Identify the Model of your iMac

Does anyone know how to identify the model (version) of your iMac? I have a indigo slot-loader. But I don't know anything else about it. It doesn't have an OS loaded, and I'm having trouble getting it to read the OS CD I have. So how do I identify exactly what model it is? Is there another way to identify it? Can I look up the machine's number online somewhere?
Thanks for any help.

Hello,
Since you don't actually intend to use OS 9, you may not need to install it.
The only reason to install OS 9 is if you need to install firmware updates on the machine that are required to install OS X.
You can find a list of all the updates for your machine here:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58174
And, the ones that are specifically required for OS X are listed here:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86117
Now, if you do need these updates for your computer, then another option might be to connect your computer to another machine that does have OS 9 installed.
If your computer has a FireWire port, then you could use FireWire Target Disk Mode to boot your machine as a simulated hard drive.
Then, connect your computer to another computer that already has OS 9 running on it.
You can read about this here:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58583
You could then clone that system's hard drive to your hard drive using a backup program. Basically, duplicate that system's hard drive / OS installation to your machine.
One the installation is copied to your computer, you can disconnect the two machines, and re-boot your computer from it's own hard drive to install the firmware updates.
It is important to make sure you have all the firmware updates before you install OS X. Failure to get those firmware updates installed could result in having a machine that will not work at all if you install OS X without them.
Now, if your machine already has those updates, then you can just go directly to OS X.
You can read the discussion here to see which version of the firmware you have by following the directions in this discussion:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2707137&#2707137
If you are unable to make sense of the number you find, let me know what it is, and I'll try to help you out.
If you already have the latest firmware version for your machine, then you can go straight to OS X without worrying about installing OS 9.
Now, it would still be beneficial to get the other updates that require OS 9. But, those are not as critical as the firmware update for OS X.
I hope this helps.

  • Identifying the model - A1138 High Res

    Hello All,
I am looking at buying the 4th generation Powerbook (A1138) from Ebay but have a question. If the laptop in question has the model number A1138, is it safe to assume that the processor is 1.67GHz?
I have looked and looked and as far as I can tell this is the case. But second or third opinion would help.
    Thanks,
    Double Ohh

    Yes, that's the high-resolution 15" PBG4 with dual-layer Superdrive. That model, the last 15" G4, was only produced with a 1.67GHz processor.

  • Help with identifying the Model of a Toshiba satellite

    I have a Toshiba Satellite
I believe this is a A105, but don't know the full model number.
I ran Belarc Advisor. It did not give the full model.
    Thanks, Bob

    Hello Robert.
If per chance you are Canadian, go to the Toshiba.ca site and let it identify your model automatically. I had to do this as mine, like yours, might not be listed on the .com site.

  • Is it possible to change iWork files on your iMac without having to upload the modified version to iCloud and downloading it again for the next use ?

Recently I am getting more and more familiar with Numbers, Pages, KeyNote and I have to acknowledge they look smart in many aspects compared to Office for Mac programs ( ..only a bit of time to learn some minor things..). But what really surprises me is that while shifting from MobileMe to ICloud, Apple is not providing a real , full-service, cloud-computing platform for those who , like me, makes use of it mostly for work or business purposes.. I mean, you can do whatever from your Ipad or Iphone ( besides clearly ignoring the necessity one may build up folders with any kind of file in it, not just one categoory..) and every file you manage from these mobile devices, get saved and stored in the new modified version.. But try doing the same form your Imac or McBook Air and you wil have to download from Icloud your file, work on it and having to re-upload onto Icloud back again ==> syncing is not authomatic as it used to be by Idisk in MobileMe  !!.. A real nightmare for those who work with Apple, in my opinion.
One last thing.. I am having trouble at dragging and dropping PDF files onto Icloud, doesn't accept its format.. Although PDF files are mentioned as acceptable at Pages , for example...
I can't see the reasons for all this.. At first I thought this was all being done in order to move more and more users from Windows office to IWork programs, if it were for this, I'd be keen on changing, also because I love Iworks programs.. But I found out it's not !.. Unless people at Apple think that all business driven users of former MobileMe should quit their Imac and start working 8-10 hrs a day with the Ipad   :-) !!
No fear, I know there are plenty of cloud-computing services doing the same as IDisk, but I can't understand why Apple has given so little attention to such needs, that , I guess, are probably the same by many other Mac users..
Thankful for any help-support-opinion on this,
    Maurizio

    m,
You can submit Feedback to Apple from the Numbers menu. That's the official channel for comments about the app and suggestions for improvement. The Apple officials don't visit these discussions except to maintain the decorum.

  • What would cause a slim horizontal line across the screen of my iMac?

There is a slim line across the Center if the screen. It is horizontal. It does not appear every time I boot up, but it is causing concern.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
It would mean that your display or GPU are starting to fail, most likely the GPU, as the line is not permanent. Does the line move during the time your iMac is turned on or change if you start up in safe mode (holding the Shift key while your Mac is starting)?
A good test you can do is to make a screenshot of the screen when your iMac is showing the line. To make the screenshot, press Command, Shift and 3 keys, and the screenshot will appear in the desktop. Double-click it and see if the line appears. If it appears, it's the GPU. If not, it's the display

  • Sorting the Model vs sorting the JTable

    So,
now that I'm starting the rewrite of my program, I wanted to avoid as much dependencies as possible from the table component.
This, because my table (SwingX JXTable actually) gave me occasional problems and artefacts.
So, when I want to sort the data in the table, or filter it for example,
    would it be faster to:
    - sort the data model and reset the data in the table
    or
    - don't do anything with the model and let the table do the sorting and filtering?
    Thanks in advance.

    To OP:
    Your question is contradictory.
First you want to avoid dependencies "from the table component" (I ssume you mean "on JXTable API"). Then you go on asking what would be "faster".
Other criteria that might be of interest (in addition to "dependencies maintenance" and "speed"), could be:
    - memory usage: if you already know to filter, at the model level, your 1-M customer orders table, into a 10-lines summary for the current customer, then obviously you'll gain memory at the view level.
    - ease of programming: if all order data are in-memory, and you can switch from one customer to the other, filtering at the view level spares one call into the model layer, and probably one DB call as well. A UI developper will be more confortable.
These are contrived examples, I just want to point out that "it depends" on what are your constraints (interactions, app-specific requirements, staff skill,...).
AFAIC, I don't remember having problems with sorting and filtering using Swing's native RowSorter API (I did shoot myself in the foot because I sometimes forgot to convert indices, view-to-model and model-to-view, in the event handlers, but once you remember that you're safe).
Maybe check on a SwingX forum for the (maybe SwingX-specific) artefacts.

  • Help identifying Tecra model

I've had a series of used Tecra's over the years, and have been very happy with that.
I am now looking at buying a used Tecra M11, but I cannot find identification of the exact model from the Part # I have been given.  I was told the part number is PTME3U-04U02N--I have not been able to obtain a full model number from the seller.  Can you help me identify the model so I can look it up here.  I was not able to find this laptop either with a Google search or here on Toshiba support.  Thanks.

    Tecra M11 (PTME3U-04U02N)
    It's the part-number family  (PTME3U) that matters.
This one is not in the same one.
    Tecra A11-S3540  (PTSE3U-00R00G)
The one above is essentially like this model.

  • And improved the speed of my iMac

using autocad on my mac becomes very slow and it will increase the RAM to 8GB

I would put in as much RAM as you can afford.
8 GBs of RAM will probably just cut it, but your iMac can take up to 32 GBs of RAM.
I would up the memory in your iMac to, at least 12 GBs and if you can afford it, consider putting 16 GBs of RAM into your iMac.
I you are concern about your iMac's speed, make sure you do not have any other CPU, GPU and RAM intense applications running in the background, also.
Make sure your HD still has plenty of free space.
If you are getting low on HD space, this can slow things down.
You should have, at least 20 % or more space left on your HD.
IFbthe amount is less than this you need to consider archiving important data/files, deleting unwanted /unneeded files
or cloning your internal drive to a much larger external FW drive and clearing as much stuff off of your internal drive to make additional space on your HD.

  • Need to identify correct Model of GT70

    Hello,
I am a new member and a new owner (purchased GT70 from a friend). I was trying to upgrade drivers, BIOS, video card driver, etc. but cannot exactly identify the model. The label on the box says GT70 0NC and MKT Name GT70 0NC - 494US.
I went to the MSI site and found GT70 20C, 20D, Dragon Edition 2, Dragon Edition 2 Extreme but cannot find the 0NC.
I kindly request some help to understand which model from the MSI site should I choose to upgrade drivers, BIOS, etc.
    Thanks in advance.

can the police track your ipod using the serial number?

No. The SN will only help identify the iPod as yours if it is recovered.
    - If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.
    - You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have the iPod play a sound via iCloud.
    - If not shown, then you will have to use the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
    - Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police
    - There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it.

  • Issues playing The Witcher 2 on iMac (2013 model)

Hello, I wanted to buy the witcher 2 off the app store...
I'm getting this error when I click the buy button?
I have compared the specs and my computer certainly can handle the minimum req and i'm pretty sure the recommended too?
I'm on a late 2013 model iMac. Is it a genuine problem with the hardware? or is there some workaround?  (I notice it says intel integrated graphics are not supported in the recommended specs? perhaps that's the issue?)

    Welcome ac,
Due to a serious forum bug that the Hosts seem to be unable to eradicate, your screenshot did not show up for me and probably other users. Can yo ustate what is says in text form?
We need to know more about your iMac as there are different equipment levels and options. First we need to know the Mac OSX version you have.
Then we need an idea of your hardware config, especially RAM and video hardware info. Try this:
Please download and install this free utility:
    http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck
It is secure and written by one of our most valued members to allow users to show details of their computer's configuration in Apple Support Communities without revealing any sensitive personal data.
Run the program and click the "Copy report to clipboard" button when it displays the results. Then return here and paste the report into a response to your initial post. It can often show if any harmful files/programs are dragging down your performance or causing the incompatibility you experienced.

  • How reliable is the Mac Mini or iMac (2009) models?

Greetings to you all. I have a question directed at anyone who owns the 2009 Mac Mini or has recently bought a Mac Mini either last year 2009 or this year, 2010. My Acer Aspire L-100 finally died on 29th Dec 2009 as a result of USB failure caused by a windows auto update. Fed up with Microsoft, I am thinking about switching over to Mac and thought the Mac Mini or iMac would be a good start. I am however troubled by the numerous complaints I am reading on the Apple website posts regarding the 2009 model Mac Mini loosing sound after a month or two of use and some posts claim that the sound on their Mac Mini is distorted, crackling and some had broken systems out of the box. How many of you have had similar sound issues with the Mac Mini? Also, is it better to get the iMac 21.5 inch instead? Has anyone had hardware issues with the Mac Mini and or the 21.5 inch iMac in less than 2-6 months of use? If so please let me know so that I can make up my mind, whether to purchase Mac computer platform or just build my own customized machine. What I need to know is, how reliable or durable is the mac mini computer, especially the 2009 model and how does the mac mini, especially with its small size, handle temperatures? Does the mac mini overheat? Please help. All information will be highly appreciated.

Remember, Apple offers a 1 year hardware warranty and 90 days free software support, both of which can be extended to three years from date of computer's purchase. This means if you appear to have what is a technical issue with your machine off the bat, Apple will cover the lemon issue, if it is obvious it is not an issue you the user could have caused. Mind you, if issues appear much later during the ownership, it gets harder to justify that it is a manufacturer issue. As long as you don't upgrade the internal hardware, the hardware test CD that comes with the machine will be able to tell if there is a manufacturer issue with the machine. All bets are off, if you change the RAM, or hard drive beyond the specs of the machine. Apple publishes the specs of the machine on http://support.apple.com/
Your machine shouldn't overheat unless you excede the published specs.
The advantage of the Mac is that malware and viruses are practically a nonissue, and everything you usually could desire is already built-in to the machine. So while you could build your own machine, you can't really get the integrated hardware and software as you do with the Mac.
Yes, the 27" iMac has been hit hard with issues, more around the display than anything else. I for one, if were forced to get an iMac, would get the 21.5".
I've not seen any specific Mac Mini issues really come to the fore.
If sound is lost on a Mac Mini, it usually is due to the fact that minijack connectors themselves are fragile to begin with, and endusers tend to jiggle them a lot in the connector, causing the connectivity to get lost. If you are careful to follow these directions about cables*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/frayguide.html
You should avoid most of those issues. Thankfully there are 5 USB ports on Mac Minis, and USB audio is frequently better than the built-in audio, except when adding your own 5.1 speaker system with mini-Toslink connector speakers.
Don't forget the number of posters to this board, don't even amount to 1 tenth of a percent of all purchasers of iMacs, Mac Minis, or MacBooks any one quarter. Thus the remark you said was "rude" is not. It is factual. You are basing your information on what amounts to less odds of happening than a space program disaster with NASA. Mostly people who have problems are posting, and those who don't rarely do post.
I recently had a hard drive die after the three year warranty was spent, but hard drives I've seen die on Acers and Dells on the first day of ownership too, so that's nothing new. Backing up your data is the best way to deal with data loss*:
