ICal upgrade?  (Wasn't sure where to post this)

I'm looking for a calendar or planner program for my Mac (10.4.11). I want it to be able to organize files, keeps lists, and work as a calendar (It would be great if I could associate files with days on the calendar and with a task list). Does anyone know of a program or upgrade to iCal that works like this?

BusyCal seems to be a reasonable option. I may be going to that because I do not like anything I'm hearing about the changes to syncing across MobileMe calendars.

  • Quick Warrantee Question. (wasn't sure where to post this)

    I just got a Pavilion 500-123w for christmas. What I would like to know is if I can put in a dedicated GPU without voiding the warrantee. It only has IGP Intel HD 2500. Honestly only slightly worse than my dedicated but still worse nonetheless. So will it void my warrantee? I don't have any stickers on my case stating anything about opening the case. I'm used to seeing warrantee void stickers on there. Thanks in advance!

  • External hard drive, sharing, itunes? Not sure where to post this?

    sorry guys but i'm not sure where this belongs, but anyway. I just bought my macbook and purchased a Western Digital harddrive ( external ) anyway I have like 80gigs of pics and music and want to get it from my iPod back onto the computer. Not a problem............My problem is that I can't put it directly onto the external drive I first need to put it on the macbook then transfer it to the externak hardrive. When I do this is winds up on my mac HD and also on my external hardrive. I only want it in one place. Ok, my ultimate goal right now is to buy an iMac which I'm doing this weekend. Got rid of my PC's ( Go Apple !) LOL. I want to put all my music ,videos,pics, movies on the external hardrive and be able to share it with both my Macbook and my imac. I simply want to be able to access my everything from both pc's but get it all from the EHD. Right now it's all on my macbook and I want to free up the space, plus learn how to do it for the future. Sorry to ramble. So far I've posted a few times and someone always comes through. Everyone here is awesome, it's like another planet compared to the PC world.

    Put your iTunes folder on the eternal hard drive, and make a alias to it from your home directory on the MacBook (Cmd-L). Do the same when you get the iMac.
    I didn't quite get how the two computers are sharing the hard drive, or maybe you'll put the hard drive on the iMac and share the library. There's a lot of ways to make this work. You made a good decision.

    It is illegal to make copies, under the copyright
    regulations regarding the use of keynotes
    presentations, and there is no DVD for sale with them
    (you would need a few DVDs, they go way back to the
    early 80s).
    The WWxx name is based on the name/location of the
    conference, WWDC, WWSF etc.
    Thanks for the info. A little disappointing though. I would love a compilation of the conferences and all the old commercials etc.
    Maybe they'll put together a box set in the near future.

    Sorry if this is COMPLETELY the wrong place to post this, but I'm not sure where the best place for help would be. I ordered Office 2004 Student and Teacher on Nov. 23, 2007, and it was supposed to have a $100 rebate. How do I get the rebate? We're looking for a form or something but we can't find one. We also ordered an iMac at the time, and it came with a $101 rebate that showed up on the receipt. Was there a mistake somewhere?

    If the iMac came with a rebate then you'd have to call Apple about that. As for the Office rebate, if it came from the retailer you purchased the thing from then you'd have to discuss it with them, or if it was a Microsoft rebate then you'd have to contact them about it.

    Go to Settings/Mail, Contacts, Calendars.  Tap the name of the email account. If you don't see a bar labeled "Advance" near the bottom,  Tap Account.  Tap Advanced.   Under Incoming Settings, there should be an option to Use SSL.  If it is ON, tap it to turn it off.

  • Wrong forum I know but I don't know where to post this

    I have two accounts here.
    I created one when I had a PC and an ipod
    When I received my macbook I created another account.
    Both accounts use the same email address
    If I log in with my one username I am shown questions to do with ipods (that's when I had the PC and downloaded itunes for the ipod)
    . If I log in with my email address I am shown questions I've posted about my macbook since receiving it at christmas.
    Both accounts use the same email address and password and yet neither account shows both acct questions.
    Is there any way to merge both accounts together.
    I know this is the wrong forum for this question, but can't find any link to email apple directly and get this fixed up.

    If you do the following, you'll get the popup warning "You
    have made changes to code that is not marked as editable.. blah
    blah blah" even though you did not make changes to uneditable
    regions.
    1. Make a remote site with a local web directory. On my
    machine, I run Apache (
    http://localhost), treat it as a
    remote site, and copy files to Apache's local directory.
    2. Create a template with 1 editable region: EditRegion3
    3. Create a page using the template.
    4. Enter in a <form> </form>tag and some text.
    5. Select Put for the file.
    Works fine at this point.
    To invoke the bug:
    1. Remove the </form> tag.
    2. Select put.
    3. The InstanceBeginEditable name="EditRegion3" tag turns
    color: from gray to black.
    4. Close and reopen the file.
    5. Make a minor edit.
    6. Select Put.
    7. Presto - warning dialogue shows.
    I attached both versions. By the way, I was able to "fix" the
    broken edit region by closing (not saving changes) and reopening
    the file, adding back the missing </form> and saving. Then
    Put works with no error message.

    So lemme understand this. If you hack a page so that it
    contains invalid
    code, you get a template error? Is that a surprise?
    Anyhow, there are several workarounds, and I see that you
    have found one.

    I have a document that I would like to copy cut and paste into an email.
    Everytime I paste it is automatically double spaced and a pain to edit to single spacing.
    I have checked the default settings and they are all single.

  • Airplay Question (wasn't sure where to place it)

    I know that it's only possible through the aid of third party software (such as Rogue Amoeba's Airfoil), but is there a reason that iOS devices and Macs (or even a PC running iTunes) are unable to receive Airplay data?  For instance, if I have an iPod touch on a dock, it would be really nice to be able to pass airplay to it from my laptop. I'm looking specifically at audio, although being able to push your iOS display to a Mac would be really cool too.

  • I am Lost on where to Post this but I am tired of throwing money away by staying with Verizon

    I have a MOTO old phone and I want to upgrade.  I have never had a smartphone.  The MIFI 2200 has never worked where I live, even know it is a 3G device and all the tech support agents have been unable to help me.  However, Verizon kept taking my money for nearly a year.  I was even paying more than what I should have been paying until about 3 months ago an agent said; "do you know the MIFI unlimited price is $10 less than what you are paying?"  So that went down $10.  It still has not worked for a year and all I am told it is because of this small pocket in Salt Lake City that is Unified and near railroad tracks, which make the signal unable to reach my MIFI2200.
    My contract has been up for about 1 year and I would like to either get far away from Verizon or give them another chance and get an iPhone and the 4G version of the MiFI made by the same company.  I understand Samsong has a model too but I was told the company that makes the MIFI2200 3G is the way to go with the 4G.
    I know this all will be like living in the stoneage and moving to the current age, but I think I can handle it.  I am open for suggestions.  I se that I can go in to an Apple Store and have them get me hooked up with an iPhone on Verizon but I would lose my New Every Two.
    I really feel lost.  I was told the 4G mobile hot spot will work where I live in the same location where the 3GMIFI has not worked for a year.
    Is getting ripped of by Verizon just par for the course or am I just a sucker that has no luck?

    How did my Post turn into people thinking that one gets a new phone?  I never said that.  The program is discontinued but those who still have it will get it.  I have 2 lines, one for the MOTO cell phone which gives me $30 off of whatever comes up on their website and $50 off of whatever comes up that the MIFI2200 used.
    does anybody know what mobile hotspot has the best reputation?  the MiFI2200 3G has a 4G but I have heard that the Samsong is the best.  I have no idea what to do but I am hoping the 4G will be able to get a signal since I need a back-up for the online courses I teach.

  • Palm Desktop ATE MY CALENDAR AGAIN!!!! I CAN'T Connect to ANY Of my DATA! And I DON'T KNOW WHERE TO POST THIS

    While opening palm desktop I got the dreaded "Error failed to open Date Book database" and my ENTIRE datebook was EATEN AGAIN...
    Shame on me for depending on this flakey software to keep track of my entire G*dd*mn life but there it is...
    I WAS still running 4.2.  I've tried uninstalling 4.2 and installing 6.2 under the (obviously) mistaken assumption that there's a way to fix the corrupt datebook database in 6.2. 
    Now I can't even access any of my other data like ALL OF MY ADDRESSES AND TELEPHONE NUMBERS, ALSO (SILLY ME!!!) entrusted to this flakey POS software....
    because now I cannot find any way in the menus or imports or WHATEVER in 6.2 to connect the program to my old profile...
    Does anyone know of any 3rd party software that can retrieve my data from the old databases?  (That would be my first preference -- GET MY INFORMATION and then deep six this sucker!)...
    Is there a CLUE anywhere in any documentation about how I can reconnect my GOOD data with 6.2???

    This happens probably because of 2 existing palm desktop data. Older version of PDS will store the user data under c:\Program Files\Palm or Palm One on the other hand PDS 6.2 will store the User Data under My Documents\PalmOS Desktop.
    Given that you have all the updated data on your phone, Uninstall Palm Desktop , and make sure you remove all other folders for previous PDS. (rename palm folders under program files and palm os desktop under mydocuments). Once everything has been removed, install fresh installation of PDS, sync your device and just make sure you set the sync method to Handheld overwrites Desktop.

  • Ok... I don't know where to post this but... *UPDATED*

    Tonight, suddenly out of nowhere, both Windows Media Player, and RealPlayer both stopped playing sound. For everything. from new things I download to videos in both formats I've had on my computer for a long time, and up to today worked just fine. The reason I'm posting here is because it's happening to both programs, and I'd think their audio codecs are seemingly unrelated. So it may have something to do with the OS. QuickTime, iTunes, system sounds, mplayer, all fine. And I never installed anything or changed anything at all before they stopped playing sound. I tried restarting my computer, repairing permissions, deleting the .plists, uninstalling the programs and deleting the plists, then repairing permissions, restarting, redownloading both programs and reinstalling them... to no avail. This just seems completely random. Only WMP gives an error. "This file may not play correctly because it was compressed by using a codec that is not supported." I never had any plugins or extra codecs or anything for either of those players. Has anyone experienced anything like this?
    UPDATE It gets worse... turns out that sound won't play on flash websites in Safari either now. And I can no longer preview a song I am downloading using Acquisition. It's almost like OSX is not letting these programs use sound....

  • Not sure where to ask this- printing multiple files with file names

    Hi,
    Apologies if there was a better place to ask this question- I'm not sure which program I should be using to achieve what I'd like to do and I'm not sure if it's even possible. I'm currently working for a publishing house preparing images that will eventually be printed inside books. Files come to me in a wide variety of formats. I save them as either tiff or eps. These files (the tiffs and the eps) will eventually be sent along to someone that is doing layout work for the book and then to the printers. Before that happens however I need to provide the editor with hardcopies of the images that will be published so that they can review them. Having the editors look at digital versions of the files is not currently an option. Our current workflow (not designed by me) entails entering all the images for any given book into an InDesign template. Then in Indesign I have to enter some information about the images (their numerical designation, their file format). Then we print the .indd file for editorial review. I find this process incredibly time consuming and tedious and I'm looking for a way to avoid it all together.
    What I would like to be able to do is select a folder of images (tiffs and eps only) and print them at 100% (no resizing, one image per page) with the file name at the bottom of the page. Due to the number of images I'm responsible for, this could save me several hours of tedious work a week and would allow me to devote more time to producing a quality product. I thought I had found a solution using the 'contact sheet II' tool in adobe bridge. However, this rasterizes the eps files and makes them look unprofessional. An hour and a half of googling this issue has taken me to numerous dead ends. I wonder if there might be some way to do this quickly in indesign (at which I am a complete novice) or possibly via an automated illustrator function.

    I appreciate the reply. I'm not sure that I will be able to convince the powers that be to drop the EPS format. I'm fairly certain that the printer, which the press has a long-standing relationship with, expects TIFF and EPS files exclusively.  In addition, I'm not sure if I'm misreading what you're saying, or if you misunderstood something I said. Typically, the EPS format looks great and prints fine through illustrator or via InDesign (in other words, it doesn't usually look unprofessional). I use TIFF for photos or illustrations and EPS for charts or graphs (basically, in any instance I have to set type). The problem is that the only way I've found to speed up the production of hardcopies for editorial review ('contact sheet II' ) runs through bridge and photoshop, ruining the appearance of the EPS files.
    I wonder if there's a way to run a similar batch process (may not be the correct wording) through illustrator such that both the TIFF and EPS files look clear, print at 100%, print one image per page, and the file name is included on the printout. Basically, a one image per page contact sheet. To do this now, I have to place every single file individually into InDesign and manually enter information about the files.
