ICal multiple day event issues

If I enter an event which covers more than one day and set the start and end dates to the corresponding dates it only works on my iPhone. The iPad and iCal only show the event on the day it begins. Whereas the iPhone shows it across all of the days starting from the first date and ending on the end date. Surely this is the way it should be shown in iCal and iPad calendar also? If not you could have a multiple day event and only think it is forgone day and double book your diary?

Hi,
Timed events (as opposed to all day ones) only show on the first day in Month view in iCal. They show in Week and Day views for all the days they span.
This has been the way iCal operates for several versions (if not from the beginning) and if you look here you'll find many comments about it.

  • Use multiple day event in Calendar region

    I am using a Calendar region in my application. One issue i have run into is, some of my events are multiple-day events, such as a conference. The calendar application does not seem to be able to deal with multiple-day events. It takes one date as the date. There doesn't seem to be any way of dealing with multiple day events. In my case, I have 2 date fields in my table associated with my calendar - a starting date, and an ending date.
    Has anyone found a way to deal with this situation? I don't want to have a separate entry for each date of the event. I'd like to be able to use my start date, and ending date fields.
    Thanks,
    John

    Scott,
    I took the SQL you used in your trigger and substituted my table names and fields. I am getting 3 errors. Here is what my code looks like after the substitutions (my table names are 'meetings_tbl' and 'meetings_tbl_cal'):
    CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER ai_meetings
    AFTER UPDATE OR INSERT ON meetings_tbl
    FOR EACH ROW
    DECLARE
    l_date_diff NUMBER;
    BEGIN
    IF UPDATING THEN
    DELETE FROM meetings_tbl_cal WHERE m_id = meetings_tbl.m_id;
    END IF;
    l_date_diff := meetings_tbl.meeting_end - meetings_tbl.meeting_start;
    FOR x IN 0..l_date_diff
    LOOP
    INSERT INTO meetings_tbl_cal
    (m_id, meeting_date)
    VALUES
    (meetings_tbl.m_id, TO_DATE(meetings_tbl.meeting_start + x));
    END LOOP;
    END;
    I am getting 3 errors:
    1) PL/SQL: ORA-00904: "MEETINGS_TBL"."M_ID": invalid identifier
    2) PLS-00357: Table,View Or Sequence reference 'MEETINGS_TBL.MEETING_END' not allowed in this context
    3) PL/SQL: ORA-00984: column not allowed here
    Maybe I'm not supposed to substitute ':NEW' with 'MEETINGS_TBL' ??
    Thanks for your help!

  • Multiple day events

    I exported an .ics event from my work calendar and e-mailed it to my Mac at home.
    It was a vacation starting on Fri 12/18/2009 at 6:30 (when I start my work day), and ending on Mon 12/21/2009 at 3:00.
    My wife and I share our iCal via our .mac account, and she called me to say I needed Monday off as well - it showed up on her calendar as a Friday vacation only. Opening the event showed the correct time. A solution was to change it to full day events - now it showed as 4 days instead of as one day glancing on the month's calendar.
    Is there a set-up we have wrong, or is this just the way iCal displays multiple day events that aren't marked as full day events? (I hope it's the former, as it is not a good design at all).

  • International travel and multiple-day events with time zones

    I can't see how I can set an international travel easily as one event, e.g. from 2010-01-11 20:30:00+11:00 to 2010-01-11 07:10-10:00. I can set both as in one Time Zone, but that is not what I want. I want to set as my itinerary from a travel agent says, e.g. the start and end in different Time Zones. Although I can enter the departure and arrival as two events, that is not what I want to do. The air travel is one event, not two.
    Also, I often want to set schedules for multiple-day international meetings using the local time of the meetings while my iCal is still in my own Time Zone, but this is not possible. As soon as I select All Day in a new event, the Time Zone option disappears. Of course, I can change my iCal Preferences to use the target Time Zone (instead of my local one) and then set the meeting schedule, but this is not what I want to do. I want to be able to select a different Time Zone for multiple-day events while I am in my own Time Zone.
    These are rather common problems in any internatioanl businesses I suspect. It would be really handy to tie iCal with travel itinerary applications. If this is possible, I also would be able to get the information directly from travel agents in iCal format and it is a great potential for developing such applications.
    Does anyone know whether these are possible in iCal or whether Apple may be working on it?
    I also can't find a Feature Request for Apple, to ask about it. Does anyone know where to find it?
    Thanks.

    I just didn't get the context here. Do you want to display multiple rows within one Outlook calendar event? If yes, I think it's impossible.
    Please reattach the sample which will be very helpful for others to understand your requirement, then possibly provide a solution.

  • The order of my ical 'all day' events changes when i go into print mode?

    The order of my ical 'all day' events changes when i go into print mode. What can i do to keep the order of events i so painstakingly created?

  • How do I mark up multiple day events like school holidays?

    I would like to mark up school holidays to help with planning family holidays.
    Other than marking each day individually how can it be done?
    I actually would need 2 school calendars as my boys go to 2 different schools and the holidays are different.
    I imagine a user would need to mark up multiple day events like conventions or business trips similarly.
    If it were my physical diary I would color the whole day background both on the day and on the year/month layout to block them out and make them clearly distinguishable in whatever view.
    I have subscribed to the Australian Holidays calendar but it is incomplete. Major holidays such as the Easter break, Labor Day, Bank Holidays and Queen's Birthday etc are not included. In fact, except for Christmas, Australia Day and Anzac Day it did not have much at all.
    If Apple needs an accurate set of Australian & NZ holiday calenders broken down into States & NZ regions, I am happy to assist. The information is available in the front of every diary sold here.

    If you have other all-day events, there will be a separate pane for them at the top of the calendar in week view. Control-click in this area on the first day, choose New Event, then drag the right edge of the new event over as many days as you need.

  • Daylight savings all-day events issues in updated iCal for iPad

    After purchasing new MBP, Genius Bar told me to update to new iCal. I have noticed that any all-day events taking place on the date that daylight savings begins (3/13/11 i.e.) lasts on iPad's iCal for two days. When I attempt to edit, event still displays for two days. Guessing it is because that day technically lasts for only 23 hours. Genius Bar consultant had no suggestions for a remedy. This error appears for 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 daylight savings beginning dates. The error doesn't seem to be a problem for the MBP or my iPhone.

    I've experienced the same problem.  I set up a recurring one day event on the first of each month - come April 1 in 2012 the event is spread over 2 days (the end of daylight savings time in Australia) from April onwards.  I can muck around with the event and have it set at one day from April1 onwards in 2012 but there's a recurring event bug related to daylight savings.  I wonder if any alarms people have set for that day will again experience the problems from the past?

  • ICal monthly overview multiple day event

    Hey community,
    i already searched google and here but didn´t find any answers solving the problem.
    In the monthly overview an event which is ongoing for more than a day but is not a whole day event. The monthly overview shows it only the starting day.
    One possibility is to create whoel day appointments, but in the end if i have to leave at 16:00 ongoing until two days later 10:00 it makes no sence to block 3 whole days.
    The weekly overview shows it correctly. I´ll appreciate even an app which i´ll can use but didn´t find so far.
    thanks br

  • Multiplying entries, all-day event issues, and freezing

    I've been having quite a few issues with iCal since I upgraded to Snow Leopard (but I don't regret it).
    1. Several of my all day events have been multiplied, so that they are entered in 3, 4, even 5 times.
    2. Many all-day events that were set to last only one day now span two or three.
    3. Whenever I try and access December of 2010, iCal stops responding, and causes almost all programs to freeze until I force quit iCal.
    Please help!

    I've been seeing new problems with iCal since moving to Snow Leopard too. If, when the alarm for a repeating event comes up I tell I call to remind me later, I will get multiple reminders instead. Also, for repeating event sometimes the alarm will not repeat, but instead get changed to only alert for a single day.

  • ICal "all day events" separator bar

    Is it possible to adjust the "all day events" separator bar in iCal in the Daily or Weekly view.  When you have more than 6 all day events on one day a scroll bar appears, and it's not possible to view all of the all day events at once.  I know that this sounds like nit-picking, but I've developed a work-flow where I would like to look at all of the informaiton at once without extra clicks or scrolls, or to glance at the information without having to bring the application to the surface, or make it the active application.
    Does anyone know if there is a way to adjust the separator bar to allow the user to see more then 6 all day events in the weekly or daily iCal views
    Another ideal solution would be additions to the View or the Preference options that would allow the user to view all of the "all day events" and have the separator bar automatically adjust.
    thanks,

    I agree with you...  this used to be a flexible field and would handle infinate "all day" events.    To answer your question...  no, you cannot adjust this field.  I too use this for business and really need to view all the "all day" events.  I've been forced to use the daily view and put a date notation in the "location" field to know when the event ends.  It's the only way to see everything.
    I found a nice little calendar program SaiSuke but Apple doesn't play well with others.  You can enter into the iCal or iCloud calendar program and it will seemlessly appear through iCloud into the SaiSuke calendar.  But Apple will not release the information allowing SaiSuke to talk back to iCloud.
    Basically what I'm saying is it's a one way conversation between SaiSuke & iCloud, it can bring data in but not return data back.  So if you enter a new event in SaiSuke it will not be anywhere other than the iPhone or iPad you entered it on, it cannot make it back to iCloud without plugging your phone in and doing a manual Sync.  Of course this process will produce duplicate events.
    So unless someone out there has more knowledge ...  and you want to have your events be the same on multiple platforms (phone, pad & desktop) we are stuck with using their iCal product.  Apple calls this progress.

  • ICal all-day event problem

    iCal on my iPad worked fine for a while. Now, many of my all day events (but not all of them) are showing up a day early on my iPad on week view. Everything is fine on all other devices (iPhone, MacBook) and all is fine on iPad on day, month and list view. All timed events are in the right place. But all day events in week view are a disaster and turning off the iPad isn't helping. Any advice?

    Did you travel out of your home time zone and first notice the problem then? I spent an hour and a half on the phone with Apple Care while I was in the Central zone (I live in Eastern) and nothing the supervisor suggested worked (deleting the account, resetting, turning ipad off, etc). They'd bumped me up to a supervisor because the regular guy had no idea. Supervisor said no one on the internal tech board had seen that particular problem. The final assumption was it was a software glitch on my ipad--the advice was a complete restore which was going to have to wait until I returned home because he said it would take too long over the Verizon mi-fi I was using while traveling. Anyway--I got home to Eastern time, immediately pulled out the ipad to do the restore and all the all-day events were in the right place and have remained in the right place since then. My best guess is that it's a time zone issue but it doesn't make much sense. All my timed events stayed right where they were supposed to be the whole time (time zone support turned off).

  • How to view iCal all day events in notifications tab?

    First of all I really don't like the new iCal app in ios7 but for now I am dealing with it and am contemplating getting a new app to use for my calendar. However I am trying to make this one work first. One of the problems I have is if I have iCal events that are scheduled as "all day" events, and when I swipe down to view my notifications tab it says I have no events even when I have an event for that day.  However it shows up if I have a time for that event, ex: 8:00 am to 10:00am.
    Is this a bug or is there a way to get them to show up? I have everything turned on in settings for the notifications tab settings.
    My other issue with iCal is I have two calendars (one for work and one for home) and when I view my month, I want to be able to see the color of the event i have planned on certain days, instead it just shows me a grey dot for the days i have something planned. My ipad with ios7 shows me the view I want my iphone doesn't, just grey dots.  This forces me to actually click on the day and then try to scroll through the day timeline to find my event.....any help?

    Did you ever get an answer on this?  I can see everything in the DAY view but need to see the all day events in the week view.  I have events that start on say the 15th and run to the 21st.  I've started putting the end date in the location field but it was so much nicer when the all day even portion expanded to allow you to see all of them without having to scroll.  Having to use the DAY view makes it really hard to schedule.  Any chance this will change in the new version?

  • Nokia and iCal: all-day events

    Whenever I use iSync to sync iCal and my E65, all-day events are sent to the phone as "meetings" that last from from 12:00am to 11:59pm instead of being synced as "notes". This is very annoying! Does anyone know of a solution? Here are my software versions:
    Mac OS X: 10.4.10
    iSync: 2.4
    iCal: 2.0.5

    I researched and researched, and it looks like Mac users are out of luck on this issue. Everything seemed to go wrong when Nokia changed to SyncML to sync their calendar and address book databases. Seems like Nokia & Apple would have resolved this issue by now. From what I've heard, it's been a problem for a long time.
    So, I'm giving up for now until someone has an answer. I'm only going to put calendar events on my phone and just use that as my main calendar.
    If anyone's interested, there is new software for S60 called "Handy Calendar" by Epocware. It is an amazing replacement for the built-in Nokia calendar app. The one big improvement is that you can make all-day events repeat, unlike on Nokia's calendar. It uses the same database as Nokia's calendar, so you can switch between the 2 with no problems. It also has a nice, clean, good-looking interface. Unfortunately it uses Nokia's SyncML as well, so it doesn't help with iCal.
    Oh, well... waiting for a fix...

  • One multiple day event won't show in month view

    I have noticed that every time I launch iCal an event (checked for all day event) beginning 9/1 and ending 9/4 will not show up in the month view until I open that day (and it's there) click it and then it will show up as a banner event. If I close iCal it goes away.
    I have other all day events spanning multiple days that don't appear and vanish.
    Any ideas what can be causing this? I don't want to schedule something way in advance and then forget it's there because it's vanishing.
    Thanks.

    Hi David,
    The way this is implemented by iCal is a choice of the developer. You can send comments about iCal to Apple through this page http://www.apple.com/macosx/feedback/ .
    Alternatively, you could make the events into all day events. They would then show on all the dates in month view.
    Best wishes
