ICal server and Email invitation config

Hi all,
I'm trying to setup email invitation with an external mail service (GMAIL.com). I used config informations from gmail (the same from mail app) but I got "IMAP factory connection failed".
Exactly the error log reports: "[*twistedcaldav.mail.IMAP4DownloadFactory#error] IMAP factory connection failed*"
Can someone help me?
Thanks

an update:
I'm using google APP for my mail domain. My actual setting are:
Mail Server Type: IMAP
Email Address: [email protected]
Incoming Mail Server: imap.google.com
Port: 993 Use SSL, checked
User Name: [email protected]
Password: PlainTextPassword
Outgoing Mail SMTP: smtp.gmail.com
Port: 587 Use SSL, checked
Server requires authentication Checked
User Name: [email protected]
Password: PlainTextPassword
With these settings, ical server log answer with an IMAP connection failed. I can't send email invitation.
Anyone can help me?

    Hello Daryn,
Thinks for commenting. I am very upset that Apple just said "No" when I asked for this to be fixed. There appears to be no way to submit this as an official bug that keeps ical from running.
Apple actually had me reinstall my whole server and the issue was still there and then they just said "Oh, well I will email someone about it.".
This is the first time Apple has stunk it up in my books. This is bad support for Server.

  • ICal server and external invitations via 3rd party mail server

    Hi everyone,
    OS 10.6.5 Server:
    Services running
    AFP
    DNS
    iCal
    Open Directory
    Push Notification
We are currently testing iCal server and have configured it to send out invites via our mail server (which is running on a different server) by creating the com.apple.calendarserver user on our mail server.
Email notifications are then configured under the Enable Email Invitations tab in the iCal service of Server Admin as follows:
    IMAP
    Email address: [email protected]
    Incoming server: mail.mytest.com
    Port: 143 (not using SSL)
    Username: com.apple.calendarserver
    Password: secret
    SMTP: mail.mytest.com
    Port: 25 (not using SSL)
    Server requires authentication
    Username: com.apple.calendarserver
    Password: secret
My test OD users are able to send out invites both internally to other iCal users and externally via email.
So for example, I invite someone to a meeting and enter their gmail address ([email protected]), the invitation goes out correctly - when I log into gmail I see the invitation.
When responding to the invitation (clicking Yes), the mail server receives the response from gmail and the iCal server collects the message via IMAP.
However, the iCal server doesn't seem to parse the received email correctly as I get the following error in the iCal error logs:
[twistedcaldav.extensions#info] Cannot authenticate proxy user 'com.apple.calendarserver' without X-Authorize-As header

I have set a rule on our mail server to bypass any spam filtering for all messages sent to the [email protected] address, but this doesn't seem to make any difference.
Does anyone else have this working ? Any ideas ?
    Many thanks

The issue is not "user authorization". The issue is that the 3rd-party service does not accept all incoming relay requests unless there is authentication with a registered account (which we have). This protects the 3rd-party service from becoming the relaying host for the universe's spoofed and anonymous spam. My deduction is that there is no mechanism in UTL_MAIL to designate not only the 3rd-party ip-address:port (by-passing the local sendmail server) but also providing the username:password for the account there for authentication.
Plan A: I have attempted to follow directions for client-side SMTP Authentication for Relaying on the sendmail.org site.
I have not been successful in completing a simple mailx interactive test, much less completing a UTL_MAIL configuration.
I am scouring the user universe for someone who has put all the pieces together successfully and can advise. . . .

to clarify that I cannot get from UTL_MAIL to 3rd-party IP directly

  • Calendar Server and Email Server on Same Machine - Email Issue

    Hi.
I've installed email and calendar on the same host. The email domain for test purposes is the name of the machine. I noticed in the configuration guide, it says that if you put the calendar server and email server on the same machine you need to configure sendmail.cf and modify incoming rules in order to get email reminders from Calendar to Email. I have done this but am still not able to. I get the emails kicked back to root and they say:
    553 5.3.5 System Config Errors
553 5.3.5 <machine name> config error: mail loops back to me (MX problem?)
    Has someone seen this before?
    Thank You,
    Matt

    Hi Russ,
We have the same problem as Matt.
We have properly set up OCS Email it works well both inside and outside our network.
The only thing that appears not to be working is the email notification capabilities of OCS Calendar.
We have changed sendmail.cf as stated in the documentantion.
    we are using -
    RedHat Advanced Server 2.1,
    sendmail 8.11.6
    bind 9.1.3
I would be very gratefull of any information on this, as we're out of ideas...

  • Mail, iCal Server and iChat server will not work over VPN

I have an Airport Extreme Base Station at the office running the network. Behind it sits a Mac Mini Snow Leopard server running 10.6.3. The ports necessary for Mail, iCal Server and iChat work fine through that external connection. I can also connect with VPN from my 10.6.3 clients.
HOWEVER, when I connect with the VPN clients, I am suddenly unable to access the Mail, iCal Server, Wiki server and iChat server. All connections time out. I can ping the server and I can do other things that do NOT work on the public Airport like ssh or VNC. ssh and VNC are closed at the airport extreme.
So it's pretty odd. When I'm connected via the VPN, all ports that are forwarded to the Snow Leopard server time out over the VPN.
I've tried various and sundry configurations with the VPN client. This includes trying to send all traffic over the VPN, moving it up in the service order, etc. etc. Nothing fixes it. DNS resolution is working fine, however when I do a wireshark capture of ppp0 traffic, I notice that SSL and TLSv1 handshakes appear to occur on the public IP address instead of the private network IP address... and they're all resets.
Has anyone gotten this to work successfully? Like I said, all ports that are NOT forwarded through the Airport work fine over the VPN, but will not work when connected to the VPN. It's really bizarre.

New data: any ports that are normally forwarded on the Airport Extreme to the Mac Mini server will not work when connected to the VPN.
For instance, if I have imaps/993 forwarded from the Airport Extreme to the Mac Mini, it works fine over the Internet. If I connect to the VPN, I can connect to all OTHER services on the Mac Mini, but Mail, for instance, will not work.

  • 10.5 iCal Server User having invite issues and 403 errors.

I have a 10.5 iCal server running. One user has constant problems. I've made a new account and the issue persists. A lot of 403 errors. People can't always invite him. He can't always invite others. Most invitees show up with "!" by their names. The log is showing that his folder in the CalendarServer can't be found (though sometimes it is) and that he is not enabled in the Calendar SACL, though the main group he belongs to is enabled.
    Thoughts and suggestions are appreciated.

No solution, gave the 10.5 user an Intel Mac running Snow Leopard.

  • Calendar events created in iCal sending multiple email invites to invitees

    Background:
    Google Apps domain account
Lion and Snow Leopard iCal users syncing to Google Calendar
    Problem:
1.A Lion user creates a new iCal event and invites multiple people to the event.  The event is created and then an email invitation is sent to all invitees.  Each invitee receives 6 - 10 email notices about the evet.
    2. the event organizer changes the event time, multiple email notices go out to all invitees (6-10 emails each).
What is causing this problem and is there a way to fix it?

  • ICal Server and Python causing max CPU usage on 10.5.1 server

We are having an issue with iCal Server where a python process is monopolizing the CPU (70%-95%) to the point everything grinds to a halt. Once iCal is stopped, then started again it will be ok for anywhere from 10 minutes to a few hours before it starts all over again.
caldavd error Log is being bombarded with what looks like every transaction. See example below:

This may be completely unrelated, but the DirectoryService process seems to be running high (35%-40%) as well.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Fun Facts:
    G5 Xserve - Dual 2.0

    Mac OS 10.5.1 Server
DNS seems to be in working order

Server is running with a FQDN and functioning kerberos. The only thing regarding python twisted framework or close to it is when iCal server starts.

  • Ical server and google calendar

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has found a way to have a google calendar run the same way in ical as ical server so that all everyone can view the google calendar through ical server.
We currently have our calendar on google calendar and would love to migrate it across to our server.

  • Ical, mail, and email notifications to events -- how to turn off

I do not use iCloud and do not want to have iCal send email when I accept into my calendar an event invitation or modify one.
Every time I accept an event, iCal tries to launch Mail, which I do NOT use for email (Thunderbird instead). I have already replied to who i want to reply to about whether I will participate in invitations and do NOT want iCal to respond.
I could tolerate iCal asking me whether it wants to respond or not, but can find no preferences or other modifications to control what iCal is doing.
This is very frustrating. Absent a fix, I believe I will have to abandon Apple software for calendaring and other applications.
    Any suggestions???

Update - I finally discovered that you can unflag a message in the Flagged category, so that issue is resolved. I would still like to remove the VIP category in Mail completely, right now it is still at the bottom of my email addresses and that's the best that I can come up with. Anyone else come up with anything?

  • ICal, iCloud, and meeting invitation woes

Hi all. Fair warning - I'm brand new to the Mac world. I'm a long-time Windows user who now has a shiny new MacBook Pro, primarily for the benefit of what I can already tell is superior hardware.
On the software side, however, I'm struggling with the migration. I've solved most of my issues, but one is really eluding me. I have Office 2011, including Outlook, but I keep being told by Mac users that Outlook on the Mac is buggy and is inferior to using iCal, Apple Mail, and Address Book. Ok, I'll bite. I've been trying to use these tools as my primary means for handling my mail and calendar needs. This is where I run into trouble.
My world of data, like most people's, is split into two:  work and personal. For personal, I primarly use google tools including google calendar and gmail. For work, I have an IMAP mail system with a work e-mail account, but we have no work-based calendar server. I have an iPad2 and an iPhone4. This is all relevant because what I want is to have mail and events, both work and personal, synchronized and accessible across all my devices over "the cloud." The personal side is easy enough to handle. I added my google calendar to iCal, just like I added it on my phone and iPad, so no worries there. E-mail, similarly, is simple enough. The issue is when I try to figure out how to handle my work calendar.
My first thought was iCloud - but my Apple ID, used by iCloud is based on my personal e-mail account (gmail). I've found that when I try to add an event to my iCloud "work" calendar in iCal and invite attendees (a very very common practice in my business world), the invitation comes from my gmail account and my gmail account is listed as the organizer of the event. This is a huge problem for me. In searching online, people suggest all sorts of different ways of solving this. Re-ordering the e-mail addresses on the "Me" contact card in Address Book. Re-ordering the accounts in Mail. I even went as far as deleting my gmail account from both Mail and Address Book. Nothing works. I'm assuming that because the event is created in iCloud, that the organizer is set to the Apple ID that is associated with the iCloud account, and there seems to be nothing I can do about that.
My second thought was to create another Apple ID and use that one to create a new iCloud calendar for my work life, but I'm under the impression that you can't have more than one iCloud account actively syncing on an iPhone or iPad.
My current solution is to have a calendar that is only "On My Mac" that I create work events on. I've found that if I have Mail set to send new messages, by default, from my work e-mail address, then new meeting invitations on the Mac-only calendar are sent on behalf of my work account, with my work account listed as the organizer. This solution, while working on the Mac itself, does not solve my synchronization issues with my iPhone and iPad. I suppose I could sync through iTunes, but my calendar is so active that I'd really prefer to have a cloud-based solution.
All that being said - is there a cloud-based solution to having both a personal and work calendar, with each calendar being associated with different e-mail addresses? Is there any way to change the e-mail account associated with a specific calendar in either iCal or iCloud? If not, there probably should be!
Thanks in advance for any help!

    Hello there.
Exact same situation here. Do you have a solution yet? Also for me its not acceptable to send meeting invitations from my personal account which is also my apple id...

Another problem I have with calendar that's I can't send invitation to contacts I have added in CardDav Server, just I can send invitations to local contacts.
And another question how to sync the user's contacts with CardDav account?

this is a big pain in the ***, bug!
when you have more than one calendar account (lets say one local one CalDAV iCal starts doing silly things.
what i found that worked is click on the calendar you want the event to be in and drag the .ics to iCal from Mail and drop it on the calendar (in the middle of iCal NOT the Calendars name)
i have write up a bug report to apple so hopefully it gets fixed now that MobileMe uses CalDAV.
seems to be a problem that mail app doesn't see CalDAV calendars.

  • Is there a way to force ical to send email invites?

I am not an expert but here is what I think is happening.
I create a new calendar event.
I then add attendees that I want to invite.
The attendees e-mail address is what they have set up as their iCloud ID.
The attendees do NOT use iCloud as their calendar (FYI I have NO way to know this ahead of time).
Because the attendees are registered in iCloud instead of receiving an e-mail notification of the event the notification is just added to their iCloud calendar (which they NEVER check).
End result is that the people I have invited to the event NEVER see the invite.
I would like to be able to force the calendar app to send e-mail notifications and NOT use iCloud. However, I am using iCloud personally to sync my calendar between my iPhone and MacBook.
I think that if all the people I invite would go into their iCloud calendar and select the option to receive event invitations as e-mail and not as in-app notifications all would be good. It is just NOT realistic for me to require all the people I invite to events to make this change.
    Thanks
    Jamie

Correct me if I'm wrong here:
<code>jQuery.data()</code> saves the <code>{"foo": "bar"}</code> JSON object to variable <code>data</code>, and then the <code>s.tl()</code> call sends <code>data</code> to the server, right?
You could use jQuery's [http://api.jquery.com/event.preventDefault/ <code>event.preventDefault()</code>] method to stop the browser from automatically following the link on click. You could wait until the Ajax request was finished before following the link.

I hope that solved your problem!

  • OS X Server and Email

Setting up a Mac Mini OS X Server on the home network. There are just two of us, and we're both happily set with Apple's ME.COM email service on six devices - 2 iPhones, 2 iPads, 2 Mac desk tops. What advantage is there in using the Mac Mini Server email?

I still have my iCloud subscription, although I do run 4 servers in a data center.
Running your own mail server means you must keep the server running 24-7, this is something you may or may not like.
Then there is the issue of the stable connection, reverse DNS (which is not normally available to be set for home users) and your provider may block port 25 TCP, which you need to communicate to other mail servers on the net.
The latter can be overcome by using your ISP's mail relay or letting a service (like DynDNS or DNSMadeEasy) send mail over an alternative port and converting that port back using an Airport Extreme.
If you want more info about any of these, I'll glad to help.

  • Web Server and Email Server

Suppose my web site www.MySite.com is hosted in a Web Server (IP: 123.45.6.7). My email account is: [email protected], which is hosted by an Email Sever (IP:10.12.14.6). Obviously they are two separate machines.
How can my email has the same DOMAIN (name) MySite.com as my web site has?
    Thanks to help.
