  • How can I work around this issue when buying a new mac? And what will the difference be in speed?

    OK. In a nutshell.
I am getting render times (converting to H.264 for web, 8000kbps, 720x1280) of about 25 minutes with my current Macbook Pro - 4GB ram. Without doing anything else with the machine.
First question - how much can I reasonably expect this time to reduce to with:
    A. 21.5-inch: 2.5GHz
    2.5GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5
    1920 x 1080 resolution
    4GB (two 2GB) memory
    500GB hard drive1
AMD Radeon HD 6750M with 512MB
    - - - OR - - -
    B. 15-inch: 2.2 GHz
    2.2GHz quad-core
    Intel Core i7
    4GB 1333MHz
    500GB 5400-rpm1
    Intel HD Graphics 3000
    AMD Radeon HD 6750M with 512MB GDDR5
    Built-in battery (7 hours)2
Am I going to buy myself much time?
Secondly I would like to keep my existing MacBook Pro. Installed on this machine I have FCP 6. I regulary edit as I own a produciton company. I cannot upgrade to Lion as it does not support FCP 6.
I could upgrade to FCP 7 (which would cost a fortune and still would only provide one licence) or FCP 10. The later is attractive, but looking at Apple's Specs, I meet all the specs on my MacBook bar the graphics card. I have a GL Graphics Card (GeForce 8600M GT) but for some reason this is excluded from the list of acceptable graphic cards.
    So...the possibilities are:
    A. Get a iMac. Downgrade it to Snow Leopard. Back up from my Time Machine so FCP is now on both machines. Is this even possible? Since the license will only cover one machine?
    B. Get a iMac. Keep as Lion and buy FCP 10. Upgrade MacBook to Lion, but partition the drive with Snow Leopard so I can still have FCP 6. Download FCP 10 to my MacBook and hope it works even though my graphics card is not supported (I hear it might). How do I even get FCP 10 on my MacBook? Will it tell me I cannot install it because it recognises I don't have the right graphics card?
    C. Get a MacBook Pro. Do all the above, but if it doesn't work, sell my old MacBook Pro.
Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

  • My new mac mini with Maverick does not go to deep sleep even if i press power button or Apple-Sleep mode.

    Hi.
I have my new mac mini with Maverick that does not go to deep sleep even if i press power button or menu Apple-Sleep mode. He goes only to something like stand-by  (power lid is on; after i turn off and then turn on the power he does not wake up just starting). I tried "sudo pmset -a hibernatemode X", tried mode 0,1,3, and even 25. nothing helps. he goes to deep sleep (when all data on HDD) only first time after i change hibernatemode couple times and force it to sleep. Today i even tried to force it to sleep (menu Apple-Sleep mode) and NOT turn off the power for whole night, in the morning he is in this "stand-by" mode anyway.
Could anyone help me please? i need it sleep but don't want to keep my power on for whole night.

The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership.
If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different. If you bought from a reseller, its return policy applies.

  • Buying a new Mac preinstalled with SL (regarding multiple OS)

I'm looking at updating my systems with one of the new 27" iMacs but i was alittle concerned with the fact that Snow Leopard may not run my current applications as well as Leopard does as some have stated ZERO compatibility with SL.
But i was thinking, that Macs can run older versions of Windows; XP & Vista, and newer ones like 7.
Why is it unable to run older versions of OSX such a Leopard?
Is there anyway to make a bootable drive of Leopard for my new 27" iMac??

    Don't believe what you read
Is there anyway to make a bootable drive of Leopard for my new 27" iMac??
Yes. You can find such instructions pretty easily on the internet.
The problem is that Apple doesn't test new hardware with old software. There is no guarantee that an unsupported configuration will work properly. In theory, the old OS could let the logic board run too hot and fry it. You complain here, then take your machine in, and Apple will tell you that you have voided the warranty.
Snow Leopard works fine. It works more than fine.
If you have any software that doesn't work Snow Leopard, you need to upgrade it or get rid of it.

  • USB keyboard not working on new Mac Pro with Mavericks

I just bought the new Mac Pro and my apple USB keyboard won't work. I have a very old apple USB keyboard that is working but I want to use my newer one. The newer keyboard is a full one also, including the number pad.
    Thanks

no difference in ports just troubleshooting, ie if it didn't work on any of the 4 ports, likely a kb issue
if it worked on one of the other 3 ports, you have a broken usb port on the mac pro

  • My iPhone 4 broke so I had to buy a new one.  I backed up the old one on iTunes and when I went to restore the new one it won't allow me to because it is saying that I have the wrong password.  I tried changing the password and it still won't work. HELP!

My iPhone 4 screen shattered so I had to buy a new one.  I backed up my shattered iPhone to iTunes so that I could restore my new one.  When I went to restore it, it said that I had an incorrect password although I know it was right.  I tried changing the password and it still told me that I had an incorrect password.  So now my new phone has lost all its pictures, its music, its apps.... is there anything I can do to get my phone to restore?? PLEASE HELP!

If you can't get the password correct, you CANNOT restore from that backup.
However, if you've been using your phone as recommended by Apple, there should be minimal data loss.
Your iTunes library is on your computer, so you can synch all your apps, music, movies, ringtones, etc, on to your new phone.
Similarly, contacts should be synched to Address Book, Outlook, or a cloud service for you to easily synch back to your new phone.
Pictures taken from your old phone and not synched to your computer are lost, but you would have been synching those photos to your computer frequently as recommended.  Other photos that you synch TO your iPhone are still on your computer.
You won't be able to get text messages back.

  • Do I need to deactivate my Creative Suite 6 before I pickup my new mac pro? or will the migration assistant do all of that?

I am picking up my new mac pro tomorrow and wasn't sure if I needed to "deactivate" my Adobe products before I change over to my new Mac, or does the "migration assistant" do all the work?   thanks for any help.

Nope. Migration does not work with any Adobe software. Don't even try it, it will cause a lot of huge problems.
Deactivate your software on the old computer. Install it from the original installer on the new one, don't forget to install all upgrades which are available in the meantime.

  • HT5148 Will the upgrade to Final Cut Pro X, promised on release of Mac Pro, be free to upgrade?

If I buy Final Cut Pro X now, will the new version, promised when the Mac Pro is released, be free to upgrade?
Having bought Logic Pro 9 last year and now having to upgrade to Logic Pro X at full cost, I don't want to make the mistake of paying for Final Cut Pro X now and then having to pay full for it again when new version is released.

  • Want to migrate my iMac g5 w/sys 10.3.9 to new mac book pro, how do i upgrade to the minimum system required?

I want to migrate my iMac g5 from 2004 with system 10.3.9 to a new macbook pro. How do i upgrade to the minimum system (10.4.11 or 10.5.6 or later) required? Thank you.

You need to realize that if you buy a new Mac now with
Lion installed, all your PPC apps will not work.
You may just want to build your new system form scratch
and manually move the data you need.  Migrating will bring almost
everything over and, since 2004, there may be a lot you just don't
    want or need.
Also, installing those programs that you own that are
universal installers (contain Intel code) will
insure everything is put in the right place.
Having a fresh clean system to start out with is not
a bad idea.  It's more work but in the long run will
    help to alleviate problems.

  • New iPad Owner with Question About OS Upgrade

I just purchased a new iPad and I am under the impression that I'll be able to upgrade to OS4 when it's released for the iPad this fall. If I take the 3.2.1 upgrade that just came out, will that eliminate my ability to upgrade to OS4 for free when it's released?

What has been added/fixed from the original version 3.2?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1060
Does anyone know if it's worth upgrading?
It was for me on my 3G iPad, where the update did indeed improve the connectivity of the WiFi. Your results may vary. If your iPad isn't having any issues, there is probably no pressing need to upgrade.
I'm hearing some people are having trouble upgrading.
No matter what device, it's always the case that some people have problems with an upgrade. For the iPad, though, the vast majority have had no problems. I upgraded both of my iPads with no issues whatsoever.
    Regards.

    Hi sar23,
You may have inadvertently created or edited the document in the new Numbers 3.0 (which is free; you don't have to buy it) and are now trying to open it with the old Numbers 2.3.
Both versions can be on your Mac at the same time, and can run at the same time.  The icons are similar so it's easy to confuse them (old on top here, new on bottom).
The new Numbers 3.0 is in your Applications folder. The old Numbers 2.3 should be in a subfolder in the Applications folder named iWork '09 or similar.
If you accidently edited an old document in the new version and want to take to take it back to the old version, you can export it:

i synced my iphone 5 with my computer and save all the photos to my phone through itunes. i restored my mac and lost all my photos on the mac but i still have them on my phone. how do i get them on my new mac now?

how do i get them on my new mac now?
Be careful, when you connect the iPhone to your mac, unless you have saved the photos. Synced photos may easily  be accidentally deleted by syncing again. And do not enable iCloud Photo  Library (Beta), that will erase synced photos as well.  Synced Photos are not included in the device backups.
Set your iTunes Preferences to "Devices > Prevent iPos, iPhones, iPads from syncing automatically".  Otherwise iTunes may launch and sync your iPhone with an empty iPhoto library the moment you connect it.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to sync the synced photos back. Apple recommends to mail them back, but that would be a lot of clicking (iTunes: Syncing photos - Apple Support). You could also share them to a Shared Album, but a third party app like TD recommended, will be better.
