Icons in system tray

on a non wired desktop pc, windows xp. sp2, I want to clean out the system tray of unneeded icon(programs)running there.
I have:
Linksys Router BEFW1154
adapter WUSB11Ver2.6
cable modem BEFCMU10  v.3
In the non wired computers system tray there are 2 icons together, shaped like a computer monitor, and then another one shaped like a monitor, off by itself. These are Linksys icons.
Question?? Is it necessary to have these in the system tray? I have never actually used them so far as I know. Are they needed in the system tray in order for the wireless connection to operate properly?
I phoned Linksys tech support but they won't answer this question because my warranty has expired. Everything works fine even though I bought the router and adapeter about 5 years ago.  Thanks for your advice.

For the modem and router, you don't need any icons. Not sure about the adapter's icon. You may be using that for the connection.
The box said windows xp or better... So I installed Linux!

  • No icon in system tray for SB surround 5.1

Hi, I've just bought one Sound Blaster Surround 5. from ebay. It comes the device alone without installation CD. So I downloaded and installed the driver pack .0.0076 and Console Launcher. It works fine on my XP system, besides that there is no volume control icon in system tray. I used to have a Sound Blaster Digital Music LX, which did have an icon there. I'm just wondering whether it is just like that or should I do anything that might help.
    Thanks.

.Re: No icon in system tray for SB surround 5.
    xcynn,
What is the serial number of your card? You might find the original installation CD [url="http://hosted.filefront.com/creativeiso/">here[/url]. There are a couple of SB 5. OEM ISOs there. Otherwise, for many other SB cards, there is a "help" question mark on the panel of apps such as the mixer. Next to that question mark there is a downward pointing triangle. If you have anything like that in your Console, click on it and see if there is an option to display the volume icon on the taskbar. However, a left click of the Creative volume icon brings up the Creative mixer. If you don't have that mixer, I'm not sure what, if any, volume controls would come up even if you had the SB volume icon. In that case, the Windows volume icon gives you all the volume/mixer options you need.

  • Skydrive (OneDrive) Icon in System Tray Caused by KB2849636

KB2849636 installs an update that puts a Skydrive icon in the system tray, and there is no way (that I know of) to remove it. I've since removed KB2849636 but assume It'll stick around for a while, has anybody come up with a solution that allows you to disable
    this icon?

    Hi,
If this issue still persists, as a workaround, we may just remove this icon from system tray:
Change how icons appear in the notification area

  • QuickTime icon in system tray

Just have to complain about how even though every time I upgrade to the latest version of QuickTime I uncheck the 'Install QuickTime icon in system tray' option, when the next upgrade comes around, it's right back there. I wouldn't complain if the upgrades were less frequent, but since they are frequent, would it be that hard to check that preference in the previously installed version and follow it in the new?

It is a good try, banfam4, but it is not a perfect solution.
I want updates of QuickTime. I want updates of iTunes that imply updates of QuickTime. I want the latest and least buggy and safest version of the software.
What I do not want is to have to repeat going into the preferences advanced ("advanced"!!!!) settings every single time Apple has fixed a bug to disable the icon.
I do not want any QuickTime player on my desktop. No quicklaunch icon. And once I have removed them, I want them to stay away.
Where are Apple's famous usability tests? Have they asked users: "do you want to remove the quicktime icon from the system tray through an obscure setting in a control panel you never use otherwise, every time we fix a bug?"
Did they find any single user who said "yes"?

  • WR110 and Windows 7 + Im connected to Internet but Icon in system tray shows red X

    Hi all,
I just upgraded both my notebook and Desktop, both of which are wireless.  The Notebook connected just fine, and the system tray shows connection bars.  However my destktop is also connected, but it shows the red x.   Not sure what I need to do to stay connected and have Wireless strength bars reappear.  When I click the connection it says " The settings saved on this computer do not match the requirements for the network".  Also when I click on the red X in the system tray, the connections pop up, and I see the green bars and it says connected, but a few seconds later it goes to the red X, but Im still connected to the internet.  I have ATT DSL and they recently bridged the router to the DSL modem using PPPoe, but that was before I upgraded both PCs to 7 and I did not have this issue prior to upgrading.

    Quack,
I gave that a try, and changed my SSID.  On my notebook, it of course lost the Internet connection, I saw the new wireless network, and typed in the PW and it connected without issue.  However the DT which is where I am having the issue, is still doing the same thing.  I am connected to Internet as that is where Im typing this email from, but the 5 bars in the lower are still show that X even tho Im connected.  It does say the Security types do not
match, so I would go in and change to WPA Personal, TKIP, and type in the password, but still nothing.  I have noticed that when I enable and disable my Wireless adapter in the Desktop, 2 icons come back, one for the adapter, and one called. Microsoft Virtual WiFI miniport adapter, which I have disabled, but it does not make any diff if its enabled or not.

  • Search protect icon in system tray (still there after deleting)

Hello i got infected with search protect (conduit). In my firefox, IE and Chrome browser my startpage got changed to mystartsearch or something like that.
I changed the startpages and deleted installed programs by the normal windows add and remove programmes tool in the configuration screen. I ran kaspersky.
Everything was cleaned it seemed besides 2 things. When i clicked new tab in firefox the mystartsearch page started in that tab. I solved this bij intalling a firefox tab add on. Than i changed the page that had to open when opening a new tab.
Another problem is a blue e icon in my system tray that i can't get away. It is started when my computer starts up. I can't click it, nothing happens. When i move with my mouse over it, "search protect, click to configure" is shown.
I disabeld programs in my startup configuration. I searched fot this program, but i can 't find anything than seems to be related to search protect. I searched for removal assistance on the internet but i can only find A to Z procedures, which are useless. The program already seems to be deleted from my computer but the icon keeps starting up on my computer.
Can somebody help? Do i have to reinstall search protect to delete it properly? And where can i find a "harmless" version of this program? It is a bit sick to reinstall an infected programm to redelete it. I prefer other solutions, but that icon on startup is irritating me and i wonder if it is still harming my computer.

You already uninstalled Search Protect from the Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a Program? Could you check again for anything strange. After the list loads, I suggest clicking the "Installed on" column heading to group items by install date. This can help surface innocently named bundle items that snuck in with some software you agreed to install. Take out as much trash as possible here.
You can search for remaining issues with the '''scanning/cleaning tools''' listed in our support article: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]]. These on-demand scanners are free and take considerable time to run. If they finish quickly and especially if they require payment, you may have a serious infection. I suggest the specialized forums listed in the article in that case.
Regarding the new tab page, you shouldn't need an add-on to regain control.
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the search box above the list, type or paste '''newtab''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Double-click the '''browser.newtab.url''' preference and enter your preferred page:
    * ''Page thumbnails (default)'' => about:newtab
    * ''Blank tab'' => about:blank
    * ''Built-in Firefox home page'' => about:home
    * ''Any other page'' => full URL to the page
Press Ctrl+t to open a new tab and verify that it worked. Fixed?
    Some gotchas:
''If Firefox won't let you edit this setting:'' you may still have SearchProtect on your system.
''If Firefox lets you save your change but ignores it:'' one of your other extensions may be overriding it. You can review, disable, and/or remove extensions on the add-ons page:
"3-bar" Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > ''in the left column click'' Extensions
''If the change works during your session, but at the next startup is back to MyStart:'' you might have a user.js file in your personal Firefox settings folder (your Firefox profile folder). This article describes how to track down and remove the file: [[How to fix preferences that won't save]].
    Any luck?

  • "Docked"-Icon in System Tray does not disappear

    Hi,
I have the problem that sometimes after undocking my X220 Tablet from 2 different UltraBases, the Undocked System Tray Icon does not disappear.
The laptop was in service (motherboard replaced) already twice (along with related problems as I think), I reset to factory settings but the problems still persist.
    Does anyone ever experience this?
    Thanks,
    divB

  • Remove the icon in system tray

    Good afternoon,
After playing around with bootcamp and Windows 7 I decided to delete the partition.  I still have the bootcamp icon in my system tray next to my airport and time machine icons.  How do I make it go away?   I'm sure it's not hurting anything, it just bothers me to be up there.  Yes, I may be a little OCD.    I tried to move and delete by holding down the command key and selecting it with the mouse but no luck.  Any idea?
    Thanks!

It shows up on my system too for the RAID. I've learned to live with it but I don't really like it there.

  • How to move Icons to system Tray on my TouchSmart 610-1130y

I would like  to be able to move Icons to my system tray.

Click on Control Panel and then click Notification Area Icons.  It will give you the list of available programs and behaviors to configure.  If the program that you wish to be displayed is not displayed you can check the settings of that program to see if the option is available.  If it is not you can drag any file or program to the taskbar and it will create the shortcut there for easy access.

  • Software Center icon in system tray never goes away

    Hi
We are in the process of migrating sccm 2007 to 2012 and noticed the Software Center icon sits in the system tray and never goes away. The system does not have new software available for awhile and the system was also rebooted. We are seeing this on many
machines. What is the expected behavior? I have attached an image.
    This never goes away.

open the software center and look for any applications made available in 'available software' tab. You can hide this window by disabling the setting from Client Settings: Computer Agent\Show notifications for new deployments = "False".
You can also configure the User Experience\User Notifications configuration setting for the app deployment to "Display in Software Center, and only show notifications for computer restarts".

  • Ethernet icon in system tray

    Hi All,
Can anyone tell me if there is a way to get an icon in the system tray to show if my ethernet connection is active or not. Something similar to the airport wireless icon, but for ethernet.
    Many thanks

Any idea of any unofficial packages that can provide that kind of support? I have had a google but came up with nothing.
This seems like a pretty straight-forward feature...not quite sure how apple managed to leave it out!

  • Vista Network Icon in System Tray Disappeared

I'm running Vista on my MacBook and a few weeks ago, I noticed that my networking icon that displays when i'm connected via LAN or wireless disappeared. I have no idea how to get it back. There used to be a way in XP that I know of but I'm lost here. Anyone got any ideas?

*Right Click* on an empty portion of your taskbar.
Choose Properties on the window that appears.
    Choose the *Notification Area* tab.
Look below for *System Icons* section and ensure that there is a check mark next to Network.
This will show the network/Lan/Wireless icon in the system tray.
