IE7 not showing SWF?

We had some Captivate 2 SWF files on an ASP page that were
working fine, however needed to be updated. We have since had
Captivate 3 installed and we reworked them and republished them and
now the new files are not working on some of the IE7 browsers. The
ASP page only uses the <EMBED> tags to put the SWF on the
page. If we take the same SWF URL and put it on a page that uses
both <OBJECT> and <EMBED> it works fine across all
browsers.
Is there an IE7 setting that might be causing these to not
work on some?
Thank you.

The Embed tag has been deprecated in IE for a while now - I'm
surprised
it worked at all in IE7. Embed is really only used for
Mozilla-based (or
non-IE) browsers now. IE *requires* (afaik) the Object tag.

  • HELP DREAMWEAVER CS4 NOT SHOWING SWF FILES

I have a presentation in 2 days in Tokyo. And I'm panicking.
I'm on am Intel Mac OS X 10.4.11.
I have the latest version of Flash Player 10 installed. (Not the brand new beta version).
I created a great website in Dreamweaver MX a few years ago.
I never had ANY issues with .swf files displaying until using Dreamweaver CS4.
I updated my photography portfolios in Adobe Bridge, and used Dreamweaver CS4 to link the updates.
    NOTHING MORE THAN THAT!
Then, NONE of the .swf files that were always viewable are showing.
There is absolutely NO Flash content showing on any page of the site now.
Not even in browser view in Safari, or Firefox.
I uploaded the files along with the newly created SCRIPTS folder to my server, and still no .swf files are viewable.
These are NOT FLV files they are .swf files that were imbedded properly, and were always viewable. Until now.
I have to go to Tokyo in two days and give a presentation of this site.
    What is the problem?
The attached files show the view in Dreamweaver CS4. The view in Safari, and the view in Firefox.
I'm screwed for a desperately needed job in Tokyo if I can't get this fixed ASAP.
    Please help.

i think you are on to something here. but i am not sure how to go about fixing this.
    are you saying the "../s
    should be replaced with "S
where is this code located? in the source code of each page that has the swf files? i should replace it with the correct version you copy and pasted? and that should resolve the problem?
big thanks if this is the issue.
    <script src="../scripts/AC_RunActiveContent.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
The correct link to that file would be this -
    <script src="Scripts/AC_RunActiveContent.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
Note the "S" in place of the "s".  *nix servers are case sensitive.

  • Flash Player not showing SWF movie

    Hi Everyone-
First off thank you for anyone that is willing to send advise my way.
    I am using Windows 7 - Indesign CS5
I have created a SWF movie exported from Flash with playback component.
I have imported that SWF into Indesign CS5 and created an interactive SWF with a SWF movie embedded.
This SWF works beautifully on my machine and others that have access to the same server - however when I remove the file with Resources foldes to another machine/ location the SWF movie will not display. It DOES display the playback component (looping continuously)  but NO SWF movie.
My guess is that I am missing a file in the Resources folder but I am clueless as to what additional file I could be missing.
    Thanks for your help!

Thanks! I posted my issue there first......no one has an answer as of yet.

    What are your thoughts?
    Thank you

I'm troubled by these answers because they seem to further muddy the water.  Here's the important concept -
All links in the TEMPLATE file should be one of three kinds -
    1.  Relative to the template file, e.g.,
<a href="../ (meaning that you must go up one level from the template folder
to reach the root of the site, hence all other files, since none of them
should be in the templates folder)
    2.  Relative to the site root, e.g.,
<a href="/ (meaning that one would begin looking for the linked file at the
root of the site and follow the pathing from that point)
    3.  Absolute, e.g.,
<a href="http:// (meaning that the link is to a page external to the site).
Seems that none of the suggestions are putting you on that path first.

  • Shape Layer not showing up in my .swf file.

    Hello All,
I was working on creating a banner that I export as a .swf file and I tried to create a rounded rectangle with only the stroke showing up so it then the banner would appear to have rounded corners on the website. After I exported the file to a .swf I noticed that the rounded rectangle shape layer I had in my project did not show up. Can anyone help me figure out why?
Here is a screen shot of the banner with a grey outline shape layer. Its there with 100% opacity and everything.
And here is what the .swf looks like. (see no outline?!)
If anyone knows how to make my shape layer appear here that would be fantastic.
Oh and just in case here are the export options I choose. File > Export > Adobe Flash (.swf)...

I gave the a try and noticed that the color quality of the other elements in my banner. (colored text) had poor .jpg quality even when I upped the .jpg quality. Do you have any recommendations on how I can rasterize my border? Ill jump into illustrator or photoshop and play around with some files and them import them to see if I can find a work around...
see crummy color quality that text was suppose to be a nice dark blue.

  • Header not showing up in Firefox (but OK in IE7)

    Hello everyone.
I'm hoping someone can help me with this situation. I'm
having a problem with my header sometimes not showing up in Firefox
2.0 (I'm using 2.0.0.13), yet it shows up fine in IE7. The problem
is intermittent, sometimes it displays as it should and other times
it's not there (the header is a JPG, 1000x125 pixels, around 25k in
file size). Sometimes clicking the "Go" button will make it appear
(other times not) and sometimes "refresh" will do the same or make
it "disappear" if it's already there. I'm using DW MX 2004 and I
don't remember having this problem before until just recently on
some pages that I made from scratch. Here is an
    example of one of
the pages. So far it's a pretty simple layout using a table, a
header and a few horizontal buttons.
If it the header shows up in Firefox, please refresh or
reload and see if it no longer shows up.
I'm wondering if I should be doing something else in DW for
the header so that it will show up every time in Firefox. I can
post the code if I need to, or you can view it when you visit the
    page.
    Can someone please help?
    Thank you

  • PNG pictures not showing up in IE7 after Quicktime Install

I am having a problem on my Vista box. PNG images are not showing in IE - not on any website since installing Quicktime.
It seems this has something to do with Apple's Quicktime. I have gone to MIME and File Assoc. settings in Quicktime and set the images to open on the machine with Photoshop - this works fine. But when I try to view a PNG on the web I get the "red X" image not found.
I have tried this registry fix: http://www.winhelponline.com/articles/202/1/, But it does not work and gives an error.
Also, when I try to open an PNG in IE locally on my machine it's using Quicktime to try and open the file. Example: When calling this image on my machine via IE, Quicktime is opening this png file instead of simply showing the file in the browser.
    C:\Users\neal\Web Sites\images\cancel_f2.png
I am also including links to screen shots from a program called MIME View which obviously shows how Quicktime seems to have 'hijacked' PNG images??? I am also including a screen shot of the settings for a jpg, which I assume should be about the same for a PNG.
    PNG: http://www.nealwhitley.com/png-properties.jpg
    JPG: http://www.nealwhitley.com/jpg-properties.jpg
Any thoughts? Is this a registry problem? Any fixes? Is this a Vista issue?
    Thanks,
    Neal

I just sent this on to Apple QuickTime for Windows support feedback. I lost 'png' in Windows Vista Home Premium IE7 Browser unless I 'right click' IE7 Icon and 'run as administrator' after installing QuickTime Pro with iTunes on a new Dell desktop. From what I find in on-line forums QuickTime for Windows has been doing this in Internet Explorer for quite some time, I tried the same .zip file you tried with no completion in 'merge'... It appears to be a 'bug' from Apple, let''s hope they can offer a 'fix'...
03/10/07 new in the box Dell Dimension E521 desktop Windows Vista Home Premium OS installed. After I downloaded iTunes with QuickTime I noticed Internet Explorer 7 could not display 'png' images. I have QuickTime 7.2 with iTunes installed and stay current on Apple for Windows updates. After many hours of research on-line Windows support forums I discovered something in 'MIME' QuickTime application associates 'png' to QuickTime only and I get the annoying 'red x' appearing at any and all[right click properties] 'png' images. I contacted Dell warranty support about this matter without a 'fix' other than assuring me it was associated with a glitch in 'QuickTime for Windows'. In my Control Panel at QuickTime Icon there is no access to correct or alter this MIME 'png' association in Vista. I found if I 'right click' IE7 Icon and 'run as administrator' The browser opens very slow, but now 'png' images appear. They also do clearly appear in Mozilla Firefox alternative Browser on this PC. I'm quite certain Apple knows about this matter and has been receiving support questions concerning restoration of IE7 'png' images which seem to occur when QuickTime is installed. Since this is a QuickTime for Windows issue, can there be an adjustment in future QuickTime updates to address this sad state of affairs? I have tried Internet Options 'reset IE7' I even tried a 'system restore' on this brand new PC, experiencing this 'bug' issue related to QuickTime MIME 'png' images should best be addressed by Apple since Microsoft seems to offer no working solution short of re-installing the Vista OS, but installation of QuickTime for Windows would only cause it to happen again... Can you refer this matter to QuickTime for Windows Department for advice, maybe corrective measures in future updates?
Your assistance is greatly appreciated, I wouldn't be on-line without iTunes and QuickTime, let's see if we can get the 'red-x' out. Thank you!

  • Swf files from my web site do not show in Mozilla/5.0

I HAVE DEVELOPED A WEB SITE AND THE SWF FILES AS WELL AS THE .MOV FILES DO NOT SHOW WITH Mozilla/5.0
I would like users of my web site to automatically install plugins and not manually
    Thanks

For the mov file file you will need the QuickTime plugin or another plugin that can handle type="video/quicktime"
For the Flash file visitors need to have the [[Flash]] plugin installed.
I do not think that you can install missing plugin automatically, on Firefox you will always have to confirm that via the info bar at the top. A possibility to avoid installing QuickTime would to to convert the mov to a format that the Flash player can play. Most visitors will have the Flash plugin, but not QuickTime (there is no QT for Linux).

  • Imported swf file is not showing at all

    Hello!
I have custom swf that I have created in Flash Pro CS5, in AS 3.0. It calls upon two .as files which are in an "actionscript" subfolder and it reads a .xml which is in the same path as the custom.swf (no subfolder). The swf works perfectly fine when launched on its own (i.e. loads the .as + the .xml files correctly).
Now, I imported the swf in a brand new Catalyst project, which pretty much just has a square as a background. However, when imported, the .swf shows up as a simple icon with a question mark and has a deafault size of 30x30 instead of 500x500 (unlike other swfs which usually show up with the simple "f" icon and have their correct default sizes). Knowing that on import the Catalyst won't import the .as and .xml files I duly copied them to the "src" folder under C:/users/USERNAME/Application Data/Adobe... etc. I also set up the action sequence "OnApplication Start" to play the .swf
I preview the project and I pretty much get only the gray square with no trace of any swf whatsoever. I decided I might have the paths setup wrong somehow. So I published and copied my .as & .xml files into the same folder where my custom.swf is (i.e. \run-local\assets\images). When i play the custom.swf there on its own it works fine (as expected). However loading the Main.html from the \run-local folder again doesn't show anything but the square. Then, I also copied the .as + .xml in the \run-local root folder where the Main.swf is located (as I read that they need to be in the same path as the top level container). Again there was no effect.
Please help me solve this issue. I believe that the fact that the custom.swf is imported with wrong default dimensions (30x30 instead of 500x500) and the wierd icon might have something to do with it. I can upload the source files somewhere if necessary.
    Thanks!

    Hi, Chris!
Thanks for giving it a thought but that didn't seem to help :/
I'll try recompiling it tonight in a few different ways to see if anything changes. I'm testing entirelly on the local drive.Still haven't tried uploading anything from that project to the web.
Just a s note - the swf is entirely powered by the two .as files (because it just renders some words from an xml) so maybe there might be an issue if the file doesn't really contain much (although i tried putting some colored boxes inside and it didn't help).
I'll post links to the .fla and the .as files later today.

  • Flash 8 SWF not showing up online

    Hi all,
I have a flash SWF file that I embedded in an HTML page
through Dreamweaver. When I upload it to my site, it doesn't show
up. All I get is a dotted line box around where the file is suppose
to be. I isolated that earlier flash version work seemlessly but
this is Flash 8 with a skin.
When I test from Dreamweaver or publish a HTML page from
    Flash, it works perfectly.
Anyone run into thisproblem yet? Any clues would be greatly
    appreciated.
    Thanks
    Tim

    Sorry.
I created the SWF file in Flash 8 using the FLVplayback
component. Then in Dreamweaver imported the SWF file like I have
done many times before. I uploaded the SWF, Skin.SWF, and the html
file to the server and when I go to the page the flash file does
not show up. Just a dotted box when my mouse is over the area.

I have created a simple (one-column) stacked Column chart from an imported Excel 2007 spreadsheet. I am using 3 values and all three are there when I am editing the chart. When I do a Preview or Export it to a .swf file, the third value does not show up. It only shows the first two.

    Hi Rich,
Try to rebind the data with the component and preview and see.
Also check with other charts to see if you get the same behaviour.
Try placing a table component and display those cell and see what values are there when you preview.
There could also be posiblities that the third values must be very small as compared to the other two,so check that as well and may be select the secodry scale in the general tab for the 3rd series.
Let me know if this helps.
