ICal Questions

Dear Guys,
I have upgraded to Mountain Lion a week ago.   iCal has been so far a pain in the butt.
1.   I have set iCal to open an excel file for me every morning so that I can record my blood pressure.  It opens the first day, but never opens in the following days.
2.   The new iCal reminder does not allow me to SNOOZE for a specific time.
3.   When I set a new iCal event, e.g., if I type "8/10/2012; 10:00PM; Lunch with Boss", the first part "8/10/2012; 10:00PM" will be gone.   I need to retype the thing again, then, it stays.
All the above three things never happened to me before the upgrade.
Any idea?
Jimmy

As long as we're addressing the woes of the 'new' iCal, I'd been using the app to launch Pandora (in Safari) as an alarm in the morning. Here's something I've found, which may or may not apply to your difficulties: iCal insists on displaying a desktop alert at the alarm time, and this seems to interfere with the requested alert of opening Pandora. I can't find a way to prevent the desktop alert from coming up. If I MOVE the time of the alarm manually (after it's been blocked by the desktop alert), it opens fine. The question is this: how do I stop iCal from providing the desktop alert? Nothing in Preferences seems to apply.

  • ICal questions, maybe going into applescript question

Hello, I am trying to create a recurring ICAL event with different titles for a time period.  It is simple, I want on monday of everyweek tor 7 monthes to read, week1, week2, week3 etc.  Is this possibe in ICAL, or possible via applescript (beginner applescripter)?
    Thanks!

All do-able in DVDSP... and pretty easy to do as well.
You can create the menus with links to the chapters in your track (which will play the chapter and then continue), you can set the chapters into stories and point the menu buttons to those instead and you can set each story to go back to the right menu.
You can then point a play all button at the track itself, which will then play all... which hopefully answers mish's question as well as yours.
Much of this is in the tutorials that come with DVDSP, and it is well worth your time going through those if you haven't already moved up to DVDSP. There is a lot of help available on this forum as well, mind you!

  • Possibly dumb iCal question...

Hi I apologize in advance if this is a stupid question, but I can't seem to find a way around it.
We have a Leopard Server and several Leopard clients, what I would like is some central calendars that everyone has the ability to edit. I can do this using the web calendars that leopard server creates based on security groups but what I really need is the ability to have calendars connected to everyone's iCal that multiple people can edit.
So for example in my iCal I create an appointment and then someone else in their own iCal (on a different machine) can go in and edit/ delete that same appointment.
Is there currently a way to do this using leopard that anyone has successfully done, ideally it would need to work for multiple calendars and be hosted on the server. It seems like it should be REALLY easy. I hope it is and I just haven't figured it out yet...
Thanks for the help in advance!

    Hi
Ideally the Server should be an OD Master, DNS must be running somewhere on the network with appropriate records created. Of course iCal and Web Services should also be running. Once you have done that you join the clients to the LDAP Directory using Directory Utility. You don't have to use the Server as the main DNS Server for the clients but it works better if you do. You don't have to use authenticated directory binding and you don't need to create home folders or log in to networked accounts. Next launch iCal > Preferences > Accounts and click + icon. In the user name field key in a user name (must be the shortname) that exists in the LDAP node. It should autofill for you. You should not need to do anything else apart from supplying the password.
Once the calendar has been created you can delegate who can access it. To delegate you simply use the same method in creating the account to find other users. If DNS is as it should be it should autofill. By the side of each name is a tickbox as well as options to define read/write access. You should now be able to see each other's calendars, see changes as well as make changes. They should be able to do the same with yours.
Although the iCal Admin Manual so far has been next to useless - although to be fair it has been updated recently so maybe they may contain something useful? - you should download it as it should list further options you may be interested in. I would also download the Command Line Manual as well. You are going to need it.

  • ICal Question

FIrst, I just attempted to make an iCal entry under Apple's topics to select from and it does not provide a link or icon to "post a new question"?? whats up with that? So I thought I would visit a reliable source for info please... the iPhone discussion grp...
Ok, in the past yr we have all experienced a couple of chg's to iCal and entering in events, mtg's, etc. and new ways of "editing" these events already entered. I just discovered moments ago, yet another "change" to this "newly enhanced" iCal application that I do not feel is user friendly and curious if anyone can tell me what I am missing when needing to "edit" an existing entry please.
I simply wanted to edit the alert notice and add directions into a note accompanying this app't. and find this utterly complex and not achievable. Supposedly one only needs to double-click on the event/app't and then go to EDIT (I only see the EDIT in the above tool bar...), I selected Edit... and expected to visually view a screen to make my chg's... but alas, nothing!!! I then had to use my imagination, delete (back space) what the name of the appt was, then typed a new name for it... and seconds later the old appt name disappeared and the new appt name appeared in its place. I still can't access the alert notification chg's.... prior to this upgrade there was visible EDIT button that appeared when you selected an appt and this no longer is present. Is it me, or am I suppose to enjoy this "newly enhanced" iCal feature that is "useless"?? I really hope it is me and that there are some small print instructions not readily seen...

    Hi Kevin:
Yup, tried that. Using the "show results" window, I can see that Automator is finding events that meet my date range criteria, and Automator also creates a new calendar as directed. There just seems to be a disconnect between finding the events and actually doing something with those events.
Also, I'm not clear on the differences between the actions "Find", "Filter", and "Get". All seem very similar, and the on-screen descriptions are not all that helpful in distinguishing the differences. None of these seem to make much of a difference on my task.
    Anyone?
    Thanks in advance.

  • TS3999 iCloud/iCal question?

I started using iCloud on my Mac, iPhone, & iPad. iCal on Mac and iPad use iCloud only & info is outdated & incorrect. iPhone uses "from my mac" & has most updated/correct info. How can I sync all 3 devices to use this correct cal? Thanks in advance!

Is it possible that the "Delete events 30 days after they have passed" advanced preference got turned on in iCal somehow?

  • PC Switcher iCal question

In my Outlook calendar, it is very easy to attach a document to an event. This is useful when you need to reference data.
In iCal, when I drag a document to the information pane for an event, it converts the doc to the file location. Clicking on this won't open the file??
I assume that I am missing something as this seems like a "must have" feature in a Calendar.
    Thanks for any help.

    Thanks,
That does work, and it opened the referenced doc. Much appreciated.
I tried to do more than one doc, and it simply replaced the first one.
I don't often have multiple docs per event, but it is nice to be able to drag and drop docs and/or spreadsheets to an event and have that info easy to reference next year. I think outlook has a leg up in this respect....

  • HT2513 iCal question

Is there a way to keep past events on my iCal? It looks like my events are deleted after they occur

Your iCal password is your iCloud password (if you are syncing it with iCloud). Many people have  different login for iCloud to that for iTunes, and it's easy to get them confused. Is this the case here?

  • OS X ical question

I'm running OS 10.8.2 on my MacBook and want to know if their is any way to change the default print font to "Big" from "Small"?  I've seen this question asked before but can't find an answer.  Wes

Click "View" menu in the Calendar menu bar.
Select "Make Text Bigger"  to increase the font size.
Select "Make Text Smaller" to decrease the font size.
    or
Press command + "+" (plus key) to increase the font size.
Press command + "-"  (minus key) to decrease the font size.
    Best.

  • Stupid iCal questions..

    Hi all..
Now that I've got a shiny new SLS on a Mac Mini Server, I figured I'd try to make the best of the new features in the SLS product.. So, I've installed AtMail as a replacement for Squirrelmail so I can use the calendar features (and possibly have a better Webmail experience the SM offers) of SLS while I'm away from the server directly. To that end, I've also got a few iPhones that I regularly sync on one account on the SLS.. What I've found (I've not read up in iTunes to see if it can sync to the SLS iCal server) is that all of my calendar entries are sync'd against the regular 'local' only copy of the iCal data -- not on the iCal server. I was able to configure iCal to connect to the iCal server and it supposedly sync'd at periodic intervals but when I use AtMail's Calendar feature it sees none of those appointments, meeting notices,etc.. All is empty.. Is there something I'm missing with this?
Overall, I'm pretty impressed with SLS and what it offers.. It's a bit different to manage than what I was used to with my FreeBSD8 server which will be decommissioned once I'm done with my SLS setup/config..

    Good to hear it!
Now get busy making some sawdust!

  • ICal questions/bugs/problems?

    1. When I enter something in the month format I double click and the name area appears. Sometimes this area immediately names itself new topic and puts a start time in on its own. I then have to edit the space in order to get the material I want into the space.
    2. When I go to enter times my start time is always 11:00 PM - can this be changed to 11:00 AM?
    3. How do you get a calender on .mac so that I could go and view it from my .mac account? Or can I only sync ical through .mac and not post it in a viewable format from there. I know it has a web page you can make but so far I can see no way to view it from .mac only from that page which is difficult to remember.

    nq00,
A couple of quick work arounds I've personally implemented.
1.) Convert to HTTP, configure changes, convert back to HTTPS. Not secure or ideal, but it gets the job done.
2.) SSH to an internal device (you'll have to enable port forwarding in the router), use that tunnel as a SOCKS proxy to connect to the E3200 UI. This solves the security concerns, but still not ideal and a pain to set up if you are not familar with SOCKS or SSH.

  • IPod Classic synch with iCal question

I have 6 calendars in my iCal and I have iTunes set to synch All Calendars into my iPod 160GB Classic. It's only synching 2 of the 6. Turning all on and off and any other combination I've tried either removes all (the 2) or synchs just the 2. I want all 6 calendars in the iPod. Does anyone have a solution? Thank you for your help

I have the same problem, some calendars will sync while others refuse. I cannot find any consistency although it appears that the multi-day entries transfer OK.

  • ICal question (couldn't find that category)

uh, how do I print one month of iCal, in Portrait ? With Saturday and Sunday on either side?
Every time I print now, it comes out as landscape, which is not what my boss asked for and now my job is on the line. Portrait would be great - - in an easy way to do so.
    Also, thanks!

You may get an answer here, but you'll have more luck at the iCal forum,
    http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=166
where people who know lots about this stuff hang out. I looked, and iCal seems to print only in landscape. If I had to, I might print it as a pdf, and then import the file into another program that would print it the way I wanted-- I use GraphicConverter a lot for that sort of thing. But you'll get good advice at that iCal forum.

  • ICal question; my calendar displays the week beginning on Mondays, but when I print it, the week begins on Tuesdays...how can I fix this?

My iCal display shows the week beginning on Mondays, but when I print it, the week starts on Tuesdays.  How can I fix this?

Grrrrr only just upgraded to Yosemite and I gather from the above posts that this glitch has still not been sorted out!  Have to go to settings and set start of week to Sunday to get it to print starting Monday - that's mad! Come on Apple sort it out.  Have to keep switching back and forth as I have to print out iCal for my accounts.  Cross face
