If you hold down the up and down buttons....

hi. Am i being really stupid but if you hold the up or down buttons on a macbook pro keyboard it doesnt scroll up and down the page? if you keep pressing the buttons it does or press the fn button together with the up or down arrows it works as it does with the touch pad mouse.
Just thought that like an a pc laptop the up and down buttons would scroll up and down a page by holding them down which my macbook pro doesn"t.
Am i right or do i have a faulty keyboard?

i have figured out the answer. In system preferences the keboard options were set as long/slow. now i have adjusted them to very fast and my kepboard is responsive again. cant believe i was so dumb!

open itunes on computer
plug cable into computer not iOS device
turn phone off
hold home button and plug cable into phone. do not release home button until an itunes graphic appears on device.
look to computer should have message about recovery mode click ok and restore

There is a thread or two about the home button and how to fix it at least temporally. It sounds like some people have found it to be a rather permanent fix. Do search on something like "Home button won't work". It has something to do with putting the charging cable into the phone and applying a little extra pressure upward on the key. Don't take my word for it though look for the thread/s. You said originally that your "Power" button was broken and the thread I have seen is about the Home Button.

Here's how to perform the restore:

If you can actually get to restore, maybe (I estimate a 0.01% chance) you'll be able to do a backup before the restore. Actually, from the symptoms you describe, I suspect a restore won't work either and you'll need to do a recovery.
Just in case, if you need to recover (restore fails), here's how. Note you may have to try to get into recovery mode more than once.

It's just the battery sign - nothing else. I've tried to reboot by holding down both power and home key for 10+ seconds, waiting for the apple logo - but nothing happens. It's plugged into the imac at the moment. I tried to recharge it overnight using the normal charger - but no luck. How long did you let it charge? It may take 30 minutes before the iPad responds when the battery is completely drained. Let it charge for at least 30 minute using the wall charger. Then rest the iPad. Press and hold both the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button continuously until the Apple logo appears. Then release the button and let the device restart. You will not lose data doing this. It's like a computer reboot.
If the iPad restarts let it continue to charge until the battery is 100%.
If the iPad still does not start make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support.

So usually when my iphone would stop working I would just press down on the lock and home button, and then the Apple logo would appear.
However, my lock button stopped working a while ago..
If I go to the Apple store can I get them to fix my lock button, without deleting any of my phone content?

Apple will not fix the lock button, they will replace the phone for $149. You should back up your phone so you can restore its content to the replacement. If it doesn't show up in iTunes, hope you have a previous backup on your computer or iCloud.
