IChat with GTalk, no video icon to video chat.

Hello,
I'm new with my mac and I was wondering how to video chat using ichat with my gtalk account.
My buddy is using a PC, and there is no video icon next to his name.
How do I solve this problem?

Gtalk in iChat is Mac to Mac only for audio/video, to A/V with a PC you will have to use the Gmail web page.

so i have a iMac(intel) and a MacBook both running Mac OS X 10.4.8 (8L2127) and iChat 3.1.7 my family is overseas(Brazil) and I can have a video conference with no problem if i boot in windows and use windows messenger but if i am on OSX we can stabilish the conection and we can see eachother but i am the only one able to hear them, at first i though it was a slow dsl connection from them but if i use windows messenger on bootcamp the audio/video conference is flawless.. what gives? i am not behind a router i use Cable with 20mb/s down and 2mb/s up connected directly on my iMac and on my family's computer the dsl is connected direct to the computer.. anyone knows how can i get it to work right? and yes i can video chat within macs with no problem

Hi Rodrigo,
iChat to AIM and MSN connections involves different amounts of data in the pic quality.
On a PC computer using AIM 5.9 too much data can be sent in the video stream and block out the video.
On the PC the user should bring their Preview pic tab to the front.
Then they should have a small icon to the right of the preview pic.
Clicking this brings up a slider
Sliding the slider to the left actually reduces the quality of the pic.
If you open the Connection Doctor from the Video menu during this chat you should see his framerate go up and the audio should kick in.

Lync 2013 crashes when video preview or video is loading

Hey all,
For my work I have Office 365 (tried 32bit and 64bit) and this is installed on my windows 8.1 laptop of Dell. There are no problem using the software. But when I'm running lync and on purpose or by accidant go over the video icon in a conversation,
my lync freezes and after a while it wants to restart. The other microsoft voip software (Skype) does not have this issue and works perfectly. Also it is possible to open my video settings, the webcam will show everything like it should. Only hovering the
video icon in a chat is enough to make lync crash. For my work I'm really relying on lync., so I hope ther is a solution for this problem.
The webcam is a Quanta H.264 Integrate Webcam and it was working on a combination of earlier versions of windows and lync.
With some my colleagues (same laptop) running earlier version of windows there are no issues.
Is there some way to fix this problem?

Mostly this problem is related with video driver.
Please try to update your video driver.

Check the iChat Menu > Preferences > Video Section > Bandwidth setting.
iChat needs to see a Minimum of 128kbps to do 1-1 chats in Video
For 3 and 4 way chats it needs 384kbps
Set the Bandwidth to 500kbps if it is set lower.
Also check the speed you are getting from your Internet supplier.

You need to satisfy several things along the way
Account type
You need to have a Jabber or Google mail Account your self.
If you have a Google Mail Account then it needs the "Talk" option Enabled in your Google account Settings ( A Facebook with "Chat" enabled is also a valid Jabber ID to use in iChat).
Connection Method
This is about which apps can connect to which apps for Video ro Audio to work.
iChat Video when using a Jabber account is iChat to iChat Only.
iChat connects using a process called SIP (Session Initiation Protocol)
Jabber based Apps if they have an A/V module connect using protocol called Jingle.
Needless to say Google do their own version of this that is written in to the web Browser Plugin that allows Video Chats (there are PC and Mac versions), and in the PC app called GoogleTalk.
However it is also not that compatible with other Jabber apps.

This claims, now, that Google had a hand in writing the Protocol.
Also in the "Clients Supporting Jingle" list many more version of Google products are mentioned with extended info. (it suggests that someone at Google has been editing the page).
Can iChat make voice chat with Gtalk on windows or not?
The specific answer to this to be clear is NO.
We are talking about different Apps (or web Browser Plugins) using different Internet Protocols that are not compatible.
The simplest thing is to get the Web Browser Plugin (However there can be issues with the Flash Plugin)
At one time Google used Flash to do Video Chats and it would seem their Plugin is very close to this part of Flash.
See the Known Issues and the "Google Talk Plugin Disables iSight On Mac" item.
Options
Use a Web Browser yourself with the Plugin.
Use a Flash Base Site such as MeBeam (Flash has to be enabled in your Browser and the instructions are simple on the page)
Try to find a Jingle capable Mac Jabber Client (app) ( I have not found one).

I somehow can't do the video chat on ichat, I can see my self but i can't click on the video icon

I just got my macbook pro and tried to yahoo messenger video chat,.. and it does not work . So i called the support line and they set me up with the ichat. but now the video icon will not even work, or i cant click on it. i can see myself but if i try to video chat i can not see the other person. what should i do

Welcome to the  Support Communities
So you downloaded Yahoo for Mac (Beta 3) and installed it.
Presumably you set up the app to Broadcast your Video feed (and who could view it) ?
You probably set up some Buddies and invited them to See your Video and have a Audio Chat ?
(That's the Way Yahoo works)
Can you be clear about which bit does not work please ?
Check
System Preferences > Security > Firewall
If ON, then go to the Advanced Button
In here "Allow Signed apps" should be Enabled (The phrase is actually longer and refers to Software rather than Apps)
Also Yahoo must be in the List.
Are you choosing to View their Video ?
Can you hear them in the Audio Chat ?
Is your router allowing Video for Yahoo (And Audio) ?
If it is set to do UPnP then it should not need any other settings regarding Opening ports.
iChat Video will only work iChat to iChat (The other end must have a Yahoo Account set up in iChat and it is effectively Mac to Mac for Video).
Is this a Mac Buddy ?
Are they Using iChat ?

IChat AV mulit user Video Icon not coming up can't do multi video

Help.
I am trying to use the Multi video conference feature on iChat AV on different G5 dual processor machines but the multi video icon does not appear. My final goal is to host with the machine I am listed here and allow the other users to use theie G4 Power books.
I have tried using Jabber, .Mac, and AIM accounts but none have given me the icon and/or allowed me to set up a multi video conference chat. I am also using all iSight cameras so the environment is pure Apple as it should be.
Any help or show me to a discussion board?

you still need to run the "cron scripts" manually, once or twice a month is plenty, but there is an enhancement since 10.4.2 that allows to sleep at night, and meant to have the tasks automatically run. Not yet fully reliable though.

Video ichat with XL1

From everything that I have read, I believe it should be possible to video ichat with my XL1. See old post: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=276831&tstart=30.
I am connected via firewire, but under preferences>video, iChat AV 2.1 does not detect a camera attached.
Any solutions?

Ok, so I did more research and found that ichat AV 2.1 requires a G4 or G5 for work with a DV camera. I operate on a G3. This is just another reason for me to buy a new computer.

For AIM set-up for PC http://www.mvldesign.com/videoconferencetutorial.html#xp they must be using AIM5.9 and not AIM Triton.
You might have better success using Skype to a PC.

But after conversion, in the browser, why are there some video clips shown with a connected clip icon ? And it doesn't play ?

The edited project was 60 seconds making up an intricate title sequence involving 24 video segments and 48 png/ PSD files. Had a brain storm and was wondering if there is anyway the the project could move to another event so currently going through all the event folders on my FCPX edit drive. I just can't see how a project can just vanish.

Can't initiate video in ichat with all options enabled

In my ichat, I can't initiate video chat with anyone. Under view all video and audio statuses are enable and under video, video and audio chat options are enabled. Help?

Odd.
That sounds like the iChat > View Menu > Show Video and Show Audio Status are unticked (I know you said different in the Original Post).
The next obvious place is the Video Menu which can turn the Camera and Mic On and Off.
I am not sure if iChat 6 in Lion is the one where the wording changed from "Microphone Enabled" to "Audio Enabled" and similarly for the Video/Camera option.
Again you confirmed you had looked at this in the Original Post.
That leaves the actual Internet Speed your computer can see.
If you have not done recently Restart the computer.
As IMAgent starts when the computer does it is involved in assessing the speed available.
Next, before starting iChat 6, do a Speed test
This one needs Flash http://www.speedtest.net/
This one uses HTML 5 (No Flash) http://speedof.me/
You need to see speeds in excess of 128kbps for both Upload as well as download.
Also check iChat menu > Preferences > Video Section > Bandwidth Limit Drop Down. This should not be set to lower than 200kpbs

Thanks so much for your reply but that won't help in my current situation. Maybe I didn't make it clear. The latest version of Quicktime as new as it sounds doesn't support screen recording on a powermac G5 Motorola chip with OS 10.5.8 which is the highest os I can go with that machine. If I can sync the two computers so I can get the application to record from my newer computer then I'm ok. I just don't have the recording application for audio that I'm using to demo for the website on the laptop as it's about 10,000 dollars. So, I have to use the older computer to do the audio presentation and try to get the newer computer synced to it so I can use the new version that works on snow leopard to record a screen shot that will hopefully appear on my laptop instead of the old machine. Hope that makes sense. It's a bit confusing but in a nutshell it's like this:
1. I am a Pro Tools Instructor which is the state of the art application and recording device for audio and movie scoring and I have a new job where I make small snippets of tips using Pro Tools which I'd like to record with quicktime on screen as they happen
2. the best version of Quicktime Pro available for the Power Mac, OS 10.5.8 will not do screen recording on it.
3. I can use the Quicktime application from my newer laptop but I need to sync it to the old machine
4. I'm hoping but I don't know, if I do this, that I can record Pro Tools in action from my new machine buy seeing it on this laptop screen and then recording it with the new quicktime.
5. If I can sync the two computers, I'm hoping this can happen but I can't use my ethernet connection as I have it used to connect to my recording console and can't afford to buy anything new like an ethernet hub yo connect the two so I'm hoping that there's another way to connect them.

It could be some sort of "flagging" issue where either the AIM Servers have gone out of sync and you are getting two lots of info (There are about three or four servers involved with getting data to your Buddy list)
I can also see the possibility where you have a Contact in your Address Book who has two Screen Names.
You have one in one group and in another they appear to be Off Line. However iChat will still Link them and Show their Capabilities when you Right Click.
One way of checking this is to double click them to open a Text Chat Window.
At the top is the Recipients Bar (See View Menu when Text Chat is Open).
This gives you the option to chose a different Buddy Name if the contact has two (It offers To and From options if you both have Multiple Accounts).

They have an @Mac.com name and Jabber ID (As it is an Old Chat the Jabber one is Off Line and their @mac.com name is currently "Away"
You can see I have a Google and three AIM Logins I could use to Speak to them.
