ICal opening on it's own

I've been using Entourage on my iMac G4 for a couple of years now. I don't use iCal at all. Recently, I've had this problem where iCal opens automatically. When I close it, it will open again automatically. I've check the preferences and it isn't set to open at Startup and I don't see any other settings that might cause this behavior.
I can't recall if I made any changes prior to when it started happening. It's possible that it might have started after the last update to Entourage.

I am getting more confident that the problem has something to do with a background synchronization process. If I launch either Entourage or iSync, iCal launches also automatically. Perhaps there is a sync preference somewhere that got fouled up?
Can anyone verify that launching Entourage or iSync also triggers iCal to launch on its own?

  • Keeping Mail & iCal open

Is there any way to prevent an app. from being quit without first entering a password? I want to keep Mail & iCal open at all times, but my colleague keeps quitting rather than hiding them.

    Hello Andy.
No there isn't and the best way to resolve this situation is by creating a computer login account for your colleague with or without admin privileges as you see fit.
OS X was designed for multiple computer users in this way with each user/login account having their own Home folder/directory to store their data only and protecting it from other users. Each user's Home folder/directory includes a Shared folder to place documents, etc. that need to be shared between multiple user login accounts.
Each user/login account can have their own Desktop wallpaper, screen saver, settings, etc. to make it seem as if the Mac is their own and your colleague can quit Mail and iCal after being opened to his/her content without affecting anything already open in your login account.
Enabling Fast User Switching makes the process of switching between user login accounts a fast and easy process which doesn't require quitting any applications in a user's login account when switching to another account.

  • ICal opens with Delegate Calendar

I made a few changes to my iCal installation, trying to retrieve some Exchange calendars that I have shared access to and get my calendar colors to match on my iPad and iPhone.  Now when I open iCal, it defaults to a shared Google calendar, rather than my main calendar view.  What did I change, and how can I change it back?  I've already tried closing the program with the main calendar view open, no change on the next open.

Found my own solution right after posting my question...I selected my delegate calendar from the window menu, and simply "closed" it.  Now iCal opens with the main calendar view.

  • Why is iCal "Open File" not working?

I have created an Automator application called "MyActions" that works correctly when I click on it in my Application section.
I am trying to get this application to run once a week using the iCal "Open File" alert.
I have set up an event that repeats every Monday at 7:30am and I have set up an alert that opens the file "MyActions" 1 minute after the event, but it does not appear as though the application runs.
    Help appreciated.
    Regards,
    -jP

It appeared that it just took some time before Calendar actually got around to the event that had the "Open File" instruction.
I did confirm that I created an application and not a workflow.  Thanks for the sanity check.

  • ICal opens although when I click week view iCal unexpectedly quits

    Dear colleague:
    May I have your help?
I will appreciate if somebody help me on this issue described bellow.
    Details of the crash:
    iCal opens smoothly.
I go to the month view and all appointments appears right correctly.
Right after clicking week view (button in the toolbar), iCal opens the week view yet seconds after it unexpectedly quits sending automatically reports to Apple.
Hoping to have any help very soon
    Thx

    IcemanKo70,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
First, refresh the the com.apple.iCal.plist file. You will find the com.apple.iCal.plist file in your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder. Quit iCal, drag the com.apple.iCal.plist file to your Desktop, log out/in or restart.
Then before restarting iCal, open System Preferences...>Language & Text>Formats>Region: and set/reset the appropriate region.

  • Why is 11.1.3 opening all on its own?

The app is opening randomly on its own and even after I close the app and force close it in some instances, it continuously opens and I can't accomplish a thing as it starts playing music...and randomly starts and stops the song. It is very weird and annoying. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks a ton!

my iTunes has stopped the annoying issue... but I have no idea how I stopped it.  I think, after I downloaded iTunes from the App store again - it took another 2 days and rectified itself.  Sorry I can't be of help and hope you all manage to have this issue resolved.

  • Itunes opens on it's own when headphones connected

Itunes opens on it's own when headphones are connected and also starts/stops playing on it's own completely randomly.
Extremely annoying - No problems at all when headphones are not connected.
Crazy - Surely Apple must be aware of this and create a fix.

Let them finish downloading. It's going to keep doing it until you do.
Then look on the Summary tab - is that your account listed? Were you charged for them?
Who knows, maybe iTS support put them in your DL queue by mistake. I can tell you I'm not getting them, so it's not happening to everyone!

  • ITunes 11.0.1 keeps opening up on its own.

Hi all. I have Win 7 64 bit. I have disabled wifi synch I beleive as well as home sharing. Would appreciate any help from anyone as its driving me nuts.
iTunes will invariably open up on its own no matter what I am doing. if I close it, then in 15 mins or so will do it again.
I've learned to just keep it open as a stop-gap measure but hope someone can offer some advice.
    Thanks

    Woohoo !
It's nothing to worry about and it's certainly not a virus (there aren't any that affect Macs) - it's the icon from an application in your Utilities folder called X11. You can safely click on it, drag it off the dock and it will disappear in a puff of smoke. If it has a a little blue blob under it it means that the app is open so click and hold the icon on the dock and select quit and then drag it off the dock.
It's also worth looking in System Preferences>Users & Groups (if you're on Lion) Accounts (if you're Leopard/Snow Leopard) and click on the Login items tab and check X11 isn't listed. If it is, click on the minus sign to remove it from startup items.
Not sure what X11 is for, I've never used it, but I think it might be something to do with programming (probably wrong though )
Edited to add: Looking at your pic again it has got a blob under it so I reckon it's launching at startup, so do as I suggest with login items or click and hold the icon on the dock and deselect 'Open at Login' under 'Options'.

  • HELP HELP. My iCal opens only for 5 seconds an then it closes....

Since yesterday May 27, my iCal opens only for 5 seconds and then it closes automatically.... I also have hte Missing Sync for Windows Mobile that is a software that sync my pocketpc to my computer.. it was working very well until yesterday.... it's strange... it started saying me that there were a conflict between the information in my pocket pc and my iCal, but it was usual to have this conflict but i have ersed that information but it still have problems.... i tried erasing the file com.apple.iCal.plist but it still with problems....

    See the not-charging topic of:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
    Have you tried another cable?
Another charging source? Does iTunes see the iPod when you connect to your computer?
Look at the dock connector on the iPod. Look for abnormalities like bent or corroded contacts, foreign material and cracked or broken plastic.

  • Finder suddenly started opening folders in their own window

    Hi everyone,
I'm wondering if anyone knows what might cause Finder to suddenly start opening folders in their own window even though the Finder preference to do that is unchecked? Before this started happening, all folders would open in the same window (the default behavior).
This happens whether I have my external keyboard plugged in or not and I've verified that the Command, ALT & Control keys are not stuck in any way on both the MBP keyboard and the external keyboard. I've also shutdown the MBP and restarted just to be sure.
Ideas? Is there a command line setting that I should look at or some config file that would tell me if it's incorrectly set?
    Rey...

    Two things to try:
    1) check the box in Finder > Preferences > General tab, then relaunch Finder, then go back and UNcheck that box, and relaunch Finder again (to relaunch Finder, hold the option key and click-and-hold the Finder icon in the dock, then select Relaunch, or use Apple menu > Force Quit)
    2) trash the file ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist, then restart (the OS will recreate the plist file; sometimes they become corrupt)

My 3GS exploded, literally. It cracked open on it's own might be because of the battery. I placed it in my bag pack & next morning when i took it back it was exploded. I gone through some of the blogs where they mention it is becuase of battery.

it's not an explotion it's a defect with the battery which makes it expand and breaking the case in the process but it's not an explotion and it is not so fast it can cause harm

iCal appears in Dock.... with July 17 on the date icon?
How can I have iCal open on startup?....thereby showing the

Go to System Preferences/Accounts/Login Items, click +, and browse to Applications/iCal. You will probably want to select hide.

  • When I open Mail.app, iCal opens as well...

When I open Mail.app, iCal opens as well - there are no prefs that I can find to turn this off... it started a while ago.
    Any ideas?

MailTags will open iCal by default when launching Mail. This can be turned off in the MailTags Preferences. Open Mail's prefs, locate the MailTags Preferences (you may need to click >> in the top right) and select the calendar tab.

MY iPad 2 opens browsers on their own and starts typing out of no where, how can I fix this problem?

    Try a reboot,
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
