Icon sizing

icons seem to be showing partially
in 10g forms, running gif icons from a jar file
there is a small button 20x17
it shows the lower right leg of a red X gif icon
the icon is 16 x 16
how does forms size the icons? How do I know what size to make them?
Thank you.

does the server or OC4J need to be bounced when changing the icon jar file?

  • Desktop icon sizing ?

I have 2 icons on my desktop: one for the mac HD and one for the windows xp HD.
My windows has "untitled" and I can't change it to read "windows xp". How do I do it.
Also I keep 4 icons from my widgets together when I click on mouse button, but size is small. How do I increase size of these 4 without increasing all the widget's size? (calculator, date time, calendar, and weather)
    Thanks.

boot into windows and rename your C drive there.

    you can not resize widgets.

  • I installed LabVIEW 5.1 on an XP machine and some of the VI's, such as fit to curve, do not have icons. Instead, they have a ? where the icon should be, and they cannot be inserted into my VI's. Can anyone fix this?

I am using a Dell Inspiron I8100 Laptop with Windows XP Home and am running LabVIEW 5.1 in Windows 95 compatability [I also did so for the install to get rid of the "wrong os" message]. I am able to use nearly all of the functions, but a few of them did not make the transition to my machine. I cannot use some of the VI's contained in the Mathematics sub-palette, I cannot use some of the demos, and it is really setting me back. Instead of an icon for the Mathematics>>Curve Fit sub-palette I get a ? in an icon-sized box that says Curve Fit for it
s description. Can anyone fix these broken links?

From your discussion I have seen that you try to use LV 5.1.
It seems that 5.1.1 will work correct. The difference is that 5.1.1 is compatible with Win 2000 and 5.1 is not. This can by a issue.
Another thing I have seen under Win2000 is the rights a user has. Since you use XP Home there should be no restrictions to the user of the machine. One thing to take into account is do you install and use LV as the same user?

  • Weird Icon thingy

I have put icons on to all of my folders from pictures I have. No problem there, but when I want to put it on my ACTUAL pictures folder, if I choose a small picture, or a large picture, or an icon sized picture, no matter what, the only icon that shows up is a generic ".JPG" indicator. I can't get the picture to show up.
I have tried making another pictures folder to put the icon on and then move all the stuff into it, but it still did the standard .jpg icon. How do I fix this?

I suspect you are not applying the icon correctly. open the image you want to use in Preview and enter command+c. then select Pictures folder, enter command+i, select the little icon in the top left corner of the resulting info popup and paste the icon there.

  • ORACLE Icon on Forms

Just wondering is there a way of removing ORACLE icon on the top right corner of the FORMS application? If this can be done, I am using *"Oracle Forms 6i"*
    a). It releases extra space for the FORMS application;
b). It makes the application looks better.
I suspect this might have things to do with set_window_property call, but how?
    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.
    Muhammad Waqas Hassan Attari

how about setting the icon_name property of the forms_mdi_window using set_window_property?
set_window_property(forms_mdi_window, icon_name, 'iconname_without_extension');search after that built in in Forms Builder Help, and you'll be directed to the right way how to do it.....
There also seems to be some things to be aware:
"The icon filename should not end in any of the following five letters: A, L, M, S, and X. (Neither upper-case nor lower-case are allowed.) These are reserved letters used internally for icon sizing. Unexpected icon placement results may occur if your icon filename ends in any of these letters.
Use the platform-specific environment variable to indicate the directory where icon resources are located. For example, the Microsoft Windows name for this variable is UI60_ICON. (For more information on this variable name, refer to the Form Builder documentation for your operating system.)"

  • Tiny OS9 icons in OSX Tiger

    Hi All,
I have been transferring files form my old OS9 machine to my newer OSX machine and have noticed a problem with the sizing of jpeg icons. All the jpeg icons (icons of jpeg files) imported from OS9 show up very small in the finder of OSX, although all the jpeg icons that were downloaded to OSX from the net are normal size. When i click to highlight the small icons, they show a normal icon sized grey box around them...so it's not a problem with the icon view options as all the OSX files display properly. How do i get the OSX machine to properly display the icons from OS9 files?
    Thanks, Steve

If you haven't downloaded VitaminSee yet, it is here:
    http://www.elliotglaysher.org/vitaminsee
It is such a nice program you may want to use it rather than the Finder to browse your images. You set the icon generating function by checking the box in its Preferences->General. You can also add Keywords in it. Its shortcomings are that it seems to need an extension in order recognize a file, and often there aren't any for OS 9 graphic files, and it won't remove a custom icon and add a new one.
One program that will remove the old icon, and doesn't depend on the extension, is Pic2Icon. You can drag a folder with images to the little "well" in the program, and it will work its magic on all the images in the folder:
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/13226
Unfortunately it is no longer being updated, and the developer's web site seems to have disappeared. But the 1.3 version available above works fine for me in Tiger. This is the easiest way I know to replace those OS 9 icons.

  • My HD icon on my desktop moves following restart

ok, so i have the HD icon at the top of the desktop on the right side with an alias of My Documents underneath it. every time i restart or shutdown the computer and it starts back up, the HD is still on top but both icons have moved down 1 icon sized space. any help/suggestions would be much appreciated
    jeff

Yes, I know that is annoying but this is how you get your icons to stay nice and neat on your desktop at all times and so that they are in order:
    1. Click on the hardrive.
2.You now have your hardrive open, now do you see the little flower looking logo in the middle and to the left? It is like a flower or some type of nut or bolt looking logo with an arrow going down.
    3. Click on the logo and then select "Show View Options."
    4. A box will come up on the left side of your screen and check the box that says "Keep Arranged By" and then you can have your folders arranged by Name, date modified, date created, size, kind, or label.
    5. Have the box open and then click out onto your desktop and then check the box again and then that will always arrange your icons on your desktop even after restarting your computer.
I know I have made this sound like a lot but it isn't at all. I just don't know what you call the logo that you are supposed to click on. If it helps, it is 4 over to the right from the front and back arrows.
Let me know if you got it or have any questions because I want to know if my instructions helped you solve your problem and in case someone else has the same problem.
    Hope I have helped...
    Sam

  • Larger File Icon

I've been trying to get a large file icon for file types, but when i try using code such as
ShellFolder.getShellFolder(file).getIcon(true)all i get is an icon of 32 x 32 pixels. Is there any way to get an icon of a larger size?

I believe the "larger icon" you are talking about is when you set--use large icons on--and all of your icons are scaled to a larger size by windows. I've not experienced nor seen any docs on making indiviual icons larger than the default value, nor can I get any reference to individual icon sizing in windows.
Here is a link telling you how to make all of your icons as big as you like, I believe the setting is user specific:

  • Is it possible to view entire filename on desktop?

On my desktop I have my icons sized to 16x16 with the 12pt text positioned to the right and finally arranged by 'kind'. This results in a single column of around 20 files. But many of the files are similarly named so I need to hover my cursor and wait a second for the full name to appear, for instance 'schedulemay2007.pdf' and 'scheduleapril2007.pdf' both show up as 'schedule...2007.pdf'
Is there a way to have OS X show the entire name, or at least lengthen what is shown?

    maybe an applescript.

  • Is there a good "Sticky note app that ACTUALLY put a Sticky Note on my iPad ( over my existing wallpaper images) on either the Home or Lock screens like how the Stickies app works on a Mac?

    I have an iPad 3.
I tried two, One was a worthless piece of junk I wasted $2.99 on and the other is pretty good ($1.99) except is does not do a function I would like to use as advertised ( which is to create a sticking note that works like an app by creating an icon sized version of the original created sticky note, then  clicking on an app icon size version of the originally created sticky note that you can tap on like an app and a large sticky note is supposed to appear. This does NOT work with an iPad.
Does anyone use a Stickies app for IOS that works exactly like how the Stickies app works on a Mac?
What good is a Stickies note app on iOS when it cannot put actual virtual stickies notes over the main IOS screens and wallpapers and remain there until they are no longer needed?
Does any one use a good stickies app on iPad? NOT iPhone or iPod Touch.

It really cannot be done in iOS due to the sandboxed security model of the operating system. No app can modify the "desktop" like that - they can only display their own "virtual" desktop when actually actively in use.  so any stickie note app is the same as any simple note app - it must be open and active to display content. It cannot modify any screen but it's own when active.

  • Combining common aspects of all Adobe Apps and their core functions

I use Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Fireworks, Dreamweaver and Lightroom daily. So do most of you.
I've noticed that aside from the bizarre UI differences between say InDesign and Photoshop, there are other changes that make little sense - and I'd like to know why, and hear how you think we could change this.
Companies today are under the assumption that if they throw more fluffy features at us, we'll not notice the underlying core functionalities are suffering from lack of attention.
For instance - sure, geotaging in lightroom is useful - if you have a GPS attachment for your camera (or if it's built in) so having that as an option is nice, but having it load all the time and run "in the background" while I'm using lightroom doesn't work for "me". Facial recognition, it's coming eventually, but really, when would the pro photographer "daily" use this feature to search 20k + images? We already tag our things, and it's far faster to search a text string than it is to scan pixels.
So awesome fun feature, I'm sure the kids will love it, so include it sure, but don't have it eat up my resources. Let me turn it off.
    So here's the point.
Adobe has created, and is still creating, a macrocosm of software that is supposed to interlink, allowing us to be productive from photo/drawing to publishing, and connect and share and so on, but the core features of our software do not do all of these things well - they only do them adequately.
We have Photoshop.com / Creative Cloud / Revel and other storage areas for our stuff - and none really link and all over lap, and all need another's feature, or improvement.
Why not merge them and have one awesome experience. But too, the "kids" already have tumblr, and instagram and facebook and drop box and on and on.
Why why have so many Adobe forums (on different sites) - why not merge them?
None of Adobe's offerings are "revolutionary" - just more clutter and more of the same, and more logins and profiles and links.
Like why have so many Adobe forums (on different sites) - why not merge them?
Can you name one Adobe product that is "new" and a "must have" over the last 5 years that you cannot already use as freeware?
Adobe for Linux would be so very awesome - but oh wait, they already have it for Macs - that's unix - isn't that the "same"? So where is it then? Collusion with apple?
Why did it take so long to have 64bit apps, why are some apps still not 64bit? Why are some both?! - and that I'd have to install them both?! o_0
Open and Save dialogues in the UI's don't match between programs - XP styles vs Win7 styles. Some programs are "new" others "old" - huh?
Dictionary's don't match. Why not have one and load that between programs?
UI scaling doesn't match - different icon sizing, and font sizing (no we aren't talking retina support - just basic enlargement).
Tool layouts/options don't match. Fireworks / Illustrator. You bought Macromedia almost a Decade ago, may want to upate that?
Why are "quick" icons removed from the UI (like arrange all) and stuffed into a menu structure, but available in other programs?
Processor and Ram and GPU user settings/options don't match. - and yes I know it's application specific, but really? Illustrator couldn't use allocation options?
Limitations on artboard sizes that corel for instance doesn't have (Illustrator bogs down - with a lot of effects - at 100" and can't go larger than 220"? really?)
isn't illustrator basically math based? Corel doesn't have this issue?
Limitations on printing/layout and other options that Corel doesn't have (man they have an awesome print layout preview screenthat indesign and illustrator could use).
Scalable anchor points based on zoom level. Those things are frightfully small.
Options to actually disable (not simply hide) add-on features/modules/tools not being used. *cough* lightroom.
Network access capabilities for some programs (lightroom cannot read it's database over a network)
The Adobe Application Manager - a simple "verify and download" tool is embarrassingly lacking in options pertaining just to its function.
Why is Lightroom such a bother to install through AAM/Creative Cloud Subscription?
Why do the installers take hours and hours to complete? Since Vista, I can install a full computer and its updates by the time I'm done getting Creative Suite Master installed and updated.
I'd like to hear about more common sense "core functions" that should be addressed - so Adobe can have a simple list - in one place that "highlights" where they are really dropping the ball.
Searching Adobe forums is fun - and you can search all of the above and find long threads on all of them - years old and un-addressed. Maybe because they are spread out?
Adobe seems to be resting on its laurels of decades of being the defacto design suite, and it's been apparent for years that the core software is late to release, buggy, bloated, and although more appealing to the eye, and now with fancy schmancy cloud features, our core operations are just overwhelmed due to all the fluff.
We have too much "left hand doesn't give a sh*t about what the right hand is doing" and that needs to change.
So I'd like to see your lists of "when I use this feature in this program, I'd have expected it to be in this other program and it's not".
or "Why doesn't this work like it used to?"
or "this free program here has this awesome thing, why don't we have it here?"
I'm not talking about a list of glitches, I'm not talking about cloud dosiewhatsits and the fluffy crap.
We'll all assume you have the appropriate computer gear to run it adequately.
I'm taking about core features we spend thousands on.
I'm taking about you having a think about the core reason you bought "this" Adobe Program.
Does your Adobe software do what was advertised correctly, "quickly" and well.
Can you move "seamlessly" between Adobe apps?
Then list those things that confuse you because it "should be there" (because in the last 3 releases it was and now it's gone) or "should work this way" and doesn't.
Maybe then Adobe could see that our list is a sign they need to get back to basics before they overwhelm what little functionality they have left.
I didn't buy Abode products to have cloud storage - I bought it to make money and be productive in a clean workflow.
I don't seem to have that anymore.

If you bought them as separate apps, the will be independent apps. There is a natural connection between the apps. Acrobat has a preference for the touchup tools for raster and vector graphics.
I guess if you never set the Image and Object Editor, these could be blank, but personally, it is nice to be able to edit images and objects on the rare times you do not have access to the original files used to create a pdf file. Any modern Illy file can usually be opened by Acrobat. I don't have Photoshop Elements, but they may be able to rasterize pdfs. I would not worry about the connections between the apps. Most of the time, they work completely independently of the other parts and only react with each other when ou want them to.

  • Images in galleries, when clicked, now replace favicon - bug or "feature?

When clicking on thumbnails, thus opening full-size images on websites with galleries, the favicon to the left of the URL gets replaced by an icon-sized version of the selected image. This does not happen with IE or Safari. The "feature" is not really helpful, as small images are most of the time not recognizable, due to their small icon size. It doesn't happen if the source image is of a large size.

You can set the pref browser.chrome.image_icons.max_size to 0 (zero) on the <b>about:config</b> page.

  • Can't wake G5, odd black square on left side

I've been having intermittent problems when trying to wake my G5. I have a KVM switch and everything has been work with no problems up until the last Security Update. Now, on occasions, when I switch to the G5, the desktop is still showing, when it should be the screen saver. Moving the mouse pops the arrow up to the left side of the display with a icon sized black box around it. The arrow can be moved down, but it jumps by the size of the icon. Requires a hard re-boot. I've repaired permissions several times. The problem is intermittent. I've check some of the logs, but nothing jumps out. Any ideas which log I should look in?

First, it would be a good idea to determine whether the problem is Software related, or Hardware. If software, then you could possibly remedy by restoration from a backup, or complete reinstall of the OS, if you don't backup.
Do a screenshot (Shift-Command-3), and view this screenshot on another computer. If it is visible, then it is definitely software related. However, I don't think it is. I think the coincidence wit the connection of a USB key is just that, coincidental. But we must eliminate the possibility before proceding.
If the screenshot does not show the "bar" or "strip", then you should really consider the problem to be hardware related. As the MBA is not really user serviceable, the next step would be taking it to an Apple Authorized Service Center or Apple Store Genius Bar for diagnosis and repair.

  • Thumbnails when saving... Just like in Photoshop.

When it exports it should really make thumbnails like it does in p-shop.
    That's all.
    I'll be here all week.

Lee Jay, you are also not a PSCS user. I don't know if this happens on a PC or not but on a Mac when saving in PSCS, the Image icon instead of being a generic PS icon with TIFF or JPEG or the like appended to the Icon, an Icon sized thumbnail image is generated for the image and used individually for each image.
LR does not do this. The OP and others would like it to. This is as apposed to the preview on can see in a finder window or, I presume in Expolorer.
A Mac does this for you on the Desktop, but not in a Folder view Finder Window.
It does, however with an option change do it the single FOlder View. I had not known this 'til now.
    OP:
Go to a Finder window. Click on the left hand view option. Colntrol Click in the Window for Show View Options and select 'Show Icon Preview'.
    Does that work for you?

  • Lion UI Finder Functions?

I typically manage image files in quantity and can't replicate useful functionality from Snow Leopard. Perhaps newer improved procdedures have eluded me?
1 - Icon sizing/scaling slider. As I recall in Snow Leopard there was a slider in finder windows that enabled instant enlarging of icons/image thumbnails (in icon view) Now I have to open "view options" to perfor this frequent function. Viewing enlarged thumbnails in the finder provided a very efficient way of locating/selecting images visually. It would also be helpful to view all icons/thumbnails as they are scaled (reduce white space between icons). I.e.: the convenient scale slider would enlarge icons/thumbnails, but all visible items would remain in view. (currently, as icons are enlarged, they move out of view) Or perhaps a "view all" toggle could be incorporated into the slider.
2 - When multiple files were selected in Snow Leopard, the number (count) of selected files was displayed. So if I wished to compare the count of files in 2 separate finder windows, command-A would give me an instant count. I can no longer find this function. Selecting a folder and then getting info on that folder is cumbersome.
3 - I have always hoped for a boolen function for folders: It would be VERY helpful to have a comparison (boolean) function showing which filenames were shared by 2 folders -or conversly, which filenames were NOT shared. (I.e.: I might have Folder A with 100 files, and Folder B with 90 copies of those files that have been processed. I would like quickly determine which files from Folder A are NOT shared by Folder B)
Perhaps I have simply missed the updated implementation of 1&2. And hopefully there is a procedure for 3 that I have not discovered.
    Thanks

Probably not what you want,  but there's "diff" in Terminal:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/132219/2008/02/termfoldercomp.html
Probably there exists some third party GUI-based functionality along these lines.
