hey i just dropped my ipod and was wondering how much apple would charge to repair my screen. Some people have said that they do it for free even without a warranty and some say they charge lie 200 to 300 bucks
Sometimes if you make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store the Genius will exchange it at no cost. It is not coverd by the warranty byt sometimes the Genius will. Otherwise for a 32 BG yu will have to pay $149 for the exchange..

☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key.
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. Normally the command will produce no output, and the window will be empty. If the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window) has anything in it, stop here and post it — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the TextEdit window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.
Step 2
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
Reset the System Management Controller.
Run Software Update. If there's a firmware update, install it.
If you're booting from an aftermarket SSD, see whether there's a firmware update for it.
If you have a portable computer, check the cycle count of the battery. It may be due for replacement.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane. See whether there's any change.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
Boot into Recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, and run Repair Disk.
If you have a MacBook Pro with dual graphics, disable automatic graphics switching in the Energy Saverpreference pane for better performance at the cost of shorter battery life.
Step 3
When you notice the problem, launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the View menu or the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for User, System, and Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the Memory tab. What value is shown in the bottom part of the window for Swap used?
Next, select the Disk tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in andWrites out.)
Step 4
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combinationcommand-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long. -
I have a iPhone 4S with a cracked screen and I believe it needs a SIM card. My question is what would be the cheapest way to repair it completely?
I would replace it out of warantee for the 200. but if you really need to save a few bucks

new sim card (if charged for one) - $20
but getting another one for 200 (through insurance) will give you a year warantee

Hey Mazals, No, your family is right, you can recycle your iPod by turning it over to Apple, and as Skydiver119 has stated it's not much, 10% off the purchase price of a new Apple device, so a $300 iPod = $30 off the price, it's about what it would cost to get ride of an electronic device if you took it to a recycling center, you just can't throw these things away in the trash. Some electronics store will give you more toward the purchase of a new product, provided you buy the replacement from there store. (Generally, the device has to be in good working order, cracked screen may not qualify). I don't which ones, you'll have to do some research. Your other option is fix you iPod and continue to use it, BUT, there's always a but... you need to way in if it's worth fixing. Used iPod 4 are selling for about the cost to replace the screen-- provided you do the labor to replace the screen. Not worth doing if you plan to fix it and sell it. What ever you do, make sure you make a full backup to your computer before you recycle, repair, or sell. If you decide to sell don't forget to untether it from your computer, unlock it wipe it clean, so the next owner, can use it. Since your sights are set for a new iPod, I would recycle with Apple. I just got an iphone5. My computer itunes recognizes the iphone when connected, but will not sync. I have been to the Apple genius bar and they have uninstalled and reinstalled itunes several times and did everything they could think of, but still it would not sync. I have an ipad2 that syncs with no problem. So they told me to go get some computer help elsewhere...blamed it on Windows? Thanks!
You can poke around in the settings. There's a lot of stuff defaulted to on that you may not need. Such as notifications. Background app update, background app update. Try turning those off and see if that helps.

Been having problems with my addmin password / user name. For some reason it stopped recognising me. Reinserted the Os x disc's that came with the iMac so I could change the password & username. This worked for a day but has now locked me out again. Tried to check a few things and now have a blank display with a grey world flashing up in the middle of the screen. Now and then it changes to a grey folder. Cannot stop this happening. Computer is unusable. Mick

I have a late mode IMac 27" running Snow Leopard. I downloaded Mountain Lion from the Apple Store and paid for it. When I trie to install it took me through the first few pages of installation such as agrreeing to terms and the Lion Page showed up asking where I wanted to intall Mountain Lion. The install button was greyed out. I also had a message this disc is used for Time Machine. I had no other disc to choose from. Time Mahine was in the OFF position. I tried hooking up an external drive and tried using it as th Time Machine Backup. That did not work and it also said this disc is used by Time Machine. I have read of several other cases like this but have found no solution other than doinh a complee wipe of the hard drive and doing a reinstall which I really want to avoid if I can.
Look at the root of your hard drive for a folder called Backups.backupdb.
Or, a sparse bundle disk image for one of mobile computers that might have tried to back up to your Mac.
If you have those, remove them and try again.
