't work (Address Book/Preferences/General Tab/Sync with Exchange)
You could try Thunderbird mail product not used that but I doubt any of the Tasks, To-Dos and Calendar come over...now Entourage used to be horrible with this sync but now with 11.3.6 (or whatever it is now) our users see calendar events, to-dos and the LDAP directory
Though I am a Mac fan, still in a windows world you cannot be too choosy they should just use entourage for an outlook like product.
NOTE do NOT go to Exchange 2007 tons of IMAP problems our Mac users are unable to get mail (and yet our Windows Admin could care less)
    good luck

  • I just wanted to say I am sorry and clarify the situation as it was clarified for me yesterday... Great experience with Palm Customer Support.

I called Sprint yesterday and was treated terribly by tech support because I didn't want to switch devices.  They as much as called me outright stupid for wanting to stay with my Palm Pre.  Even though they agreed that all four phones were broken out of the box and that I was not at fault.  They refused to help on the basis that Palm Pre's were being recalled and no longer would be available at Sprint.  I was so upset that I called Palm immediately and found that to be untrue.  Thankfully.  Despite all the issues I had, I don't believe it was Palm's fault.  I believe the Authorized Retailers were selling refurbished phones as new.  Especially after finding out that my husbands' Samsung Moment had over 400 hours of talk time a week after he bought the phone.  So, after being lied to by Sprint, I called Palm and the Tech's were very helpful and very empathetic and are sending me a replacement phone.  They waived the fee since this is to be my 5th replacement and I was extremely surprised at how helpful they were.
Further, this morning I got a phone call from an unknown number... which I almost didn't answer but I did and it turned out to be a Palm Corporate Customer Service Rep who had read some of my "rants" on here.   He apologized and we talked for a while about the problems I had with R**** $&*** and Sprint.  He then offered to replace the Touchstone I had purchased earlier this month and offered to call me after I receive the replacement and the TS kit to make sure there was no problems... which I believe he will.  SO, I am a person who is very happy with Palm. If I am wrong, I will say I am wrong... especially if my experiences could had given people pause about buying this phone.  I am sorry.  It is truly a great company, who does care about their customers and their opinions.
So, if you do end up being one of the few people who have an issue.  Try Sprint once and if they don't fix the problem... call Palm and they will take care of you.  I got caught up in a cycle of reading other people examples (and who knows how much a situation is exaggerated) and expected to receive horrible service from Palm.  But I didn't and I am glad that I stuck with them.
If anyone reading had a similiar experience from Palm where they went above and beyond the call of duty to restore your faith in the company... please post if you have the time. Thanks again

I am sorry if I didn't explain clearly but Radioshack is the first place I bought my phone from... as an authorized retailer I assumed that if it was new, it wouldn't be broken... but after the first two, I got online and found another story where Radioshack got caught selling a refurb Palm Pre as new.  The guy bought it took it home and it had some defect (that I can't remember) and when he went to Pandora App, he found that the previous owner had signed in and it hadn't been cleared out.  So.... I don't know... but I agree with you because you still see the problem clearly.  Sprint acts as though they are supportive of Palm, but if you have the slightest issue, they throw Palm under the bus and won't back a far superior product.  I do agree that there are some issues with the Palm build, but I think that it has more to do with the owner than anything.  If you have the time and ability to take care with your Pre, then it will probably last longer than someone who just jams the charger in the port or anyone who doesn't baby the phone 97% of the time.  I am sure some people are going to say that you shouldn't have to take sure care with a phone and I agree, but unfortunately that is just the case for now. I have faith that the next webOS device is going to be of a spectacular and solid build quality.  And the rep that called me about the charger kit said some about a future device, I don't know if he was just talking in general or if there is actually a device in the makings but I hope so!
    http://forums.precentral.net/palm-pre/240804-still-my-1st-pre-proud.html#post2368881
I know there was a post on precentral that talked about who was on their first Palm Pre's and the number was surprising high.  I just know that I am still waiting on my replacement from Pre and they could have very easily just grabbed a refurb and threw it in a box to be shipped.  But I was assured that a tech was going to inspect the device before it was sent to me and it was shipped two days after my order.  So, hopefully dealing with Palm rather than Sprint will be the deciding factor that allows me to finally have a great model of the Pre with no prior issues out of the box.  I just hope that there is a new Palm webOS device when I able to upgrade in a year or so.  Above is the link for the forums regarding owners who are still on number one, alot of them launch day Pre's.  Thanks for your response.  Can't wait till Monday

  • How can I find the URL for an iCal calendar in iCloud so I can make a link to it on a web page.

I have a single iCal calendar that I want people to access through my webpage.  How can I find the URL so that they can view the calendar without having to subscribe to it.  I converted to iCloud from .Mac and I can see that changes to this calendar are not showing up.

Mmmh.. i see... I don't know wether it is possible for people just check calendars without subscribing to them... I have been sharing some calendars in my website (maybe you can have a look at it in order to check wether it could be a possible solution for you)

  • Calendar events created in iCal sending multiple email invites to invitees

    Background:
    Google Apps domain account
Lion and Snow Leopard iCal users syncing to Google Calendar
    Problem:
1.A Lion user creates a new iCal event and invites multiple people to the event.  The event is created and then an email invitation is sent to all invitees.  Each invitee receives 6 - 10 email notices about the evet.
    2. the event organizer changes the event time, multiple email notices go out to all invitees (6-10 emails each).
What is causing this problem and is there a way to fix it?

  • Sidebar missing from iCal in Lion - seeking a third party product to restore lost functionality

Apple has removed the sidebar, the always-on list of calendars that required no click.
The shallow popover that appears only when clicked — obscuring part of the calendar before disappearing — is to me (and some others) an unacceptable substitute for working with multiple calendars, especially where calendars are grouped across multiple servers.
I'm aware of third party alternatives to iCal. (Most full-featured calendar interfaces do have an always-on full-height list of calendars. Probably the best known alternative to iCal is BusyCal.)
This topic does not seek alternatives; I do wish to continue using iCal, albeit in a way that is less frustrating than what Apple forces upon users of 10.7.
    This topic seeks:
a third party product that will restore lost functionality to iCal.
To any developer who reads this topic: please, I beg you, on my knees, submit your iCal sidebar app — or whatever you wish to call it — to the App Store as soon as you can. I'll gladly pay, and more than gladly help to test any pre-Store development version.
Other readers please note: whilst I'm extraordinarily frustrated by Apple's design decision, this is not an invitation to rant. Let's gain something constructive from this discussion.
If you wish Apple to restore the sidebar to iCal, as an option, then please:
submit iCal feedback to Apple, with your use case; explain why for you personally the limited disappearing popover is a poor substitute; explain how the sidebar will improve both (a) your productivity and (b) your appreciation of Apple's software.
Side note: no category includes iCal, so I file this opening post under Using Mac OS X v10.7 Lion.
    Thank you
    Graham

    Gauroch wrote:
    the new way
Many things in the new iCal are beautifully designed. I am certain that the new iCal will be enjoyed by people who use the new multi-session screen sharing for Mac OS on iOS (that should be a separate topic).
iCal's aqua popover default may be perfect for people who have only a handful of calendars.
    Critically
The new design fails completely to offer an always-on full-height list of calendars — invaluable when working with more than a handful of things.
The screenshot below, taken whilst evaluating BusyCal, shows a subset of my list of calendars (more than the average user, that's why an always-on list is so valuable). In shot: three accounts on a CalDAV server. I have other, lesser used accounts on other CalDAV servers. Also some use of Exchange servers. My own case is extreme but there's a guiding principle for a variety of use cases:
some users need to see the list of calendars all the time.
What's exmplified below has become impossible in iCal 5.0 (1535) in Mac OS X 10.7 (Build 11A511).
I plead with Apple, or a third party developer, to restore the sidebar list of calendars to iCal.
Apple's limitation is acceptable when the user has only two calendars —
    — but for some other classes of user, completely inappropriate.
The percentage of users troubled by the loss of functionality may be less than the percentage enjoying the popover, but that in itself does not reduce the trouble, the frustration.
The sidebar was present in 10.4, removed in 10.5. Many users of 10.5 complained.
The sidebar reappeared in 10.6. Removal in 10.7 is almost completely dumbfounding.
I would like to say, "give it time — the more you use it, the more it will be appreciated" but for me this is not true. For some weeks I tried to work with this build of iCal and the more I used it, the greater the frustration. I grew to avoid iCal.
In most ways the feature set of iCal is unequalled. Support for many standards is excellent. The removal of the sidebar is a blight on this brilliance.
I plead with Apple or a third party developer to fix this at the earliest opportunity. I want Apple iCal — but user-friendly, not crippled.

  • Copy multiple items from ical alters sorting order

I use OSX leopard with iCal 3.0.1. I would like to select multiple items and copy-paste them into a text document or spreadsheet. I use iCal to keep track of people's working hours and I need to send the hours to salary admin at the end of each month.
Using the "search" option within iCal, I can select all item concerning the working hours of, let's say, "George". If I copy-paste them into another application (Word, Mail, Numbers, Excel) the sorting order of the items altered. It looks like a rather random order. I want to have it ordered by date opbviously! Does anyone recognize this problem?

    Pieter,
would send feedback to apple on this, recreated the behavior on both of my macs for multiple search results, and each time same thing, order is altered...

  • How To Use iCal To It's Full Potential?

I've had iCal on my Macbook since I bought it 9 months ago and have used iCal on a moderate basis.
It's only been moderate because it never really hooked me to organizing my life within it. Usually I just use a pen and paper to jot down my priorities and events but I figure that's pretty lame, especially since I carry my Macbook everywhere.
Any suggestions on how to use iCal to its full extent?
Any possible programs or downloads to enhance my iCal experience?
Any advice would be great as I want to begin to utilize iCal on a daily basis.
    thanks!

If you bill for your time on a project-by-project basis, or simply need to keep track of time intervals required to complete tasks or projects, TimeLog—a low cost application that communicates with iCal and interacts with the synchronization framework—will do that.
