IDS-4235 boots to GRUB after applying 6.0(3)E1

6.0(3)E1 patch applied successfully to our non-production IDS-4215. Applying the patch to our production IDS-4235 causes it to boot directly to grub> command prompt. It appears the system files are there. What command do I need to issue for grub to finish patching and can someone share the content of /boot/boot/grub.conf from IDS-4235 with 6.0(3)E1 so I can boot it manually? Thank you.

Matthew, appreciate you sharing the grub.conf content. As a note for others, from grub I was able to manually boot with the three lines from the default 'Cisco IPS' section:
root (hd0,0)
kernel /vmlinuz-2.4.30-IDS-smp-bigphys ro ramdisk_size=76800 rootrw=/dev/sda2 root=/dev/ram0 init=loadrc nousb console=ttyS0 htlblow=32 hugepages=176
initrd (hd0,0)/runtime.gz
As it turns out the 6.0(3)E1 service pack wiped the content of grub.conf file which is mounted as read only from /dev/boot as /boot. To restore the content of grub.conf as root user (after logging in with support account and doing "su -") remount the filesystem as read write with the following command:
mount -o remount,rw /dev/boot
After restoring grub.conf the appliance can be reloaded normally without manual intervention. Fortunately, it appears the patch broke early enough in the process that nothing else other than grub.conf, as far as I can tell, was affected. The appliance is reporting the prior 6.0(2)E1 version.
I just got off the phone with our reseller support and they and Cisco finally admitted that it's a known issue classified as unreleased bug after saying that IDS-4235 is not supported with 6.0(3)E1 service pack then saying a reimage is needed to fix the grub issue.

  • Unable to boot the sytem after applying kernel patch 118844-27

We have an hp ProLiant DL380 Storage server connected to HP StorageWorks Moduler Smart Array 30 via SCSI. Solaris 03/05 was installed previously on this system with kernel 118844-20. When I queried and installed all required patches with 'smpatch add -i .. ' command, all patches applied and the system is rebooted. After reboot, the system kept restarting. I followed the instructions on Sun Alert document 102087, and installed grub using 01/06 1st CDROM. It installed successfully, but problem persisted. The systems started booting, but before printing 'Configuring devices' the system rebooted again. Providing -v option to the kernel, it lastly printed a PCI device id (/pci@....) and after 2-3 seconds rebooted again.
Finally I had to reinstall the solaris (this time 01/06). The disk was accessible after booting with CD ROM, and I was able to get cylinder numbers of disk, and I installed the new system to the root partition of the other live upgrade environment. The boot disk was partitioned under linux, it was three partitions, Solaris2 (50GB),Solaris(4GB),Linux(18GB). Installation medium told that the fdisk partition was invalid, and i repartitioned the whole disk again.
System up and running Solaris 10 01/06 now, but the strange thing is that, previously hard disk (both boot disk and disks on array) locations were identified as '/dev/rdsk/c0tx' but now, the system sees that hard disks at '/dev/c1tx' and CDROM at '/dev/c0t0'.
Now I want to ask tow questions:
    * Could this disk number change made the system unbootable previously?
    * May I safely apply patch 118844-28 to the system
    -Thanks

Here's a similar topic https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=536210 also if that doesn't work you should install vesa as it also says it's not found in your log.

Thank you for sharing the solution.
If your question was resolved/answered, you should mark the thread as "answered".
Then you should make e new thread/question for the new error you get. This will make it alot easier for other users, modetrators and Microsoft to help you. It will also make it much eaiser for othe people with the same issue to search the forums.
    Thank you.

  • SQL Developer 1.5.1 failed to start after applying patchset 11.1.0.7

After applying patchset 11.1.0.7 to Oracle 11g (11.1.0.6) running on Windows 2003, when starting SQL Developer 1.5.1 I got an error:
"Unable to find main class. Class specified is: oracle/ide/boot/Launcher".
    Any idea? Thanks.

It is possible that the patch has replaced you shortcut with one pointing to the version within the 11g home. Try running sqldeveloper directly from the executable in the 151 directory.

Reinstalling Mavericks depends on several factors:
if you erased your recovery partition
what OS originally came on your Mac.
I'll assume you don't have a backup available that you made before your mishap,  because you didn't mention it.
That's really the take home message here: have a backup!
If you still have your recovery partition:
boot into the recovery partition (command R at restart)
use the recovery partition to reinstall Mavericks. see: OS X: About OS X Recovery
if you do not still have your recovery partition, then it depends on whether your Mac originally came with installer disks or not.
If it originally came with installer disks, you would boot from the installer disks, erase your HD, and then reinstall the OS that is on the installer disks, and then upgrade as necessary until you get to Mavericks.
If your mac did not originally come with installer disks, but you managed to erase your recovery partition, then you can try to boot into internet recovery (option-command-R at restart), and use internet recovery to erase your HD and reinstall the OS that originally came with your computer, and then upgrade to Mavericks if you need to. See: Hands on with Mountain Lion's OS X Recovery and Internet Recovery | Macworld
(the reference refers to ML but it applies just as well to Mavericks).

  • Upgrade from IDS 4235 to IPS 5.0 license

Dear sirs. I have several 4235 sensors and SMARTnet 8x5xNBD contracts on each of them.
Have I upgrade their software to IPS v5.0 within this contracts or I should get licenses for the IPS?

Some one is feeding you a line of crap.
The main announcement for Cisco IDS version 5.0 has this 'fine print' at the bottom of the page:
"*Cisco IPS Sensor Software Version 5.0 is supported on the Cisco IDS 4215, IDS 4235, IPS 4240, IPS 4255, and IPS 4250-XL appliances and on the IDSM-2. It is supported in the promiscuous-based IDS mode only, for the IDS 4210 and the Cisco IDS Network Module (NM-CIDS).
Inline IPS services require more than one monitoring interface on Cisco IPS 4200 Series sensors."
This is posted at the following URL:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/vpndevc/ps4077/prod_bulletin0900aecd801e65b9.html
Also, Cisco has stated the same thing in the 'Read Me' file that accompanies the software update:
"You can apply the IPS-K9-maj-5.0-1-S149.rpm.pkg major update to the following IDS & IPS version 4.1 sensors:
    - IPS-42xx Cisco Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) sensors
    - IDS-42xx Cisco Intrusion Detection System (IDS) sensors (except for the IDS-4220 and the IDS-4230 series)
    - WS-SVC-IDSM2 series Intrusion Detection System Module (IDSM2)
    - NM-CIDS IDS Network Module for Cisco 26xx, 3660, and 37xx Router Families
It is not compatible with the IDS-4220 and IDS-4230 series IDS sensors, the NRS-xx series IDS sensors, or the WS-X6381-IDS series Intrusion Detection System Module (IDSM)."
    I hope this helps,

  • Upgrading IDSM2 and IDS 4235

I have 12 IDSM2 and 4 IDS 4235 managed through VMS, I configured automatic download of signature updates but I notice that S189 was missed.
Is it possible to apply the last Service Pack 4.1.5 from VMS? If yes do I simply have to download the file in the correct directory and apply it as a normal signature update or what method shall I use? I need to manage the update process centrally because my IDS systems are all remote.
    Thanks for your help,
    Chiara

I tried. There is no way to do it. VMS returns a bad file type and effectively the service pack is .rpm.pkg while files managed during updates by VMS are .zip containing .rpm.pkg and other files.
I manually did the update on every IDS by ftp and command line and where the update succeeded I had to re-import the sensor on VMS, otherwise the version was not aligned.
Is this the power of a central management platform?

  • 2012R2 Application installation steps after deploying OS from Task sequence is slow after applying hotfix 2910552

We are currently using CM2012r2 for Endpoint protection, and in trying to save licensing costs, I have been given the task of doing imaging and application deployment through CM as well... everything started off well... noticed that imaging took a lot longer
than I remembered when I used CM2007 at my previous employer. Found we needed hotfix 2910522 and what took an hour to download now only takes 5 minutes (yay!) Then started other strange issues.  Mostly the fact that in the task sequence, the install application
blocks (we have 3 with 4-8 apps each) suddenly got really slow to execute. (boo!)  The application blocks eventually finish, but take about 5 hours and only the last block actually installs.    For example: 7zip takes 15 minutes to "install"
but since it isn't in the last block, it doesn't in fact install on the system.
so here is what I know so far:
Updated the boot image after applying the hotfix
Added the hotfix to the Windows and configmgr setup step command line to install the patch
Verified that all applications install correctly outside of the task sequence.
Created a new task sequence just in case the hotfix messed something up.
    here is what I've noticed:
Only happens on workstations that have been imaged previously by CM (even if I remove the machine from AD and CM)
    New machines image just dandy
not hardware specific (tested on 5 different laptop models and 3 desktop models)
workstations that have the issue, when finished, only installed the applications from the last block (4 apps) and none from the previous 2 blocks (16 applications)
If imaged new (not previously known) it installs the client correctly and it checks in, ones with the issue are in internet only mode and don't see the PKI cert for the machine, and will not check in.
Things I've checked, double checked, verified, and done:
All applications have the box for "allow this application to be installed from the Install Application task sequence action..."
applications are on all distribution points
    Distribution points are healthy
One MP/DP was complaining about how it couldn't access a SMS folder.  uninstalled the roles, let it sit over the weekend, reinstalled this morning
Verified that the servers were on 10Gb full and were not throwing error on the line
Antivirus scanning was not scanning the store (used the built in template for scep)
Next steps that I am going to try:
create a new task sequence and split up install application blocks to only have single applications in them
recreate the boot wim for the media
     Thanks in advance

So this issue of yours is in B&C -task sequence? You're using capture CD for capturing, why? Why not automate the build entirely.
    I'd suggest you add this:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2775511/en-us to your BUILD image (either online of offline, in the WinPE -phase), it fixes many WMI related problems.
After you've done your golden .wim, deploy it to your clients.
We don't do a build and capture because certain applications require handling on our part. Management has said it needs to be a certain way, therefore this is how we have to build it.  (mostly settings, and views that can't be controlled through registry,
Group Policy, etc.)  There are users that if they have to click on an accept button or it isn't the right color, or they want a different icon in their lab, then they go to the top and it comes back down to us, and our lives become miserable.
We create the image in audit mode, capture it using boot media, and sequence in things that are updated constantly (flash, shockwave, java, etc.) through the task sequence.
in relation to that KB, why would it work on new machines but not ones that have been touched before?

  • Boots into grub shell

    Hello everyone
I am brand new to arch, and have just attempted my first netinstall. The installation seemed to run smoothly, and I followed along on the beginner installation guide. I finished the installation and rebooted, and this is where the problem comes in. I assume I must have made some kind of an error while installing grub, because the computer loads into a kind of grub shell, which looks like this...
GNU GRUB version 0.97 (638K lower / 980928k upper memory)
[ Minimal BASH-like line editing is supported. For the first word, TAB lists possible command completions. Anywhere else TAB lists the possible completions of a device / filename. ]
    grub>
I'm not quite sure what I need to do from here. After a quick google I found http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/GRUB, and skimmed untill I got to something that looked relevant.
The following example is for systems with a separate /boot partition:
    grub> find /grub/stage1
I let the installer auto partition my external hard drive, and I'm nearly positive it added a 100mb boot partition. I thought this might help locate some kind of a file that GRUB was missing for whatever reason, but the output of the above command is:
    Error15: File not found
If someone could help me get the boot loader up and working that would be awesome! As a sidenote, I am (at least attempting) to dual boot windows and arch.
    All help is appriciated

Ok, I wiped the windows install to make the installation easier, and am using only one hard drive (/dev/sda). I succesfully went through the installation and installed the boot loader. And for the first time when rebooting after the installation I recieved the boot selections screen, containing arch, and arch fall back. I happily chose arch, and it began running through the start up. After a point things stopped, and I examined the console on the screen finding:
Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!
    Pid 1, comm:kinit Not tainted 2.6.30-ARCH #1
This was followed by a 'call trace' containing some miscelaneous garble. I'm not sure what this means, what do I need to do to fox this? In case it help I belive the kernel line looked like this:
    title Arch Linux (Main)
    root (hd0,0)
    kernel /vmlinuz26 root=/dev/sda1 vga=773
    initrd /kernel26.img
I'm not sure if this is relevant or not, but I installed the bootloader to /dev/sda.
    Thanks for any help!

  • After applying BM3.8.5_ir1: "IKESetupSocket: Unable to bind socket!", IKE not loading

    Hello,
I just applied the Interim Release 1 BM3.8.5 and rebootet the server after at
least several months of uptime when the patch files were applied - so it might be
related to 385_ir1; Or something went wrong during the last months of uptime that
way; that a reboot just caused the trouble to be revealed.
Well, on the next reboot after applying BM3.8.5_ir1 I got this on the IKE screen:
    -------------------------- IKE SCREEN ----------------------------------

As it's a socket error I thought that applying the latest TCP patch might help
    out:
TCP681K, another reboot, but no change at all.
As IKE isn't loading server side all VNP functions are not operational.
PKIDIAG is without errors, if these certificates should interact with IKE as well
(I honestly have to state, that I don't know, if or if not these Certs interact
    with IKE ...)
Anybody a quick solution? Otherwise I'll try to backrev to BM3.8.5 and the prior
    TCP version.
    Thanks for any input.

    Hello,
after investigating in a totally wrong direction for many hours <doh!> I finally
back-rev.ed the lib files from c:\nwserver\!backup.lib and
sys:system\!backup.lib, after that was done the IKE had no trouble any more.
In the load sequence of the server's reboot NMAS had a load error that pointed in
that direction... (several DS*.NLMs in the LIB patch files)
I have a looger screen save file of both, a "trouble boot" and a clean boot after
removing the patch files. What I missed was to draw a config.txt of the trouble
    state. :(
Quite interesting is the fact, that after may be 30 - 60 Minuntes of uptime the
BM had difficulties to access the C: drive:
    ----------------------------Logger Screen ------------------------------------
NetWare Configuration File Transfer Cache to DOS Error: 0x4
Registry rolling back to last known good registry file.
    ----------------------------Logger Screen ------------------------------------
Then no NLMs could be loaded any more at all: Neither DOS side, nor sys:system or
from anywhere else. Funny fact: With the already loaded toolbox a "DIR" was
presenting everything absolutely normal, DOS and SYS: side....
Well, the NBM-Rule-Container is restored now from tape, the filters.txt is as it
was before (seveal reboots) and with my 2nd. BM install I was painfully
remembered that there can be just one BM per container <grrr> ;) (nice design...)
Patches applied when the trouble showed up
    NW6.5SP6
    BM3.8SP5
plus the hotfixes available till Dec 2007
Finally I applied these (many hours ago >-O~ )
    LIBCSP6B
    NWLIB6K
    WSOCK6N
    TCP681K
    BM3.8.5_ir1
.... in the timed order they were given to the public (I didn't check right now,
the order above isn't necessarily the right order I used.)
If someone should be interested in the logger.txt of both states, they are too
large for *one* posting here, drop me an email.
    Regards, Rudi.

  • Getting windows to boot from grub [Resolved]

I have a netbook that I'd like to put windows on. I reserved a primary partition (sda4) for it (boot flag/ntfs), and since I have no other way to install it but through flash memory, I made a small, clean install onto disk and used dd to copy everything over to the flash drive. Normally I'm able to just copy all the data over (dd if=/dev/sdam of=/dev/sdbn), and the mbr stuff over (dd if=/dev/sda of=/dev/sdb bs=446 count=1), and everything is good, but I can't get the windows partition to boot after I copy it over. I've tried fiddling w/ grub and the boot.ini file (different partition numbers), and copying the mbr to the beginning of sda (hosed grub) and the beginning of sda4 (hosed the windows partition), but when I try to boot windows grub hangs w/ the boot information and a flashing cursor. Any ideas as to what needs to be done to get windows to boot?

It wasn't a menu.lst or boot.ini issue as far as I can tell. I tried just about every partition permutation I could in both files and nothing worked. I eventually bit the bullet and deleted boot and swap so I could just install XP on the first partition and everything was fine after that.
My best guess is that the MBRs, both the one written through the USB stick version of the XP install and the versions I pulled off of other windows installs, weren't correct, and wouldn't point to the correct partition. I can't remember exactly, but odds are when I encountered this in the past I probably just dropped the XP install CD again so it would write the correct data to the MBR and reinstalled grub, but since I couldn't do that in this case I was kinda hosed. The only thing that I didn't try and could have worked was making a clean XP install on the third partition of a hard drive and using that MBR.

  • Report Server URL field no longer visible in Dashboard Designer after applying SP1 and the October 2011 CU

    Environment: 1 WFE on W2K8Ent x64 SP2 | 1 App Server on W2K8 Standard x64 SP2 | 1 Dedicated SQL Server 2008 R2
    SharePoint 2010 Enterprise Edition
I recently applied SP1 and the October 2011 CU (Server updates, not foundation) on both the WFE and the App server and now I'm experiencing an issue with PerformancePoint Dashboard Designer in that when I want to deploy a new SSRS report, I no longer have
the ability to indicate the report server url under the report settings section because it's missing.  I also do not have the ability to preview the report nor can I modify any of the settings like Zoom or Format as they're greyed out.
I've been researching for several days now and cannot find anything to remedy my issue. I have reviewed the upgrade logs on both the WFE and App server ... I ran the product config wizard after applying the SP and the update ... Sharepoint is configured
to use Windows Integrated Mode for the reporting services configuration via Central Admin.
I noticed that the web config for my app was updated and compared that against a backup of the old web config and I mainly see diffs in version references for reporting services, etc.  (Ex. version 10 in the old, 11 in the new/updated config file).
Anyone else out there have this same issue?  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Chad

Ultimately, I ended up installing SharePoint 2010 RTM on a separate system and then copied the folder with the PerformancePoint Dashboard Designer and put that on my PC at work.  If you open a PerformancePoint report inside SharePoint, it
will default to the version of the update so be sure to open up the designer from wherever you store it on your PC.  You'll know if it's the right one anyways if the URL is missing.
Also, once you've opened the RTM version, this will be the one that opens from the SharePoint shortcut via the Windows Start->All Programs->SharePoint Folder.
