Identifying Unused Ports

We have recently purchased Amtech design software with a flexnet service licence and need to identify an unused port exclusive use of flexnet communications.   Is there a prefered method for identifying a suitable port.
Thanks for your help

Hi MZAMike,
Dose the Amtech design only need a unused port? Are there any other requirement?
We could use the command netstat –ano in CMD to see the used port.
Additionally, we could use the TCPView to show us detailed listings of all TCP and UDP endpoints on the system.
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/Sysinternals/bb897437.aspx
It is recommended to use high numbered ports.
As this issue is related to Amtech design software, it is recommended to seek help by contact the Amtech support.

  • How to Block / Hardening of "Unused Ports" in OracleAS-10gAS

    Hi All,
I have installed Oracle 10gAS PatchSet-2 9.0.4.2.0 and Windows-2000 SP-4 OS. The Both instances (INFRA & Mid-Tier) are installed on same box. My AS is working fine and all components are working great.
    +
I can find-out the ports being used/configured by 10gAS of this installation. Rest all other Ports are open as such on this OS and are not being used. So basically i want to "Block all those Unused Ports of this 10gAS installation"
    1. Is it Possible..? If Yes! how to start about this.
    2. Does Oracle Provide a Documentation on this or the details of this is included anywhere in any of the Docs.?
This has been pointed out by one of our Corporate Auditors who has audited our entire IT Infrastructure setup and given us that comment. Can anybody would help me in this regard or suggest me tips / docs. which could be useful to me. Looking for ur help.
    Regards,

    Hello,
I would clarify what i need and intend to do......
Let say my HTTP Server is configured and listening at port 7779 & 7778. And the range of this is 7777 - 7999 as provided by App.Serevr.
SO i want to block all the ports of above range and ONLY want to open or allow requests coming for Port No. 7779 or 7778.
What all is being used by App.Server is know to us and we can find it out and list it....but how to block them...here in App.Server.

  • Help identifying a port

Hey, I just got a w510 and am having trouble identifying a port right above the usb/eSATA combo port. It's long and thin, almost looks like it's meant for setting RFID cards or something. Any body have any clues? I can't seem to find any specs on it. Maybe it's just an open slot, or an express card I haven't seen before.
You can see the slot here right above the combo, 1394 and wifi switch
    http://www.lenovo.com/images/OneWebImages/SubSeries/gallery/laptops/ThinkPad-W530-Laptop-PC-4-Side-V...
It does fit a regular type ID card rather snuggly.
    Thanks for the help!

okie dokie, after more research, I think it's a smart card reader. Which is pretty cool. Now this has me wondering, is this a read only interface, or can it wrtie data to smart cards? As in, could I potentially create an admin key and a regular user key?
When I run lspci, I don't see anything regarding a smart card reader, so I'm also wondering is it possible this slot is just empty? (found it in lsusb) Or is the hardware there, and just need the right drivers (sounds like libccid)?
    Thanks again

  • Use CW to shutdown unused ports?

Is there a way to have CW (LMS 3.2) shutdown ports that have been inactive for X number of days? I know Campus Manager has the "Reclaim Unused ports UP" where I can enter a number of days and it will give me a list of all the ports that have been unused and are in Admin status of UP, but I'd like to apply that report to shutting down those ports.
    Any thoughts?
I could run the above mentioned report and then create a netconfig job for each switch, but that could get annoying if I have to do a large number of switches.
In regards to the reports from Campus manager, is that data gathered from the periodic data collections? How can I tell if CM was able to successfully collect the data?
    Appreciate any help. Thanks!

No, Campus Manager cannot automatically shutdown unused up ports.  Doing a Netconfig job would work, but as you said, it could get tedious.  The data for these reports is built from User Tracking acquisition data.  You can always check to see if an acquisition completed, but checking the Campus Manager homepage.  Check the last completion date, and make sure it corresponds with a recently scheduled UT acquisition.

  • Identifying Unused conditions

    I've just inherited a load of Discoverer 9i workbooks from a co-worker.
Each has a number of conditions defined within each workbook (i.e. they don't come from the EUL) which aren't actually used on any of the worksheets. I'd like to delete them, but it's time consuming to manually go through each sheet to confirm that it doesn't use a given condition.
All these reports are stored within the database, so there should be a table somewhere that I could query to find this information. eul5_expressions is close, but it only seems to have the EUL-based conditions in it.
Does anybody know if/how I can do this?

  • Programmatically identifying com ports by their physical port number

I have a system with a NI PXI 8420/16 card.  Once in a while a glitch in my PXI system occurs such that my physical RS-232 ports get re-assigned different com port numbers.  Then I have to go into MAX and reassign my aliases to re-align my LabVIEW application with my port hardware.  Is there a way to stop these glitches from happenning?  OR is there a way to programmatically identify a physical port's com number?

    hi friend
    read this one
Each port is identified by a number from 1 to 65,535. Each port
can be allocated to a particular service.
For example, the HTTP service, which is used by the Web, generally runs on port 80:
we say that a web server listens on port 80 for incoming connections. SMTP or email
    servers run on port 25.
Port numbers from 1 to 1023 are reserved for well-known services such as finger, FTP,
    HTTP,SMTP etc.
Well Known Port Numbers (0 through 1023)
    2. Registered Port Numbers (1024 through 49151)
    3. Dynamic Port Numbers (49152 through 65535)
so use port no above 1024, it might solve your problem

  • How do I identify the ports to open on my cisco router from Rogers to allow access through my apple tv - I am not using wireless!

I only have spotty access at best through m Apple TV to itunes, netflix and utube.  I am  Rogers subscriber (feel my pain) and am now using their CISCO DCP3825 router.  Apple TV purchased this past Christmas.  I am not using wireless. No issues prior to replacing my old router and Rogers modem to go to DCP3825.

Rogers tech support was of no help - suggested I open some ports - where do I go for the list(s)?

  • How to Identify unused columns in a table

    Hiiya..
Is there a way to find out that following columns of table X,Y, Z have never been used. So that, I can check with the FCs and mark them un-used (using ALTER TABLE).
I don't want to go through every line of (avlbl) PLSQL code to identify that so and so column of so and so table has never been used. Is there any view or any sys proc/pkg using which I can identify them.
    TIA

    Guido
Not getting you exactly. What I am doing is pick all the columns one by one and search in all_source (like where TEXT like %COLUMN_NAME%). Now what about 'AND <UnusedColumn> IS NULL'

  • Any way to find unused ports in Prime LMS 4.2.3 ?

    Hi all,
We have just installed Prime LMS 4.2.3 (about a week ago), and it is pretty much working as expected, except for one thing - I cannot get any data back from the reclaim ports report.
I have tried both the Ports Up and Ports Down options, and have even taken the time frame down to one day, but always receive a "no records" result. Has anyone got this working?
Pretty much every other report I've tried so far returns results, just not this one.... We really need to use it to determine (over a period of time) what our actual port usage is for our replacement schedule over the next few years.
    -Pete

    Hi Afroz,
The detailed device report is really useful, as it contains the time of the port change - I ran it for the switch I was interested in, and then exported the data into Excel and sorted on port status and change date to get the info I needed.
I also ran the "Reclaim up ports" again with the interval set for 15 days with zero result, however when I changed this to 5 days I started to get some info - my guess is that the data that is needed  for this report is collected once every week or so.
My server has been running for nearly two weeks now, so I will let it do it's thing for about a month, then run the report again to get some better statistics.
Thanks for your suggestions, much appreciated !

  • Identifying the port number where Tomcat is running.

I want to mail the URL of the my application dynamically with the system generated mails. With the help of java.net package I am able to get the IP address of the system, but I have hard coded the port no in the URL. I want to make the port no. also dynamic (E.g. IP address is not hard coded).
The servlet is deployed to the Tomcat server. What code I write to know the port on which the tomcat is running ?
    thanks in advance,
    Mukesh.

You could use ServletRequest.getServerPort() to find out the port number on which the request is being sent by the client but I don't know if this will help you.
People on the forum help others voluntarily, it's not their job.
    Help them help you.
Learn how to ask questions first: http://faq.javaranch.com/java/HowToAskQuestionsOnJavaRanch
(Yes I know it's on JavaRanch but I think it applies everywhere)
EDIT: ServletRequest.getLocaPort() gives the port at which the request is received; I'm not quite sure what the difference is ( I can guess but I'm not certain ) and I don't know which, if either, will be of use to you.

  • Using EEM to identify destination port of incoming traffic

I'm using the following script to pull out the source port from a syslog message generated by an ACL.  The intent is to grab the destination port for use later in the script:
    no event manager applet REDIRECT
    event manager applet REDIRECT
    event syslog pattern "IPACCESSLOGP:"
    action 10  cli command "enable"
    action 15  wait 2
action 100 cli command "show log | i IPACCESSLOGP"
    action 105 wait 2
    action 120 regexp "[0-9.]+\)," "$_cli_result" result
    action 130 if $_regexp_result eq 1
    action 135  string trimright "$result" "),"
    action 140  puts "PORT:$_string_result"
    action 150 else
    action 160  puts "NO MATCH"
    action 170 end
The isssue is that if the logging buffer has no entries, the script appears to grab the port correctly.  If there are multiple ACL syslog messages, it will process the first one it finds and print out the port correctly.  I have debugged "event man action cli" and cannot determine why the match is failing (output below):

I made a modification to the script that clears the log file after it runs....that appears to hav fixed the issue with it reading the port information from the first syslog message.    But the script only works when being debugged ("debug event man action cli") and then only gets "NO MATCH" when debugging is disabled.  Yikes!
