Ichat doesn't login

Hi Everybody
I'm a new mac user, and i've been trying to connect to icha for the past 4 hours.
The problem is that i enter my mobileme or my mac information, which are correctly validated, but instead of show the done button the program shows the "learn more..." "go back" "continue" buttons.
I've tried with all of them, but nothing happens, the ichat does not start, i also have almost all the ptions grayed, so i don't know what else i can do.
I have reinstalled the ichat with my instalation CD, but still no working.
Anybody knows what i can i do??

You can try two posible solutions for this problem:
here is one:

And this is the one that worked for me...

  • Ichat doesn't log all the time/poor camera connectivity

My ichat doesn't always log on. Sometimes it will after using the computer for thirty minutes or so and sometimes not at all(same is true with AIM). However, my firefox and safari both work all the time so it's not an internet connection problem. I'm using an ethernet cable for service. I was wondering if there's a setting or something I need to change...
Also when it does finally connect my isight camera (external) does not always connect to talk with other people. It has worked before rarely but when it's connected the image is extremely choppy and blurry; however, the sound is usually pretty clear and fluid. How can I fix this?
    Thanks.

    Hi
    For your logging on problem
Try logging on to AIM on port 443 rather than port 5190.
Go to IChat in the menu bar > Preferences > Accounts.
Log out of AIM and then use the Server Settings tab
    Set the port to 443.
    Log back in again.
    For your blurry problem
Set the Quicktime streaming setting, goto sys prefs/quicktime/streaming/streaming speed, set to 1.5mbps(dont use automatic)
In ichats prefs click on video and change bandwidth limit to NONE.
    Restart iChat.
    Tony

  • Hamachi doesn't login anymore

By some days I have this problem: hamachi doesn't login.
These are the commands I give:
    sudo modprobe tun
    sudo /etc/rc.d/tuntap start
    sudo tuncfg
    hamachi start
    Starting Hamachi hamachi-lnx-0.9.9.9-20 .. ok
    hamachi login
    Logging in ...... failed
Removing the .hamachi folder in my home doesn't fix my issue (of course in this case I give the command hamachi-init too).
I also tried two gui (hamachi-gui and quamachi).

    Hi Garret,
hamachi uses udp for all communication, so you need to make sure that the firewall is configured to allow UDP packets both in and out for the machine that you want to put on the Hamachi network.
Hamachi has always worked on my pc and then I don't use a firewall.

  • IChat doesn't work since 10.4.7 installed

Installed 10.4.7 and now iChat doesn't work at all. It worked fine prior to the upgrade, all the required ports were open and now I just get the -8 error as per everybody else.
Suggests to me that Apple have changed something fundamental somewhere.

  • IChat doesn't open at all after update

So I've been reading all the posts about the problems with the video part of iChat not working after the update... but my iChat doesn't open at all. It says iChat in the top bar (Next to the apple) But nothing happens. The buddy list doesn't pop up and all the options under the pull down menus are gray and unclickable. (haha, not sure if thats a word, but we'll work with it ;] ). Anyways, if anyone has any idea how I can go about fixing that, that would be awesome.
    Thanks!

If the iChat menu does not give you access to Log a Screen Name in to the AIM servers and the Window Menu does not list any Account/Screen Name then work through this FAQ

  • Skype works, iChat doesn't (error -8) -- Why oh why?

My brother and I had been using both the audio and video features of iChat AV3 with audio for long-distance (US to Japan) communications flawlessly until about a week ago. Neither of us had changed any of our configurations; it was working fine last Thursday evening, and then wasn't working at all following morning.
We keep getting the mysterious error -8.
We've been troubleshooting this for most of the past week. We turned our firewalls off. We reconfigured the port settings. We reconfigured our routers. Nothing works. We can connect to each other using the iChat text-messenging feature, but not the audio or video.
However, both of us CAN connect to the Apple iChat AV test site (appleu3test01) without any difficulty. We never get the error -8 when trying to connect to that. The video loop displays perfectly.
This morning, after pretty much giving up on iChat, we decided to try Skype. However, we figured it wouldn't work either, since iChat doesn't work.
To our amazement, Skype worked perfectly.
What gives? Why can't we use iChat audio but Skype just works?
Oh, and to add insult to injury, we both paid $99 for a dot-Mac subscription so we could use dot-Mac accounts with iChat.
Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated.
    Thanks,
    GeeKay

My daughter has a -8 problem with her Mac Book, no audio or video. She is using a Airport Express with no router and her ISP is using Motorola's Canopy wireless ISP technology.
So when I called Applecare they had me do multiple things, nothing worked. Then the tech said to verify the MacBook doesn't have a problem hook directly into the ethernet from the ISP. Haven't done that yet but will this weekend.
    Any suggestions out there

  • IChat doesn't see my isight camera

My isight camera shows up as a connected firewire device on the system profiler, but ichat doesn't see a camera connected. Neither does the isight updater, when i try to run it. this is an old camera i used to used with an imac; been sitting in a drawer for years.

    Welcome to Discussions, Wide Bob
Previous Discussions posts on the topic show that it is not unusual for people who store external iSights for long periods, particularly inside the plastic shipping case or in places like briefcases or desk drawers that move, to find that their iSight has stopped working and requires professional repair. (There are no user-serviceable parts inside iSight.) Based on these reports, I never put my iSight back in its case for transport or long storage without a fresh desiccant pack and some way to cushion the camera.
At this point, test your external iSight using the suggestions from this link:
      http://www.ralphjohns.co.uk/EZJim/EZJimpage4.html
If you still want to use a webcam but nothing there helps you get your iSight working (with any Apple apps in any user account you test), I can offer two alternatives:
    (1) A new Mac compatible webcam: http://www.mac-compatible-web-cam.com/
(more details in User Tip: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2018211 )
          - or -
    (2) Check whether your external iSight can be repaired.
If you want to pursue service but do not have access to a local Apple Authorized Service Provider, see Apple's iSight Service: Frequently Asked Questions:

  • IChat doesn't re-connects

    Hello!
I am using iChat 6.0 with GoogleTalk account. It works nice except it disconnects sometimes, but doesn't re-connects. Is it possible to make it re-connects every time it loses connection?

    Hi,
It is not as easy as it sounds.
iChat will Reconnect if there is an External Camera that has an On/off switch.
It will reconnect to the services that don't involve SSL Logins
(Unfortunately Google will not work without a SSL Login).

  • IChat doesn't work properly after upgrading to 10.7.2

It just doesn't connect to my gmail chat account.
No error message or anything. It just sits there with that " ~ " symbol near where it says "offline".
    What to do?
Trying to connect / disconnect doesn't do anything.

    Hi,
    With iChat Quit.
GO to the Applications/Utilities folder and launch Activity Monitor.
In Here find IMAgent in the list.
Use the Quit Button top left (And confirm Force Quit.)
    Launch iChat.

  • Terminal doesn't login

    Hello,
I will write in a non-very correct english (I am italian) and I want to offer you my bigger thanks for the attention.
I would want to use a certain phisyc-simulator that i found on the web (wich format is .exe), and so i've tried to get Wine, a free program that make you able to open .exe on OSX (in my case 10.5.8). Following the instruction for Wine's installation, I had to run a certain ./file but the wine installation wrote to me (in the terminal window) that this operation (the installation) can't be completed with the root user, but have to follow the same instruction with a secondary user.
So, i've tried by first to do the same installation's step in the Guest user (the one in wich you can't save changes by logging out) but the terminal stayed empty for several minutes. I thought that the problem could be the use of the Guest user, so i've come back to the administrator one and i've created a secondary user (with no administrator "power") , but the terminal doesn't work neither here.
Now, the terminal is still not working even with the ADMINISTRATOR user.
    Can someone help me?
    p.s.: i've some experiences with the terminal, by the need of compile and execute in fortran; it's not new;
i've already searched online a way to solve this problem (for example i tried to see the Console's messages, and i tried to remove the file                             com.app.Terminal.preferences (or something like that) while logged white the secondary user (but not the Guest one))

Thank you BobHarris you are very nice.
-I've tried to delete the come.apple.Terminal.plist in the admin. account   -----> doesn't work  [does it exists in each accounts or is it just one for all?]
              -iTerm2 doesn't work
-Installing Onyx and browsing to find the hidden files you told me ( .profile , .bash_login   etc...etc..) THE FINDER GAVE UP WORK!!!
Even by cmd+rightclick on finder icon to click on re-open (traslated by italian "riapri") i had the error message 101800 or something like that.
I solved the problem by switching off the Mac with the button... Once turned-on again the Mac ( it was a moment full of pain ), all worked fine.
After had verified that the computer didn't had big problems after the trouble with the finder, i continued to search the hidden files.
They don't exist in my Mac but LUCKILY i had the impression that execute the login file in   /usr/bin     could be the solution: it worked!!!!!!!
I had this idea because of that the problem was just the login at the terminal....  A terminal window opened quickly and asked me with wich account I wanted to login... LUCKILY i wrote the good account_name and password and all gone fine!!! (the terminal works again)
    So,
thanks to seventy one for the link http://www.davidbaumgold.com/tutorials/wine-mac/ (i think install Wine will not be a problem now)
    thanks to BobHarris too

  • Skype doesn't login on my i phone 4

Hi i needed skype for i phone4 when i was trying to download the i phone app rejected  and shows to update ios from 4.0 to update the latest one i updated to ios6.0 but still skype doesn't work. i removed the app as shown on Apple website reinstall again but still skype doesn't working.

it's unclear as to what you mean by it don't work your title seem to indicate that it can't login but your post seem to indicate that it can't launch
if the former then I would reset the password

  • Why does my iChat require a login keychain?

there's this thing that comes up whenever i try to login "messages can't log in to (my username) because your login ID or password is incorrect". It then prompts me to fill out a password. I have tried entering my apple ID, my actual computer password, as well as my old iChat password. There is also a box asking if i want to "remember this password in my keychain". None of the passwords that i try work though.

On your computer, OS X is set up to ask for the password when your iMac goes to sleep or the screensaver appears. To solve this, open System Preferences > Security & General > General, and untick "Require password after sleep or screen saver begins"

  • IChat doesn't open--period. Bus error?

I just received my new iMac (Intel Core Duo, woohoo!) on Saturday, and the very first time I tried to open iChat was about an hour ago. All I got was a couple bounces, and then.. failure. Rebooting doesn't make any difference. I tried opening it in Terminal using this method:
    /Applications/iChat.app/Contents/MacOS/iChat -errorLogLevel 7
The error log in Terminal said "Bus error" and nothing else. Can someone explain what this means, and how I can fix it?
Brand new iMac!   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Turns out iChat isn't the only one I'm having trouble with. Other programs that won't open: Mail, Address Book, any Big Bang games.. all with the same bus error thing. I did open Big Bang Checkers once (before trying iChat), but as soon as my friend connected to my game, the game crashed--haven't been able to open it since.

  • IChat doesn't recognize password, Wrong name in account window

    Hello,
I got a new iMac in Sept., and haven't been able to log in to my ichat account. When opening iChat and trying to change my account status to Available (or anything) a window pops up wanting me to put in my password, I do, and it says
"iChat can’t log in because your login ID or password is incorrect."
I know it's the right password, and have tried deleting and creating new accounts a few times, but this window always comes up and never lets me in.
The other strange thing is that my name is not correct in the buddy window, for my account. I have no idea how that name got in there, I don't think I would have put it in anywhere, I wonder if it's pulling from some address book or something? No clue.
Even when I create a new account and password, the same window above comes up.
I looked at some existing discussions and regarding the Server Settings tab in the Preferences window, my server is "api.oscar.aol.com", is this right? I read it should have google in the name??
Thank you for your help in advance, this is crazy!

    HI,
So Lion (OS 10.7.x) mean iChat 6 (possibly version 6.0.1)
IF we are talking about the Buddy List and clicking on the Name or Screen Name that appears there it is a drop down.
The "Name" will be pulled from the Address Book  (Check the Address Book My card (The one with the head a shoulders icon) This should be your details.  If Not find your Details and then use the Card Menu > Make this My Card)
The "Handle" is the Screen name of Jabber ID for that Buddy list.
If you are using an Apple ID (Ending @mac.com or @me.com) then it is possible to create password that is longer than the AIM servers can deal with
Apple somewhat encourage longer passwords for higher security bit the AIM servers can only deal with a max of 16 characters.
Use the iForgot site to change the password if required.

  • IChat doesn't display OD users for non admin account

I have a Mac Mini SL server with iChat service running. When I add an Admin account (Account with admin privilege to work group manager) it can see other accounts and groups. However, when I add a non admin account it doesn't see any user nor group!
Checking the iChat logs, I can see the non admin account logging in and being authorized:

This means that this user is not allowed to use the iChat services. In sever admin - access, you get to set who or what type of users / group, etc is allowed access to which services. Did you check that?
Unfortunately I don't see that! I'm using Server Admin 10.6.3 and when I click on the iChat service it displays three tabs only; Overview, Logs, Settings where settings has two sub tabs (General and Logging).
There isn't any option where I can define whom can or cannot access iChat service in Server Admin.
Under the Setting's General tab I have:
    Host domains set to: qserv.xxx.net
I also have my SSL Certificate selected
    Authentication: Any method
Enable XMPP server-to-server federation is not checked
