I had the same problem. Kept getting message of waiting for activation or check network connections. I also tried every solution out there and nothing worked. This did though: I download the newest version of itunes (through Internet Explorer - Google Chrome wouldn't work). It pulled in my entire library thank goodness and then I plugged my iphone 4s into the computer. I let itunes find it, did a complete backup in icloud, then did a restore. Entire process took a couple of hours, but I now have imessage and facetime back. I was about ready to give up on Apple and go get a different phone ~

Hi, I' ll be San Antonio from 8-10th of Oct and want to buy an iphone 5. According to forums there is no unlucked yet. Thus, can i get simlocked but not contracted phone from any store? and is that possible to use that phone in Turkey without any prob.
If you purchase the phone at the full contract price and have no term left on your carrier contract, the carrier will unlock it for you. That's what I am doing with AT&T. I'll pay the full purchase price for the phone and since I don't have a contract with them, they will unlock it for you. It can be difficult to get it done since most of their customer service is very ill informed but I have had many discussions with them on their chat that I have records of them stating they will unlock any phone if you do not have an existing contract. It's the law.

Only the carrier to whom the device is locked can authorize it's unlocking. Contact the carrier to see if they offer unlocking and if you qualify.

Yes - unlocked means unlocked, but if there is a problem that requires an exchange under warranty, the warranty would be honored in the US only. You would need to return to the US for an exchange under warranty.

and then activate online on tmobile.com to get the prepaid plan for $30.00?No, the SIM card included with the T-Mobile phone on the Apple site does not allow you to activate for the $30 prepaid, as there is no "activation code" provided with the phone and you need a code for prepaid activation on the T-Mobile site. As you know T-Mobile store will not help you with this plan.
I just did this. (1) I went on Apple store site and purchased an iPhone 5c selecting the T-Mobile "unlocked and contract-free SIM-Free" option.
(2) You also need to go on T-Mobile and buy the (so called) "activation kit" http://prepaid-phones.t-mobile.com/sim-card ; select the "Nano Sim Card" "Phone" then "Add to cart". This is currently free, so I got 2, in case. It took about 3 business days to receive the package via UPS.
The package has instructions, but does not mention the $30 option (it is not widely advertised in T-Mobile as you know). However, no problem, it will become available during activation.
(3) Now replace the SIM card that you received from Apple with the SIM card you received from T-Mobile.
(4) Before you start the activation process, write down clearly (and double check) the "activation code" found in the T-mobile activation kit, the "SIM card serial number" found in the kit as well and the "Phone serial number (IMEI)" found on the iPhone box you received from Apple.
(5) Go to T-Mobile "Activate your new phone" https://www.t-mobile.com/shop/plans/ActivateCodes.aspx and enter those 3 numbers, very carefully. (I have heard any mistake may stop the process and you need a new SIM card to restart).
In the next screen, you will pick the plan (all prepaid plans are showing, including the $30 100 min / unlimited text / web, but beware as there is another $30 for 1500 min, no web) and then a phone number (or transfer your phone number) - when you click "next" you actually receive a text message on the phone right away! In the next screen you enter your payment information (debit, credit or purchased prepaid card), then you are done.
(6) I actually went back to my-t-mobile.com to create a login - pw so I can change my payment method later and see the data and minutes used.
No need to adjust any APN settings. Got LTE in my area and internet speed clocks at an amazing 32.77 Mbps Download. ENJOY! -

A friend of mine bought a Windows 8 phone and he discovered that the phones, apparantly all of them (across all brands) are region locked, app store wise, to China. So he can't download apps like Skype for example. I want a new phone but I'm worried that if I buy an iPhone here in China I won't be able to access my countries store. I have an old iPhone but it was from the UK so I know I can access the UK store in China. But the issue is, is that will the Chinese sold iPhone only access their own store and no others like the Chinese sold Windows 8 phones?

One of the options available to you will be to pick it up at a specific Apple Store. Then you could see the date it would be available for you to receive it.

My new birthday present of an i-phone 4s, can not be synced with the navigation of my 2011 Honda CRV. Can anyone give us hints on what to do, as the Honda dealership can not enable the phone to work with hands free. Help, this is very frustrating as the old cheap phone,worked perfect. Apple did not make this a user friendly product for cars.
Start by reading the User's Guide which will provide details for how to pair the device with other bluetooth devices. This may also require reading the Owner's Manual for the vehicle to find out how to put it into pairing mode.

Read what Peter said, he is from the UK. Also, if you send her money to buy one in the US, she would have one that would not support everything in the UK. Also the warranty is only good in the US, so she would have to bring it back to the US if she experienced a problem with the device. The best choice is to purchase the phone in the UK, but for it to work in the US with a US SIM, it would need to be unlocked.

Why is T-Mobile contract-free iPhone 6 not unlocked , showing * SIM not Valid* erorr outside of US?
Just before Christmas I purchased my iPhone 6 64 at full-price from the Stonebriar Apple Store, TX. At the time of purchase, I indicated several times that I want to use my phone outside of US and Apple Store representative assured me that my only option was T-Mobile contract-free iPhone which came totally unlocked and I would be able to use it internationally with no problem. I used my phone about 3 weeks in US with my prepaid AT&T SIM card without any problems and I was the happiest with my purchase but since I came back to my country my biggest nightmare has started : Just arrived at airport trying to use my local SIM, I faced the *SIM not valid* message due to a *Activation Policy*. My awful experience just started with both my family and I had the most frustrating time trying to find each other at airport. The next day when I called Apple care and explained the situation the adviser told me that although I bought the phone contract-free, my phone is now locked to AT&T and I had to contact them. I contacted AT&T several times spending countless hours to explain the situation and I spoke to near 9 different people including a manager ; at first they did not even believe me and they told me that it is impossible for AT&T to just block ppl's phones just because they activated their phone with their SIM -and it is totally making sense- but I insisted that Apple Care told me that my phone is locked by them and this is evident from their system. Anyway, one of them suggested me to request unlock my device via ATT website and I waited 4 days for their response till I received the denial because according to their record I used my prepaid service less than 6 months and I am not eligible for unlock request!!! Angry me called them again and after being on the line more that one hour, the adviser told me that my phone is not locked by them and it is actually Mercury who did this and they are the one that I had to call - at that moment I remembered that the night before I just tried my T-mobile SIM in my phone for few seconds to see what would happen and that's it - no service no activation ! When I called Apple this time and after speaking with at least 3 different pple, they told me that their system is actually unable to show which carrier has locked the device and they could only see which SIM card is the last one used in the phone and the problem is merely because of a latent Activation Policy that some iPhones can be used only in US and nowhere else and in US you may use it with different carriers but it does not mean that the phone is unlocked, and my only option is to contact the Apple Store I made my purchase to see whether they can(!! it is up to them to do it, they can easily say they can not) exchange the phone or not ! I told them that it is impossible for me to go there because I will not come back to US in next 9 months and I do not have access to any apple stores in my country, but this is the only thing that they could do , to say that they were sorry for the inconvenience.
The sad part of story is that after waiting 2 weeks without phone and spending more than 100$ to make international phone calls, this is the only answer they had for me. It is very hard for me to believe that Apple does not have any control over their own Activation Policy and for some one with my situation they are completely clueless. Apart from being frustrated, I am very disappointed with Apple and their costumer care because the advisers seemed very confusing or maybe they themselves were confused even more ! It is very abusive and it is like that I am robbed almost 1000$. Please help if you have the same experience or if you suggest that it is a good idea to file a complaint !I managed to chat with an Apple Online Store representative, and he assured me that if purchased online it's completely unlocked from day 1...
So i guess that counts as official confirmation.
I'm still worried though, something is not right with all this contradicting information, or it's probably just marketing!
I know they are in the business of making profit and I myself work in an Apple related business, but i have to stress that there are moral and freedom-of-market issues with locked phones, they really are illegal in many countries (correct if you ask me).
Locked phones paid full price is troll, really makes no sense at all!
