ICloud keychain access password

Hi guys,
Safari is saving passwords both on my iphone and my mac – this iCloud Keychain does work. Cool.
Then design of the website is changing and whatnot and Safari stops entering password for me.
I go to the Keychain Access and trying to see the password.
Keychain Access is asking me for the password for "Local Items" ... hm... ok.
Local admin password does not work, my iCloud password does not work.. what password shall I use to see items stored in my iCloud keychain?
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Hey there keloin,
It sounds like you are wanting to see what Safari passwords your iCloud Keychain. You should be able to do this in the Safari preferences:
How do I view the passwords stored in my iCloud keychain?
Macs using OS X Mavericks v10.9 or later:
Choose Safari > Preferences, then click Passwords.
Select the website whose password you want to view.
Select the “Show passwords for selected websites” checkbox.
Enter your system password.

  • Hung on iCloud Keychain access on set up after install

Okay so the install seems to have been successful until iCloud Keychain access -
    It's now hung - spinny wheel -
Can't click back or skip now ...
Haven't backed up properly ...not enough space to time machine
Is the install done enough for me to pull the plug and be safe ???
When I click the mouse wheel the correct widgets are there , thats making me think the OS and data is safe and ready to go ... It's just the iCloud Keychain that's screwing it - I don't use iCloud normally which is probably the problem - will setting it up on my iPad now help???
Help ..... Please someone help ... There's so much precious stuff I could loose ... I think I am about to cry if I loose it all ... It's been trying for 10 minutes ...
PLEASE SOMEONE HELP .... FAST ..

I've solved the problem - so I thought I'd share as others may have it -
Essentially what seems to have caused the problem and how I solved it non destructively if others are having the same issue (off my own back and intuition)
At the point I'm talking about within the install its a setup assistant application for the new (more gimmicky not performance or core OS installation) features iCloud Keychain etc .. The core OS IS installed ..
Hot corners proved this as they were working , I could see my apps , and a software updater trying to prompt me to update CS5 as the OS is updated -
I had to use alt-cmd-escape - which on attempting to force quit the app failed it said I had to restart it also told me all application memory was being used - (considering the only things running were finder , set up assistant and the CS5 updater , I find it hard to believe it was using 12gb of RAM ) - this paused the application when I refused the restart It suggested on attempting to force quit it  ..  Which allowed me to use hot corners to get to the updater and update CS5, which I believe to be causing the hang  - it also allowed and also switch to Finder which showed my data was intact- blagged a HD (although it proved not to be necessary) and time machined    - restarted the machine probably quite bravely ... On restart cmd-r - had to re-enter the password for my wifi ... Reinstalled Mavericks OTA - went through set up assistant - set up the features - however due to the issue - I've lost my entire Keychain ... Which in the big scheme of things is NOT the end of the world -
2 hours of **** and fear I solved it... Hope this helps everyone else with the issue and I'm not the only person in the world with the issue - if you ignore the iCloud Keychain initially even if it hangs because of the software updater - I don't think you'll loose your key chain ..
Proves self logic (not the program) can work ... Although i only ended up finding this solution after violently repeated hammeing the force quit command - they say violence doesn't work with computers but if I hadn't repeatedly violently taken my frustrations out on alt-cmd -escape  I wouldn't have found the solution -  so maybe sometimes it does !!! Just do it to the keyboard (on a iMac ) not the screen as their a lot cheaper to replace !!!
    I hope this helps

  • I keep getting a pop up of keychain access password  needed.  So I fill it in and in a few minutes it pops up again. can it be changed? what is it for?

I keep getting a pop up of Keychain access password needed. So i type it in but it keeps popping up every few minutes.  Help!! Can I stop it, change it or what? I'm new to the Mac world. Thanks Bonnie

Finally got this cleared up (will post if it reappears).
    Following advice on this link...

I checked for waiting downloads in the iTunes App (purple icon) on device. Sure enough, there was a stuck download. Deleting that item (swipe to delete) seems to have gotten downloads working again and (hopefully) banished the message.

  • Need to set new keychain access password

    Hello,
I bought a used desktop awhile back and I am trying to get safari to remember passwords
and it always asks me for my keychain access password. Trouble is I don't know what the
fellow set it as and when I set up my system administrator password it wound up being
different from the keychain access password and I don't know how to change it. I'm not
being offered the 'Change Settings For Keychain System' in the edit menu (don't know why)
so I'm at a loss for what to do.
    Thanks

If you have the Mac OS X install/restore discs that came with the computer originally, I would use them to do a complete Erase and Install from scratch; that way you can get rid of any remnants of the former owners' account settings and passwords and have it all be your own.

  • HT1631 I am not able to recover my keychain access.  I followed the directions to "Reset My Default Keychain" and then entered a new password.  It will not accept a new password.  How do I Reset or recover the KeyChain Access Password?

I am not able to recover my keychain access.  I followed the directions to "Reset My Default Keychain" and then entered a new password.  It will not accept a new password.  How do I Reset or recover the KeyChain Access Password?

    This is what you tried?
Resetting your keychain in Mac OS X...
If Keychain First Aid finds an issue that it cannot repair, or if you do not know your keychain password, you may need to reset your keychain.

  • HT203783 Having trouble setting up the iCloud keychain access on new devices because I can't access the phone number that is associated with my account (for 2 factor verification)

I also don't know the answers to my security questions. I spoke with iCloud support on the phone for about an hour, but we got locked out of my account and they eventually encouraged me to check if I could log into old devices (I now know I can't-they've either been sold or are not using iCloud keychain).
Anybody think they can help? I don't want to have to set up a new iCloud account.

Welcome to the Apple community Yao.
If you mean that Find My Phone is asking for a password to a different Apple ID to your current Apple ID.
This feature has been introduced to make stolen phones useless to those that have stolen them.
However it can also arise when the user has changed their Apple ID details with Apple and not made the same changes to their iCloud account/Find My Phone on their device before upgrading to iOS 7, or if you restore from a previous back up made before you changed your details.
The only solution is to change your Apple ID back to its previous state with Apple at My Apple ID using your current password, you don’t need access to this address if it’s previously been used with your Apple ID, once you have saved these details enter the password as requested on your device and then turn off "find my phone" and delete the account from your device.
You should then change your Apple ID back to its current state, save it once again and then log back in using your current Apple ID. Finally, turn "find my phone" back on once again.

  • ICloud Keychain Master Password?

Is there a way to force iCloud Keychain to ask for a master password once a day (or whatever)?
That's one thing I really like about Lastpass.  I like being able to set an interval to re-login to access my passwords.  I love the convenience, but I am a little nervous about someone figuring out my 4-digit screen lock and getting access to all of my accounts.

    Thanks a lot.
I tried disabling iCloud Keychain in the iCloud Account Settings and deleted the Keychain from my Mac. After a restart, I re-enabled iCloud Keychain. After that, it worked. I have now access to all my passwords and secure notes, using my login-password, as xtremecarbon said.

  • I upgraded to Mavericks.........then a few days later i get a prompt to put in my keychain access password.....i do......it won't take it.....i go through this whole mess.....I try to reset my keychain...nothing has worked that i have tried.

After some unfortunate research and trial and error.....it is not fixed.......i cannot access for icloud, iphotos, email......well, you get the picture......I'm not a mac guru..,I just want some advice on how to get my computer running, pre-maverick......thanks

no matter what i try......it always comes back to the local items keychain.....that's the one....i can't open, or repair it.   has anyone else experienced this since upgrading?

  • HT204085 Is there a list of passwords at iCloud Keychain? If so, where can I access it?

I've just set keychain while changing my twitter password. is it possible to recover the password suggested by keychain?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You can only have a look at all the passwords stored in iCloud Keychain through a Mac with OS X Mavericks, using Keychain Access (in /Applications/Utilities).
To try to recover the password suggested by iCloud Keychain, access to Twitter, press the password box and you should see a button to insert the saved password in the virtual keyboard. Note that this won't work with the Twitter application

  • Should the passwords in 'System keychain' (in Keychain Access) normally be accessible to the owner/administrator?

Should the passwords in 'System keychain' (in Keychain Access) normally be accessible to the owner/administrator or not?
If not, would it be possible to gain access via the Root Account?
I can access the passwords in 'Login keychain' (in Keychain Access). But when I try to access the passwords in 'System keychain' I'm asked for the Keychain Access password! I've never set such a password. I've only ever used one password - my owner/administrator password. But this isn't accepted when I try to access the passwords in 'System keychain'.
Please note, this question was previously posted in the OSX Tiger forum but no-one offered an answer
    Thanks,
    iHope

Seems this is a characteristic of the system keychain.

  • Asking for password for keychain access, but won't accept my password... What's up with this?

Restarted my MacBook just now and it's got a continuous stream of pop ups asking for password for keychain access, won't accept my password, won't go away (cancel), any suggestions.

    Hello Al323,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with Keychain Access on your Mac.  I found a couple of articles I suggest for the issue you described.
Your keychain uses your the same password as your login password.  If it is not accepting that password, I recommend running the Keychain First Aid using the steps in this article:
Mac OS X 10.6: Solving problems with keychains
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH7296
If you are still repeatedly seeing a prompt to enter your Keychain Access password, you may need to reset your keychain.  This will create a new keychain so any saved passwords on the old keychain will not be available, and you will need to enter them when accessing sites for the first time again.  Follow the steps in the article below to create a new keychain:

  • Can't Get Mail Password From Keychain Access.

My neighbour wanted to be reminded of his Mail password.
So we opened Keychain Access and clicked on his internet password and then clicked the i at the bottom of the window.
A new window opened with "Attributes" at the top and we clicked on the "Show Password" box at the bottom.
A window then opened for his Keychain Password. It was different from mine. Mine simply has a Sancel and an OK button at the bottom.
His had 3 buttons - "Deny", "Allow Once" and "Allow Always". (I am not sure whether I have got those last two exactly right).
When he first got his G5 iMac he did not use a password in the initial setup of the computer and never has had one. So we left it blank (except for the flashing cursor) and pressed the Allow Always button.
It said the wrong password had been entered. We tried again several times using each of the Allow buttons but were refused each time.
As the computer has never had a login password what should we do?
I assume that his keychain access password window looks different from mine because he has an earlier version of Tiger than I do.
    Ian.

    Thanks Matt.
I can't try it now but I suspect it will work.
The big puzzle is why it said the wrong password had been entered when he has no password and we left the box empty.
Four years ago when I too had no password, simply leaving a password request box empty and clicking OK worked.
    Ian.

  • MacKeeper won't work because i deleted KeyChain Access.  Is there any way to Re-install this?

I downloaded MacKepper a few weeks ago.  My computer asks me for my keychain access password every time I try to log in which I deleted off my computer.  Is there anyway to reinstall this?  I tried customer support and they said they said my only option was to re-install KeyChain Access. I read I need to use the Mac OS X Install DVD but my disk drive is broken as well.  Is there any other way to install Keychain access without the install DvD?

Restting the iPad may reset the Newsstand app as well. One other thing that you can try is to quit Newsstand, restart the iPad and see if that helps.
To quit Newsstand - Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit the app by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on the Newsstand app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus (-) sign in the upper left corner to close the app. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
BTW .... When you download an app again via the Purchased Tab from the App Store, you are downloading from the cloud. That is one of the features of iCloud. Your app purchases are stored "in the cloud" and downloaded from there. There is no need to sync with your computer.

  • How to enable iCloud Keychain for 3rd party apps?

I came across iCloud Keychain, which if enabled, lets you backup keychain passwords and restore on other iOS devices. Also read that 3rd party apps can integerate iCloud Keychain to their apps in order to ensure that the app's keychain items are backed up to iCloud Keychain. Would like to know more on what 3rd party apps can do with iCloud keychain.
    Even Appls's FAQ says so:
Does iCloud Keychain work with third-party apps?  Yes. Developers can update their apps to work with iCloud Keychain. Passwords saved by those apps are then kept up to date on all devices that use the app and running iOS 7.0.3 or later or OS X Mavericks v10.9 or later.
I couldn't really find implementation details. Please help.

If the the data is stored in the backup, it should restore to the iPad when you restore the backup. If that's not happening, sometimes it's becuase the data is stored on the app's server.
SInce you are not having any luck restoring the backup, I would do a Google search such as this one using thses parameters - without the quotes.
    "restore candy crush backup progress"
Personally, I do not trust any game that has in app purchases like these games have. It is my paranoid belief that the game developers do not want you to be able to restore your progress.

  • TS1544 Recently changed log-in password having forgotten previous - cannot unlock local items keychain - no password.

Have tried to reset default keychain - 'specified keychain could not be found' so not possible. Any help please?  System OSX 10.9.4 using Mavericks.

Most now works although Mail is still jammed. Getting lots of requests for keychain access password either for my name or local or login : mostly - mail/safari/com.appleinternetacct/calendar.agent/address.book and principally Mail requests.
How does one prevent the incessant demands for keychain access? It never happened previously except rarely ...
The keychain issue appears to have affected the Mail service and the computer has slowed with plenty of spinning disc time. Have run virus scan (Sophos) and verified disc no issues.
    Thanks
