IE8 Can't Parse Search.asmx results

Question

Hello,
I'm using the search.asmx service in 2010 to pull back people. The query itself is fine, but when I go to parse the data in IE8 I get an error "object doesn't support this property or method".
Firefox it works fine, any alternatives ? I've also tried $.parseXML and it doesn't throw any errors, but the data doesn't parse.
It appears to break on the 2nd line (var x = ...) Any thoughts?

Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you had an issue about the search.asmx service in SharePoint 2010.
You can try to enable the compatibility view for your SharePoint site as below, then check whehter it works.
Open IE->Tools->Compatibility View Settings
You can also add the site into Trusted sites.
Open the IE->Internet Options->Security->Sites->add the site into the Websites, then check whether it works
