ICal server broken after SSL renewal

SSL was about to expire so I setup a new SSL. Assigned it to all of the services requiring the SSL. I can bind computers okay, but cannot authenticate to iCal or Addressbook server. The error states that it can see the caldav server, but the username or password is incorrrect. I've reset the user passwords and no go. It has to do something with the SSL, but can't figure out what. Any advice?

Finally found the error. Somehow a setting for Digest authentication had changed to
Calendar:Authentication:Digest:Qop = "auth"
after changing it back to
Calendar:Authentication:Digest:Qop = ""
everything works well again!

  • Ical server disclaims after security update 2009-006 (Server)

    hi
after i update the leopardserver 10.5.8 to the actual security update 2009-006 (Server), the ical server was not available anymore. the ical client say something like "host disclaims access".
i tried to restinstall 10.5.8 combo update and disc repair. but that doesnt work, and to disactivate firewall for a try.
anybody an idea how to fix this?
    thanks!

  • Need Recover earlier iCal Server Data after Failed 3.2.1

After a nightmare updating from 10.6.8 Server to 10.9 Server a couple off months back when we had a hardware failure.  We ended up with endless Open Directory errors mostly caused by Apple's botched migration tool and hours spent at the terminal solving these.
We updated to 3.2.1 on Friday night prior to knowing about the Postgres fail it causes.  The server ran normally with mail/filesharing/open directory etc. and we opened up the ports to it.
By Saturday morning I started getting text messages from users saying that their calendars were missing.  As it was the weekend and little important commercial email had come in, I rolled back the system using the Server Restore Time Machine instructions Restoring OS X Server from a Time Machine backup to a few hours before the update and everything seemed fine.  Mail and calendars were there and the mail data definitely corresponded to the time of backup.
Unfortunately on Monday morning I started to get reports from users that while the older calendar events were present, recent data from the last week or so appeared to be missing.  I have restored repeatedly trying from many different backups (at 1.5 hrs per try) and the same issue arrises.  A lot of these calendar events are crucial to our business.
One I'm super annoyed that Apple let this update out at all.   What on earth is going on over there??! I'm seriously considering shifting to a more stable supplier/platform. Two I'm annoyed that I let it go live (But I don't see how I could have check all users individual calendar events) ... and three ... I need a way to test calendar data from lots of Time Machine backups without restoring the whole system each time.  I've been up 30+ hours.  Apple's instructions don't work.  I think I can see where the Calendar Data is stored ( Macintosh HD/Library/Server/Calendar and Contacts).
Is there a way to just recover this data? by means of
Switching Off the Calendar service > Transfer Data > Switch On Calendar Service
I don't mind the terminal.... obviously I'm a Mac user so would prefer GUI say by using CCC.
    Please HELP!  Apple isn't!

  • Xorg-server broken after upgrade to 1.6.3.901-1

    Hello,
After upgrading to xorg-server 1.6.3.901-1 and rebooting the computer xorg-server respawned repeatedly very fast and I was unable to exit except for pressing the power button (I had runlevel 5 set in /etc/inittab). Then I set the runlevel to 3 in /etc/inittab (using a liveCD), logged in and typed startx. The terminal became black except for a grey cursor in the top left of the screen and I was unable to exit except for pressing the power button.
The previous version of xorg-server is no longer in the pacman cache because I cleared it.
    Thanks.

    Hi,

Why you don't use NVIDIA drivers? It's very nice from your side to use open source dirver but you have any problem's with NVIDIA drivers?
Here you have topic with same issue and drivers:

  • Ical gui broken after upgrading to Lion.

None of the on screen buttons or controls respond to clicking or double clicking, although the menu bar commands still work. At this point everything must be created from the menu bar. Has anyone seen this problem or have any suggestions?

    jgmoore,
Application UI issues are in many cases, caused by a corrupt plist file.
Quit iCal, and try removing the com.apple.iCal.plist file from your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder. Since that Library is now hidden, you have to use the Finder>Go Menu>Depress the "Option" key>Library. Drag the .plist file to your desktop, and log out/in or restart and check iCal for functionality.

  • Ical server/client suddenly stopped working together

    Hi
I have 10.6.1 server with a group calendar served on a wiki. There are multiple users using 10.6.1 macbook, using ical to display/edit the group calendar. Server has a correctly configured FQDN. Apart from some niggles (will come to later), all has been fine for the last 2 weeks - all 10.6 clients have been able to connect without problems (to FQDN:8008/principals/wikis/groupadministration ). I do not have SSL. Today, one of the clients could no longer update the group calendar or refresh it (for changes from other people).
The following is in the client system log:
iCal[278] Exception in -[CalDAVAccountRefreshQueueableOperation refreshWithExceptionHandling] :: * -[NSCFString rawInterval]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x165437f0
In the server caldavd error log:
    [caldav-8009] [-] [twistedcaldav.method.propfind#error] Error reading property ('DAV:', 'current-user-privilege-set') for resource /calendars/_uids_/wiki-groupadministration/inbox/: <StatusResponse 401 Access denied while reading property {DAV:}current-user-privilege-set.>
Web access still works for this user.
There have been no changes to any set up and the user in question had no problems in the last 2 weeks, until today. I understand it just "stopped working" this morning - user can offer no further help.
In other niggles (possibly unrelated but if anyone can help):
    * I have an older client, running 10.5.8 with no wish to upgrade to 10.6, as there are some software compatibility issues (Adobe CS2, Parallels 3) and no budge to update software. ical has never been able to connect to the ical server reliably - after the first update/sync, no further updates are possible.
    * It is not possible to disable alarms to the group calendar in ical. Option-i, uncheck the box, and 30 seconds later the box is checked again. Each user has their own "personal" calendar in the group calendar, and some users like to have alarms. It is not possible to disable those alarms for other users.
Hope someone can help. All in all, I am not particularly impressed with SL server.

    Hello all,
since yesterday I'm having the same problem. the server was even not touched the last days.
    Thank you
    Horst

  • How to read client certificate after SSL has be established

    Hi, Folks:
I've established mutual authentication between client and server, how do I go about reading the client certificate on the server side after SSL session has been established? Basically I am trying to read the client name from the client certificate, based on the name, the server will decide what resource the client can access.
    Thanks a lot

I need to know the process clearly... like how to configure ssl serverAs I said, that's not the topic of this thread. It's described in the Javadoc, and it's been covered in this forum, and the forum has a search facility. If you still have a question, start your own thread. Don't hijack other threads about other topics.
Every one knows to read API documentation. If those were clear then I wouldn't ask here for help. Then you need to ask a specific question about something you specifically didn't understand, in a specific thread, in a specific forum. The best reference is the Javadoc. That's what it's for, and reading it is how I learned Java. If you can't understand it maybe you need to make more of an effort. Nobody is going to type it in here again for you in a more comprehensible form (I hope). It's your job to understand the material you have to work with. At the moment you're just asking someone to do your job for you.
And yes this topic may have been covered previously, but its not necessary for me to know what topics are covered in this forum. The question asked in this thread has been answered previously in this thread. Is that too hard to find? The question you asked that hasn't been covered in this thread doesn't belong in this thread. Is that too hard to understand?

  • SSL certificate selection weirdness in iCal server config

I have a wildcard certificate installed via the certificate manager on a 10.5 server, and it's working perfectly with dynamic virtual hosts in apache, with mail via POP3, IMAP and SMTP. However, something odd happens in iCal admin. The certificate popup menu contains:
    No certificate
    Custom Configuration...
    *.example.com
    Default
    Manage Certificates...
So, I select my installed certificate and click save. The certificate popup immediately changes to "Custom Configuration..." and I'm asked whether I want to restart iCal for the change, which I accept.
Connections to iCal work when SSL is off, but if I use an SSL URL like:
    https://ical.example.com:8443/principals/users/myname/
    I get this error:
    Account information not found
Unexpected secure name resolution error (code -9844). The server name ical.example.com may be incorrect.
When SSL is on, non-secure requests just don't respond.
Nothing appears in the iCal server log.
If I select the custom config from the certificate menu, it just shows me the same certificate and key path that the certificate manager does, so I've no idea why it's reverting in the menu when it doesn't in other service admin panels.
The necessary firewall ports are open, though I've tried it with the firewall off just to check.
I've heard that if DNS doesn't have matching forward and reverse resolution the first time iCal is configured, it can screw things up, and I did that, but I've no idea what effect it has.
    Any ideas?
(names have been changed to protect the innocent!)

Sounds like you're looking at the access log.
The error log is the one that would have the funny business listed.
Try switching logs through the dropdown at the bottom of the server-admin ical logs screen.
When I enable SSL and try to visit the page via https://host:8443/ the error log for the ical service shows a number of processes dying with the following error: (replaced real date/time to save time!)
pydir] date/time marking host ('127.0.0.1', 8444) down ([Failure instance: Traceback (failure with no frames): <class 'twisted.internet.error.ConnectionRefusedError'>: Connection was refused by other side: 61: Connection Refused.
    pydir] date/time ])
    pydir] date/time retrying with ('127.0.0.1', 8445)
Then it goes on to repeat the error with 8445 and so on until it reaches 8451. (they look like PID numbers.. not port numbers. see below.) Afterwards I receive:
pydir] date/time no working servers, manager -> aggressive
    pydir] date/time re-adding ('127.0.0.1', 8449) automatically

My iCal has frozen after I tried to paste info from an email into a reminder.  I get a "server reports an error" message with what I tried to paste in the box.  Calendar is frozen and will only close by forcing it.  Any help?

Did another window open with the pasted information?  If so, try hitting "enter/return" key and "delete" key at the same time.  That should get rid of the current action on the ical, the extra window should go bye-bye, and all should be fine with the world.

  • ICal server won't work with SSL certificate

I'm running Leopard Server 10.5.7, and have a GoDaddy SSL certificate installed on the server, which is working fine in Apache, but not for iCal server.
In the Security Certificates section of Server Admin, the certificate shows up properly with the correct hostname, with the correct authority (i.e. not self-signed). I can use the certificate for one of my SSL websites, and it works fine, no browser errors, all works great.
However, if I use Server Admin to enable SSL for iCal server and then select my GoDaddy certificate from the "Certificate" dropdown, the dropdown immediately changes to "Custom Configuration." So I save changes and stop/start the iCal service.
Then I took my iCal clients (which were all working fine without SSL), and in 'Server Settings,' I changed the server address to https (instead of http), and port 8443 (instead of port 8008). But then when I refresh the calendars, iCal throws an error saying:
"Unexpected secure name resolution error (code -9844). The server name may be incorrect."
When I set everything back to the way it was before I started, all works fine.
    Anyone have any suggestions?

Your problem seems similar to this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1992033&tstart=0
There is some contradictory anecdotal information there, however. Tis reply in another thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=6288712#6288712
may hold some answers to your problem. There are two very enlightening articles on AFP548.com regarding certificate issues:
    http://www.afp548.com/article.php?story=20080624005724638
    http://www.afp548.com/article.php?story=20071203011158936
That might also be of assistance. Then there's this little tidbit:
    http://www.networkjack.info/blog/2007/11/30/ssl-cert-with-subject-alternate-name /
These may-or-may-not solve theproblem but may provide insight as to why it's happening.

  • ICal server not working after restore

    Short version:
I did a clean install on my server. Restored the users & groups and the Library/CalendarServer folder.
I CAN browse my calendar data by going to http://[mydomain]:8008/ in Safari, even drilling right down to individual events.
But iCal, while it seems to login correctly and I don't get any errors, doesn't show any calendars.
Here's the long story with a bit more detail...
    1. got my new server (yay!)
    2. calendar server was working great
    3. three users had multiple calendars, and we shared them with eachother
    4. for reasons unrelated to iCal, I decided to do a clean install.
    5. first I did an "ASR" backup using terminal - to an external hard drive
    6. reinstalled Mac OS X Server version 10.5 (forgot to run software update at this point)
    7. re-entered the users and groups manually, but I was careful to make sure they had the same UID's
    8. used cp command to copy the collaboration folder back from the backup, as well as the CalendarServer folder.
    9. after much difficulty, finally got the wiki server working again
    10. iCal clients could still browse their own calendars (I guess they are cached locally), but were unable to connect to the server (login errors).
    11. realized that I hadn't run software update. I ran it. now running 10.5.3
    12. minor glitch with wikis is now solved... yay!
    13. calendars disappear from all iCal clients when they attempt to connect to server... doh!
    14. and here I am.

The current permission on /Library/CalendarServer/Documents are as follows.
    drwxr-x---@ 2 _calendar admin 68 Jun 30 23:38 Documents
    WebDAV:{DAV:}acl 136

  • ICal Server suddenly broken

I recently had to restore the OD of our production Xserve (10.5.8) with a backup. All seemed to work as expected afterwards - except for the Wiki-groups-Page, which is blank since then. I can still reach my wikis by typing in their group name. iCal is also gone since then. Neither does it fill my wiki calendar with data ("Error processing calendar data (210)") nor can one access their iCal server accounts. DNS and host names are configured correctly. This is, what the caldavd error log tells me:

    Help is appreciated!

Since you had to restore from a backup and the problem is related to Open Directory it may be that your group owner and calendar file owners are not set correctly. By using WGM and the inspector you can check and set your group owner ID. I have also found that by deleting and re-adding the group to the web site panel on group services then restarting the web services can restore the association of files to the correct group.
If you have changed files or structure then there may not be a way back.
    HTH,
    Harry

iCal Server email invitations - how to test and get this feature working
Thanks Apple for introducing this nice little feature into iCal but then completely neglecting to write any sort of useful manual that can explain what to do when it doesn't work after you set it up for the first time.
At long, long last we have finally got there after about 6 months of fiddling on and off, so I thought I had better post up the process since many have similar issues and it is hard to ascertain what is going on.
Using an external email server was just a waste of time and it still wouldn't handle the replies properly even though it was supposed to handle '+addressing'. In the end I set up a special gmail account for the iCal server and finally got it working. I list here the process of configuring and testing the system to check that each little stage is working.
    Set up a Gmail account in Apple Mail to access and test in the usual way for any email account (e.g. [email protected].);
Set the iCal server email to access the same email using the following settings:
    IMAP
    SMTP
    [email protected]
    smtp.gmail.com
    Port: 993 [x] Use SSL
    Port: 587 [x] Use SSL
    User & Pwd
    Login
    User & Pwd
    To test the settings:
    send out a test email from Apple Mail to a non-server email address that you can access to check it has been received;
    send out a test email from your non-server email account to [email protected] and check that it is received;
this tells you that the GMail account is setup correctly and working
    Testing iCal:
    I noted that iCal was deleting any emails that arrive in the inBox in Apple Mail as soon as they arrived (this is to be expected);
    test that the invites are being sent from iCal by setting an event in iCal and inviting your non-server address (you may not see any sign of this in Apple Mail but you should catch it in the iCal server log and possibly in the Gmail sent mail box);
    check that the invite is received at your non-server account and Accept it in iCal on another machine - the reply is automatically sent back;
    the replies appear in Apple Mail but are quickly deleted by iCal. But their record for you to see is left in Gmail under 'All Mail';
Accepted invites appear as a notification button on the top left hand bar on iCal where you click to acknowledge them and then the attendee is shown as a green circled tick instead of a grey circled ?.
this shows that iCal invitations are working correctly. Whenever an event is updated, all invitees should be updated by email automatically.
I hope this helps anyone - I could certainly have done with something similar when I started with looking at this.
    Anatole
The Error and Access logfile in the Server app under iCal server are very useful in determining any errors. I got lots of imip errors when I didn't quite have the settings right. The port is critical and it won't tell you this is the problem if it fails.

    Hello All,
I would like to share my experience with setting up the iCal server and all the hick ups I had to get it finally working. At least what worked for me. Check the basics before you start.
This is all done from after installing the server in Advanced setup or so to say normal installation as it was under Tiger. I'm trying to summarize what I have done. It took me a lot of hours do. So if I mis something feel free to reply with the missing things. Maybe together we can setup a working manual for all others that have problems with the setup and lack documentation from Apple.
    1) Make sure your DNS is setup properly and working. Test it with:
type: “named-checkconf” in de root account of the terminal. Nothing should happen thats OK
type: “named-checkzone” in de root account of the terminal make sure you use the complete path and bare in mind that Apple changed the DNS setup again pointing to something like var/named/zones/db.example.come.zone.apple. The serial of the DNS should load and you should receive a OK. Make sure that your server IP is also mentioned in the system preferences/network DNS so you can use for example the server.example.com in server admin.
    2) Either use SSL or don't when you want to use, use it everywhere otherwise it something will slip trough and want work. Without SSL it appears to work easier in the setup from local iCal client to server. But SSL is of course more secure. I want talk about Kerberos because I'm not able to get that to work yet.
    3) Make sure you set it up from an "Open directory", "Local directory" should/could work to but I haven't test that yet and I seriously doubt it would work properly.
That being said I now can share my setup with you (switch your firewall of during setup it's easier to troubleshoot, switch it on again if everything works. If it stops working after the firewall is on again, well you know where to look for the problem :-)):
    1) After setting up the Open Directory Master I switched on SSL and created a own certificate for my server. I didn't protected the certificate with a password as it gives a lot of extra problems with setting things it up. You can than select the certificate under Server Admin/Open Directory click on setting and click the tab LDAP. There you can select it.
    2) Make sure your webserver is running and you have a working website where you can go to. Under Server Admin make sure that under the selection Sites that your FQDN is filled out. Being something like www.example.com and not example.com. The second one could cause iCal web part to not work accordingly at least that is my experience. After that choose security and make sure SSL is on and your certificate is selected. The rest of the website settings is pretty basic I didn't changed to much. I do know that I switched on some extra modules. Being bonjour_module, authzsvnmodule, davsvnmodule. This prevented further in the installation the 210 error when I went to the Calendar under my webbrowser. I wouldn't know which of the 3 is doing the trick I only know that after this it worked for me.
    3) Pffffff OK go to the iCal Server settings under the Server Admin. The settings are straight forward but again make sure SSL is on and your certificate is selected. And look at your host name which should be someting like server.example.com. If you are not able to get DNS setup properly you could try your machines example.local name. But that again could give troubles when you want to use local iCal client outside the door on a laptop for example.
These where all the server admin setting. Now go to the Workgroup Manager and selected the group/groups you want to have Calendaring switched on and choose the way people are able to logon. This you can do by going to the group select the default website and services you want to give. Then select under Allow the way people can logon to this website or iCal services.
When that's done you should have everything up and running on the server site. So now go to a local iCal client and go to preferences/accounts/server setting. Click the + on the left bottom site and fill out a name and password leave the server option for now to auto. This way and when everything is setup properly you should get something like https://server.example.com:8443/principals/_uids_/14A0DD22-86CA-4F55-96D9-9CB461640D52/. The end number should refer to your name and password account so the number want be the same as in this example. Well if it works you are one of the lucky people and you are able to setup a shared Calendar from there. It would help a lot if you have more than one machine to test. Because it didn't worked on my MacBook Pro getting a famous error "iCal unexpected secure name resolution" But it did worked on my wifes iMac. So the server settings are OK. Now the good part when it's not working is that you can go to your webbrowser and type or copy the following: https://www.example.com:8443/principals/users/shortname (naturally use your own server name and user name). There you can see details of the principals settings. Including youre uids number. This number is unique for your name and password. Copy this number. Then go back to iCal switch of the auto find in iCal client under preferences/accounts/server settings. The first part of the link is https://server.example.com:8443/principals/uids/(Now paste you number here). Hit enter and see what happens. It the name server is not working for you than use for example iso server the name mail if you have it setup in the DNS is should work. It did worked for me and it gave me a nice shared calendar which you can name for yourself. Every group member should be able to see this agenda once hooked up to it via iCal client and prefences/accounts/server settings.
If you go to your website or www.example.com/groups you should see youre shared group. Sorry I only tried it with one group sofar. If you make changes to the calendar from the webbrowser it will show up after a refresh in your iCal client and visa versa. The only thing I still have problems with is the events for more days. They show up on the web as events but when I click them they produce a unwanted error. But when it's based on a single day than it work perfectly.
Hopefully you have a working iCal server to now. If you find something interesting or you think I left some important things out. Please reply and fill out the blanks.
I just hope that it will save some time for the new once setting this up.

Thank you for sharing your experiences. I am looking at setting up an iCal server myself for our business. However, our situation is a bit different. Could you also share what kind of workgroup you set it up for? And maybe help me answer a few questions below. Thanks in advance!
First a little background. We are a small management company. We have individual clients that we manage. We need to have access to their calendars to schedule events, etc. The thing is that we would be the only ones looking at everyone else's calendars at once so that we can coordinate our own schedules so that we can be where it is most important but still not lose track of other activities.
    1. What kind of machine are you running the iCal Server on? Xserve? MacPro?
    2. Is it possible to view multiple users' calendars within a single calendar view?
    3. Does setting up this kind of calendar server sound like the setup for our situation where only we, the management, will be able to view all calendars?
    4. How difficult will this set up be on our clients and their machines since we have little control over their personal machines? (The majority of our clients are all Mac users. There may be one PC user.)
